Jak ČTK informuje: analýza agenturního zpravodajství na příkladu leteckých nehod v ČR v roce 2011 / How CTK reports: analysis of news agency production on example of air accidents in the Czech republic in 2011

Zuska, Adam January 2015 (has links)
Air accidents related to both airplanes and airliners are often at the centre of heightened media attention. Whereas commercial media often choose to include in their news service only those accidents that result in number of fatalities or in a significant property damage, public service broadcasters should not take into account these criteria on order to provide balanced and versatile news service promoting an independent formation of opinions. In the case of news agencies, whose general mission is to collect and provide information, this assumption is doubly true. This thesis aims to analyse textual news products of the Czech News Agency using the example of the Agency's news coverage of air accident which happened in 2011 in the Czech Republic. This analysis will be used to determine the information quality on The first part of this thesis offers a theoretical basis for analysis - it describes the circumstances of the selection of news and related critical thinking approaches. The second part involves the actual qualitative content analysis of the news, mainly through comparison of media production with institutionally processed data depicting the real state of aviation accidents in the analysed period.

Proměny zpravodajských hodnot fotografiíí v ročenkách Týdne a Lidových novin / Shifts of news values of photographs in the year-books of Týden and Pátek lidových novin magazines

Werner, Lukáš January 2013 (has links)
The topic of the thesis is the comparison of photographs in year-books of magazine Týden and year-books of Lidové noviny newspaper from the point of view of the News values, as set by Johan Galtung and Mari Ruge and their successors, and also with respect to other qualities and values which are crucial in the process of selection of news photographs. The year-books of chosen media are the summaries of their production of given year, they are the selection of events which are considered the most important of that year. From the visual point of view, the year-books have much more space devoted to photography than their standard issues. The number of photographs and their size are therefore much higher. The thesis compares two pairs of year-books with a nine-year interval between them. This makes us compare the shifts and changes of their qualities in time, using a quantitative analysis research. The important part of the thesis is devoted to the routines of editorial staff, who are responsible for the selection of photographs. To explain this part, we used interviews with photo-editors or image editors. In these interviews we put emphasis on the very fundaments of editors work, the factors and circumstances which limit and affect his work and we also identified the values or qualities of photographs which are...

Mediální obraz vybraných českých hokejistů od začátku do konce jejich kariéry v NHL v českých denících / The media image of chosen czech hockey players from the beginning to the end of their careers in NHL in czech daily newspapers

Rampa, Robert January 2019 (has links)
This thesis deals with analysis of the media image of five Czech hockey players Patrik Elias, Martin Havlat, Milan Hejduk, Jiri Hudler and Tomas Kaberle during their active career (1996 - 2017) in National Hockey League (NHL). The qualitative method analyzes texts from six Czech newspapers (Blesk, Hospodarske noviny, Lidove noviny, Mlada fronta DNES, Pravo and Sport). Thesis analyzes every twentieth article about Patrik Elias whose headline contained his surname. For the remaining hockey players the thesis analyzes every tenth article due to fewer texts. The thesis use for analysis the theory of news values, specifically the categorization of Alastair Hetherington and works with concepts of heroism, fallen heroes and celebritization. The results of the analysis describe the development of the media image of Czech hockey players, how the Czech dailies worked with events that contained given news values, how and what media image they formed. It also compares individual media images and the approach of the newspapers themselves. In conclusion, it also offers a new categorization of news values solely for the sport media area.

Le changement climatique dans la presse : une analyse comparative des représentations du phénomène en France et au Brésil / Climate change in daily newspapers : a comparative analysis of global warming public representation in France and Brazil

Lins-Peliz, Ana Carolina 24 November 2016 (has links)
This research examines climate change public representation in Brazilian and French newspapers. This representation includes the construction of climate change such as news. Through the analyses of newspaper articles reported in these two countries (Le Monde, Le Figaro, O Estado de São Paulo et O Globo), we found that climate change, per se, did not represents a news story’s value. Reports on climate change in newspapers are often the byproduct of the press’ discursive strategies, where intertextuality becomes a journalistic device. In this sense, the issue of climate change is intertwined with other subject matters and, by default, it establishes a relationship of dependence with other news stories. We found that political events related to climate change, essentially COPs, or the publication of new scientific findings, become crucial to the production of news, not only for divulging new facts but for promoting the circulation of information while constructing a discursive memory about the subject matter. The discourse built around climate change in the newspapers analyzed lays between antagonistic ideas of utopia and dystopia. The utopian ideals are portrayed by the notion of consensus - which in this case has not been reached, through scientific merit and by the depiction of nature. Contrary to this, dystopia is invariably represented as failure and disappointment, by the lack of political accord and allegorized as a bleak future to come.

EU i nyheterna : En diskursanalys om EU och EU:s anseende i det svenska medieutbudet / EU in the news : a discourse analysis about the EU and EU's reputations in the Swedish media

Norberg, Mari January 2011 (has links)
The purpose of this essay is to analyze the EU discourse in the Swedish media. The questions that the analysis seeks to answer are; what image of EU is portrayed in the Swedish media? To which degree does the EU discourse fulfill media’s “news values”? And what are the potential effects of the discourse on EU’s reputation? After several demarcations, I chose 8 articles form Sweden’s four largest newspapers to base the analysis on.     The theoretical and methodical structure behind this analysis is the theories and practices of Fairclough’s critical discourse analysis. Added to the theoretical structure are also theories about reputation and theories about news values. The method used in the analysis is a modified version of Fairclough’s three-dimensional model of critical discourse analysis. The modifications are modified to suit the questions at issues, at the text dimension of Fairclough’s model the modification are inspired by Fowler’s critical linguistics. The results from the analysis shows EU is portrayed in several ways, partly as “bully” using per-pressure to get its way and partly as a hero that comes and cleans up the European financial mess. In many of the articles EU only plays a supporting role, and rather then being portrayed as part of our political system EU is portrayed as a guiding norm that we should measure up to.   The conclusion is that there is a lack of interest for EU in the Swedish media. News about EU struggle to fulfill two important new values; simplification and human interest. EU is a complex faceless bureaucratic institution with a lack of transparency. Also because of its complex nature it’s very difficult to understand the ongoing work inside EU. The potential effects to EU´s reputation due to medias lack of interest, is that EU becomes vague and unclear. The Swedish media legitimizes the Swedish peoples lack of interest in EU and that leads to a continuing lack of knowledge.

"Vad innehåller lokaljournalistiken?" : En veckas lokaljournalistik på webben i Västerbotten / What’s does the local news contain? - an analysis of a week’s local journalism on the web in Västerbotten, Sweden”

Hanna, Kalla January 2018 (has links)
This study ”What’s does the local news contain? - an analysis of a week’s local journalism on the web in Västerbotten, Sweden” examines the different discourses in the local journalism of newspapers and public service media. The aim is to find what makes the local news with the use of a quantitative content analysis combined with a Critical Discourse Analysis (CDA).The study uses a theoretical framework that includes theories surrounding agenda setting, the power of the media, local journalism, news values and web based journalism. For the quantitative content analysis the online text tool Textometrica was used. The analysis found that the local news mainly consisted of news regarding sports and negative news such as crime, accidents and court cases. It also found that the local news mainly focused on a small part of the municipality of Västerbotten in its news coverage, where the biggest city in the region was of the most interest. When other parts were covered it was mostly for sport events or negative news. The qualitative analysis also found that there was a high frequency of updates on the websites and non-local news that made it into the local news due to being sensational. A difference between the newspapers and the public service media was also found where the papers focused more on local debates and public service media wasn’t as tied to earlier theories regarding news values. The study could also state that the content of the local media during the week differed from what is said to be good journalism and also what is said to be the journalistic responsibility that citizens rely on to make democratic decisions.

Representation of investigative journalism on film: : Comparative textual analysis of two Hollywood movies’ approach to journalistic core values

Jauhola, Anna Elina January 2017 (has links)
This dissertation discusses the representation of investigative journalism in two Hollywood films produced between 2009 and 2015. The films in question are Spotlight (2015) and State of Play (2009). Investigative reporting and its practices are being discussed by using academic literature and previous research as the foundation of the study, followed by a discussion about the chosen research method: textual analysis. The textual analysis is conducted by concentrating specifically on three core journalistic practices of objectivity, use of sources and news values, and how these practices are represented in the films. The three core practices are teased out by using specific sequences from the movies in a form of images. The results of the analysis are then contrasted towards the existing literature discussed in the literature review. By using the means of textual analysis, the study found that both films are relying on stereotypes about journalism yet certain ‘reality’ about journalism can be found in these films. The journalists are in many cases shown as outcasts yet heroic figures who conduct thorough investigation and inform the public. In both films, the profession of investigative journalism is legitimized, and the journalists are depicted as the watchdogs of the society. Both movies lay much importance on the individual reporters and the investigation processes: processes that are rare in real newsrooms. This further enhances the mythic and overly positive, romanticized representation on journalism in films. As the study was based on textual analysis only, its nature was qualitative and interpretative. Future studies could include, yet not be limited to, adding another method and through this, to further deepen the research about journalism in films. Areas of research could include films produced in the 21st century and more specifically, films about journalism in the digital era.

”Han har valt ut sina offer. De som varit mörkhyade har attackerats.” : Skolattacken i Trollhättan – En jämförelse mellan Aftonbladet och TTELA / “He chose his victims. Those who have darker skin have been attacked.” : The school attack in Trollhättan – a comparison between Aftonbladet and TTELA

Lindberg, Malin, Robertsson, Alice January 2021 (has links)
On the 22nd October 2015 Anton Lundin Pettersson attacked students with a sword at Kronan elementary school, in the Swedish city of Trollhättan. The school is locally known to have many students with different immigrant backgrounds. When the police arrived at the school they shot the perpetrator and after an investigation the police claimed that the perpetrator had racist motives with the attack. Four persons died in the attack, including the perpetrator. The aim of this study was to compare how a local newspaper and a national newspaper covered and framed the school attack in Trollhättan. Our research questions were: How was the attack framed in the articles? How were the victims and the perpetrator framed in the articles? And are there any differences and/or similarities in the newspaper's coverage of the event? In this study we made a qualitative text analysis to examine the comparison between newspapers TTELA (local) and Aftonbladet (national). The timeframe we analysed for the news coverage was from the day of the attack (October 22nd) and one month forward (November 23rd). Totally 29 articles were examined where 17 was from Aftonbladet and 12 was from TTELA. The results showed that both newspapers framed the attack as something that no one saw coming and they both used the words “attack” or “deed” to describe the incident. The newspapers framed some victims as heroes and others as helpless people. Both newspapers framed the perpetrator as a racist, but only the national newspaper (Aftonbladet) framed him as a “lone wolf”. The results showed that the newspapers reported from different forms of othering.
