Therefore, we sought to examine how the imposition of new ways of naming these individuals produce a movement towards its identity, which is misplaced in the sense of being subsumed by the black identity. Therefore, we analysed the procedures for rewriting, in order to examine how these names are rewritten in oficial state documents and interviews we have collected about black identity in magazines aimed at black audiences, such as Raça Brasil. Furthermore, we understand the movement of meaning of these identities in oficial documents as A Cartilha do Politicamente Correto, o Estatuto da Igualdade Racial and some dictionaries circulating more frequently in society, as well as electronic enciclopedias that have a much greater access than the common dictionaries for they are available on the network. As a way to check the directions that some meanings move in such speeches, we analyse the discoursive memory that these lexicons have, when circulating in certain areas regulated by specific ways of saying, therefore, we understand their production since the arrival of Europeans to Brazil and his contact with the native, naming him according a memory typically Eurocentric, and the appointment of Africans, which produces effects of meaning that will be recollected in later events. As a central event that causes our studies, we have the discussions about the deployment of ethnic and racial quotas for admission to public universities in Brazil. Such event gives rise to new meanings about the black as well as directions that will be recollected, such as prejudice, and others will be deleted, as the mixing of cultures. Thus, we can see that there is a policy of silence on certain names, preventing the subjects designated by other places to occupy another places to say, banning this subjects-positions in society that is regarded as democratic one.

EMERGÊNCIA, MOVIMENTO E DESLOCAMENTO DA DISCIPLINARIZAÇÃO DA ANÁLISE DE DISCURSO NO RS / EMERGENCY, MOVEMENT AND DISPLACEMENT IN DISCIPLINARIZATION OF DISCOURSE ANALYSIS IN RS

Martins, Taís da Silva 30 May 2008 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / In this work, we propose a reflection regarding disciplinarization process of Discourse Analysis (DA) in Rio Grande do Sul (RS). In order to do this, we are based on the methodological and theoretical principles of History of the Linguistic Ideas (HIL) which make possible to us circumscribe a incursion through documentary archives that materialize the trajectory of DA since the emergency of this discipline in the curriculums of PUCRS and UFRGS Post-graduate Programs in Languages. Our objective is to understand the movements, displacements and unchangings that constitute the historicity of DA in what it concerns to the designations received in curricular grades of these Programs by this field of knowledge. The archive of our research comprises data and facts related to a History of Linguistics in Language Courses in Brazil since is it is inside this discipline that, in Brazil, DA is institutionalized, and also for a set of institutional documents, such as: annual, daily reports of classes, programs, course schedules and bibliographies of the discipline. The analysis of these texts lead us to make a network of academic-intellectuals relations that embodied DA in RS. From the journey through out the archives we had pointed what concepts, what theoreticians, what subjects mobilize and are mobilized in a discipline that is politically designed as DA as well as it is renamed in other ways and not less politically.

Nomination et catégorisation des realia exotiques dans les récits de voyage (Afrique noire, de la fin du 18e siècle à 1960) : une approche sémantico-discursive / Naming and categorizing exotic realia in traval narratives (Black Africa from late 18th century to 1960) : a semantic-discursive approach

Guerin, Olivia 05 July 2011 (has links)
The present study explores how reference is constructed in the discursive genre specifiedas travel narrative. A hallmark of the genre is a common posture towards the production of thetext where enunciator-travellers are placed in an asymmetric context between language and cultureand have to give an account of realia (natural species, artefacts, social practices) which are not systematically lexicalized in their own languages or for which they do not have naming competence. They thus tend to present referencing as problematic. In order to describe how incontext enunciators manage to reference “against all odds”, the present dissertation analysesnaming and categorization procedures of exotic realia in a corpus of travel accounts by Frenchtravellers to Black Africa in the colonial period. A discursive semantics is set up based on thepatterning of the three orders, language, textuality and discourse. The present work first builds upa typology of naming patterns implemented in the corpus and is able to show that discursivepractices concerned with naming rest on the language as a system. This first referencing procedureis followed by sequential operations to delimit categories; textual constraints on this secondprocedure are shown up. There follows the analysis of the discursive effects that result from theuse of such linguistic resources and this is done through articulation with the generic dimensionand the enunciative and ideological stances. Finally the analytic tools that have been devised areapplied to the characterization of specific discursive processes in two contrasting texts from thecorpus.

Nominace soudců Nejvyššího soudu USA jako prvek systému brzd a rovnovah / Nomination of the US Supreme Court Justices as a part of the system of checks and balances

Bielawski, Adam January 2021 (has links)
The topic of this thesis is nomination of justices of the Supreme Court, the highest federal court in the United States. The Constitution gives the power to appoint new federal justices to the president, with "advice and consent" of the Senate. This clause is based on one of the primary constitutional principles used in the United States - the system of checks and balances. The first part describes the general aspects of all nominations, from court vacancies to the final vote on Senate floor. The primary roles of the president and the Senate are defined. Focus is also set on the evolution of the nomination process throughout the history, as well as the criteria for selecting new justices, who shape the constitutional development of one of the oldest functioning democracies. The structure of the first part is then applied for a description of the nomination of Brett M. Kavanaugh, who was appointed to the Supreme Court by President Donald Trump in 2018. The course of this nomination was strongly affected by sexual assault accusations against the nominee and fierce partisan battles that resulted in the closest confirmation vote in history. The final part applies quantitative research methods to discover the influence of partisan difference between the president and the Senate majority on the...

Screening for Emotional and Behavioral Problems in High Schools

Soelberg, Nichole Marie 09 July 2013 (has links) (PDF)
Screening for emotional and behavioral problems in youth is a well-validated process for elementary-aged children as notable and respected research has provided evidence that children at risk for behavioral and emotional problems can be identified and provided with targeted interventions, which prevent additional problems (Lane, Wehby, & Barton-Arwood, 2005). However, there is a lack of research offering evidence for a behavioral and emotional screening process for high school students. Identifying at-risk youth is a vital component in providing early-intervention services that can remediate problems before they become severe and require resource intensive interventions. This research contributes to the development of a screening measure based on a validated multi-gated screening process for use in high schools. The new measure will be adapted from the Stage 1 of the Systematic Screening for Behavior Disorders (SSBD; Walker & Severson, 1992) used in elementary schools to identify students who are at risk for developing emotional and behavioral disorders. Descriptors of students at-risk for emotional and behavior disorders from Schilling (2009) and a review of items used from common behavior rating scales were used to create a teacher nomination form that will serve as a first gate in the multi-gated screening process. The appropriateness of the descriptors for the teacher nomination form was evaluated by teachers in high schools.

The Influence of Universal Screening Measures on the Diversity of Students Found Eligible for Gifted Education Program Services

Fohl Jr., George Christopher 07 May 2021 (has links)
Underrepresentation among those identified for gifted programs has been a concern in the field of gifted education for over a century, affecting students of color, students with disabilities, English language learners, and economically disadvantaged students. Universal screening has emerged as a possible strategy to increase referrals of students from underrepresented populations and to produce gifted population demographics more reflective of total student enrollment. The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of universal screening measures on the diversity of students found eligible for gifted education services. The study examined the following research questions: 1. What is the relationship between a referral source and the gifted identification of elementary school students? 2. To what extent do universal screening measures influence the diversity of students eligible for gifted education services? This study used existing referral and eligibility data of elementary school students in a medium-sized school district who were administered a universal screening measure during the 2019-2020 school year. Pearson chi-square tests with Yates' continuity correction were used to determine the existence of possible associations between referral source and gifted identification status, and Cramér's V was used as a measure of effect size. Referral rates, accuracy, and effectiveness of referral sources were also computed. Across all demographic groups, universal screeners referred more students than any other referral source, and the highest number of students identified gifted after the full gifted evaluation came from universal screener referrals. Teacher referrals and universal screener referrals produced the most diverse identified gifted results after evaluation. Universal screeners displayed the highest referral rates and were the most accurate and effective referral source across all demographic groups. This study provides the field of gifted education further research on universal screening, and the findings of this study provide educational leaders data to inform practice. Implications for school and district leaders involve multiple stakeholders and address different areas to promote diversity among the gifted student population. The implications center on parent and community engagement, professional learning, best practices in gifted education, and evaluation of gifted identification processes. / Doctor of Education / Historically, students of color, students with disabilities, English language learners, and economically disadvantaged students have been underrepresented in gifted programs. Universal screening has emerged as a potential practice to refer more students from underrepresented populations and consequentially identify a more diverse gifted population, but few studies exist to support adoption of the practice and to justify the financial expense and amount of instructional time devoted to administering the assessments. This study used existing data of elementary school students in a medium-sized school district who were administered a universal screening measure to investigate the influence of universal screening measures on the diversity of students found eligible for gifted education services. Possible associations between referral source and gifted status were determined, and referral rates, accuracy and identification rates, and effectiveness of various referral sources were calculated. Across demographic groups, universal screeners referred more students than any other referral source, and the highest number of students identified gifted after the full gifted evaluation resulted from these referrals. Teacher referrals and universal screener referrals were found to produce the most diverse identified gifted populations after evaluation; universal screeners displayed the highest referral rates and were the most accurate and effective referral source across all demographic groups. This study adds further research on universal screening to the field of gifted education, and the findings of this study provide educational leaders information regarding the effectiveness of universal screening to translate into institutional practice.

Populismo: uma leitura da psicanálise na teoria política de Ernesto Laclau / Populism: an interpretation of psychoanalysis in the political theory of Ernesto Laclau

Ipar, Maria Cecilia 06 July 2015 (has links)
This work aims to analyze how the conceptualization of populism of Ernesto Laclau is related to psychoanalysis. Particularly, we focus on the main theoretical dimensions of the conceptualization of representation in the theory of hegemony, which allows us to interpret the popular political identity as a discursive setting that assumes a particular subjective change, departing from social demand to the building of a new collective will. Thus we will tackle aspects of nomination and affect in the theory of hegemony in light of some Freudian and Lacanian conceptualizations, such as overdetermination, object of desire, anchoring point (point de capiton), master signifier and joy.
