Reflective - verbal language and reverie in a qualitative interview

Yes / in contrast to dominant approaches to therapy research that look at outcomes and focus on large samples, another primary strand of research considers microphenomenal processes and focuses on small samples. This paper contributes to the latter genre in regard to the implicit impact of language. this paper aims to apply relational psychotherapeutic thinking about empathic dialogue, specifically the concepts of reflective-verbal language and reverie, to qualitative interviewing. Methodology: an example from a small-scale study about emotionally-evocative language is reviewed in detail, focusing on the interviewer’s phenomenological experience of her conversation with a participant in a qualitative interview. Findings: the authors argue that the interviewer’s reflexive awareness of her reveries and the reflective-verbal nature of the research dialogue, gave her an alternative perspective on the participant’s (and her own) experience. Implications: the paper highlights the value within research and practice of maintaining awareness of language at a microphenomenal level, using techniques based on the principles of psychological therapy.

An artists's approach to studio practice reflects knowledge acquired from a variety of source. Various methods are tried, modified, and re-interpreted, culmination in a studio practice that reflects one's own understanding of process and work ethic. This process is the work and the work practice concealed in the artwork, is rarely framed in verbal language. Martin Heidegger offers a particular philosophy of work practice that is clarified in words, allowing me to place my present understanding of studio practice within the notion of Greek techne. This essay is an explication of two works by the German philosopher Martin Heidegger, namely 'The Question Concerning Technology' and 'The origin of the Work of Art.' Heidegger's notion of authentic production and truth in art, provide a contextual framework within which I place my own understanding of studio practice and creative process. This method of work practice positions the artist as facilitator, co-dependent and co-responsible with the materials and form. The artist responds to the needs of the work allowing the materials and form to interact and ultimately reveal the work's true identity. Inherent in this work practice is the artist's knowledge, technical skill and commitment to process rather than outcome. This method of work practice is used in many cultures, from eastern calligraphy to western action painting, and has influenced contemporary artists too numerous to name individually. Delaktighet i vården : när det talas olika verbala språk

SAMMANFATTNING Bakgrund: Delaktighet, vårdrelation och kommunikation är tre centrala begrepp inom hälso- och sjukvården. Detta med tanke på att det är tre faktorer som kan få patienten att påverka dennes hälsoprocess samt att kunna trygghet. Syfte: Att belysa sjuksköterskans förutsättningar och hinder för att skapa delaktighet i vårdrelationen med patienter när samma verbala språk inte talas. Metod: Studien utgår från sjuksköterskans perspektiv och baseras på en kvalitativ analys utifrån Evans (2002) litteraturstudie. Resultat: Det som ansågs vara förutsättningar för delaktighet kunde vara tolkens närvaro för skapandet av delaktighet i vårdrelationen. En tolk i detta sammanhang kunde vara professionell, anhörig eller sjuksköterska. Det som ansågs vara hinder för delaktighet kunde vara användandet av sjuksköterska eller anhörig som tolk. Språkbarriären och brist på förståelse för olika kulturer kunde göra det svårt att skapa en individanpassad vård. Slutsats: När en vårdrelation består av god kommunikation och samspel mellan sjuksköterska och patient skapar det förutsättningar för delaktighet. Det är därför viktigt att tillgå de resurser som krävs och att använda sig av lämpliga verktyg. / Background: Participation, caring relation and communication are three key concepts in health care. These are three factors that can affect the patients’ health process and their need to feel safe. Aim: To show nurse’s opportunities and obstacles to creating participation in the care relationship with patients when the same verbal language is not spoken. Method: The study was based on a qualitative analysis by Evans (2002) literature study that reflects the nurse's perspective. Result: What was considered to be presumptions for participation could be interpreter’s presence for the creation of participation in the caring relation. As a nurse to have knowledge of different cultures could be an advantage for participation in caring relation. What was considered to be obstacles to participation could be overcome by the use of nurses or relatives as interpreters. Language barrier and the lack of understanding of different cultures could make it difficult to create an individualized care. Conclusion: When a care relationship consists of good communication and interaction between nurses and patients it creates the conditions for participation. It is therefore important to access the resources that are necessary and enforce appropriate strategies.

There is no research on the development of the complex disabilities children communication. That is why the goal of this work was to describe the deafblind children communication during the game and play.

CoordenaÃÃo de AperfeiÃoamento de Pessoal de NÃvel Superior / Neste trabalho, analisamos como a multimodalidade (especificamente, atravÃs dos princÃpios de composiÃÃo visual, no Ãmbito da linguagem nÃo-verbal ou visual, e atravÃs do campo [field], das relaÃÃes [tenor], do modo [mode] e da estrutura esquemÃtica, no Ãmbito da linguagem verbal escrita) perpassa a constelaÃÃo de gÃneros cartas. Verificamos, tambÃm, como os princÃpios da composiÃÃo visual interagem com os propÃsitos sociais (campo) ou comunicativos de cada uma das amostras dos gÃneros cartas. Para isso, seguimos a proposta teÃrica de Kress; van Leeuwen (2006), que apontam trÃs princÃpios da composiÃÃo visual de gÃneros, os quais sÃo inter-relacionados, o valor informativo (dado e novo, ideal e real, centro e margem), a saliÃncia e o framing (a moldura); assim como a concepÃÃo de constelaÃÃo, de AraÃjo (2006); as noÃÃes de propÃsitos comunicativos, de Askehave; Swales (2001; 2009) e Swales (2004); as concepÃÃes de campo (field) ou propÃsito social, relaÃÃes (tenor), modo (mode), de Martin; Rose (2008); e a concepÃÃo de estrutura esquemÃtica, de Martin (1992). Analisamos uma amostra composta por 70 exemplares de gÃneros cartas, assim distribuÃdos: a) 10 cartas de apresentaÃÃo; b) 10 cartascorrentes; c) 10 cartas literÃrias (5 cartas direcionadas ao pÃblico infanto-juvenil; 5 cartas, ao pÃblico adulto); d) 10 cartas ao leitor; e) 10 cartas do leitor; f) 10 cartas religiosas; g) 10 cartas de agradecimento. ApÃs a anÃlise, na qual usamos o programa WordSmith Tools, verificamos, em relaÃÃo à linguagem verbal escrita, no modo, os itens lexicais mais recorrentes e mais significativos em cada gÃnero. AlÃm disso, observamos que a abordagem das relaÃÃes (atores sociais), do campo (propÃsitos sociais ou comunicativos) e da estrutura esquemÃtica dessas cartas se mostra relevante, pois revela as caracterÃsticas inerentes a esses gÃneros, nesse Ãmbito da linguagem. No que diz respeito à linguagem visual, a saliÃncia mostra-se produtiva e recorrente em todas as amostras, uma vez que os produtores das cartas em questÃo procuram, principalmente, atrair a atenÃÃo dos âconsumidoresâ, atravÃs do destaque de algumas informaÃÃes, pretendendo, com isso, uma interaÃÃo dos âconsumidoresâ com essas cartas e um posicionamento a respeito delas, o qual, por exemplo, pode se relacionar com a aceitaÃÃo da intenÃÃo comunicativa desse produtor. O framing (moldura) està presente em quase todos os gÃneros, exceto nas cartas literÃrias (direcionadas ao pÃblico adulto). Em suma, o estudo da linguagem verbal escrita e da linguagem visual desses gÃneros revela-se importante para o melhor entendimento das caracterÃsticas peculiares a cada um deles. / In this paper, we analyze how multimodality (specifically, through the principles of visual composition within the nonverbal or visual language, and through the field [field], relations [tenor], mode [mode] and schematic structure within the verbal written language) cuts across the constellation of genre letters as well as how the principles of visual composition interact with social (field) or communicative purposes of each genre letter that will be analyzed in this research. For this, we follow the theoretical proposal of Kress; van Leeuwen (2006), which point out to three principles of visual composition of genres, which are interrelated, the informative value (given and new, real and ideal as well as center and margin), the salience and framing (the frame) and the design of constellation, according to AraÃjo (2006), the notions of communicative purposes of Askehave; Swales (2001, 2009) and Swales (2004), the concepts of field (field) or social purpose, relations (tenor), mode (mode), Martin; Rose (2008), and the design of schematic structure by Martin (1992). A sample of 70 copies of genre letters has been analyzed as follows: a) 10 cover letters or letters of application (employment), b) 10 chain letters, c) 10 literary letters (5 letters directed to children and teenagers, 5 letters to adult audiences) d) 10 letters to the reader, e) 10 letters from the reader, f) 10 religious letters, g) 10 letters of appreciation. After the analysis, in which we use the program WordSmith Tools, we verify that, in relation to written verbal language, in the mode, the most recurrent and meaningful lexical items in each genre. Moreover, the approach of the relations concerning social actors of the field, appointed by social or communicative purposes and the schematic structure of the letters seem very relevant and productive, as it reveals the peculiar characteristics of these genres, in the context of language. Regarding visual language, the principle of projection proved productive and recurrent in all genres once that the writers of these letters mainly look forward to catching the attention of âconsumersâ by highlighting some information, intending thereby an interaction of âconsumersâ with these cards and a position about them, which, for example, can relate to the acceptance of the communicative intent of this producer. The framing (frame) is present in almost all genres except in literary letters (aimed at adults). The informative value (given and new, ideal and real, center and margin) does not provide an actual occurrence despite the fact that the couple has been identified in corpus, possibly due to the fact that these pairs may âstifleâ the dynamic character of the existing visual language in the genres studied. In short, the study of verbal and visual language writing these genres is of importance for a better understanding of the characteristics peculiar to each.

A configuração gráfica do livro didático: um espaço pleno de significados / The graphical configuration of the textbook: a space full of meaning

Desde os primeiros códices até os atuais livros didáticos que são consumidos em quase todo o mundo, não houve grandes mudanças no seu formato: conjunto de folhas amarradas formando uma espécie de livro. Com tão pouca mudança nos códices, é o design que vem influenciando o seu formato e, consequentemente, a forma de interação com o público leitor: capas que despertam a atenção, fotos coloridas, ilustrações, páginas coloridas, inúmeras fontes, materiais diversos etc. Essas mudanças no layout também influenciam a confecção dos livros didáticos e também nas suas formas de uso. Dessa forma, esse projeto verificou como o formato dos atuais livros didáticos de Língua Portuguesa pode influenciar na sua recepção pelos estudantes, tudo isso se baseando em postulados a respeito da semiótica, da leitura e do design gráfico, pois as pesquisas em linguística que envolvem essas áreas são indicativas para a influência da receptividade do usuário. Para isso, foi feito um levantamento das coleções existentes na Biblioteca do Livro Didático (Faculdade de Educação da Universidade de São Paulo). Essa pesquisa, qualitativa e bibliográfica, constatou que há realmente necessidade de se investir na leitura não apenas da parte verbal, mas de toda e qualquer linguagem presente nos livros didáticos. Para isso, é preciso que o professor esteja apto a lidar com esse aspecto de forma a contemplar o que relata os PCN em relação a isso: leitura proficiente ao término dos estudos no Ensino Básico. / From the earliest manuscripts to the current textbooks that are consumed in most of the world, no significant changes have happened concerning its format: a set of sheets tied to form a kind of book. With so little change in the codex, the design itself has influenced its shape and, consequently, how to interact with his readers: covers that attract the attention, color photos, illustrations, color pages, numerous typefaces, several materials etc. These changes in the layout not only influence the construction of textbooks but also its forms of use. Thus, this project analyzed how current Portuguese language textbooks format might influence on their acceptance by the students, based on semiotics, reading and graphic design postulates, once linguistics studies within such areas should be indicated for the understanding of the influence on users receptivity. In order to do so, a comprehensive survey was carried out of the existing collections at the Biblioteca do Livro Didático at the College of Education, São Paulo University. This research, both qualitative and bibliographic, found out that it is really necessary to invest in reading the verbal language and also any other language present in textbooks. Therefore, it is necessary a teacher able to deal with this aspect in order to meet the PCN suggestions about it: reading proficiency at the end of the primary and secondary educational studies.

Usou-se a metodologia da pesquisa descritiva cuja característica mais significativa é a da coleta de dados bibliográficos, estabelecendo-se a comparação de variáveis. Utiliza-se a técnica de análise de conteúdo temático de forma a contribuir para uma pesquisa qualitativa visando à inferência de conhecimento por meio da identificação de características específicas das mensagens e o significado desses conteúdos. Inclui sua fundamentação filosófica, teórica e suas associações e relações em seus contextos sociais. Busca-se deduzir, de maneira lógica, conhecimento sobre o emissor da mensagem e sobre o contexto em que esta foi emitida. / ABSTRACT This work intends to analyze the informational resources adopted in the conduction of Brazilian electoral processes, during the suffrages, and study the practices which identify the use of the sign in the electoral campaigns, aiming to reach its main objective, which is to identify and analyze the use of verbal and non-verbal language in the means of production and dissemination (circulation) of information in Brazilian political electoral process. This research starts from a historical-scientific exposition as a way to identify its perception through the users of political information. Within this proposition, it presents the effects of the use of language in the political electoral development, from the Old Republic to last general election, in 2014. The methodology used was the descriptive research, its most significant characteristic is the collection of bibliographical data, establishing a comparison of variables. The technique of thematic content analysis has been used in order to contribute to a qualitative research aiming the inference of knowledge through the identification of specific characteristics of the messages and meaning of these contents. It includes the theoretical philosophical basis and its associations and relations in its social contexts. It is aimed to deduce, in a logical manner, understanding about the originator of the message and about the context in which the message was sent.

The purpose of the study is to find out how professional preschool teachers work to promote language development in children who have some form of language delay. We want to investigate which working methods the preschool teachers use to support those children with language delays in preschool. In order to be able to answer the study's purpose and questions, we have used a qualitative method in the form of semi-structured interviews. In the study, ten professional preschool teachers were interviewed who work at different preschools within the same municipality. The collected empirical data were analyzed through the phenomenographic methodological approach. The theoretical starting point in our study is Vygotsky's sociocultural perspective.  The results of the study show that preschool teachers have several different ways of working to support the language development of children who have some form of language delay. The results also show that preschool teachers take the support of special educators to get tips and ideas on how they can work with children who have some form of language delay. The conclusion of our research is that the study contributes with knowledge and understanding of how to support the children who have some form of language delay in their language development. But we can see that even more knowledge is needed in the field. / Studiens syfte är att ta reda på hur yrkesverksamma förskollärare arbetar för att främja språkutveckling hos de barn som har någon form av språkförsening. Vi vill undersöka vilka arbetssätt förskollärarna använder sig av för att stötta barn med språkförsening i förskolan. För att kunna svara på studiens syfte och frågeställningar har vi använt oss av kvalitativ metod i form av semistrukturerade intervjuer. I studien intervjuades tio yrkesverksamma förskollärare som arbetar på olika förskolor inom samma kommun. Den insamlade empirin analyserades genom den fenomenografiska metodansatsen. Den teoretiska utgångspunkten i vår studie är Vygotskijs sociokulturella perspektiv. Studiens resultat visar på att förskollärarna har flera olika arbetssätt för att stötta språkutvecklingen hos de barn som har någon form av språkförsening. I resultatet framkommer det även att förskollärarna tar stöd av specialpedagoger för att få tips och idéer på hur de kan arbeta med barnen som har någon form av språkförsening. Slutsatsen av vår forskning är att studien bidrar med kunskap och förståelse för hur förskollärare kan stötta de barn som har någon form av språkförsening i deras språkutveckling. Däremot kan vi se att det behövs ännu mer kunskap inom området.
