Measurement of Game Immersion through Subjective Approach

Chinta, Ruthvik January 2017 (has links)
Context. People in recent times are getting engaged more often in playing video games. Few play for enjoyment, few play for stress relaxation and so on. Generally, the degree of involvement of a player with the game is described as game immersion. People when immersed into playing a game doesn't realize that they are getting dissociated with the outside world and are losing track of time. Objectives. In this research, the main objective is to explore the relationship between the game immersion and game experience using the five factors of game immersion. In addition, the study also involves exploring different methods that can be used to measure game immersion. Methods. In this research, initially literature review has been conducted to explore the meaning of game immersion and also different methods that can be used to measure it and next user studies in the form an experiment was conducted to measure game immersion. After the experiment was conducted regression analysis was performed on the data obtained from the results to describe the relation between game immersion and game experience. Results. After the experiment participants were asked to answer the IEQ questionnaire and the answers obtained from the questionnaire are analyzed using regression analysis. An inverse linear regression was observed between game immersion and game experience. Conclusions. After analyzing the data, from the observed inverse linear regression, it is concluded that game immersion levels decrease with the increase in the game experience.

Kjell, Oscar January 2018 (has links)
The purpose of this paper is to visualize how vital the concept of social sustainability is to secure a sustainable society. To answer this, two surveys have been made. One study examines and compares how selected concepts are highlighted in the curricula Lgy 70, Lpf94 and GY11, in order to answer how the concept of social sustainability changed over time. The second survey analyzes the positive effects that may arise with increased social sustainability in the school. In order to answer this question, an interview has been made with a teacher who has been working for all three curricula. The choice of subject is based on the latest Friends-report, which states that every fourth child in school is exposed to abusive treatment and every tenth child is subjected to bullying. The essay is based on a hermeneutic theory whose purpose is to interpret collected material to bring in a deeper understanding. In order to create a deeper understanding, the essay has used a qualitative method that stands out to give an overall picture. The essay also contains a comparative method for analyzing similarities and differences between the different curricula Lgy70, Lpf94 and GY11. The results of the essay show that the concept of social sustainability has undergone a major change from the 1970s to today. The results also show that if social sustainability is given more space in education, hopefully we can see a reduction in discrimination in school. This would in turn result and contribute to a stronger society.

Kindström, Jennifer, Svanholm, Philippa January 2017 (has links)
The purpose of this thesis is to determine if there are any significant abnormal returns arising when companies announces an upcoming rights offering on the Stockholm exchange. The thesis also considers possible reasons as to why the market react in different ways by examining the offerings’ underlying motives. The thesis adopts a quantitative approach, implemented by adeductive strategy. An event study has been used to study the market movements throughout the RO-announcement. The abnormal return is calculated according to the CAR-model which is later tested for its significance. A multiple linear regression is conducted in order to discover relations between the abnormal return and different independent variables. The main frame of theoretical reference is the Signalling Hypothesis as well as the Efficient Market Hypothesis. The study is also inspired by previous research on the subject, all of which are presented in the chapter. These include both recent and older studies on both American, Asian and European markets. Results conclude a significant negative abnormal return during the event window. There is a significant relationship between the underlying motive of the rights offerings and its abnormal return. However, no significant relationship can be stated between the frequency of the rights offering and its abnormal return. Underlying motive and frequency of RO’s explain theabnormal return by 10,11%.

“Let This Be A Warning: If You Attack Israel, We Will Defend Ourselves” : Assessing defensive and offensive realism as applied upon the Israeli conduct against Iran 2007-2020

Christensson, Gustav January 2021 (has links)
In this theory testing case study the aim is to test which of the two competing theories, defensive and offensive realism, possess the greater explanatory power in regards to the Israeli action against Iran between 2007-2020, while subsequently assessing if either theory is applicable. Two competing analytical models, based around the seminal works of Kenneth Waltz, Stephen Walt, and John J. Mearsheimer, will be applied upon the Israeli actions against the Iranian nuclear program and the Israeli actions against Iran in Syria. The essay utilizes a wide array of sources, from news articles to academic papers, in order to provide a correct description of the events of study. This aim was conceptualized by posing a research question, followed by four competing hypotheses. These will, in conjunction with the analytical models, enable a comparison of the explanatory power the theories possess when applied upon the Israeli conduct against Iran. It is concluded in this paper that defensive realism possesses greater explanatory power when applied upon the Israeli conduct against Iran, compared with offensive realism.

In Search of a Posture of Peace : Nuclear deterrence and the possibility of a Non-Offensive Defence with examples of India, Pakistan and Kazakhstan

Hoekstra, Tijmen January 2021 (has links)
This thesis takes the initial steps to find what it calls a ‘posture of peace’, a counterpart to what Hobbes refers to as a posture of war (Hobbes 1651/2004: 79)1. A posture of war representsdefensive initiatives that can be interpreted by others as a certain preparation for conflict, and its base definition is used as a template to formulate an initial version of a posture of peace2.While keeping this concept as an overarching theme throughout the thesis explores the concepts of nuclear posture and a credible minimum deterrence (CMD) through the examples of India and Pakistan. While the thesis discusses four different nuclear postures, there really are only two categories, namely the pro-nuclear and anti-nuclear posture. The main examples of pronuclear posture used here is the case of India and Pakistan, two geographical neighbouring Nuclear Weapon States (NWS) who have been experiencing ongoing frictions and conflicts since (and prior to) becoming nuclear powers. On the other side Kazakhstan serves as an example of an anti-nuclear posture and in regards to the nuclear debate a possible empirical example of a posture of peace. In addition to these postures there is also the concept of NonOffensive Defence (NOD), which is more exemplified in the Kazakhstan’s approach to their nuclear situation as well as their more contemporary initiative in collaboration with several other neighbouring states to form the Central Asia Nuclear Weapons Free Zone (CANWFZ). The thesis concludes that while NOD finds little support in pro-nuclear posturing, there is ample space for it over on the ani-nuclear posture side of the spectrum which in addition aligns more with the present interpretation of a posture of peace. Moreover, the CANWFZ initiative appears to be as close a perfect example of a NOD in the present case and as close as this stage of the research will come to observing a posture of peace.

Analýza chování vybraných států v Jihočínském moři / Analysis of the behaviour of selected states in the South China Sea

Jetelinová, Denisa January 2019 (has links)
The South China Sea has been already for several centuries the root of a dispute among states neighbouring along its borders, namely the People's Republic of China (China), Vietnam, the Philippines, Indonesia, Brunei, and Malaysia. Since the Sea is very geopolitically and geostrategically important, China attempts to claim itself to be a sovereign. However, its activities face the demands of other states, especially Vietnam and the Philippines, which are also interested in gaining control over the islands in the South China Sea. For that reason, the dispute still persists, and the continuous activities of all concerned countries have created an endless spiral of events in which it is difficult to distinguish between the action and the reaction of individual actors in the dispute. My diploma thesis therefore focuses on the analysis of actions of the three selected countries, China, Vietnam, and the Philippines, from the perspective of structural realism that is split into two contradictory streams, defensive and offensive. Their different views on the world help me to clarify whether the behaviour of the chosen actors is defensive of offensive. For the analysis, the period from 2011 to 2018 was chosen. During that time, several major incidents have appeared between selected countries, especially...

Příčiny Ukrajinské krize / Causes of the Ukraine crisis

Bartáková, Aneta January 2020 (has links)
A liberal understanding of international politics is currently dominant. However, it is important to note that there are still states that have not adopted this understanding, yet, which brings complications here. The current clash of these two understandings, i.e. liberalism and realism, thus constantly forms the security environment. Probably the most obvious case of the present seems to be the case of Ukraine and the related Ukraine crisis. The aim of this diploma thesis is to give a picture of the causes of the Ukraine crisis in a broader context than is generally interpreted across individual media, using an offensive-realistic framework. The motives of the individual actors of the conflict, especially Russia, will be examined in an attempt to present those motives as not primarily offensive but to some extent as defensive. Several research questions will serve me to fulfil the above-mentioned goal - How can the main causes of the outbreak of the conflict in Ukraine be explained from the perspective of offensive realism? According to offensive realism, what actor is responsible for the outbreak of conflict? In terms of offensive realism, how can the motives of the key actors (i.e. Russia, the West) be explained?

“As a school counselor, I can in any case ensure that the student has a good day and that the student wants to come back tomorrow again, even though something bad has happened today.” : -A qualitative study on school counsellors' preventive work against the phenomenon of bullying.

Shemoun, Sabina, Engstrand, Anna January 2021 (has links)
Children spend a lot of their time in school during their childhood. To be able to learn and manage what is required of them, it is important that the school is a safe place to be in with a good environment. The school is also a place where children from different backgrounds come together and the differences can make inequalities occur.  This can lead to bullying and offensive treatment. In these cases, it is required that the school acts, not only for the students to feel good but the school is also obliged to do that by the Swedish law. The aim with this essay is to focus on the school counselor’s prevention against offensive treatment in schools. Since bullying is on the rise, it is important that there is ongoing work to prevent it. Data collection has taken place through interviews and analyzed based on the purpose of the study and issues. The main conclusion that has been seen as an important inference is that bullying needs to work against different preventions.

Multilingual identification of offensive content in social media

Pàmies Massip, Marc January 2020 (has links)
In today’s society there is a large number of social media users that are free to express their opinion on shared platforms. The socio-cultural differences between the people behind those accounts (in terms of ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, politics, . . . ) give rise to an important percentage of online discussions that make use of offensive language, which often affects in a negative way the psychological well-being of the victims. In order to address the problem, the endless stream of user-generated content engenders a need to find an accurate and scalable solution to detect offensive language using automated methods. This thesis explores different approaches to the offensiveness detection task focusing on five different languages: Arabic, Danish, English, Greek and Turkish. The results obtained using Support Vector Machines (SVM), Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) and the Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) are compared, achieving state-of-the-art results with some of the methods tested. The effect of the embeddings used, the dataset size, the class imbalance percentage and the addition of sentiment features are studied and analysed, as well as the cross-lingual capabilities of pre-trained multilingual models.

Escriche Bjare, Mikael January 2021 (has links)
Abstract The use of curses in everyday language, better known as the use of” tacos” in Spanish has increased considerably among women the last decades. In this thesis gender diferencials have been analized and explained, the theme presented is within the subject of area of sociolinguistics which studies communicative aspects between individuals. Inlitially the defenitions are determined and different uses of curses in everyday language are explained.       The analysis is implemented through a mixed method, the first part consists of an analysis of the COLAM (2015) corpus in wich the material has been treated in a quantitative fashioning order to determine the differences in frequency and use among opposing genders. The frequencies are presented in charts to enable the test of the hypothesis that diferences between genders exist in the use of cursing in everyday language. In the second part of the analysis a qualitative method has been applied in which the use of ”tacos” is exemplified and explained using the corpus of PRESEEA (2014). The focus here is to show the diferent functions ans sociolinguistic uses whithin everyday language independent of genders.                                                                              The results of this study shows that gender diferences in the use of ”tacos” exists, and that the diferances mainly consists of the frequency and theme of which boys predominatly uses sexual themes. The presumed increase among girls is probobly due to a change in attitude towards whats considered to be ofensive use of  language during the last decades.
