This diploma thesis focuses on matters of stereotyping of documentary portraits depicting pop music icons. The theoretical part of the thesis deals with issues such as stereotyping as part of media representation of reality, and the definition of term "celebrity" and its specifics in the context of music industry. The term "documentary portrait" is also grasped theoretically. The practical part of the thesis introduces the documentary films which were examined. The methodology of the research and its design are described as well. The final part of the thesis consists of a research report, which includes results acquired by a qualitative survey on the basis of a grounded theory method.

No. of bitstreams: 0 Previous issue date: 2011-04-27 / Objetivos: Revisar as ferramentas para avaliação funcional de dispositivos médicos de uso rotineiro no Instituto do Coração e outros institutos do Complexo Hospital das Clínicas da Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo. Trata-se dos 10 itens de dispositivos médicos com maior número de queixas técnicas e/ou eventos adversos no Sistema Brasileiro de Vigilância Sanitária - NOTIVISA. Teve também como objetivo, elaborar os seus respectivos Procedimentos Operacionais Padrão - POPs, para instrumentar e padronizar a pré-qualificação destes itens de materiais na Rede Hospitais Sentinela e outras instalações de saúde interessados. Métodos: Após comunicação prévia e aceitação da participação no estudo, as Fichas de Avaliações foram enviadas por meio eletrônico para sete Hospitais Públicos e de Ensino com atendimento de alta complexidade e três Hospitais Privados, igualmente referências no atendimento de alta complexidade e pertencentes à rede de Hospitais Sentinelas. O estudo considerou também como critério de inclusão dos hospitais, a presença de um grupo estruturado de profissionais com foco no trabalho de avaliação e ou padronização de materiais antes da aquisição. A estes hospitais foi solicitado que respondessem um questionário com seis questões e sugerissem melhorias nas Fichas de Avaliações Funcional de Materiais enviados. Resultados: Houve a participação de sete Hospitais (dois privados e cinco públicos, dentre os 10 elegíveis) que contribuíram com 495 sugestões. Os 10 itens de materiais totalizaram 16 Fichas de Avaliação Funcional devido ao desdobramento de três materiais com subdivisão: equipos para administração de solução parenteral ou enteral, cateteres periféricos ou centrais e luvas de látex estéreis cirúrgicas ou de procedimento. Em média 60% das sugestões recebidas foram importantes e incorporadas para o aprimoramento das Fichas de Avaliação Funcional de Materiais e elaboração dos respectivos procedimentos operacionais padrão – POPs. Conclusão: As contribuições recebidas forneceram subsídios para revisar as Fichas de Avaliações de Materiais e aprimorá-las conforme objetivo proposto. Taiwan’s pop music is enormously popular in China. This study aims to probe the reasons for this success as it has taken place against a backdrop of hostile political relations between the Taiwanese and the Chinese. The study explores the ways in which Chinese people and the Chinese media have negotiated and practised the work of ‘imagined communities’ through the consumption of Taiwan’s pop. It focuses on the cultural-political struggles of Taiwan’s pop in China, its mediation, and consumption as a cultural practice. The study suggests that deliberative mediation and a sociable mediation are able to coexist through the process of music consumption. The study has used a variety of research methods, including semi-structured interviews of Chinese audience-members; documentary, media and historical analysis; desk research; and a six-month period of observation in Beijing. It examines the experiences of 26 Chinese audience members living in Beijing or Taiwan who are fans of the ‘Little Freshness’ style of music. Four important media texts are discussed: 1) Chinese Central Television’s (CCTV’s) New Year’s Gala (1984–2014); 2) the magazine People’s Music(1980–2007); 3) Li Wan’s book, How Much Time has Gone By, the Forgotten Sorrow: Sixty years of Songs Across Three Places: China’s Mainland, Hong Kong and Taiwan (2012); 4) Zhang Lixian’s edited volume, Archaisms: Luo Dayou (2000). Using the concept of mediation, the study highlights the significance of a ‘structure of feeling’ (Williams, 1961) to identify how the ‘multi-mediated’ process of consumption of Taiwan’s pop is made up of emotion, conflict and negotiation from the interplay of relations between Taiwan and China. This has emerged as a combination of musical mediation and political mediation, a combination which, in turn, moved from the cultural consumption of Taiwan’s pop towards the practice of the political. The study reflects on related approaches to see their limits and problems when applied to the study of Taiwan and China, and proposes that music consumption requires the engagement of the biographies of both the audience-members and the musical work in order to ‘activate’ the social use of music. It draws on Williams’s concept of common culture as well as Mouffe’s idea of agonistic pluralism to suggest that participation in, and interpretation of, Taiwan’s pop may further propel both Taiwan and China towards commonly held, yet contested, cultures - in other words, that their citizens may come to possess plural cultural citizenships.

São destacados, como corpus, textos sincréticos produzidos pela indústria cultural norteamericana: Comic books (chamados de histórias em quadrinhos – HQs – no Brasil). Como a proposta é examinar textos que apresentam o plano de expressão verbal conjugado ao plano de expressão visual (textos sincréticos), o arcabouço teórico baseia-se na teoria Semiótica francesa proposta por A. J. Greimas, uma vez que ocorrem desenvolvimentos consideráveis nos estudos semióticos de textos visuais, realizados a partir da teoria greimasiana. Percebe-se que as HQs, em sua maioria, continham temas infantis e que hoje existem várias HQs direcionadas para o público adulto. Com o objetivo de entender a estrutura e o contexto de produção das HQs produzidas para adultos destaca-se a série Sandman (que é produzida para leitores adultos) para análise. As personagens da série são figurativizações de mitos da Antigüidade Clássica. A dissertação pretende estudar a estrutura narrativa e discursiva do texto, e também a figuratividade e as categorias semi-simbólicas e tensivas no plano de expressão visual. Será discutida a intertextualidade que há entre a série Sandman e a literatura. Este trabalho também tenciona entender como os mitos da Antigüidade, com toda sua carga de significados, são projetados em simulacros passionais e reconstruídos pela indústria cultural contemporânea. A respeito dos mitos, é possível formular uma configuração semântica de natureza patêmica que instaura uma nova mitologia e influi tanto no campo cognitivo quanto no campo afetivo do leitor / This dissertation intends to comprehend the systems of signification of the contemporary cultural industry about the point of view of greimasian semiotic theory. The objects selected, as corpus, are the syncretic texts produced for the north-american cultural industry: Comic books. The propose is to examine texts that presents the verbal plan of expression united with the visual plan of expression (syncretic texts), the theory choosed are the French semiotic propose by A. J. Greimas, because the studies about visual texts, realized for the greimasian theory, are in great development. The comic books, in great part, are characterized by infantile themes, but, nowadays, there are many comic books produced for mature readers. With the objective of to understand the structure and the production context of the comic books produced by mature readers, this work detaches, as corpus, the Sandman series (produced for mature readers), to the analysis. The characters of the series are figurative creations of myths of Classical Antiquity. The dissertation intends to study the narrative and the discursive structure of the text, and also the figurativity and the semi-symbolic categories and the tensive semiotics concepts in the visual plan of expression. Will be discussed the intertextuality between the Sandman series and the literature. This work aims to understand how the ancient myths, with all their content of meanings, are projected in passional simulacrums and reconstructed for the contemporary cultural industry. Concerning the myths, is possible to formulate a semantic configuration of passional nature that establishes a new mythology and influences in the cognition dimensions and also in the affection dimensions of the reader

Esta pesquisa propõe um levantamento e estudo da obra de Milton Kurtz (1951 - 1996), arquiteto e artista que desenvolveu sua técnica basicamente calcada no desenho, participando de grupos de artistas que promoveram um debate e uma efervescência cultural no Rio Grande do Sul no final dos anos 70 e inicio dos 80. O recorte principal está vinculado à presença de uma visualidade que denota sintonia com sua contemporaneidade e com a mídia de massa. Com referenciais nas histórias em quadrinhos, revistas, jornais, anúncios publicitários, cinema e televisão, que compõem sua coleção pessoal, Kurtz constrói uma obra com intensas aproximações ao espírito característico da Pop Art. A pesquisa propõe um levantamento destas aproximações, bem como o estudo de sua poética que apresenta forte viés erótico, explorando questões do corpo e revelando ambiguidades e dualidades ligadas tanto à bidimensionalidade quanto às questões de gênero. O presente estudo visa ainda, contribuir para o devido registro na história da arte no estado, não apenas da obra de Milton Kurtz, mas também do KVHR, grupo de artistas do qual participou ativamente desde novembro de 1977 a maio de 1980, junto com Julio Viega, Paulo Haeser e Mário Röhnelt. / This research proposes a survey and study the works of Milton Kurtz (1951 - 1996), architect and artist who developed his technique essentially based on drawing, participating in groups of artists that promoted a discussion and a cultural effervescence in state of Rio Grande do Sul in the final of the 70's and beginning of the 80's. The main bias is linked to the presence of a visuality that shows a link with his contemporary and the mass media. With references in comics, magazines, newspapers, advertisements, movies and television, making up his personal collection, Kurtz produced an intense work with verifiable approaches to the spirit characteristic of Pop Art. The research proposes a survey of these approaches, and the study of his poetic feature that shows a strong bias erotic, exploring issues of body and revealing ambiguities and dualities related to the bi-dimensionality and to the gender issues. This study also aims to contribute to the proper record in the history of art in the state, not just the work of Milton Kurtz, but also the KVHR, group of artists which participated actively since November 1977 to May 1980, with Julio Viega, Paulo Haeser and Mário Röhnelt.

abstract: Through ideologies of gender identity, gender as performance, sexuality, and the transgressions thereof, this document serves as a memoir inside of a memoir. I made a pop concert dance piece through a western dance aesthetic with my thesis paper detailing the experience. What did that look like? Throughout this paper, I will explain my thought process, expectations, and experience through writing, which is a more challenging task for me. I am not an academic writer, but rather a rebel with a cause. My cause is to transgress the system in any way I’m able - through words, dance, and expression. As opposed to the artistic dance piece itself, this paper’s purpose is one of both selfish intent and catharsis. Given this, I approached my thesis paper with the same mindset used when developing my piece, in that I rebel fighting against the heteronormative standards that have run my life. I don’t fill this document with regurgitated theory. This work concerns the way in which this music criticism in cultural journalism legitimized Madonna especially Rolling Stone magazine. This is a historical process in which the construction of value was being scheduled by the authorities - above all - of cultural journalism. Synthesized Thus, the objectives of this work: to analyze how the Rolling Stone scheduled Madonna's career over its 30 years of existence, in his critical reviews of their albums and performances on tours. Identifies discursive marks related to cultural values undertaken by journalists in treating artist's works. It is understood, therefore, the contradictions of the products presented as Madonna articles endowed with aesthetic connected to the pop culture. Maps the notion of value and how it is used by Rolling Stone for products presented by Madonna. / A fortuna crítica sobre a produção musical de Madonna traz à tona elementos que compõem o discurso dos jornalistas especializados na cobertura de assuntos culturais. Este trabalho diz respeito à maneira com que a crítica musical presente no jornalismo cultural legitimou Madonna em especial a revista Rolling Stone. Trata-se de um processo histórico em que a construção de valor foi sendo agendada pelas instâncias – sobretudo – do jornalismo cultural. Sintetiza-se, assim, os objetivos deste trabalho: analisar como a Revista Rolling Stone agendou a carreira de Madonna ao longo dos seus 30 anos de existência, em suas resenhas críticas dos álbuns e suas performances em turnês. Identifica-se marcas discursivas ligadas a valores empreendidos por jornalistas culturais no tratamento de obras da artista. Entende-se, portanto, as contradições dos produtos apresentados por Madonna enquanto obras dotadas de uma estética ligada à cultura pop. Mapeia-se a noção de valor e como ele é utilizado pela Revista Rolling Stone para os produtos apresentados por Madonna.

Para tanto, nos apoiamos basicamente nas reflex?es cr?ticas dos te?ricos: Lipovetsky (1996) e Adorno (2011), que discutem cultura e forma??o social na modernidade. / The Brazilian writer, Caio Fernando Abreu, was strongly influenced by a period of changes in social values and perspectives. When he enters the Brazilian literary scene using a writing style free from form and content, he applies in his works all the affliction of the contemporary values. His work embodies all the spirit of a generation that, despite its anxiety for freedom, was still suffocated by the military dictatorship period. Abreu?s narrative also reveals an author with an extreme ability to shift between the erudite and the popular. In his short stories, he develops a performative language mingled by references that turns his text into a sort of Pop Art iconography. Just like Pop Art paintings, full of Coke images, cigarettes, tooth paste and food cans, Abreu?s literary discourse is painted by many symbolical references to modern consumerism, as well as to movies, music and to pop stars. This trace in the writer?s works exerts a great deal of attractiveness on the contemporary reader. In this work, we attempt to analyze this resource in Abreu?s literature under the concepts of cultural studies; thus, we aim at analyzing the various forms of the mass culture expression inside Abreu?s literature, recognizing his allusions as a stylish resource in his writings and highlighting its relevance in the study of the author work. In order to do so, we are based essentially on the reflections of theoreticians: Lipovetsky (1996) and Adorno (2011) who debate the culture and social formation in contemporaneity.

Att leda en ensemble med olika musikaliska förutsättningar kan bjuda på utmaningar då det är många behov som ska tillgodoses på samma gång. Läroplanens krav om individanpassad undervisning ökar pressen för lärare att kunna bemöta alla individer i den svenska skolan i dag, och en fördjupad kunskap kring ämnet krävs för att läraren ska lyckas att få sina elever att nå målen. I denna studie utforskas olika tillvägagångssätt att lära ut låtar till en pop- och rockensemble där deltagarna har olika kunskapsnivå. Syftet är att utforska metoder som passar för mer respektive mindre erfarna deltagare i en ensemble samt se vilka resurser och utmaningar som finns i en ensemble med olika musikaliska förutsättningar. Studien har inletts med en aktionsforskning på en pop & rock-ensemble som dokumenterats med enkäter från deltagarna och dagbok från mig, ensembleläraren. Därefter genomfördes en kvalitativ intervju med de deltagande. Till grund för analysen ligger det kulturpsykologiska perspektivet, Vygotskijs teori om den proximala inlärningszonen samt teorien om kulturella verktyg. Resultatet visar att föredraget tillvägagångssätt verkar bero lika mycket på vilket instrument deltagaren spelade som vilken nivå de var på. Resultatet visar även att erbjudande av olika kulturella verktyg ökar sannolikheten för att både mer och mindre erfarna kan lära utifrån sin kunskapsnivå. En resurs i studien var att kamratlärande uppstod som strategi i processer där ensembleledaren inte räckte till, medan en utmaning var att anpassa undervisningens utefter varje bandmedlems proximala inlärningszon. Studien visar också på att trivsel och ett stödjande psykiskt klimat i en grupp spelar en avgörande roll i hur ett lektionstillfälle som helhet upplevs, och att ett tillvägagångssätt med rytmik verkade vara det som både mer och mindre erfarna deltagare tyckte bäst sammanlagt om. Om toleransen för varandras olika kunskapsnivå höjs, och personers olikheter ses på som en resurs istället för motsatsen tror kan det leda till en mer inkluderande musikvärld och i förlängningen en bättrad självkänsla bland människor i vårat samhälle.
