Diagnosing organisational culture and critical success factors for an airline : the case of Thai Airways International in Star AllianceHongratana-Uthai, Narisara January 2011 (has links)
In the past two decades, a need in forming strategic alliance has become increasingly important, especially for small companies. Likewise, airline alliances act as a vehicle for small carriers to obtain their superior position or to survive competition in a competitive international market where they do not appear to be a dominant player. In strategic alliances, the greater integration conveys greater benefits. However, the level of failure and success are varied among alliance members. This thesis was underpinned by the aim to conduct an in-depth study under the concept of organisational culture to reveal the key issues and barriers that appear to distort the ability of an organisation to foster success as well as to boost up its ability to obtain the benefits from the alliances to the maximum level. The empirical investigation employed a qualitative approach as a mechanism, driving this thesis through the process of research design, data collection, and data analysis. Using a single case study as a main technique, the case company of this thesis is Thai Airways. Data was collected through in-depth and semi-structured interviews. Data was analysed using thematic grouping and organised through NVIvo software. This thesis displayed the findings into two main themes. The first theme is associated with the activity to diagnose organisational culture, whereas the Competing Values Framework (CVF) was adopted as an initial framework. The main objectives are to develop a cultural profile for Thai Airways and to identify the key issues and barriers that distort the ability of Thai Airways to foster success. The key finding derived from this theme offered the identified problems and barriers derived from organisational culture. Using the Critical Success Factors (CSFs) method, the second theme is associated with the activity to identify the critical success factors for Thai Airways, deriving as a set of CSFs proposed to help enhance the ability of Thai Airways to obtain big firm's benefits. The outcome of this thesis could be considered as a new reference for the areas of organisational studies and the success of airlines, where the literature appears to be limited. More importantly, this thesis believed that the research journey offered an empirical experience reflecting a piece of organisational culture study in a non-Western context.

Olausson, Daniel, Sundberg, Erik January 2008 (has links)
The purpose of this BA-thesis was to learn the differences in news broadcasts between one public service radio channel and two commercial radio channels. To do this we used a quantitative analysis method to examine the content of the news broadcasts and then we conducted in-depth interviews with several people working with the different radio channels using a qualitative research interview method to learn their views on news and news broadcasting. We measured the differences between the channels in six areas: subject, headline, news presentation, gender, advertising and sources. Our two main theories were normative theory and media logic. The results found that there were several major differences between the public service radio channel and the two commercial radio channels. Apart from several important differences in the six measured categories we also found that the sound and tone in the public service radio channel was very different from the two commercial radio channels. We also found the public service radio channels news broadcasts to be more serious than the two commercials ones’.

This study intends to examine why the Swedish children’s programme Bolibompa is produced the way it is during a larger catastrophe. Our intention was to find out how the editorial staff, in the children’s department in the public service television of Sweden (SVT),was handling the Estonia disaster, the September 11 attacks and the Asian Tsunami. To accomplish that, we first had to find out how the children’s programme looked during these catastrophes and also understand how the editorial staff was working with children’s programme during ordinary days. To achieve our purpose we have been interviewing five persons from SVT, who was involved in producing the children’s programme during these three catastrophes. The method we used was qualitative research interview and theories of socialisation, media effects, social responsibility and theories of rhetoric mass media guided our study. We found out that the editorial staff was producing the children’s programme differently during each catastrophe. When the Estonia disaster occurred, the children’s programme was delayed because of extended news. Next to the children’s programme a host was talking directly to the children trying to explain the accident. The day after the September 11 attacks the host of the children’s programme was discussing the catastrophe with invited guests in the TV studio. The editorial staff thought that many children were frightened at the time and that explains why they decided to keep a conversation. During the Asian Tsunami, SVT was broadcasting a Christmas special, and the children’s programmes weren’t changed at all, mostly because a break in the Christmas series would cause a lot of problems.

Att skriva tillsammans : En undersökning av elevers syn på samarbete och respons i skrivprocessen i åk 4 / To write together : A study of pupils´ views on cooperation and response in the writing process in grade 4Welander, Rosemarie January 2017 (has links)
I undersökningen användes två metoder. / The purpose of this study is to find out what pupils think about writing texts together and how response can create cooperation between pupils when they write texts. Two methods were used in the study. One method was an interview and the other one was an observation. The purpose of the interviews was to find out what the pupils thought about writing texts together and what they thought about response. The purpose of the observations was to see how response was used in the classroom and in what way the pupils cooperated by writing texts together. Another purpose with the observations was to find out how cooperation and response emerges in the interaction between pupils. The result of the study showed that what the pupils thought about cooperation and response was different from how it was in reality. At the same time three different elements behind the cooperation and response between pupils could be found. The three elements was the need to confirm, the need to know (knowledge) and the need to compare texts.

Massor av jord och berg från byggande : Förändring och lärande ur ett entreprenörsperspektiv / Masses of soil and rock from the construction : Change and learning from a contractor perspectiveLagergren, Sofie January 2014 (has links)
Every year there arise large volumes of soil and rock masses at ground and excavation work. These masses must be handled, often driven off to the landfill and is replaced with new material. There are no exact numbers on how big the masses are. But approximately every fourth truck in Stockholm County drive around with soil and rock masses on their load, this is both costly and resource intensive. There used to be stockpile and open-pit mining more central, but with the densification of Stockholm these are moved farther and farther away from the building sight, with the result that transportation becomes more expensive, while there is a slow depletion of soil and rock resources. Recycling of soil and rock masses would mean that the material does not need to be shipped around, and new material does not need to be manufactured. Today there is no question about who owns these masses and there is no clear picture of the actors involved. The purpose of this study is that through a stakeholder analysis and qualitative interviews to clarify the roles, as well as find out their attitude regarding recycling techniques. The study also aims to find out where in a learning process which the actors are. The result shows that the building and construction industry does not have a holistic approach and that many actors are able to influence the flow of soil and rock masses. It also shows that the attitude towards using recycling technology is positive, but that the economic interests of are the ruler in question. In the result can also be seen that it is impossible to draw a general conclusion about where in a learning process the industry can be find, but missing of education and unclear rules inhibits the development.

Gaskunders informationsbehov. Larsson, David January 2012 (has links)
Stockholm Gas AB säljer i huvudsak två olika produkter. Kunderna har i studien delats in i fyra segment. / Stockholm Gas AB sells essentially two different products. One is the town gas and the other vehicle gas. Both products will eventually have substantially the biogas as a feedstock. In the current situation though, the city gas consists mainly of natural gas mixed with air. Stockholm Gas AB has undergone major changes and facing new ones. The year 2011 marked a major step in Stockholm Gas climate and environmentally friendly development. The former town gas is based on light petroleum was replaced with a town gas quality consisting of natural gas and / or biogas is mixed with air. In addition to this change, the Stockholm Gas also developed its role as a supplier of biogas as vehicle fuel. New mains for the supply of biogas are under construction to link up biogas production locations with different filling stations. Stockholm Gas AB being a relatively young company, combined with the significant changes mentioned above, Stockholm Gas AB have a need to develop their communication to their customers. This study is a part of that development of communication. The study's overall purpose is to provide Stockholm Gas AB with a basis to develop and improve its communications with its various customer segments in terms of both information channels and the information contents regarding Stockholm Gas AB's both products and the raw material biogas. The aim is that the report should serve as a basis and a guide to Stockholm Gas AB in the preparation of information material relating to its products and raw material biogas, as well as helping Stockholm Gas AB's marketing department to better communicate with the Stockholm Gas AB's customers. Central to this study is to determine what type of information that Stockholm Gas AB's customers are interested in and their channels of choice, and compare this with the views of the staff at Stockholm Gas AB. The customers have in the study been divided into four segments. These segments are vehicle gas key accounts, (mainly taxi companies), vehicle gas private customers, town gas key accounts (primarily chefs) and town gas private customers. The study was conducted through qualitative interviews with employees at the Stockholm Gas AB, and with each of the customer segments. Interview responses to each question have been categorized and from this conclusions have been drawn and results been designed. A result is presented for each of the segments in the form of a Venn diagrams, and in a more deliberative part of the result.

Att utveckla en kurs i miljösäkrade inköp / How to develop an education focusing on environmentally secure purchaseLarsson, Madeleine January 2009 (has links)
Today we see a growing need and interest in working towards sustainable development. To be able to contribute to a sustainable development as individuals/business we need to emphasize the importance of education and contextualisation that learning occurs in a sense that is relevant to the learner. This is the background to this study, which in turn is the basis for an education that focuses on how to environmentally secure your purchases, an opportunity for us to set environmental standards purchasing products and services. The process for purchase is considered by many to be a key factor in businesses work towards sustainable development. Key people in this process and target audience for this education is environmental, purchasing and procurement managers. The purpose of this study is to design an education called Miljösäkrade inköp from the target audiences’ knowledge, interests and attitudes, together with literature. The first step is a study of the target audiences’ needs and concerns in areas concerning environmentally secured purchase. This study has been done through qualitative research interviews which in turn has been the basis of av reflection on the content and didactic approach for this education. The theoretical basis for this study highlights for an example education for sustainable development, teaching traditions of environmental problems, adult didactics and problem-based learning. The results of the qualitative research interviews show for an example that the participants have a range of different motives for taking the environment into account in their purchases. They all illustrate the importance of having a holistic approach, but also the difficulty in realizing it. Several of those who have been interviewed indicate a difficulty to see ecological, social and economic factors as a whole. Based on interview results and literature, I point out three areas that will permeate the education Miljösäkrade inköp; the democratic conversation, a conversation in which views and values of all those who are involved are considered to be significant, a holistic approach to sustainability and ethical aspects. And based on these three areas you’re given suggestions for exercises and interesting issues to highlight during the education.

The following work is a study of Revolver Revue as a social phenomenon in which the author works towards capturing its main defining features and its developments over time, including it's noteworthy changes as well as the continuity which the organization has seen. Also focused upon are the specific social groups related to Revolver Revue, the specific institutions and the interaction of important actors involved, all perceived through a political and historical context. This work is centred around qualitative empirical research based on analyses of interviews and on the study of related documents. The approach taken to this study was heavily influenced by Grounded Theory.

Bilden i betraktarnas ögon : En intervjustudie om betraktarnas upplevelse av bildkonstSkude, Per January 2023 (has links)
The concept of art experience among beholders is well-known but lacks empirical studies on everyday art experiences among laypersons. In this bachelor thesis, the appearance of layperson beholders’ art experience is explored by a qualitative interview study method. Eleven chosen responders are individually interviewed at Härnösand Art Gallery beholding the same assorted visual artwork. Descriptions and narratives are compared to artists’ intentions as shown in a separate interview. The theoretical approach leans on psychology and perception in art, focusing on the aesthetics of reception. Although a small-scale investigation in a rather narrow context, the investigation shows interesting findings: It highlights the frequency and intensity of everyday art experience in laypersons and the easiness of defining pictorial art from other informative or commercial pictures. Further, it highlights that the process of art experience perception has a strong hold of autonomy and is perceived as very personal and part of own personality. It also shows the rapid perception and endurance of mood as response and interpretation in contrast to the continuous processing of details and meaning. Lastly, the comparison of the artist’s intention and the beholders’ experience shows concordance. These properties of everyday common art experience can be a causal factor for the general prevalence of art in society.
