The present research arises from questions concerning the formation of genres at new digital on-line supports from the internet. Particularly, the construction of referents in on-line discussion educational foruns on distance education (EAD, in this work) has called our attention as a potentially hybrid genre (spoken / written). In order to explore these issues, we have investigated the referential stratagies used in five discussion educational foruns and five editions of a TV show and verified the hypothesis that there might be a hybridism of spoken and written modalities in the EAD foruns. This hypothesis arises from the presupposition that, altough this genre is realized in the written modality, it brings clear characteristics from its oral origins: the classical foruns. The specific focus of the analysis, which is the study of the referential chains in the online discussion educational foruns, is motivated by the observation of a possible role of these stratagies in the configuration of the hybridism. The analysis was carried out on the basis of a chart of referential strategies, which had been proposed in Simas (2009), and refined for the present research . The theoretical framework of this study is twofold: the main concepts of Referential Theory (cf. RONCARATI, 2010; RONCARATI; NEVES DA SILVA, 2006; NEVES DA SILVA, 2002, 2007; KOCH 2002, 2004, 2006), which emerge from Textual Linguistics, and Genre Theory (cf. MARCUSCHI 2005, 2010; HEMAIS; BIASI_RODRIGUES, 2005; BAHKTIN, 1979; BRONCKART, 1999; SWALES, 1990, 1998, 2004). The results have demonstrated that the foruns and the TV show have the same most frequent referential stratagies, such as pronouns, with or without deixis; ellipsis and implicit mecanisms such as metaphors, metonymy, meronymy and associative anaphor. These results seem to corroborate our hypothesis concerning the hybridism of digital genres, which are increasingly present in our daily discourse practices.

Theory and intuition in psychotherapy

Shirley, Derek William 01 1900 (has links)
This study is an account of the development of a personal, intuitive epistemology for psychotherapy, and an exploration of some possible implications thereof for a general professional epistemology. Initial analysis of the author's problematic clinical cases revealed that assumptions regarding the nature and process of therapy predisposed the author to a reliance on rational, theoretically founded therapeutic praxis. When rationality was perceived not to be achieving the desired ends in therapy, the author experienced escalating, critical self-consciousness, and worked ever harder at improved rational problem-solving. This constituted a self-reinforcing problem cycle during 'stuck' consultations. The premise that effective action is rational was seen to constitute a weltanschauung of the therapist, and understood to be inconsistent with the postmodern frame of ecosystemic theory. A hermeneutic .action research process was initiated, its concern to accommodate spontaneity as an antidote to rigidifying rationality in the author's clinical and academic praxis. The exploration of spontaneity and intuition was massively influenced by the author's unexpected immersion in shamanic tradition, itself predicated on mythological and intuitive construction of "a" world, rather than denotive description of 'the' world, as is the case in logocentric practice. i'he social disjunction and existential challenge occasioned by immersion in such tradition occasioned angst in the author, and it took years to find an uneasy rapprochement between the different contexts of the author's life. Nonetheless, a change in the author's epistemology and clinical praxis were effected, and the initial problematic clinical situation - partly a consequence of a relational stance entailed in notions of objectivity, a hidden concomitant of logocentrism - has not recurred. A case which evokes the revised epistemology and cognitive-affectiverelational stance of the author is presented. The possibility of an intuitive psychotherapy and its coherence with ecological thought and the tenets of postmodernism and narrative therapy are explored. / Psychology / D. Litt. et Phil. Attention following and nonverbal referential communication in bonobos (Pan paniscus), chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes) and orangutans (Pongo pygmaeus)

Madsen, Elainie Alenkær January 2011 (has links)
A central issue in the study of primate communication is the extent to which individuals adjust their behaviour to the attention and signals of others, and manipulate others’ attention to communicate about external events. I investigated whether 13 chimpanzees (Pan troglodytes spp.), 11 bonobos (Pan paniscus), and 7 orangutans (Pongo pygmaeus pygmaeus) followed conspecific attention and led others to distal locations. Individuals were presented with a novel stimulus, to test if they would lead a conspecific to detect it in two experimental conditions. In one the conspecific faced the communicator, while another required the communicator to first attract the attention of a conspecific. All species followed conspecific attention, but only bonobos in conditions that required geometric attention following and that the communicator first attract the conspecific‘s attention. There was a clear trend for the chimpanzees to selectively produce a stimulus directional ‘hunching’ posture when viewing the stimulus in the presence of a conspecific rather than alone (the comparison was statistically non-significant, but very closely approached significance [p = 0.056]), and the behaviour consistently led conspecifics to look towards the stimulus. An observational study showed that ‘hunching’ only occurred in the context of attention following. Some chimpanzees and bonobos consistently and selectively combined functionally different behaviours (consisting of sequential auditory-stimulus-directional-behaviours), when viewing the stimulus in the presence of a non-attentive conspecific, although at species level this did not yield significant effects. While the design did not eliminate the possibility of a social referencing motive (“look and help me decide how to respond”), the coupling of auditory cues followed by directional cues towards a novel object, is consistent with a declarative and social referential interpretation of non-verbal deixis. An exploratory study, which applied the ‘Social Attention Hypothesis’ (that individuals accord and receive attention as a function of dominance) to attention following, showed that chimpanzees were more likely to follow the attention of the dominant individual. Overall, the results suggest that the paucity of observed referential behaviours in apes may owe to the inconspicuousness and multi-faceted nature of the behaviours.

Evaluation des politiques publiques de santé : une analyse économique appliquée au Cameroun / Evaluation of health policies : an economic analysis applied to Cameroon

Nkwenkeu, Sylvain F. 04 April 2014 (has links)
In Cameroon, the sequence of reforms in the health sector has reinforced an ideological wavering between two opposing currents: a socio-universal that promotes equity, and a neoliberal, which militates for greater economic efficiency of existing systems. Articulating two concerns which are, the worsening of health inequalities as consequence of policy choices made on the efficacy of services without taking into account factors that support the demand, and the form of organization of the health system arising from an imperfect translation of major international principles, this thesis aims to contributing to a critical reflection on the process, the implementation and the results produced by these health policies. To determine Cameroonian specificity, we inscribe them in a triple theoretical field. The neo-institutionalist approach, mobilize to grasp the importance of the economic history and its influence on the evolution of the health system, which allows understanding the conditions for policy change. The “referentials” approach to policy analysis in order to apprehend the foundations of the new public policy, including the understanding of how interests and ideas are formatted by institutions. An effort to illuminate the policy game is undertaken to appraise the mediation of political entrepreneurs, thereby testing empirically the “top-down hypothesis”. Finally, the theories of justice help to argue for the existence of an imbalance between health supply and demand which undermines health outcomes, and reinforces the conflict efficacy versus equity. Indeed, our work aims to provide some answers to three main questions: (i) Why (triggers) and how (dynamic) health public policies are influenced in their construction and implementation by economic policies? (ii) What are the outcomes of induced changes by the global referential (macroeconomic framework) on sectoral referential that requires a more equitable distribution and access to health services? (iii) What lessons can we learn from the knowledge of the interrelationships between the dynamics of poverty reduction and the persistence of inaccessibility to health care in order to improve the evaluation of public policies? From a number of quantitative and qualitative indicators, the robustness of the new policy is questioned following prospects regarding health distribution and accessibility. Therefore, we emphasize the difficulty of the public policy to achieve satisfactory results both in terms of efficacy or equity due to the institutional and organizational system in which it is designed and implemented. Three epistemic communities acting on a nonstructural basis are identified and analyzed through a robust qualitative material that enables us to grasp the existence of a paradigmatic conflict emerged from how different groups are positioning themselves and interpret reality in order to put in coherence the sectorial referential and the global market-based one which appears to be rather spontaneous and mandatory. Statistical and econometric works to measure more precisely the inequalities and determinants of access and use of health services by the population supports the idea of a widening of inequalities by the health policies maintained by strong regressive mechanisms. The analysis of the determinants of occurrence of catastrophic health expenditures also confirms this. We mobilize thereafter an additional material to assess the allocative efficiency and efficacy of public spending on health as well as their impact on the use of services and benefits revealed from their use.

The semantic-referential gaps in the representation of the Other, The french travel stories in Persia in the 19th century

Pourmazaheri, Afsaneh 27 March 2017 (has links)
This work investigates the perception and the discursive representation of Persian exotic referents filtered by a western look in nineteen travel stroeis of French travelers of the nineteenth century. Traveler-enunciators, placed in a foreign linguistic and cultural context, attempt to transcribe what they see according to their intellect, cognition, experience and feelings. This representation is not flat, objective or neutral. A series of discursive, linguistic, cultural, subjective elements marked by alterity filter the perception or modify the representation that the author-traveler gives of the referent and the referential universe to which he is confronted. It is in this "western way" of seeing "oriental things" and the question of subjectivity in the representation of the other that we are interested in this study. It is not necessary to establish a dichotomy between a good or a bad vision of the world in a space shifted but only to raise linguistically and discursively the elements that translate this "semantic-referential gap" in the representation of the referent in this type of text. To carry out this research we had to articulate three levels of analysis: lexicon, textuality and discourse. Information on the context is first proposed to leave room for the question of the representation and the restrictions (textual, subjective, ideological) of this transmission of data mainly descriptive. We analyze the discursive effects produced by the use of these linguistic resources and by the enunciative positions. These linguistic and discursive analysis tools make it possible to highlight this look marked by otherness in nineteen travel stories. The results of this critical discursive analysis constitute so much concrete data to be inserted in the field of the postcolonial of Orientalism.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Silvia Augusta de Barros Albert Bachur.pdf: 1334506 bytes, checksum: b6aa31f6545bda3c38cf3b76f8f03d41 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-03-01 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Situated in the research line of Reading, Writing and Portuguese Language Teaching of the Postgraduate Studies Program in Portuguese Language of The Pontifical Catholic University of São Paulo (PUC-SP), this thesis takes as subject matter the anaphoric referential processes in college entrance essays. The hypothesis is that, by building argumentatively-oriented discourse objects, anaphoric referential processes enable to comply with college entrance essay proposals. The general goal is to investigate the relation between anaphoric referential processes and the exposure of the producer‟s position regarding a proposed theme. In order to achieve it, the following specific aims were established: (1) identifying both the discourse objects and their recategorization in college entrance essays; (2) identifying, describing, analyzing, and interpreting the anaphoric processes in college entrances essays; and (3) pondering upon the relation between such processes and the exposure of the producer‟s position vis-à-vis a proposed theme. This work is grounded both on Text Linguistics in its socio-cognitive and interactional perspective (KOCH, 2003, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2011; MARCUSCHI, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008; CAVALCANTE et al., 2010; BENTES E REZENDE, 2008, 2014; CAVALCANTE, 2011; CAVALCANTE, CUSTÓDIO FILHO E BRITO, 2104; MORATO, 2011), and on studies on context (HANKS, 2008; VAN DJIK, 2012). The examined corpus consists of 70 college entrance essays collected from the 2014 entrance exam of PUC-SP. As to the analysis, two categories were first established: (1) direct and indirect anaphora (regarding the anchoring processes), and (2) encapsulating anaphora (regarding their discursive functions). The research celebrates both the submitted hypothesis and the stated objectives, indicating new perspectives for the teaching and learning of writing and reading in view of the development of writing proficiency, chiefly regarding textual-discursive strategies / Esta tese situa-se na linha de pesquisa Leitura, Escrita e Ensino de Língua Portuguesa, do Programa de Estudos Pós-Graduados em Língua Portuguesa da Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo (PUC-SP), e tem como tema os processos referenciais anafóricos em redações de vestibular.

Juan Natalicio González (1897-1966): um intelectual plural / Juan Natalicio González (1897-1966): an plural intellectual

This thesis seeks to identify the main intellectual and political objectives of Juan Natalicio González (1897-1966), a Paraguayan writer who played an extensive variety of activities (journalist, essayist, editor, politician, Colorado Partys member and diplomatic). From the analysis of their biographies, their own texts (autobiography, essays and magazine Guarania) and the study done by historians we consider that Gonzalez partially achieved his political ambitions, because he became president of his country but he was deposed and did not return to play a leading role in the national political scene. He succeeded in spreading and consolidation of the revisionist interpretation of Paraguayan history, after participating in various groups of Latin American intellectuals who widely reproduced his version of the history.
