Análise da existência de máxima fase estável de lactato nos exercícios resistidos leg press 45º e supino reto / Analysis of the existance of a maximal lactate steady state on resistance exercises leg press 45° and bench pressMagosso, Rodrigo Ferro 26 July 2010 (has links)
The purpose of the study was to verify if there is a maximal lactate steady state (MLSS) for the Leg Press (LP) and Bench Press (BP) exercises and to analyse ventilatory responses ventilation (Ve) and oxygen uptake (VO2), heart rate (HR), blood lactate concentration (BLC) and ratings of perceived exertion (RPE) to those exercises performed on MLSS intensity and to compare those responses for the exercises. 12 young healthy men with a minimal experience of 6 months of resistance training volunteered for the study. Volunteers underwent a 1 repetition maximum test (1RM), na incremental test to determine anaerobic threshold (AT) and three more sessions to determine MLSS. Session were performed on the same time of Day and separeted by a 48-72h interval. 1RM values for LP and BP were 298,0 ± 36,6kg and 93,7 ± 21,8 kg, respectively. The maximal intensity in the incremental test was 70 ± 12,25% of 1RM for LP and 50,00 ± 8,16% of 1RM for BP, which was a significant difference (p0,05). Post-test blood lactate concentration (BLS) was also significantly higher for LP (8,36 ± 2,34 vs. 5,43 ± 1,12 mmol/L, respectively) (p0,05). AT intensity and was not significantly different for LP and BP (27,9 ± 3,7% vs. 24,1 ± 3,6, respectively). BLC on AT was not significantly different for LP (2,29 ± 0,58 mmol/L) and BP (2,52 ± 0,65). MLSS intensity on LP (29,17 ± 7,02% of 1RM) was significantly higher (p0,05) compared to MFEL on BP (21,67 ± 4,44% of 1RM). When compared to AT, MLSS intensity for LP was not significantly different, but for BP it was significantly lower. During exercise on MLSS, oxygen uptake and ventilation, HR and RPE rose significantly compares to rest and then stabilized. There were no differences between exercises. These results show that it is possible to identify a MLSS on the LP and BP exercises, and that for LP this intensity is higher. The differences found between exercises can be atributted to the intrinsic caractheristics of each exercise.

Previous issue date: 2012-08-24 / Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais / The thesis consisted of three studies described below. Study I, which aimed to investigate the effect of aging on kinetic responses of heart rate (HR) and oxygen consumption (VO2) during rest-exercise (ontransient) and exercise-recovery transitions (off-transient), and to investigate the influence of exercise intensity (mild and moderate) on the kinetic parameters of these variables. 28 apparently healthy men were evaluated, and 14 constituted the young group (YG) and 14 the elderly group (EG). The evaluation consisted of applying an incremental exercise testing of ramp protocol on cycle-ergometer (IET-R) to determine the maximum power (MP) and discontinuous exercise test on a cycle ergometer (DET-C), which started with an initial power load of 10% of MP with subsequent increase of 10% until exhaustion. Were recorded ventilatory and metabolic variables, the HR and blood lactate at rest and during exercise. The lactate threshold (LT) was closed between the groups (approximately 30% of MP). The EG showed higher values of the kinetic responses, both on and off transitions of HR and VO2 (p<0.05), and the values were higher in moderate compared to mild in YG (p<0.05). We conclude that the elderly have slower kinetic responses of HR and VO2 in relation to young and that at moderate intensity; the kinetic responses were slower in relation to mild intensity in young. Following, the study II aimed to investigate the behavior of the heart rate variability (HRV) responses during a discontinuous resistance exercise (RE) protocol and check whether they agree with the blood lactate responses in the determination of anaerobic threshold (AT) in apparently healthy young and elderly. For this proposal, in the same volunteers in the study I, was applied the test of one repetition maximum (1RM) on the leg press 45º and the discontinuous exercise test on the leg press 45 (DET-L), initiated in 10% of 1RM subsequent increments of 10% until exhaustion, and the HR and blood lactate were obtained at rest and during exercise. The AT was determined at approximately 30% of 1RM in both groups and both methods of analysis (blood lactate and HRV), the HRV index decreased with increasing load and stabilized from the load corresponding to AT in both groups, additionally the blood lactate remained practically stable until the load of AT, and increased significantly after this intensity. The EG had lower HRV values in lower loads of AT, and lower values of HR and blood lactate in loads above of AT in relation to the YG. We conclude that the HRV responses to determine the AT are according to blood lactate, and that the increase in load during the discontinuous RE promoted gradual vagal withdrawal followed by sympathetic activation in both young and the elderly, however, these responses are attenuated with the aging process. Finally, the study III, aimed to determine the AT during discontinuous dynamic and resistance exercise protocol by analyzing blood lactate and HRV in healthy older adults, comparing the cardiovascular, metabolic and autonomic variables between these two exercise modalities. We evaluated the elderly group of individuals during the tests: IET-R, DET-C, 1RM and DET-L. The AT within about 30% of maximum intensity in both the DET-C and DET-L by both methods (blood lactate and HRV). There were no differences in HRV variables between the modalities of exercise and a significant increase in systolic blood pressure and blood lactate after AT load in the DET-L. We conclude that HRV was effective in determining the AT and that the parasympathetic modulation responses were similar between dynamic and resistance exercise.

Previous issue date: 2008-02-22 / Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais / The anaerobic threshold (AT) is an important parameter for prescription of physical
exercise in various clinical conditions, because represent the intensity of effort at
which the aerobic metabolism begins to be supplemented by anaerobic metabolism
for the production of energy. In this context, different methods to identify AT have
been described, for example by analysis of blood lactate and the respiratory gas
exchanges, yet such methods require expensive equipment and materials. Low cost
non-invasive techniques such as heart rate variability (HRV) have been proposed to
determine the AT; however, they are most commonly applied in discontinuous
protocols on a cycle ergometer or treadmill. Therefore, the objectives of this study
were to evaluate the behavior of HRV and blood lactate during resistance exercise
(RE) with increasing resistances at a percentage of one repetition maximum (1RM),
and investigate the existence of an aerobic-anaerobic transition point in the
metabolism during lower leg exercise in healthy older adults. Secondarily, our
objective was to evaluate the relationship between different methods, as well as the
degree of concordance between the same. Ten healthy men ranging in age from 60
to 70 years old (mean and SD: 64 ± 4 years, 166 ± 3 cm, 70 ± 7 kg), underwent
medical examination, ergonomic testing and laboratory exams (hemogram,
triglycerides, total and fractional cholesterols, glycemia and uric acid. The protocol
for RE was administered on Leg Press 45° (Pró-Fitness) equipment. The protocol
resistance loads used were determined by 1RM test; the volunteer complete one full
cycle on the equipment at the maximum resistance load that the volunteer could
achieve, and the resistance load increases were calculated from this test value at
rates of 10% of 1RM until a 30% increase and then at increments of 5% until
exhaustion. At each percentage increase of effort, the volunteer performed 4 minutes
of exercise followed a rest interval of 15 minutes. Heart rate was captured throughout
the protocol by a Polar Vantage Heart rate monitor connected to a Polar Advantage
Interface that transmitted the data in real time to a Soyo Notebook computer. The
blood samples were collected before the initial effort and immediately after the end of
each resistance load. Blood lactate and HRV were analyzed at rest conditions with
the volunteer positioned on the equipment and at each percentage of effort. The
indexes utilized for HRV analysis were RMSSD, RMSM, SD1, SD2 and SD1/SD2
ratio. To identify the aerobic-anaerobic transition point, blood lactate concentrations
were used (gold standard) as well as SD1 and RMSSD indexes; and these points
were denominated as lactate threshold (LT), SD1 threshold (SD1T) and RMSSD
threshold (RMSSDT). The level of significance for all statistical tests was set at 5%.
The principal result showed that the mean of the RMSSD, RMSM and SD1 indexes
reduced significantly at 30% 1RM in relation to the rest condition, and blood lactate
presented an exponential increase at 30% 1RM, that was significantly greater in
relation to the rest condition at 35%. There was no significant difference in relation to
absolute and relative values for resistance loads at which the aerobic-anaerobic
transition point was identified (absolute values: LT = 101 ± 32 kg, SD1T = 96 ± 28 kg,
RMSSDT = 97 ± 21 kg; Relative values: LT = 30 ± 6%, SD1T = 29 ± 6%, RMSSDT =
29 ± 5%). Additionally, good concordance and good correlation were found between
LT and RMSSDT (r = 0.78) and between LT and SD1T (0.81). It can be concluded
that the behavior of HRV and blood lactate change markedly at 30% 1RM during
resistance exercise on the Leg Press 45°. It was possible at this percentage to
identify the aerobic-anaerobic metabolism transition point by blood lactate as well as
by HRV in healthy older men.
RMSM, SD1, SD2 e a razão SD1/SD2.

Previous issue date: 2012-05-22 / Financiadora de Estudos e Projetos / Previous animal s research has shown that many protocols with aimed to mimic human exercise has been used. The endurance protocols are studied very often however, some difficulties are encountered to produce resistance exercise protocols. Some animal models of resistance training have been used, as jumping exercise. Among these, stands out the rat model performed on ladder with healthy and unhealthy animals. However, the energy system and acute physiological responses associated with this protocol have not been determined. Thus, the aim of the present study was to evaluate the acute metabolic characteristics and the acute effects on indirect biomarkers of muscular microtrauma of acute resistance exercise performed on ladder. Fifty males Wistar rats were randomly divided into two groups: Exercise (E) and Control (C). The animals of E group climbed a vertical ladder with weights attached to their tails. The session was performed once with 4 9 climbs. The lactate concentration increased at the beginning of training and there was a tendency to stabilize the blood lactate during the exercise session. Serum corticosterone found in E group was significantly higher (59%; p<0.05) when compared to C group. There was no difference between free fatty acids (24% p=0.109), in the liver (8%; p=0.575) and in the gastrocnemius fatty acids content (17%; p=0.219). The glycogen in liver (42%; p<0.05) and soleus (56%; p<0.05) were different between groups. Lactate Dehydrogenase (LDH) and Creatine Kinase (CK) activities were significantly higher (LDH 32%; CK 27%; p<0.05) in the E than in the C group. The results suggest that this protocol is a high intensity exercise able to induce an increase in the lactate concentration at the beginning of exercise. Moreover, there were increases in indirect markers of muscle microtrauma in rats after a single exhaustive session. However, the lactate concentration was low, suggesting that the aerobic metabolism is an important factor during the intervals between the series of climbing.

Análise da existência de máxima fase estável de lactato nos exercícios resistidos leg press 45º e supino reto / Analysis of the existance of a maximal lactate steady state on resistance exercises leg press 45° and bench pressRodrigo Ferro Magosso 26 July 2010 (has links)

Efeitos de diferentes volumes de treinamento resistido sobre as forças muscular e respiratória de idosa / The effects of different volumes of resistance training on muscle strength and respiratory muscle strength in elderly womenAbrahin, Odilon Salim Costa 02 June 2015 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / Introduction: The neuromuscular and respiratory systems are significantly affected during the sedentary aging, but these modifications can be minimized/attenuated by practice of resistance training Purpose: Compare the effects of different volumes of resistance training on the maximum inspiratory pressure (MIP), maximum expiratory pressure (MEP),
functional performance, and muscle strength in elderly women.
Methods: Nineteen elderly women were randomly assigned to a group performing either single sets (1-SET) or three sets (3-SET) of exercises. The sit-to-stand test, MIP, MEP, and muscle strength were assessed before and after 24 training
sessions. Progressive resistance training was performed two times per week for a total of 8 12 repetitions, using the main muscle groups of the upper and lower limbs.
Results: The main results showed that the participants significantly increased their MEP (p<0,05; 1-SET: 34,6%; 3-SET: 35,8%) and MIP (p<0,05; 1-SET: 13,7%; 3-
SET: 11,2%). Both groups also improved in the sit-to-stand test (p<0,05; 1-SET: 10,6%; 3-SET: 17,1%). After 24 training sessions, muscle strength also significantly increased (p<0,0001; 40 80%) in both groups. An intergroup
comparison did not show any statistically significant differences between the groups in any of the parameters analyzed.
Conclusion: Single- and multiple-set resistance training programs increased MIP, MEP, muscle strength, and sit-to-stand test performance in elderly women after 24 sessions of training. In conclusion, our results suggested that elderly women who
are not in the habit of physical activity may start with single-set resistance training programs as a short-term strategy for the maintenance of health.
sentar e levantar (p<0,05; 1-SET: 10.6%; 3-SET: 17.1%).

Respostas cardiovasculares associadas ao intervalo interséries de exercício resistido em mulheres hipertensas sob controle farmacológico / Cardiovascular responses associated with rest interval in the resistance exercise in hypertensive women treated pharmacologicalPereira, Gilene de Jesus 29 January 2016 (has links)
Resistance exercise (RE) is indicated as a complement to aerobic exercise program
to control high blood pressure. However, it is known that during RE may occur peak
pressure and increased risk of cardiovascular events in hypertensive individuals. It
is known that the exercise intensity, exercise volume and muscle fatigue potentiate
these effects. The effects of blood pressure control and the rest time between sets
have not yet been investigated. The objective of this study was to verify, in
hypertensive women undergoing resistance exercise, the effects of blood pressure
control and the rest time between sets (30s, 60s and 90s) the responses of systolic
blood pressure (SBP) and diastolic (DBP), heart rate (HR) and double product (DP).
The study included nineteen hypertensive women, mean age 58.5 ± 5.2 years and
BMI 29.4 ± 4.9 kg / m2, were divided into groups: controlled (n=6), decompensated
(n=8) and untreated (n=5). The subjects were submitted to the 1RM test in the leg
extension and held three training sessions resistance (3x12 to 60% of 1RM knee
extension). Each session was performed with different rest interval (30, 60 and 90
seconds). It used 2-way ANOVA for repeated measures with post test Tukey,
establishing a significance level of p<0.05. In the control group, there was no
significant difference between exercise and rest to PAD, FC and DP in any of the
intervals (p>0.05), while SBP was higher than the rest, when the rest interval was
30 seconds (p=0,0204). In uncontrolled and untreated groups, there was an
increase in all the variables, compared to the rest (p<0.05) independent of the rest
interval. Pressure peaks reached during the exercise, in the controlled group (SBP:
171.3 ± 14 and DBP: 99.5 ± 11mmHg) were similar as compare to uncontrolled
groups (216.1 ± 11 and DBP: 132.5 ± 16 mmHg) and untreated (216.8 ± 21 and
DBP: 133.6 ± 13mmHg). Thus, if the hypertensive framework is not controlled, the
cardiovascular stress significantly increases during the RE and the pharmacological
control is shown to be effective in reducing the effort during the practice of RE.
Therefore, the control condition of the hypertensive frame is more important than
the rest interval for influencing the cardiovascular responses during the RE. Thus,
we can suggest that effective control of the PA, through pharmacological treatment
can reduce the risk of pressure peak during the practice of resistance exercise.
Picos pressóricos atingidos durante o exercício, no grupo
controlado (PAS: 171,3±14 e PAD: 99,5± 11mmHg) foram semelhantes aos picos
atingidos pelos grupos descompensado (216,1±11 e PAD: 132,5±16mmHg) e não
tratado (216,8±21 e PAD: 133,6±13 mmHg).
pressórico durante a prática do exercício resistido.

Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior - CAPES / Introduction: Traditional strength training protocols, despite its proven morphological and neuromuscular benefits, have been questioned about its effects on performance improvement for daily life activities in the elderly, and functional training (TF) may be a better strategy for this purpose. However, there is a lack of research comparing and integrating TF with traditional training methods to better observe the real effects on multisystem adaptive responses. Objective: Analyze comparatively the effects of 12 weeks of functional training and traditional training in physical fitness and quality of movement in sedentary elderly women. Metodology: This is a random clinic essay with the participation of 25 old women divided in two distinct groups: Functional Training (TF: n=13; 64,8 ± 4,6 years; 29,6 ± 5,2 kg/m-²) and Traditional Training (TT: n=12; 66,0 ± 5,5 years; 28,5 ± 5,6 kg/m-²). Senior Fitness Test was used to stablish physical fitness and a dinamometric lumbar complementary test to determine maximal isometric strenght. To evaluate quality of movement it was used the Functional Movement Screen (FMS). Datas were analyzed through ANOVA 2x3 and Sidak post-hoc. Results: Past to 8 weeks, when compared to TT, TF group has promoted statistic and significant improvements in: balance/agility (p=0,03; +7%), lower limb strenght (p=0,03; +18%), upper limb strenght (p = 0,02; +15%), cardiorespiratory capacity (p = 0,02; +8%) and isometric strenght (p = 0,04; +16%). In 12 weeks, TF has presented significative diferences in: balance/agility (p = 0,00; +9%), lower limbs strenght (p = 0,03; +18%), cardiorespiratory capacity (p = 0,01; +7%) and quality of movement (p = 0,02; +16%), when compared to TT. However, flexibility test has not shown differences between groups. And the two groups improved significantly in all variables (p≤0,05) in relation to the initial values. Conclusion: Although both training protocols prove to be efficient in improving physical fitness and movement quality in sedentary elderly women, applied functional training is more effective than traditional training.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of exercise order of combined aerobic and resistance training into the same session on body composition, physical fitness, and arterial stiffness in the elderly. Based on our results, aerobic exercise after resistance training reduced arterial stiffness and a difference of exercise order was observed. We suggest that the exercise order may favorably affect arterial stiffness when combined aerobic exercise and resistance training is performed into the same session. Our findings support combined training for health promotion and have important health implications for the elderly. / 博士(スポーツ健康科学) / Doctor of Philosophy in Health and Sports Science / 同志社大学 / Doshisha University

Acute Pro-inflammatory Immune Response Following Different Resistance Exercise Protocols in Trained MenWells, Adam 01 January 2015 (has links)
The successful regeneration of muscle tissue is dependent upon the infiltration of phagocytic CD14++CD16- monocytes that support the proliferation and differentiation of myogenic precursor cells. Physiologically, the magnitude of the cellular response following resistance exercise is dictated by the level of receptor expression on the plasma membrane of the monocyte, as well as the secretion of their cognate ligands from tissue resident cells. However, it remains unclear whether the innate pro-inflammatory immune response varies with different resistance training protocols, and how it may impact recovery and the muscle remodeling process. Therefore, the purpose of this investigation was to examine temporal changes in the expression of chemotactic and adhesion receptors following an acute bout of high-volume, moderate-intensity (VOL) versus high-intensity, low-volume (HVY) lower-body resistance exercise in experienced, resistance trained men. Changes in receptor expression were assessed in conjunction with plasma concentrations of MCP-1, TNF?, and cortisol. Ten resistance-trained men (90.1 ± 11.3 kg; 176.0 ± 4.9 cm; 24.7 ± 3.4 yrs; 14.1 ± 6.1% body fat) performed each resistance exercise protocol in a random, counterbalanced order. Blood samples were obtained at baseline (BL), immediately (IP), 30 minutes (30P), 1 hour (1H), 2 hours (2H), and 5 hours (5H) post-exercise. Analysis of target receptor expression on CD14++CD16- monocytes was completed at BL, IP, 1H, 2H and 5H time points via flow cytometric analysis. Plasma concentrations of myoglobin, and LDH AUC were significantly greater following HVY compared to VOL (p = 0.003 and p = 0.010 respectively). Changes in plasma TNF?, MCP-1, and expression of CCR2, CD11b, and GCR on CD14++CD16- monocytes were similar following HVY and VOL. When collapsed across groups, TNF? was significantly increased at IP, 30P, 1H and 2H post-exercise (p = 0.001 – 0.004), while MCP-1 was significantly elevated at all post-exercise time points (p = 0.002 – 0.033). CCR2 expression was significantly lower at IP, 1H, 2H and 5H post-exercise (p = 0.020 – 0.040). In contrast, CD11b receptor expression was significantly greater at 1H relative to BL (p = 0.001), while GCR expression was not significantly different from baseline at any time point. As expected, plasma cortisol concentrations were significantly higher following VOL compared to HVY (p = 0.001), although this did not appear to be related to changes in receptor expression. Plasma testosterone concentrations and TNFr1 receptor expression did not appear to be affected by resistance exercise. Our results do not support a role for cortisol in the modulation of CCR2 receptors in vivo, while the degree of muscle damage does not appear to influence plasma concentrations of TNF?, or MCP-1. It is therefore likely that both HVY and VOL protocols constitute an exercise stimulus that is sufficient enough to promote a robust pro-inflammatory response, which is similar in timing and magnitude.
