Appropriations politiques de l'oeuvre de Stéphane Mallarmé : Les cas de Sartre, de Tel Quel, de Badiou et de Rancière / Political Appropriations of the Work of Stéphane Mallarmé : the cases of Sartre, Tel Quel, Badiou and Rancière

Boncardo, Robert Malcolm 20 March 2015 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to study the political appropriations of the work of Stéphane Mallarmé. We will explore how Mallarmé has been made an object of political reflection, as well as examining the conceptual resources used to give his writings a political significance, and the different conjunctures, at once political and intellectual, in which his writings have played a political role. We begin with the works of Sartre and study his dialogue with the poet, which lasted the entirety of his career. We will explain how Mallarmé could be, for Sartre, at once a member of an anti-democratic and nihilistic literary tendency and a proto-existentialist hero. Then we will turn to the early work of Julia Kristeva. By closely studying this reading, we will show why Mallarmé had to be for the Telquellians at once an object of privileged reflection and an object of critique. In our third chapter, we examine the reading of Mallarmé proposed by Alain Badiou, focusing on his first book, Théorie du Sujet. We will also attempt to determine the political signfication of Mallarmé for Badiou after the publication of his masterwork, L'Etre et l'événement. In our fourth chapter, we turn to the writings of Jacques Rancière and offer a critical exegesis of his reading of the poet. We will clarify the political signification that Rancière gives to Mallarmé. We will end by briefly examining the recent intervention into this interprétative history by Quentin Meillassoux.

Approfondir le moment de l'existence : l'homme et sa nature dans le débat entre l'humanisme intégral et l'existentialisme athée / Towards a Deeper Understanding of the « moment de l’existence » : man and his Nature in the debate between integral humanism and atheistic existentialism

Werz, Markus 09 January 2018 (has links)
The French historian of philosophy Frédéric Worms distinguishes several “moments” in the French philosophy of the 20th century. The “moment de l’existence” is one of them. We try to give a deeper account of this moment through the representation of the philosophical debate between Jacques Maritain and Jean-Paul Sartre about human nature. The two philosophers are the major exponents of integral humanism and atheistic existentialism. Our research widens the debate introducing further elements of the philosophical context like the appreciation of the reign of the technology, the ascent of phenomenology and the totalitarian threat. At the deepest of the “moment de l’existence” we find an existential quest for human nature in spite of its technological, philosophical and political relativisation. We place the philosophy of Jacques Maritain in the centre of our research. In our opinion it seems quite impossible to gain a deeper understanding of the “moment de l’existence” without a look at the major philosophical contribution of this Christian thinker. Thus, our research fills a gap in the history of 20th century philosophy.

Frihetens dialektik : En studie av politisk och existentiell frihet / Dialectic of Freedom : A study on political and existential freedom

Hjort, Alice January 2020 (has links)
This is a conceptual historical study on the dialectic meaning of the concept of freedom. The purpose of this study is to examine John Stuart Mill’s and Jean-Paul Sartre’s usage of the concept of freedom, and to examine its dialectical meaning. This is done by examining concepts such as the nature of man, moral philosophy, political thinking and the meaning and usage of the concept of freedom itself. Using the method of conceptual history and the theoretical framework of Hegelian dialectics, I have studied Mill’sOn Liberty and Sartre’s Existentialism is a Humanism. In my research, I have found that the two thinkers share some similarities in what they mean by freedom, but I have also found that there are striking differences. These differences are most notable in how Mill discusses freedom primarily in political and societal terms, whereas Sartre discusses freedom as being the natural human condition and in what ways it is linked to action and morals. I also note how Mill’s thinking is centered around man as an individual, whereas Sartre’s thinking is centered around man as a subject. Finally, I discuss the importance of liberal hegemony in the expected meaning of the term freedom.

Bouchard, Simon 19 April 2021 (has links)

Souza, Márcio Júnior de January 2012 (has links)
The present study intends to inquire the intertextual relations – often pointed, though almost never deepened by our literary criticism – among the existentialist philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre and the Brazilian novelist Carlos Heitor Cony. In its whole, the study is based upon two levels: in the first one, the thematic and occasionally formal similitudes in the fictional prose of both authors are criterioulsy shown, taking as objects their respective first novels: The Nausea and The Womb. In the second level, which is the most relevant among my purposes at this moment, there is an emphasis on the differences, mainly stylistic, of Cony’s literature in relation to the one by the French philosopher. Therefore, in a larger sense, this study is about a broad reflection regarding the anthropophagical appropriation in the oswaldian line of some of the typical sartrean existentialistic themes, and its adaptation through a style that denotes individual traces whose characteristics are acid irony, sarcastic sense of humor and some lyricism by Cony – from which flows an unexpected tropical and loose philosophical vision (in the carioca style) of the sartrean existentialism. Within the formal limits of this kind of research, many other philosophical and literary texts from these scholars are also referred to, planned as a transversal cut which intends to be able of elucidating as much as possible from their work.

Quem matou o autor foi o crítico: a resenha literária em Critique e Les Temps Modernes / Who killed the author was the critic: analysis of Critique and Les Temps Modernes literary review

Coelho, Isabel Lopes 22 June 2009 (has links)
Analysis of French culture magazines Critique and Les Temps Modernes, through the reviews on the authors Henry Miller and Charles Baudelaire. The text comments the appearance of the publications and its influences (Georges Batailles`s poetics and Jean-Paul Sartre`s philosophy). It presents the intellectual field of the magazines and publishing houses in the French post-war period (1945-46). Le Moment marxiste de la phénoménologie française (Sartre, Merleau-Ponty, Tran Duc Thao) / The Marxist moment of French phenomenology (Sartre, Merleau-Ponty, Tran Duc Thao)

Feron, Alexandre 09 December 2017 (has links)
Between the end of the Second World War and the beginning of the 1960s, the chief representatives of the phenomenological school in France, Jean-Paul Sartre, Maurice Merleau-Ponty and Tran Duc Thao, not only considered that they had to confront Marxism in their works : they deemed the endeavour to combine Marxism with phenomenology one of the major tasks of philosophy in the modern world. The object of our research is to understand the specificity of the philosophical work each performed on these two apparently incompatible schools of thought, in order to make their synthesis possible. Our work traces the way in which the initial project of 1944 was progressively questioned and reworked in the wake of political and historical change, philosophical debates and the development of human sciences. Thus we hope to bring to light the underlying stakes and conceptual innovations of what remains one of the most fertile and original moments in contemporary French philosophy.
