Seberozvoj učitele jako základní předpoklad připravenosti na profesi / Self-development of teachers as a basic premise of preparedness for a professionMurgašová, Marcela January 2013 (has links)
This thesis follows the bachelor thesis ,,Gestalt therapy and its use in education" and deals with self-development of teachers as a basic premise for preparedness for the profession. It describes very complicated concept self-development of teacher itself, then it discusses the issues of teaching quality and professionalism, where the thesis again emphasizes self-development as a way of transition from semiprofession to profession. It contemplates the necessity of self-development due to the rapid changes in today's society and thus increasing demands on the personality of the teacher. This thesis is based on the belief in the importance of self-development of teachers mainly in social and personal qualities, it asks whether these qualitites are sufficiently developed in the pregraduate teacher's education and if the offer of further education is sufficient for today's teachers. A short chapter is devoted to the burnout syndrom. Empirical probe aims to validate the conclusions and research of the theoretical part. The chosen method for the probe is questionnaire for primary school teachers. There is a list of centers that provide teacher training in the end of the thesis.

Analyses of experiences of vicarious traumatisation in short-term insurance claims workersLudick, Marne 05 September 2013 (has links)
Thesis (Ph.D.(Psychology))--University of the Witwatersrand, Faculty of Humanities, 2013. / The research entailed a comprehensive study of vicarious trauma in short-term insurance claims
workers, compared to trauma counsellors and a control group of holiday booking consultants. A
well-known, comprehensive model of compassion fatigue/secondary traumatic stress, developed for
therapists formed the basis of the study. The research attempted to determine whether this model
can be applied more widely to include administrative populations exposed to traumatised clients on
a regular basis. To this end, the model was deconstructed into its eleven constituent parts and each
element was investigated in addition to other variables of interest to the study. This was done to
determine the importance and applicability of each model element and other selected variables to
the administrative context.
A mixed methods approach was utilised, which combined quantitative and qualitative data. The
results yielded by the study were collectively utilised to construct an etic and an emic voice from
the research. At the same time, effects from vicarious trauma were considered from an overarching
bio-psychosocial stance, systematically gauging effects on various levels of functioning. Scores
from quantitative measures on secondary traumatic stress, negative cognitive schemas, empathy,
social support and compassion satisfaction were statistically analysed, which revealed significant
differences between the worker groups. Widely accepted relationships between the study variables
were tested and found to hold true within and across groups. Regression analysis determined the
roles of empathy, social support and compassion satisfaction in vicarious trauma, as measured by
secondary traumatic stress and negative cognitive schemas. In addition, constructivist selfdevelopment
theory was employed to interpret the negative cognitive effects from vicarious
traumatisation.
Qualitative data were utilised to further elucidate the role and nature of vicarious trauma in each of
the worker groups. The themes of exposure to client suffering, detachment, level of empathic
engagement, personal trauma history and difficult life demands were unearthed from the qualitative
data, which illuminated the importance and role of each of these elements to claims workers. Other
areas of interest, being utilisation of sick-leave as a means to cope, work-related illness, attitudes
towards professional counselling, feelings evoked by traumatised clients, and the language utilised
by workers in response to client traumata were investigated. Further effects on participants as well
iv
as effects that reach beyond the person were identified and examined. Effects on the social and
work contexts were also elucidated.
Finally, interesting themes that emerged spontaneously from the data were considered. The
consideration of the various model elements and other areas of interest systematically revealed that
administrative workers dealing with traumatised clients are also affected by the process of vicarious
trauma. Furthermore, the model was found to be largely suitable to the context of claims workers.
However, the model was expanded to augment its usability within the more general administrative
domain. Finally, the overarching aim was to enrich, contextualise and elaborate on the experiences
of claims workers within their unique work context, to facilitate insight and a deeper understanding
of vicarious trauma in more administrative populations that have largely been overlooked in
research.

夜裡的魔境魔鏡:青少年夜晚家外活動的自我形塑歷程探究 / Examine the course of self-development for adolescents involving in evening activities in the community李筱涵, Lee, Hsiao Han Unknown Date (has links)
Using hermeneutic phenomenology, this study examined evening activities of three adolescents in the community. I conducted in-depth interviews, asking the participants to describe their evening activities, the meaning of these activities, and the role of self in these activities. I analyzed the transcripts using thematic analysis and presented their course of self-development involving in these varying evening activities in the community.
The evening stories of these three participants showed that three were no stereotypical images of youth. Every youths had their own personal traits and preferences. And, their individual life situations and people interaction shaped who they have become and how they see themselves. Therefore, the meaning of self exists in every human action with other individuals and in the environment. So, the types of evening activities youths participated in showed the characteristics of the environment they lived in and showed their individual unique characteristics. Even though there were some activities seemingly identical, there were hidden meanings behind them. These study showed that ever youth has their own unique story. Like me and the participants, we together had four evening stories to tell. So if there were one thousand and one youths, there would be one thousand and one stories to tell.
At the end, suggestions and implications were discussed about family, school, and youth-related policies and youth outreach work.

Immigrant(s') children are the purveyors of a family tongue and culture which differ from that of the host country and its education system, when in fact, family culture and the mother-tongue play a major role in harmonious child development and in his/her integration into society. School, which should aim at both enabling the child to establish himself/herself as a subject and finding his/her place in society, conveys a different culture, which is regarded as legitimate. What about the tongues and cultures of immigrant children? Until the 1970s, nothing specific was schemed for immigrant school children. They had to merge with the rest. Family reunification policies brought along the taking into account of these children. Two systems were introduced : childcare facilities for non-francophone children and courses in the culture and language of their country of origin. Yet, if such policies have been a first step towards the taking into account of immigrant children within education systems, they've remained within a pattern of simultaneous assimilation and differentiation. Beyond what these policies intended, the observations made in the « reception and integration » classes and language and cultural courses of Côte d'Or, along with the interviews and surveys carried out with the teachers of the county, have pointed out different practical and human problems in their very functioning. Moreover, the schooling years play an important part in the building up of children and what is taught will leave its mark for long. Thus, the importance given to overseas cultures as well as the image of the other conveyed during that time, particularly through books, constitute the mirror of the way to see the other in the host society on the one hand, and will bear long-time consequences on tomorrow's society on the other hand. The western ethnocentrism which characterizes the teaching of History and Literature leads to the stigmatization of the Other, through the tongues and cultures transmitted to students.

Breaking barriers : women in transition : an investigation into the new emerging social sub-group of professional Muslim women in Sierra LeoneTaqi, Fatmatta B. January 2010 (has links)
Sierra Leone is in transition to peace and development, from a previous decade long civil war. Educated Muslim women appear to have a great deal of expression, interest and passion to offer the process. The study investigates the new emerging social sub group of professional Muslim women in Sierra Leone society and explores their views and experiences of identifying and attempting to overcome the burdens of patriarchy, oppression and exploitation perpetrated by religious, social and cultural beliefs. The research and thesis consider in what ways these women and their views ‘fit’ in or challenge society and their perceptions of the potential they have as models to impact on the lives of Sierra Leonean Muslim women nationwide. Using feminist influenced research practices in order to focus on the stories and voices of these women, the study contributes to the growth of knowledge related to the emergent changing roles and perceptions of Muslim women in present day Sierra Leone. This qualitative and interdisciplinary research develops a critical focus and deliberately combines literary sources in an informative context, with feminist research methods of interviews and focus groups on issues of gender equality and empowerment. Through the interviews and focus group discussions conducted, the research portrays the perceptions of the emerging social sub group of professional Muslim women, a cross section of grass-root Muslim women and a selection of male Muslims regarding empowerment, knowledge, culture, independence and oppression. These are also illustrated as the ways the participants embrace the concept of feminism and adapt it by drawing on their Sierra Leonean, Islamic, cultural and social traditions. The research examines the various ideologies that stifle the growth of Sierra Leonean Muslim women from their perspective and it analyses the strategies used by the professional women to tackle the oppressive and repressive customs and stand up against patriarchy. It was discovered through the findings that the research gives an insight into the determination and the conviction of professional Muslim women in advocating for social change and in making their voices heard. As an outcome, it is evidenced that this emerging social sub group of Muslim women appear to be inspiring self-development moves and changes not only among the uneducated grass-root majority, but in the fold of their Muslim men-folk, resulting in a visible impact of self development and self empowerment among Sierra Leonean Muslim women.
