Circuitos e práticas religiosas nas trajetórias de vida de adultos em situação de rua na cidade de São Paulo / Circuits and religious practices in life trajectories of adult homeless people in city of São Paulo

Galvani, Debora 28 April 2015 (has links)
From the study of single life pathways, this research aimed to understand the main dimensions and implications of homeless adults in religious circuits for the construction of interdependence networks. It is a research based on the principles of ethnography, with a field work developed through dialogue and participation, and through interviews focused on life history. So, this study centers in the heterogeneity of social dissociation forms and the religion-based reconfigurations of ways of life paths in the streets and public spaces of the city of São Paulo. Within this heterogeneity, the target are groups and individuals who provided reference for the discussion of endogenous/internal (and self-organization) forms to overcome this condition, through movements opposing disaffiliation and social disqualification. The starting point was stories of people who shared the experience of Ponto de Encontro e Cultura/Metuia-USP (Metuia-USP Gathering and Cultural Point). The analysis was performed in two perspectives: on the one hand, the reconstitution of the interlocutors life history, with the main objective of showing their interdependence networks, focusing on religious participation circuits that transcend the assistance circuits, discussing the peculiarities of the process of construction/reconstruction of identities that re-signify the historicity and experience of homelessness; on the other hand, different rationalities that coexist in the identified religious circuits, or narratives that contribute to analysis and explanations for the homeless who reject secularized conception of reality as the only way to acquire knowledge and life orientation. The interlocutors trajectories allowed to elucidate movements not easily captured by public policy and services, and questioned notions such as family, technical hierarchy and needs policy for attention and care of the homeless. Religion can provide a meaningful and creative language field for the development of life opportunities and choice in which to live in the present with the quality of desire can be as urgent as feeding the body. This study intendeds to contribute to the construction of subsidies in the formulation of actions and life projects of social occupational therapy attention, which can move between the singular and the collective, and to guide the formulation of intervention methodologies that incorporate the cultural expressions of their target audience, as well as provide support to strengthen the notion of culture and cultural diversity as a right incorporated into the progress in implementing the Política Nacional para a População de Rua (National Policy for Homeless People), the implementation of the Sistema Único da Assistência Social (Universal System of Social Assistance) in Brazil, and the Plano Nacional de Cultura (National Culture Plan), recognizing the regional peculiarities and also the singularities of its users, as a way to review notions such as family and realize new ways of continuous connection and reconnection

Exploring the mechanisms for challenging racial discrimination in relation to French political culture : a race critical approach

Salmi, Katya January 2012 (has links)
This thesis questions the effectiveness of anti-racial discrimination mechanisms in France, particularly in relation to the national political culture. Considering the overall import of republican ideology in France, which emphasizes values of universalism, colour-blindness, and laïcité, there are significant implications for how institutional, legal and civil society actors have traditionally approached issues of racism in France. From primary data, gathered through fieldwork in France (consisting of a series of semi-structured interviews with key antiracist and anti-racial discrimination actors), this thesis highlights the ways in which the political culture impacts the anti-racial discrimination agenda. By taking into account the various levels of antiracism in France, this thesis constitutes a unique, holistic and race critical analysis whereby legal, civil society, institutional and non-conventional mechanisms are considered in conjunction with each other, instead of separately. Using “race” as an analytical tool for understanding the French context, this thesis offers a critical re-reading of French history, linking an ethnicized and racialized formation of national identity throughout key historical moments to contemporary forms of racism. This research thus argues that certain antiracist approaches based on republican ideology result in a limited understanding of racialized processes, which appears to constrain actors from producing effective mechanisms for challenging racism and racial discrimination.

This study contributes to the Research Project of the Ministry of Health: National Observatory of Care Production in different approaches in the view of the implementation process of the Thematic Networks of Health Care in the Unified Federal Health System: “Evaluates who asks, who does and who uses” (RAC). It has as its theme the health education groups in the Family Health Strategy units. The general objective is to analyze the diverse processes of constitution of grouping in the health education groups in basic units. As specific objectives the Identification of the tools used in the constitution of health education groups and report the management of group strategies present in the groups studied. The methodology employed occurred in two ways: an exploratory - bringing evidence of studies on the proposed theme and a descriptive - using Research Interference and the cartographic movement. This second obtained as a scenario a basic health unit in the city of Rio de Janeiro. The data was collected through observation of participants, construction of a field diary and narratives of three groups of health education in a basic unit in the neighborhood of Rocinha, in Rio de Janeiro city. As results, it could be pointed that health care users and professionals identified groups as a fundamental instrument of collective practice. Among some collections that left impression – “what is in the skin”, the place where the groups are formed is emphasized by the author. the group as the place of creation of the living network and experiment with new ways of living; the use of light technologies and the rationality of praxis; the way the dialogues are woven and how becoming a part of the group is done. Such impressions are those that promote the grouping. We can affirm that the elements that make up the grouping are the fuel to promote life due to the devices employed in the construction of processes of belonging. The group as a resource of care in Primary Care appears as an instrument to be better understood and explored as it presents itself as a trigger device for care in the network and for care of itself

The Survivors: Roma University Students In Turkey

Diler, Melike 01 December 2008 (has links) (PDF)
ABSTRACT THE SURVIVORS: ROMA UNIVERSITY STUDENTS IN TURKEY Diler, Melike M.Sc., Department of Sociology Supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. AySe G&uuml / nd&uuml / z HoSg&ouml / r December 2008, 147 pages This study has two aims regarding the Roma university students in Turkey. First, it attempts to discover the characteristics of their life courses in order to identify the success factors paving the way for their participation in higher education, specifically when the low education level of the Roma people, including even their own families, is concerned. Therefore, their socio-economic environment, early childhood years and school experiences are focused and analyzed respectively to expose the actors and processes making their life stories appear as success stories. Second, it aims to expose whether there are differences between the ones involved in the Roma Rights Movement and the ones not involved in terms of their ethnic identity status. That is, most of the better-off Roma, previously, preferred hiding their ethnic identity not to be excluded from participation in social, economic and political spheres. However, the Roma university students participating in the Roma Rights Movement refuse to hide their identity as they do not want to be assimilated, but integrated into the majority society. That point has a first-rate importance, as the low educational level of the Roma people, especially that of the Roma children, are closely associated with the lack of positive role models showing them how and what education pays off. On the basis of the conclusions drawn from the data analysis collected through in-depth interviews, it is exposed that these Roma youngsters demonstrate high levels of agency for their own social inclusion through education. Although they are all supported by their families / most of their Roma school peers dropped out of either primary or high school due to poverty and discriminative attitudes of their teachers and school administrators. The stigma of inferiority attached to the Roma is so strong that the survivors, who manage to attend the high school, hide their ethnic identity from this point onwards. Therefore, the demand of the Roma university students, participating in Roma Rights Movement, for integration into the majority society appears as an exceptional case among the well-educated Roma, but making them the pioneers of a new Roma identity in Turkey: Roma intelligentsia.

A social group work programme with adolescent orphans in foster care affected by HIV and AIDS : North West Province / van der Westhuizen J.E.

Van der Westhuizen, Julita Elizabeth January 2011 (has links)
The objective of this study is to explore the impact of a social group work programme in the lives of adolescent orphans in foster care in the North–West province who are also affected by HIV and AIDS, and to enhance their social functioning. Keywords: Adolescent, foster care, foster parent, social work, social group work, empower, family, orphan, HIV and AIDS There are a growing number of children in need of care in South Africa who are placed with foster parents. The biggest reason for foster placement is due to the rising mortality rate of biological parents due to HIV and AIDS. Section A refers to the problem statement, research objectives, research procedures and research methodology. The limitations of the research are also investigated and the definitions of key words. The research was conducted in two phases. The needs assessment was conducted in phase one and the planning, implementation, and evaluation of the social group work programme in phase two. The problem statement in section A is based upon the following: It was found that insufficient research is being conducted on the problems and circumstances of adolescent orphans in South Africa. It is evident that the physical and emotional needs of adolescent orphans are not being fulfilled. The HIV and AIDS pandemic have a negative effect on the quality of daily life for orphans under foster care. The problem statement gave rise to five research aims. The overarching research design conformed to the Development and Utilization Research model. The model was divided into five phases that guided the research. The single–system design was used to gather quantitative and qualitative data. A literature study was conducted around the themes of foster care, foster parents, social group work, and circumstances of the foster care situation. Section B consists of the four articles that form the report on the research outcomes Each article is dealt with as a self–contained unit focusing on specific research objectives that were achieved via specific research methods. These methods were employed to collect the necessary data for the design and evaluation of the social group work programme. Article 1: The circumstances and needs of the adolescent orphan in foster care. The aim of this article is to identify the circumstances and needs through a self–designed and structured schedule. Thirty adolescent orphans in foster care from the researcher's case load were identified to take part in the research. Twenty adolescent orphans were selected by means of accidental sampling. Ten (N = 10) were selected for the experimental group and ten (N = 10) were selected for the control group. The results indicated the problems and needs experienced by adolescent orphans. These could be used for discussion during a social group work programme designed to provide knowledge, teach skills, and improve the social functioning of the group. Article 2: The role of the social worker during service delivery to adolescent orphans in foster care. The nature and extent of foster care in the North–West province was investigated by means of the completion of questionnaires. The role of the social worker regarding services to adolescent orphans in foster care was also investigated. A self–structured questionnaire was used for data collection purposes and 85 questionnaires were sent to social workers in the North–West province. The results show the state of existing programmes and the opinions of social workers on topics that could be included in a social group work programme. The data was used in Article 2. Article 3: A social work intervention programme for adolescent orphans in foster care. The programme was developed according to the data received from the 30 (N=30) adolescent orphans in foster care and the 85 (N=85) social workers in the North–West province. The programme was presented to 30 (N=30) adolescent orphans in foster care. Social group work was used as method to present the programme. The group gained knowledge and received skills training, both of which served to enhance their social functioning. Article 4: The evaluation of a social group work programme for adolescent orphans in foster care The purpose of this article is to evaluate the social group work programme. Three standardized measuring instruments were used. The Generalized Contentment Scale, the Index of Family Relations, and the Personal Self–esteem Profile were used. These instruments were used three times: once before intervention, once during intervention and once after intervention. The control group 10 (N=10) also completed the questionnaire three times but did not attend the social group. A self–developed questionnaire was completed before and after each session. A self–developed evaluation was completed after the final session to assess the effectiveness of the programme. Section C - Summary, conclusions and recommendations. Section D - contains the appendices with the results of the three standardized measuring instruments that were used for data collection. Ar Lietuvos teisinėje sistemoje įtvirtintas išplėstinis genocido sudėties apibrėžimas nepažeidžia principo nullum crimen sine lege? / Wether the extended genocide structure established in Lithuanian legal system does not violate principle nullum crimen sine lege?

Dainelytė, Simona 14 June 2014 (has links)
[toliau žr. visą tekstą] / Genocide is described as one of the most severe crimes of the international law. After the Second World War international community decided to codify international law and the general principles of the law recognized by civilized nations. The United Nations enacted The Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide. The convention stated that genocide crime is described as acts against national, ethnic, racial or religious group. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, many countries including Lithuania got back their independence. Lithuania’s legislators incorporated the norms of the Genocide convention into the state’s legal system. Besides these norms legislators also included social and political groups into the definition of genocide crime. It was done in order to punish persons, who were responsible for the criminal offense against Lithuania’s citizen during soviet occupation. The decision that states legislators made extended the definition of genocide crime established in international law, which defines genocide as the acts against national, ethnic, racial or religious group, but not against social or political group. Under international principle nullum crimen sine lege a person should not face criminal punishment except for an act that was criminalized by law before he performed the act. In this work it is aimed to determine whether the extended genocide structure established in Lithuanian legal system does not violate principle nullum... [to full text]
