Consuming Brazil: Afro Brazilian Religion as a Base for Actor TrainingRoberts, Corey Justin 01 January 2006 (has links)
Actor training, like the theatre in Brazil, has historically been a middle and upper class pursuit that followed European models, namely Stanislavski's system. Yet within Brazil there is a wealth of diverse cultures that are inherently theatrical and well suited for application in actor training. In this study I explore one such culture, the Afro Brazilian religion Umbanda. First, I examine its formation to illuminate how the religion itself performed (or served as a site for cultural interaction) throughout history. Then, I explore the practice of the religion both apart from and in relation to the theatre and Stanislavski's system. Using the archetypes of Umbanda as a base, I formulate a system of actor training that both allows access to a larger demographic of Brazilians, and also encourages cultural dialogue as an explicit part of acting process. I frame this study with two metaphors: anthropophagy, the notion of cannibalizing or consuming one culture by another; and, more specifically, the digestive tract. The anthropophagy movement in Brazil framed the country's thought throughout much of the 20th century; the digestive tract is a closer examination of the consuming process that epitomizes this system of actor training.

Úvod do sophia-analýzy / Introduction to sophia-analysisMartinová, Vanessa January 2011 (has links)
This thesis is an introduction to sophia-analysis and deals with the concepts and methods it offers the individual for the purpose of personal growth. The theoretical part of the thesis is devoted to defining the sophia-analytical psychotherapeutic school. It presents the conceptual references of sophia-analysis, its metapsychology and works through its theoretical underpinnings and specific anthropological concepts. It further describes the applied therapeutic forms as well as presents the organization and specifics of its training system. It concludes with a brief history of sophia- analysis and a short biography of its founder. The applied section of the thesis deals with the identification, classification and selection of the most distinctive psychotherapeutic processes found in 21 individual sessions of sophia-analytical therapy, using "psychotherapy process Q-test" methodology. The applied section also describes in detail the methodology used and the results of its application to sophia-analytical material. The applied methodology serves two purposes. First, it provides a picture of sophia-analytical practice from the point of view of psychotherapeutic process in the context of actual sophia-analytical sessions and so complements the introduction of this psychotherapeutic branch in the...

Kierkegaardova filozofie existence / Kierkegaard's philosophy of existenceŠimeček, Andrej January 2013 (has links)
This work takes as its central issue the existential movement as it appears in the philosophy of Soren Kierkegaard. There appears to be relatively little secondary literature on this topic, so it is a very fruitful area to explore. The texts explored include Kierkegaard's 'psychological' books, in particular Concept of Anxiety and Sickness unto Death. These provide our work with the crucial concepts of innocence, guilt, despair, anxiety, existence and spirit. From the more traditional philosophical works, Philosophical Fragments, Concluding Unscientific Postscript to Philosophical Fragments and Johannes Climacus have been utilised. These texts inform the work mostly on the meaning of movement, doubt, contradiction and absolute paradox. From the more lyrical works, this work is informed by Fear and Trembling and Repetition. Inquiry into these texts combined will provide a picture of existential movement as it is presented by Kierkegaard. This work attempts to capture the 'becoming subjective' which is so central to Kierkegaard's thought, through the reconstruction of the existential stages. It is also the purpose of this work (in the process) to treat areas of Kierkegaard's thought that are usually left untreated. The latter are for example, the problematic of the leap of sin, the unclear status of the...

Why would a relatively normal eighteen year-old boy from New Orleans decide to dedicate his life to God as a Jesuit priest at the tail-end of the twentieth century? What obstacles would he meet along the way? What would sustain him in religious life? Why would he leave after seven years? Can one be sexually and emotionally healthy as a celibate? Is celibacy different for homosexuals than it is for heterosexuals? What is essential in the spiritual life?

Nikos Kazantzaki et la culture française / Nikos Kazantzaki and the French cultureGeorgiadou, Eleni 31 January 2014 (has links)
This thesis proposes a bibliographic and literary journey in the life and work of Nikos Kazantzaki (1883-1957), his relation to the French language and culture, their influence on his vision of the world and his creation. It is a research on the elements of French culture in the work of Nikos Kazantzaki and more specifically in the two novels written directly in French, Toda-Raba and The Rock Garden. Kazantzaki, a contemporary Ulysses, travels in the world with amazement, discovering the richness of the human reality, acting instead of being acted by it! An insatiable worker of the spirit, he does not stop proclaiming the beautiful universal virtues: Freedom, Equality, Brotherhood, and Human Dignity! His essential concern: to transform the flesh into spirit; to transmit the seed of his writings, that rich inheritance of love, to the posterity, leaving nothing to Charon, except a few bones! He weaves his cocoon of poetry, similar to a silk worm, and leaves the seed of its immortal creation as a link between past and future. The joy of learning, the passion for languages, beauty, art, grace and tenderness, join in that multicultural jewel , Kazantzaki’s work, to dance on the rhythm and breath of life! Bergson is the central figure of the French culture in Kazantzaki’s creation. His theories on real duration, on matter and spirit, on creative evolution and the élan vital, on language and art as a means of communication between nature and god, a god who changes and is reinvented in the human fables, a god who waits for men in order to save them, to create life together with them, will be the river of French culture crossing Kazantzaki’s work and leading him to freedom, to God!

L'Église à l'épreuve du Pentecôtisme : une expérience religieuse à l'île de la Réunion / Pentecostalism puts the church to the test : a religious experience in Reunion IslandAubourg, Valérie 25 March 2011 (has links)
In Reunion Island, pentecostal and charismatic movements have been developing for forty years and their emotional aspect plays a pivotal role in their power of attraction. Encouraging tangible evidence of God’s actions at the expense of dogmas, they contribute to the imprecision of beliefs and the dispersion of religious itineraries, lead to an increase in individualism and encourage a tendency to scission in the Church. Because of all this, they put the church to the test. Nevertheless, an in-depth analysis of these movements in Creole society leads us to question the erosion of institutions, traditions and mediations it relies on. Organising a field survey and conducting interviews has made it possible to highlight several factors which seem to inspire religious experience of an emotional kind.- First, the socio-historical situation of the island, and the religious dynamics that have contributed to the formation of competing pentecostal and charismatic groups which are too different to be treated as part of the same environment.- Then, the groups joined by the faithful, which codify their practices and create their religious « virtuosity »- Finally time, because of which individuals itineraries show different phases of varying intensity. So, religious experience is far from being synonymous exclusively with excitement, immediacy and malleability. Control, socialization and transmission are also important part of it. This study conducted in Reunion Island is at the very heart of this dialectic.

Previous issue date: 2016-03-29 / The objective of this study t is to analyze the global discourse of the social entrepreneurship scene. Therefore, we use the methodology of critical discourse analysis (FAIRCLOUGH, 2001) and (VAN DIJK, 2003) on social entrepreneurs life narratives to understand their social role in contemporary society. The object is the narratives present in digital media, which constitute the image of social entrepreneurs worldwide institutions: Ashoka, Skoll Foundation and Schwab. These organizations articulate new possible worlds (LAZZARATO, 2006) and represent in an emblematic way the new spirit of capitalism (BOLTANSKI and CHIAPELLO, 2009). Moreover, attribute legitimacy to social entrepreneurs, who are seen as modern Olympians, true culture models (MORIN, 2011). The social entrepreneur, in summary, joins the competence as a regular entrepreneur with dedication to work for the "common good". The pragmatism of the entrepreneurial figure combines heroic characteristics, which are the symbolic power (BOURDIEU, 2005). This process occurs through a complex network of production, circulation and consumption of these globalized symbolic heroic narratives. From the spread of the phenomenon of social entrepreneurship, we seek to understand their origin, their rhetoric constitution and how the social and cultural aspects are linked to it, as the process of celebritization (TORRES, 2014) the figure of the social entrepreneur.

Previous issue date: 2016-03-14 / This research aims to discuss the social entrepreneurship involved the in the crowdfunding platforms, researched from its communicational aspect. The social entrepreneurship configures itself as the new spirit of capitalism (BOLTANSKI; CHIAPELLO, 2009) adjusting its projects within the commodity aesthetics (HAUG, 1997) to convince the public to consume/investment in its cause. We consider the crowdfunding platforms as a discursive market (FAIRCLOUGH, 2001), whose commodities are the projects launched for funding purposes, constituting its forms of symbolic consumption. In that way, we pursue to comprehend the meanings of discursive strategies of social entrepreneurship on these platforms. The research methodology is based on the Critical Analysis of Discourse of Fairclough (idem).
