A dialogue with the memories of emigration and immigration indicated the political, economical and social situation of the Azores in the period preceding those movements and gave away the reasons to why they took place. What was recovered indicates that the Holy Spirit Feast had an important catalyst role in the formation of immigrant communities established at Vila Carrão. The symbols and meanings of this feast are perceived to this day as one of the most important elements of the Azorean s immaterial culture, and have been shared by generations to the present time. This group s approach was to investigate an assembling of immigrants from their departure in the Azores, including means of transportations, relationships established prior and during the journey in terms of labor and family and finally the living conditions found in the booming city that was Sao Paulo. The dichotomy of supply versus demand and the search for people to work the factories, industries and trade, which promoted the process, is also analyzed here. The experiences in the city that welcomed them and several other elements coalesced help translate their life s trajectories, as they organized themselves in the district, how they were dispersed in Brazil and around the world, and especially how was the initiative of reestablishing ties with countrymen and building the House of the Azores, which led to the reinvention of traditions and the reformulation of the Holy Spirit Feast. By unveiling these social experiments, the reinterpretations translated a new profane-religious cultural tradition in a diverse environment that is the metropolis formed by a true mosaic of cultures / Esta investigação aborda as trajetórias dos imigrantes açorianos na cidade de São Paulo no período de 1950 a 1960, tentando recuperar processos de formação, transformação e ressignificação das representações culturais.

Life in the Spirit and social commitment in St John Chrysostom: analysis of the homilies from the Letter to the Romans, chapter eight

The experience that takes place within the hearts and that makes the one who has been baptized desire intimacy with God, should be manifested by a new manner of living and behaving in society. Moved by divine charity, the Christian cannot retreat into an isolated, intimist experience. According to St John Chrysostom, the possibility of a new world on the Earth is real, by means of the works of the Spirit. This new world, however, is temporal and transient, the firstfruits of the eternal Kingdom prepared by Christ for those who live such new life. Strugling for a better and fairer polis on the Earth will always be necessary, with the awareness that it is just the firstfruits of that eternal polis (cf. Phil 3, 20) for which we have been saved / A Vida no Espírito possui implicações que vão para além de uma experiência subjetiva da fé.

It is known in the city as São Domingos Spirit Site, because it is in São Domingos district. We will deal with the tradition and innovation concepts dialectically. As far as it is concerned it is the oldest temple practicing Umbanda in the city and juridically constituted. On the other hand, it is a model to the most temples constituted afterwards becoming this way, a reference point in the African religion historical path in the city. Through this project we intend to show the adaptations occurred in the rituals, specifically in the initial processes, coming from the syncretism with the Catholic religion and its influences in the São Domingos Spirit Site, since its foundation until present days. The qualitative approach is present in this analysis made of interviews which contain the temples members oral testimonies, with the use of a tape recorder, documental survey made in public and private libraries, observation in loco, especially the rituals description and the use of iconography; in this case the use of photos as a data source. This way, from the data obtained in the Spirit Site it was possible to come to the following conclusions: The details of some rituals running the risk of disappearance due to a syncretic natural process, the importance of having the possession of the land, taking into account that this is one of the essential items for the perpetuation of the Spirit Site, the constant game between tradition and innovation and the Exu valorization, as a spiritual entity, creating links of friendship between divinity and believers / O presente trabalho visa levantar os motivos da permanência, por mais de sessenta anos, da Tenda Espírita Pai João, conhecida, na cidade de Americana-SP, como Terreiro do São Domingos, por situar-se no Bairro São Domingos, na mesma cidade, para tanto trabalharemos dialeticamente com os conceitos de tradição e de inovação.

The factory of the homo enterprenans. Sociology of an educational policy at the borders of the academic world and the economic world

Chambard, Olivia 30 June 2017 (has links)
This thesis analyzes the dissemination of training modules on « entrepreneurship » or « entrepreneurial spirit » to the students of the « grandes écoles » and universities in France. Located at the intersection of political science, sociology of education and economic sociology, this research traces the genesis of a public problem, policy-making surrounding it and its translation into a curriculum to produce specific economic behaviors.Based on a field survey combining qualitative methods (interviews, participatory observations, archival research) and quantitative methods (questionnaires), this thesis demonstrates how certain areas of higher education are transformed by the appropriation of this new educational mission, and how the project of entrepreneurship education is in turn transformed by its school and academic formatting. This thesis then highlights that if the various uses of entrepreneurship in higher education have made its acclimatization in this space possible, these uses, however, are never able to radically change the meaning of a project of « education to liberalism » whose semantic framework has crystallized for a long time. Proposing a historical and political sociology of entrepreneurship education, this research intends to renew the knowledge on higher education in two ways : first, it analyzes spaces and actors that are typically/historicallunderstudied ; second, it analyzes two dimensions rarely considered together (university policies and content). This thesis therefore contributes to understanding the social mechanisms of production, circulation and legitimization of economic beliefs and practices characteristic of contemporary capitalism.

A heuristic and HSSI exploration of experiencing interplay between spiritual guidance and synchronicity within person-centred encounters

Gorsedene, Christa January 2018 (has links)
This research has been a study in amazement. Initially an agnostic physics graduate, the researcher undertook training in the person-centred approach (pca) to self-development and counselling, during which she came to experience strange personal experiences which she could neither gainsay nor fit into her then worldview. Sketching these briefly, exceptional human experiences (EHEs) and synchronicities increasingly happened until (shockingly) they declared a seeming spirit guide (Mungo) to her, also juxtaposed in time with her first-ever chance encounter with dowsing. Thereafter these phenomena, combined with randomisable image-cards, tutored her into a physically observable method of 'discussion' with them (alone or with another) conducted with pca values. This PhD involved researching that phenomenon-complex through 'discussions' with 35 participants. The methodology used was heuristics and its heuristic self-search inquiry specialism (HSSI) whose attention to personal experiencing, indwelling to contact tacit knowledge, and incubatory rest phases to foster illuminatory new 'ahaa!' apprehensions suited this nascent mysterious subject. Both participants and researcher experienced coincidences weaving the 'discussions' and their wider lives together. Thus synchronicity became equal-partner research-topic, being studied as it occurred and, through affecting certain choices, becoming part of the methodology itself. The phenomenon-complex was experienced as fostering ethical living, creativity, personal development and science-spirituality interconnection in ways wellpitched and paced for each experiencer. The phenomena were also experienced as synergizing with each other, and as fostering integration within and between persons. After work on the participant sessions was completed, the writings of further thesis chapters were 'butted into' by in-the-moment relevant synchronicities, not just singly but in flows and patterns in which the researcher found herself discerning overarching meanings. Given this exceptional opportunity the researcher (in effect doing a bonus research-section) tracked her experiencing of these synchronistic flows and her responses thereto wherever they led, using Sela-Smith's first-person heuristic self-search inquiry (HSSI) methodology. Each synchronistically-influenced chapter was experienced as exploring certain themes, with themes building as the thesis progressed. Heuristics and HSSI are usually transformative. This researcher was transformed from the ground up from agnosticism to credence in 'something more' through her experiencings (both alone and inter-relationally with participants). Their 'package deal' presented personal shadow-work alongside help in life difficulties, and great fascination but darker times too. In total she came to feel part of an interconnected, spiritually-intelligent and compassionate cosmic domain, and existentially happier.

Invisível, sutil e palpável: Shén神 nas dimensões diagnose e terapêutica da Racionalidade Médica Chinesa / Invisible, sutil and palpable: Shén神 in diagnostic and therapeutic dimensions of chinese medical rationality

Claudia dos Santos Ferreira 18 March 2011 (has links)
Shén神 is a chinese category of multiple and ample senses, present in the philosophy and medicine. It would direct the process of the appearance of all the things in the universe, as a shaper force. In the person, it acts in all the phases of corporal and personal development, from birth to death, featuring him as the unique person in the universe. It had its meanings reduced by Contemporary Chinese Medicine, hegemonic in China and established after the communistic Revolution. It is often translated as Spirit or Mind, in the West, and it is never dissociated from the physical body. It is present in all dimensions of the Chinese Medical Rationality, and a great range of senses is mentioned, in the conventional literature, when referred to the cosmological dimension, but, it is often reduced to the senses of the mind, according to occidental definitions, when referred to the dimensions of practical order: diagnosis and therapy. The challenge of this thesis was to elaborate a synthesis among the cosmological senses and the practical dimensions. For that, a theoretical-conceptual research was carried out from occidental readings and interpretations of classical chinese texts, created by authors with highly accurate philological criterion. It was noticed that, the senses of Shén神 are present in reciprocal resonance with several other categories of the Chinese Medicine Doutrine, as Qì氣, Xuè血, Jīng精, Qìng情, Emotions, Zàng-Fǔ贓腑, Organs and Visceras, among others. Each one of them with specific attributions, which, however, would reorganize themselves, in resonance with the others. Thus, proceeding the diagnosis and initiating a therapy directed to each one of these categories, the therapist would be interfering, directly on Shén神 and vice versa. Shén神 might assume various meanings, in a vision of totality. From this point on, we understood the need of studying these categories, in resonance with Shén神, beyond the own diagnosis and therapy, in the light of the Chinese Thought premises. Categories like process, totality, potential or efficacy have helped to apprehend, not only the wide meanings of Shén神, and their resonances, but also the peculiarities of the act of diagnosing and treating in the Chinese Medical Rationality. Then, it was elaborated a vision of the Diagnosis and Therapy capable of contemplating Shén神 and its resonances, that we expect can be used in the healthcare services, contributing to health promoting strategies, straitening the therapist-patient biding and more therapeutical efficacy in the practice of the Chinese Medical Rationality.

A qualitative approach was selected, aiming the use of some elements of a Thick Description cited by Geertz (1989) and some elements of the notion of genre of discourse from Bakhtin (2003). The data were collected, analyzed and interpreted considering the contextualization of them, through steps that implicated: a bibliographical, documental and archives survey, field research, interviews with various agents of the festivities, and musical transcriptions, analyses and interpretations. The results revealed that the Holy Spirit Festival and the congada from Niquelândia were built in a historic and current process of encounters and battles of representations among groups from different socio-cultural fields. Meanings and significances were related, so, not only with the festivals, but also with a hybrid musical complex, religious and profane, Afro-Brazilian and European, most considerable representation of the multiple identities that compose the agents of the two festivals studied. Therefore, it was possible to prove that the festivals and the music studied are a result of investment in the city of Niquelândia because they integrate identity processes in this scenario, processes implicated with battles of social representations which forces that these cultural manifestations happen separately, in two different dates and locations.

This intention was put into practice through a double movement. Firstly, we analyze the conditions under which Brasília was created, so we can understand the relationship between this magazine and the intellectual and political fields in this period of time (chapter I). As a result, we also explore the discourses contained within Brasília as a space of visibility of the pan-lusitanist policy. We also investigate within its various sections (The life of the Brazilian Studies Institute, Critics, Articles, Documents, Chronicles, Notes, Anthologies) the relationship between these discourses and the values and myths concerning Salazarism. Secondly, we analyze these relations through productions which are mainly about the “Atlantic Policy” (chapter II). Thirdly, we investigate historiographic texts which implicitly discuss this matter (chapter III). The examination of these diverse discourses and the lusitanization project of the South Atlantic allow us to notice the intimate relationship between Brazilian and Portuguese academics in their defense of this corporative and authoritarian project, and, fundamentally, in the protection of the Portuguese colonialism in Africa.
