O movimento da matemática moderna e o ensino das operações com números fracionários: uma análise histórica de livros didáticos / The modern mathematics movement and the teaching of operations with fractional numbers: a historical analysis of some textbooksJose Luiz Soares dos Santos 14 December 2015 (has links)
This work is an analysis of the teaching of fractional numbers in junior high school and first degree courses in Brazil and its relation to modern mathematics, from mathematics textbooks published during the Modern Mathematics Movement (MMM). We use as sources, teh textbooks by Osvaldo Sangiorgi, Ary Quintela, Carlos Galante and Michael Asis Name, concerning the period of the 1950s, before the MMM, the early 1970s, in which occurs the decline of this movement in Brazil. In developing this work, we observed the changes and maintenance in legislation, curricula, the layout of the books, the concepts and different approaches given to fractional numbers by each author. We note, as changes in textbooks, the introduction of set theory, the structural properties and representations (nomenclature, symbols and diagrams), accompanied by the increased number of exercises, colors, images and dimensions of books. We note that the related conceptual changes are MMM are present to a greater extent in the Sangiorgi books, showing that there was no uniformity in the incorporation of modern mathematical ideas in textbooks of mathematics 1960s. We note also that the term rational numbers replacing fractions and fractional numbers, it is already consolidated in the 1970s.

O impacto da matemática moderna no ensino dos números naturais: uma análise de sete livros / The impact of modern mathematics teaching of natural numbers: an analysis of seven booksWilian Faias da Silva 14 December 2015 (has links)
We analyse the impact of Modern Mathematics (MM) in textbooks of mathematics along the Modern Mathematics Movement (MMM) in Brazil, considering as main sources some mathematical textbooks edited in the 1950\'s, before the MMM\'s advent, in the 1960\'s, the climax of the MMM in Brazil, and the 1970\'s, when the movement faces a serious decline. The authors considered here were Ary Quintela, Osvaldo Sangiorgi, Carlos Galante, Osvaldo Marcondes dos Santos, e Miguel Assis Name. In these periods, we analysed the insertion of the natural numbers in the textbooks concurrently with both editorial, conceptual and laws changes. We identified the introduction of the set theory and some mathematical structures as the major change in the subject. Yet, many editorial changes were observed as the increase of colors, images and exercises. In this sense, the introduction of both the set theory and all these graphical artifacts are innovations of the period which can not be undoubtedly analysed in a separated way. On the contrary, they are complementary phenoms.

Dessa forma, as questões norteadoras, desta
The present work aims at the historical study about the transformations suffered by
geometric design discipline, throughout the course of degree in mathematics, created in
the late 1960, at the Federal University of Juiz de Fora, with the aim of identifying how
education was taught this discipline, as well as the reasons that led to its withdrawal from
the curriculum. The pillars that give theoretical-methodological basis to this survey are
based on modern historiographical perspective proposed by the Annales School,
represented in this context by the historian Marc Bloch. It will also use the studies of
Michael de Certeau (2001) which brings reflections on everyday life in research, André
Chervell (1990) refers to the history of school subjects, Ivor Goodson (1990) works that the
evidence that elements permeate the constitution, organization and evolution of disciplines
and schools or academic, and Alessandro Portelli (2010) that reveals the importance of
using the interview as an instrument capable of achieving information that we could not
have access only when working with documents. Thus, the guiding questions, this survey,
were: what factors did it led to the disappearance of the geometric design discipline in the
course of degree in mathematics from UFJF? Why was the Geometric design discipline in
the course of degree in mathematics from UFJF with so much prestige, while at other
times appeared so unappreciated? What does the practical need demanded by society
contributed in the formation and stabilization of the geometric design discipline in teacher
training courses of math? How did scientific knowledge related to geometric design
participate in the demarcation of discipline? From the sources analyzed, curricula
matrices, contents, curriculum teaching materials, legislation, interviews with students,
teachers identify and others traces Geometric drawing education during the period from
1969 to 2009, pointing, elements that gave the discipline moments of prestige, as well as
depreciation over time, analyzing the reasons that led to its extinction in the course
curriculum of mathematics of UFJF. The main elements listed were: legal determinations;
possibility of licensee in mathematics in act on Basic Education as professor of Geometric
Design; the search for spaces, by the Mathematics Department in the curriculum matrix
course degree in mathematics; the little communication between the departments
responsible in giving disciplines to course degree in mathematics; the Design Department
extinction and the later transfer of geometric design for the Mathematics Department; the
conceptions regarding the geometric design relevance in the course of degree in
Mathematics. Finally, this dissertation grants people think, at present, new looks for the
design a training course for mathematics teachers.

Objetiva conhecer a realidade
quadrinhos.
A análise
This study deals with a qualitative investigation with quantitative aspects carried out
during 2012 and 2013. It aims to learn about the reality of Geometry teaching in the
final years of primary school in the municipal schools in the city of Pelotas in order to
provide the History of Mathematics as a mediating instrument for teaching and
learning through cartoons. The theoretical foundation is made up of three stages.
Firstly, the search of elements about the history of mathematics and cartoons as
pedagogical resources to be used in the classroom. The Scientific Electronic Library
Online (SciElO) dataset is used for free searches on the internet. It also uses the
approaches provided by Miguel (1997, 2009) as well as the ones provided by
Vergueiro (2010). In the second stage a bibliographic study, regarding the mediation
concepts, zone of proximal development, spontaneous and scientific knowledge
about Vygotsky theory (2011) and researchers in the area, was carried out. This
study was used in the elaboration of the product of this research. The third stage
resorts to Pavanello (1989) and to event publication datasets such as the National
Meeting of Mathematics Education in order to capture elements to understand the
teaching of Geometry in the schools. As far as the empirical field is concerned, it
focuses on how Geometry has been taught in schools located in the central district of
Pelotas; teachers meetings aiming at asking the subjects about the placing of
Geometry contents in the program, main difficulties in the approach and how learning
takes place with nine subjects; lastly, an open interview was carried out with three
teachers who were absent from the focal group meeting. The analysis of the data
was carried out by convergence of speech and highlighted by the elements identified
in the bibliographic revision. Among the results found, the following was observed:
lack of time for the approach and the placing of Geometry in the final years in
addition to the precarious state of schools structures as hindering factors. It was also
concluded that the four skills from the blocks related to Geometry are not approached
in all the investigated schools. Before this reality, a cartoon almanac which tells the
history of mathematicians who studied the deficit concepts verified in the
questionnaire (Tales de Mileto and Euclides from Alexandria) was elaborated. It also
includes recreational activities, which are entertaining and apply the geometric
concepts developed aiming at promoting the mediation of the construction of this
mathematical knowledge.

Eudoxe de Cnide : une édition traduite et commentée des fragments et testimonia / Eudoxus of Cnidus : an edition, translation and commentary of the fragments and testimoniaGysembergh, Victor 03 December 2015 (has links)
Eudoxus of Cnidus, a Greek scholar from the 4th century BCE, was active in a wide range of fields including philosophy, mathematics, astronomy, geography, medicine, legislation and astrology. This doctoral thesis consists of an edition, translation and commentary of the fragments and testimonia concerning Eudoxus. It brings together some 800 passages from ancient and Byzantine texts dealing with Eudoxus. In particular, it includes unpublished texts and new conjectures. The edition is comes with the first modern-language translation of all ancient fragments ant testimonia concerning Eudoxus. The commentary provided in the footnotes sheds light on problems of interpretation and endeavours to determine the value of the various sources for reconstructing Eudoxus' work. The introduction preceding the edition, translation and commentary contains a synthetic account of Eudoxus' intellectual activity which reconstitutes its depth and consistency in all of the fields in which it took place, and puts it back in its historical and cultural context.

The dissertation presents a research that is located in the field of History of the Mathematics Education and that took as object of study, the formation of primary teachers at the Flores da Cunha (IE) General Education Institute in the city of Porto Alegre. In dialogue with authors from Cultural, Historical and Oral History, we sought to understand the ways of appropriation to learn how to teach the mathematical knowledge in the institution from 1950 to 1970, a period characterized by the Modern Mathematical Movement (MMM). We infer from the evidence verified in documents located in the acquis from the Laboratory of Mathematics from the institution and the interviews with the former students and the former teachers, that the MMM guided the formation of the normalists. This movement materialized in the actions of the teachers and students who learned and taught Modern Mathematics, in the didactic materials studied and produced by the normalists in the Mathematics Laboratory of the institution, as well as in the speeches of the former students and the press of the time. It was evidenced that the involvement of the normalists with the renewal of Mathematics, within IE, started, initially, from the concerns and the actions of the teacher Odila Barros Xavier, who aspired for changes in the teaching of Mathematics since the end of the 1940s At the time, the teacher was already studying changes in the curriculum of Normal Mathematics Course, in the relentless search for renewal in the training of primary teachers. Through the founding and organization of the Mathematics Laboratory, from the 1950s on wards, teacher Odila expanded the spaces for teacher training beyond IE's doors and contributed to the dissemination of modernizing thinking, coordinating study groups, giving courses on fundamentals theoretical and methodological approach of Modern Mathematics and encouraging practices in experimental classes with manipulative materials. The culmination of this course takes place in the late 1960s and early 1970s, which is why the Mathematics Teaching Group of Porto Alegre (GEEMPA) was founded under the leadership of teacher Esther Grossi. Through the GEEMPA, teacher training courses were offered in the presence of several scholars, among them Zoltan Dienes, one of the main authors studied at the Flores da Cunha General Education Institute. Throughout the 1950s and 1970s, the institution became a reference not only in the initial formation of the normalists, but also in the continuing formation of Mathematics teachers in Rio Grande do Sul, with national and international recognition, during the period marked by the MMM.

Project work Is the Legacy of Ancient Greece and Rome really the Cradle of European Civilization?Hvastija, Darka, Kos, Jasna 17 April 2012 (has links)
In this paper the project for 15-year-old students with the title Ancient Greece and Rome and the sub-title Is the Legacy of Ancient Greece and Rome really the Cradle of European Civilization? is introduced. It shows how to connect mathematics with art, history, physics, geography and philosophy by studying ancient Greek scientists
and their achievements. Collaborative teaching is introduced. The major aim of the project was to show mathematics as a part of human civilization and to follow its development through history. Some topics from theory of numbers and geometry were studied. One part of the project was also a theatre performance, which
should make the students aware of the difficulties of many dedicated mathematicians to find the answers to some problems from the ancient times.

Changes in the North Carolina Mathematics Curriculum: A Comparative Study, 1920s, 1930’s with 2003Lock, Corey, Pugalee, David 07 May 2012 (has links)
The purpose of this paper is to compare curriculum documents for K-12 education from the state of North Carolina from two time periods, 1920s and 2003. The historical development of the mathematics curriculum in North Carolina provides a snapshot of the shifts in mathematics teaching and learning. North Carolina, a state in
the southeast of the United States, has had a statewide standard course over a period spanning more than eighty years. A document analysis of printed curriculum standards from allows a description of the mathematics concepts and tasks that were expected of students in those years. The analysis revealed stark contrasts in the focus of mathematics from a very computational emphasis to one of problem solving. The analysis also highlighted the understanding of algebraic concepts and ideas as an essential outcome of current mathematics
programs.

Řešení optimalizačních úloh na 2 a 3. stupni školy / Solving optimization problems in lower and upper secondary schoolMichal, Jakub January 2021 (has links)
The goal of this diploma thesis is to gather and describe ways the optimisation problems had been solved before the calculus was invented. Some of the methods identified through history are generalised and these which could be utilised at secondary or primary school education are described more in depth. Thesis descri- bes the method, where educator follows historical development of the problem in classroom and what benefits it might bring, as well. There is a section dedicated to evaluation of experiment which goal was to investigate understanding of pupils to certain concepts in the field of optimisation, mainly concerning isoperimetric problem. It was also focused on the pupils fe- edback to different approaches of optimisation problem solving. 1
