[pt] DE PROVEDOR A CUIDADOR: UM ESTUDO SOBRE HOMENS E CUIDADO COM CRIANÇAS E ADOLESCENTES EM ÂMBITO FAMILIAR / [en] FROM PROVIDER TO CAREGIVER: A STUDY ABOUT MEN AND FAMILY CARE FOR CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS

TAISSA MENDONCA DE JESUS 25 May 2021 (has links)
[en] The present study seeks to understand the meanings that men attribute to the practice of parental care with children and adolescents within the family, based on field research carried out at the Municipal Hospital Jesus, a public health unit, with care for children and adolescents, located in the North Zone of Rio de Janeiro. The method used was qualitative research, with semi-structured interviews with ten men present in the health unit accompanying children and adolescents in consultations in the ambulatory sector, with the purpose of identifying their conceptions and practices about the care for these subjects. For the analysis of empirical data, the method of interpretation of meanings was used, based on hermeneutic-dialectic principles, in dialogue with studies on the practice of care and family organizations, gender relations and roles in families, men and masculinities and insertion of men in caring for children and adolescents, with the exercise of parenting as the focus. The results of the research reveal that, although still fewer in number than women, men have increasingly participated in care within the family, attributing meanings to the male parental exercise that are beyond the role of provider.

The Transitioning Couple: Sexual Relationship and Sexual Orientation Experiences of Transgender Men and their Cisgender Female Partners

Pugliese, Meghan E. 06 June 2013 (has links)
Sex is a biologically based classification, determining whether an individual is male or female. Comparatively, gender is a socially designed construct, which varies between cultures and prescribes what it means to be a man or a woman. Western culture suggests all individuals fall neatly into one of these two groups. Females are expected to display feminine characteristics such as being nurturers, while males are expected to display masculine characteristics such as being providers. There exists, however, a population of individuals who identify themselves as "transgender," meaning, they feel inconsistency between their internal sense of gender identity and their birth-assigned biological sex and/or assigned gender role. These individuals wish to separate from their birth-assigned gender role and express through physical modification their true gender identity. In the context of romantic relationships, it was once thought that disclosure of one partner's transgender identity meant inevitable demise of the relationship. Clinical guidelines offered advice to the transgender partner, suggesting they abandon their family, change their identity, and begin a new life elsewhere (Lev, 2004). More recently, however, clinical experiences suggest the possibility that many transgender people can maintain healthy and sustainable relationships. This study sought to understand the impact of gender transition on the sexual relationship and sexual orientation of female-to-male (FTM) transgender individuals and their cisgender female partners. / Master of Science

[pt] HOMENS AUTORES DE VIOLÊNCIA DOMÉSTICA E FAMILIAR CONTRA MULHER NA CIDADE DE MANAUS NO CONTEXTO DA LEI MARIA DA PENHA / [en] MALE PERPETRATORS OF DOMESTIC AND FAMILY VIOLENCE AGAINST WOMEN IN MANAUS CITY IN THE CONTEXT OF THE MARIA DA PENHA LAW

NEREYDA CARDOSO MUNIZ DE OLIVEIRA SANTOS 05 January 2012 (has links)
[en] This study began with the questioning: How care programs that women who suffered domestic and famile violence in Manaus-AM has included men perpetrators of this violence, HAV in their services. Law 11.340-2006, known as the Maria da Penha Law provides in Articles 35 and 45 care services to HAV in centers of education and rehabilitation and or recovery and rehabilitation programs, considering the importance of being offered a problem-solving assistance to all those involved in the dynamics of violence affected. Thus, the quest to achieve response was developed made an exploratory qualitative research, the professionals who work in two programs of public attention to women suffering from domestic violence, to determine how is the applicability of the Act in relation to HAV for beyond its responsibility for the acts committed. The statements obtained show the absence of actions to achieve this effect, especially HAV, in the governmental sphere, although the professionals heard in the semi-structured interviews of real need to consider the implementation of preventive measures and assistance aimed at men in dealing with violation women s rights in captivity. They understand the complexity of the situation of violence experienced by women, identifying the obstacles and limited resources available to effect the monitoring of all those involved in domestic violence. Also suggest some initiatives in this direction. The full applicability of the Maria da Penha Law still has a long way to reality.

Disasters, such as man-made and natural, are described as a disruption to society through widespread damage to people and material. Counties experience man-made and natural disasters. Depending on its response to the incidents, counties can determine if the citizens view the county as a trustworthy and responsible government body. This study explored if there were differences in citizen trust in government response to different disasters and if citizens of different demographics had differing levels of trust. This study found that 1) there is no statistical difference between the average citizen trust scores between the two disasters 2) there is no statistical difference between the average citizen trust scores for the two groups, and 3) there is no statistical difference between the overall average citizen trust score between older and younger generations.

How to be a good god man? : Humanitarianism in conflict among gode män and foster homes for unaccompanied minors following the Swedish migration turn

Ekerstedt, Malin January 2022 (has links)
In 2015 Sweden experienced a large increase in the number of asylum-seekers arriving in the country. Among them were 35,000 unaccompanied minors. As a response, a rollback of migrant rights was introduced beginning in November that year. This study examines the experiences of people who volunteered as guardians/foster homes for unaccompanied minors and subsequently followed them through the asylum systems during this period. The research is based on 12 in-depth interviews with guardians/foster parents. Three major themes are identified within the interview data: Unreliable systems/injustice, Going above and beyond and (Unexpected) solidarity. The findings suggest that Sweden’s adoption of much harsher migration policies made the work of guardians/foster homes increasingly difficult to carry out to a level that provided the necessary support for these children. The guardians/foster parents also found the asylum systems to be untrustworthy and unjust to a point where the unaccompanied minors’ rights were not upheld. Affectionate relationships with the unaccompanied minors and acts of solidarity by persons working within the systems and in civil society were counter-weights providing guardians/foster parents with energy and hope.

Hur representeras problemet med mäns våld mot kvinnor på regional nivå? : En WPR-analys av två länsstyrelsers policydokument om mäns våld mot kvinnor

Almyren, Jessica January 2023 (has links)
Sweden is one of the most equal countries in the world. Despite this studie show that every fifth woman is subjected to serious sexual violence and 14 percent of women have been subjected to threats of physical violence. Men’s violence against women is a global, societal problem and occurs in all cultures throughout the world. To stop men’s violence against women the Swedish government have made an equality policy goal named “men's violence against women must end”. This essay will examine how Länsstyrelsen Västernorrland och Länsstyrelsen Västra Götaland use the national policy about men’s violence against women. With Carol Bacchi's What's the problem represented to be method and poststructuralist theory, the problem representations of the county administration policies, their underlying assumptions and their effects are analyzed. The results show that the problem represented in the county administrations' documents is: lack of routines as a problem, insufficient competence and knowledge as a problem and women as a problem. The analysis also shows that the problem representations originally come from the national strategy and that they create different effects that affect society. /
2023-06-20

Perceptions and Punishment of Human-Animal Altercations

Mata Guidi, Adriana C 01 January 2020 (has links)
Humans and animals have a widely varying relationship which has been studied at length. Examining our interactions with animals in negative contexts can help us further understand the factors that’s influence the nature of the human-animal relationship, particularly with our most popular companion animals. This study continues the use of a jury design, previously used in studies regarding animal abuse, to examine responses to a scenario of an altercation resulting in a dog biting a person. In this study, 243 undergraduate students read the scenario presented to them and completed a survey examining their judgements of blame and punishment for the incident. In the interest of examining the effects of different variables, participants were randomly presented with 1 of 18 potential scenarios in which the role of the human in potentially provoking the dog, the breed of the dog involved, and the degree of damage inflicted were manipulated. Results showed an avoidance toward making any judgements on the dog’s disposition, neither positively nor negatively. Additionally, some gender differences were discovered in responses related to euthanasia, blame on the owner, and the promotion of an obedience training program. Surprisingly, degree of damage did not have significant effects on responses, while dog breed differences revealed that participants placed greater blame and responsibility on owners of Pit bulls rather than the dog itself, which is potentially explained by the sample’s age demographics. The manipulation of human provocation of the incident proved to have the most significant effect of participant responses of blame and punishment, affecting perceptions of blame attributed to the dog and the victim, as well as the punishments and protections deemed appropriate. The results suggest an emphasis on human component in the perceptions of the human-animal relationship and provide insight on the variables relevant to the relationship.
