Durant ces dernières décennies, la traductologie a connu un essor remarquable. En côtoyant des disciplines voisines, elle a élargi ses champs d’investigation. Ainsi le champ conceptuel de la traduction s’étend-il désormais à divers domaines bien au-delà du transfert interlinguistique. Or, dans ce champ d’étude complexe où se croisent de multiples approches, il n’existe guère de consensus au sein de la traductologie et l’expansion de la notion de traduction risque de provoquer la dilution de son objet d’étude.Face à cette situation, la nécessité de mener des réflexions épistémologiques se manifeste au sein de la discipline. Dans cette mouvance, ce travail se propose d’étudier sur un terrain commun différentes positions théoriques sur l’activité de la traduction en revisitant les lieux de convergence entre métaphore et traduction, qui nouent un lien étroit sur le plan historique et conceptuel dans l’espace culturel de l’Occident. Pour cette analyse critique et métathéorique, les métaphores deviennent tantôt un instrument cognitif permettant de comprendre l’acte de traduire, tantôt un procédé argumentatif visant à imposer de nouveaux modèles théoriques, tantôt l’objet de la traduction, tantôt le miroir des théories de la traduction. / Over the last few decades, remarkable headway has been made in Translation Studies. Interaction withother neighboring disciplines has made Translation Studies expand its field of investigation. In particular,the conceptual field of translation reached an extensive area well beyond the interlingual transfer. Yet, acomplex picture of discipline that consists of multiple approaches reveals that there is little consensusamong scholars in the field of Translation Studies. Moreover, the expansion of the notion of translationmay seem obscure the main subject of study. Given this situation, there is a greater need to undertake theepistemological reflections within the discipline.In line with this, this thesis proposes to investigate on a common ground between various theoreticalpositions on the translation activity by revisiting the points of convergence between metaphor andtranslation that are closely linked, both historically and conceptually in the domain of Western culture.For this critical and meta-theoretical analysis, the metaphor take many different forms including cognitivetool to provide the understanding of the act of translation, argumentative method to impose newtheoretical models, the object of translation, and the mirror of translation theories.

En partant d’une synthèse sur les relations entre l’évolution de langue, la culture et la traduction, la thèse vise à établir une recherche à propos des effets d’influence de la culture d’arrivée sur le choix des stratégies de traduction. Sélectionnés en vue d’une fonction contrastive, trois sujets d’échanges culturels sont discutés dans la thèse. Les études nominales et culturelles de style comparatif sur les trois sujets d’intérêt acheminent ultérieurement la thèse vers les analyses sur les méthodes de la traduction sous influences d’idéologie culturelle. / Begin with a synthesis on the relations between the evolution of language, the culture and the translation, this thesis aims to establish a recherche regarding the effects of the target culture in influencing the choice of translation strategies. Selected for a contrastive purpose, three topics of cultural exchanges are discussed in the thesis. The nominal and cultural studies of the three topics from a comparative view then paved the path of the thesis towards the analysis with reference to the methods of translation under the influence of cultural ideology.

Cette thèse porte sur la diffusion et l’influence des idées d’Aristote en Chine de la fin de la dynastie Ming jusqu’à la période contemporaine. Le but de cette recherche consiste à cerner les impacts interculturels et à favoriser la compréhension des dialogues et des échanges entre la culture d’origine européenne et chinoise. Il était important de découvrir la traduction des oeuvres et les recherches spécialisées concernant la philosophie d’Aristote en Chine. Il semblait aussi pertinent de se pencher sur l’étude comparative entre la philosophie d’Aristote et quelques courants de pensée principaux de la Chine dans certains domaines, comme l’éthique et l’éducation de Confucius, la philosophie naturelle de Lao zi, la logique de Mo zi et la pensée politique de Han Feizi. Et pour conclure, il fallait reconnaître les influences considérables d’Aristote dans ces domaines en Chine. Cette étude s’appuie sur une base documentaire large et variée que j’ai dépouillée en France et en Chine. / This thesis focuses on the spread and the influence of Aristotle¡¯s ideas in China from the end of the Ming`s Dynasty to the contemporary period. The purpose of this research is to identify the interculturals impacts and to promote the understanding of the dialogues and the exchanges between European and Chinese native culture. It was of great importance to find out the translation of the works and also the specialized research on the philosophy of Aristotle in China. In addition, a comparative study on the philosophy of Aristotle and several major schools of thought in China in some areas, such as the ethics and the education of Confucius, the natural philosophy of Laozi, the logic of Mo Zi and the political thought of Han Feizi. At the end, we try to conclude with the considerable influence of Aristotle in several areas in China. This study is based on a wide series of documents we have got through in France and in China.

Cette thèse démontre le caractère fondamental du multilinguisme de Nabokov dans son écriture en anglais : après avoir été un auteur prolifique en russe, l’écrivain a opéré une transition linguistique et n’a plus composé ses romans qu’en langue anglaise. Cette dernière ne peut nullement être réduite à une langue seconde puisque Nabokov a su l’écrire avant le russe et la parlait depuis l’enfance. Il a par ailleurs bénéficié d’une éducation polyglotte puisqu’il maîtrisait parfaitement le français. Cette thèse étudie le style de Nabokov en soulignant sa créativité linguistique et en examinant le rôle fondateur que la traduction a joué dans le positionnement de ses différentes langues les unes par rapport aux autres. L’identité bilingue de Nabokov a pour conséquence que son écriture est déviante, mais aussi défiante : elle est marquée d’étrangeté (le caractère de ce qui est étrange) et d’étrangéité (ce qui est étranger). Dans ses romans, la langue anglaise voit surgir en son sein des mots étrangers qui, typographiquement et sémantiquement, déstabilisent la lecture : le phénomène de l’alternance codique (ou code-switching) est au cœur de cette thèse et interroge le rapport entre l’auteur tyrannique (Couturier) et son lecteur. La langue anglaise elle-même perd de sa familiarité et devient étrangère : le bilinguisme de Nabokov lui confère un statut d’étranger dans la langue, ce qui lui permet de voir la violence du langage (Lecercle) et de la faire apparaître, notamment grâce à des calembours et des néologismes. Nabokov est ce que Deleuze appelle un grand écrivain à l’aide d’une formule proustienne : ses livres « sont écrits dans une sorte de langue étrangère ». / This thesis shows how central Nabokov’s multilingualism was to his prose in English: after authoring several works in Russian, the writer changed languages and then only wrote his novels in English. It was not merely a second language for him because Nabokov could write English before Russian and he had spoken it since childhood. Besides, he enjoyed a polyglot education and was fluent in French. This thesis studies Nabokov’s style in English by focusing on his linguistic creativity and by examining the founding role that translation played in how his several tongues were going to position themselves in relation to one another. Nabokov’s bilingual identity means that his writing both challenges and deviates from the norm: it is dappled with strangeness and foreignness. In his novels, foreign words irrupt in the midst of the English prose and, typographically and semantically, they destabilize the reading experience: code-switching is at the heart of this thesis and questions the relation between “the narrator’s tyranny” (Couturier) and his reader. English itself loses its familiarity and becomes a foreign language: Nabokov’s bilingualism means he is like a foreigner in this tongue; therefore he reveals the violence of language (Lecercle) and puts it into play through puns and neologisms. Nabokov is what Deleuze calls, thanks to a Proustian expression, a great writer: his books “are written in a kind of foreign language”.

Cette thèse doctorale s’intéresse aux concepts de ‘centre’ et de ‘périphérie’ dans la littérature brésilienne contemporaine et sur le marché éditorial brésilien et international. Centrée sur l’œuvre de quatre auteurs brésiliens contemporains (Rodrigo Ciríaco, Marcelino Freire, Ana Paula Maia et Patrícia Melo), aux parcours personnels et artistiques variés, cette recherche montre que les auteurs en question peuvent être positionnés à des points différents dans un continuum entre le pôle ‘centre’ et le pôle ‘périphérie’. Ainsi, contre toute logique dichotomique, les différentes configurations identitaires de ces auteurs, qui se situent plus ou moins près du ‘centre’ ou de la ‘périphérie’, se construisent à travers leur relation avec chaque pôle. Ce travail de recherche commence par considérer la literatura periférica en tant que terminus a quo, et ce d’un point de vue qui ne se limite pas à une approche chronologique ou historico-culturelle : on étudie également la restructuration (ou déstructuration ?) progressive de la relation osmotique entre l’écriture et l’espace caractéristique de cette littérature. On note par exemple les œuvres d’une écrivaine comme Patrícia Melo, où la périphérie n’est qu’un simple scénario de fond. Enfin, cette thèse s’intéresse à l’influence d’auteurs brésiliens, en particulier les représentants de la literatura periférica, sur le marché éditorial international, sous l’angle de la traduction et de la participation à des événements culturels internationaux comme la Foire du Livre de Francfort et le Salon du Livre de Paris. / Starting from the concepts of the centre and the periphery, this thesis analyses their representation in Brazilian contemporary literature and their relationship in the Brazilian and international publishing market. Focusing on four Brazilian contemporary writers with different personal and creative paths – Rodrigo Ciríaco, Marcelino Freire, Ana Paula Maia e Patrícia Melo – this research aims to demonstrate that they can be placed on an imaginary line, which develops through multiple gradations. Therefore, this continuum is opposed to a binary opposition’s point of view. From this perspective, the emergence of a new literary movement from the suburbs of Brazilian big cities, the literatura periférica, is analyzed in order to try to understand how it is different, or not, from other literary discourses. Finally, the thesis observes the presence of Brazilian writers, especially exponents of literatura periférica, in the international publishing market, through their translation and participation in major international cultural events such as Frankfurt Book Fair and Paris Book Fair.

Écrits à la croisée des langues, les textes postcoloniaux sont marqués par ce phénomène que Rainier Grutman a appelé «hétérolinguisme», à savoir la coprésence des langues différentes dans un texte littéraire. Se focalisant sur un corpus de dix romans francophones postcoloniaux, publiés en France à partir des années 2000, cette thèse se propose d’une part d’étudier la mise en scène de l’hétérolinguisme dans les textes sources – ses formes et son fonctionnement – et, d’autre part, d’analyser son devenir en traduction en s’appuyant sur les versions aussi bien italiennes qu’anglaises et espagnoles. C’est le problème de la restitution de l’hétérogénéité linguistique qui est au centre de cette étude. L’analyse nous permettra de montrer comment la traduction peut relever le défi de l’hétérolinguisme. Loin de représenter un problème insoluble, l’hétérogénéité linguistique peut être restituée pourvu que la traduction dépasse les préceptes de la transparence et de la lisibilité sur lesquelles elle se régit. / Written at the intersection of languages, postcolonial texts show evidence of the phenomenon that Rainer Grutman has called “heterolingualism”, that is to say the coexistence of different languages in a literary text. Focusing on a corpus of ten postcolonial novels written in French, published in France from the year 2000 onwards, this thesis, on the one hand, deals with the inclusion of heterolingualism in source texts – its forms and the way it works – and on the other hand, analyses how it is translated in the Italian as well as the English and Spanish versions. The problem of rendering linguistic heterogeneity is the core of this research. Our analysis will allow us to demonstrate how translation can take up the challenge of heterolingualism. Far from being an insoluble problem, linguistic heterogeneity can be rendered as long as the translation overrides the principles of transparency and readability on which it is usually based.

Les kinétoplastides sont un groupe de protozoaires, et qui menace plus de 400 millions de personnes dans le monde entier. Ils possèdent des segments d'expansion d'ARNr (SE) inhabituellement plus larges dans les sous-unités 40S. Ici, nous avons purifié à partir de lysats de cellules de T. cruzi des complexes d'initiation natifs (48S IC) et des sous-unités de 40S natives que nous avons ensuite analysées par cryo-ME. La structure des 48S IC révèle certains des aspects spécifiques de la traduction aux kinétoplastides, tels qu'un réseau d’interaction complexe entre eIF3 et SEs. En outre, notre structure met en évidence le rôle de DDX60 dans l'initiation de la traduction chez les kinétoplastides. La structure d'une sous-unité 40S native révèle l'existence d'un facteur non caractérisé (appelé ηF). Le site de liaison de ηF suggère un rôle dans le contrôle de la traduction. De plus, nous avons rapporté́ la structure d’une nouvelle protéine ribosomale (-r) spécifique des kinétoplastides (KSRP). Notre travail pose les premières bases structurales des aspects spécifiques de l'initiation de la traduction chez les kinétoplastides. / Kinetoplastid is a group of flagellated protozoans, which threatens more than 400 million people world-wide. They possess unusual large rRNA expansion segments (ES) in the 40S, such as ES6S, ES7S and ES9S and their location suggests an involvement in the initiation process. Furthermore, all mature mRNAs possess a conserved 5’ spliced-leader. Here, we purified from T. cruzi cell lysates native initiation complexes and native 40S subunits that we then analysed by cryo-EM. The structure of native initiation complexes reveals several kinetoplastid-specific aspects of translation, such as an intricate interaction network between eIF3 and ES6S and ES7S. Furthermore, it reveals the role of DDX60 in translation initiation in kinetoplastids. The structure of native 40S subunits reveals the existence of an uncharacterized factor (termed ηF) bound at platform of the 40S. The binding site of ηF suggests a role in translational control. Moreover, we reported a novel kinetoplastid-specific ribosomal (r-) protein (KSRP) bound to the 40S subunit. Our work represents the first structural characterization of kinetoplastids-specific aspects of translation initiation.
