“I'm complicit and I'm ambivalent and that's crazy”: Care-less spaces for women in the academy

Rogers, Chrissie 10 August 2016 (has links)
Yes / This paper is about three working class women academics in their 40s, who are at different phases in their career. I take a reflexive, feminist, (Reay 2000, 2004, Ribbens and Edwards, 1998) life story approach (Plummer, 2001) in order to understand their particular narratives about identity, complicity, relationships and discomfort within the academy, and then how they inhabit care-less spaces. However unique their narratives, I am able to explore an aspect of higher education – women and their working relationships – through a lens of care-less spaces, and argue that care-less-ness in the academy, can create and reproduce animosity and collusion. Notably, this is damaging for intellectual pursuits, knowledge production and markedly, the identity of woman academics. In introducing this work, I first contextualise women in the academy and define the term care-less spaces, then move onto discuss feminist methods. I then explore and critique in some detail, the substantive findings under the headings of ‘complicity and faking it’ and ‘publishing and collaboration’. The final section concludes the paper by drawing on Herring's (2013) legal premise, in the context of care ethics, as a way to interrogate particular care-less spaces within higher education.

No. of bitstreams: 1 Otávio Romano De Oliveira.pdf: 442520 bytes, checksum: 8c9d4b9b0613e96c889cf985a7631706 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2016-09-27 / This study aims to study the outsourcing, proposing an analysis in all its approaches in order to understand it in full. Initially shows the need for their appearance and their usage in enterprises, as well as the interests behind its spread. Then presents its applicability in other countries, in Brazil and legislative developments on the subject. The important thing is to stand out that outsourcing is a global phenomenon used in most countries of the world, while in Brazil it is often used in riotous fashion, why is synonymous with insecurity and is opposed by the supervisory bodies, prosecutors and Judges Job. The main point of the work is to defend the need for its regulation by Congress, since outsourcing is governed only by Precedent 331 of the Superior Labor Court, and is the object of immeasurable discussions in the Labour Judiciary. However, the rules that are being posed by the bill the House of Representatives No. 4,330 / 04 which will regulate the outsourcing and, after approval received the PLC number No. 30/2015 and is currently awaiting a vote by the Senate Federal, is the subject of much discussion and criticism of workers Unions and the judiciary organs, because they think, the way it is drafted, the new rules of outsourcing will bring a massive casualization and reduced fundamental rights for workers / O presente trabalho tem por finalidade o estudo da terceirização, propondo uma análise em todos os seus enfoques, a fim de compreendê-la de forma integral.

Principes de gouvernance d’entreprise minière et réalités culturelles : recherche d’une convergence au service de la performance : relations de travail et enjeux culturels dans le secteur minier en Nouvelle-Calédonie – Le cas de la Société le Nickel / Principles of governance of a mining business and cultural realities : research of convergence in the service of performance

Machin, Justine 29 September 2015 (has links)
The struggles of legi timacy and of forces inter-community present in New Caledoniaare not simple to analyze both from a societal point of view that organizational. The development of working relationships between indigenous and expatriate teachers : a case study

Brown, Byron Alditon 01 January 2002 (has links)
The education reform efforts in Botswana have focused predominantly on teacher preparation, recruitment and compensation. Recruitment efforts have resulted in a significant number of expatriates working with indigenous teachers in many schools. However, as the schools are currently upgraded and restructured, the quality of the working relationships forged between indigenous and expatriate teachers represents one vital aspect in the reform effort that has gone almost unattended. Many teachers have become dissatisfied and concerned about these relationships, despite compensation and preparation. A decisive first step in attending to these relationships lies in understanding how they develop. The aim of this exploratory study was to identify and describe factors related to the development of working relationships between indigenous and expatriate teachers and illustrate how those factors contribute to the development of these relationships. The study employed a micropolitical perspective and through phenomenological interviews, observation and document analysis, indicated that cultural differences in language and communication, regard for time, handling of student discipline, work ethics and professionalism along with ambiguity and uncertainty, professional and interpersonal obligations, indigenous to expatriate teacher ratio and the interplay of micropolitics are related to the development of these relationships. Results, however, are specific to one school context and should not be generalized. The study recommends management strategies such as provision of programmes for cultural exchange, communication mode standardization, a dean of discipline system, faculty building and further research to redress the situation. / Further Teacher Education / M.Ed.

Assessing the accuracy of the growth in theoretical capability as predicted by the career path appreciation (CPA) 1 VS CPA 2

Kruger, Ester 17 October 2013 (has links)
The need for the identification and appropriate development of talent in organisations has led to a renewed interest in the accuracy of tools used in this context. The objectives of the study were to: (1) determine whether there is a significant difference in the growth in theoretical capability as predicted by Career Path Appreciation (CPA) 1 and CPA 2 among the sample population, (2) determine whether there is a significant difference in Mode as predicted by CPA 1 and CPA 2 among the sample population, and (3) formulate recommendations for Talent Management and Industrial and Organisational Psychology practices and future research. The CPA is a tool used for the selection and development of talent nationally and internationally. Limited recent test-retest research has been done regarding the utilisation of the CPA in this context. Scholars in the field of industrial psychology could therefore benefit from follow-up research regarding the validity and reliability of the CPA. The research design is an ex post facto correlational design using longitudinal data of a sample of convenience (N=527). Overall, the results indicated a significant correlation between CLC for CPA 1 and CPA 2 as well as between Mode for CPA 1 and CPA 2. The CPA as a measure of theoretical capability is consistently accurate between measures and can be used with confidence for the identification and development of talent within organisations. / Industrial & Organisational Psychology / M. No. of bitstreams: 1 Maria das Graças de Lima.pdf: 2064400 bytes, checksum: 98e77edd3b5bd6d7f53bf1379b0c7da0 (MD5) Previous issue date: 2017-04-24 / Conselho Nacional de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico - CNPq / This Research characterized as a case study and the subject of its investigation is the work relationship of two Empresas Recuperadas por Trabalhadores — ERTs (companies recuperated by workers): UNIFORJA E CONES. These companies were born from the bankruptcy of capitalist firms and became cooperatives that work under self-management system. The investigation and analysis aimed to understand to which extent these ERTs, after 20 years of existence, were or were not able to remain faithful to the self-management system. The investigation also tried to identify contradictions and ambiguities in the ERTs daily routines, as well as possibilities to overcome these contradictions, once the ERTs are embedded in the capitalist market, subdued by production logic and capital reproduction. The central point of this investigation is based on the principle of self-management as a radicality in the practice of direct democracy that seeks the meaning of its generalization in society as mean and end of the worker´s struggle against capitalism. What we found was the reproduction of capitalist work relationships mixed with a few innovations generated by attempts to remain faithful to the self-management principles. However, self-management is stumbling due to strongly hierarchical power relationships based on an egalitarian relation of duties and rights that does not promote equality of conditions and knowledge, does not develop new leadership, and does not form the workers’ critical conscience – not even the conscience of their condition as workers. Therefore, we can talk about a class division between the ERTs worker-partners based on income inequality, differentiated knowledge levels, the leaders’ ideological formation and work social division, all of which producing alienation. Our analysis corroborated our initial suspicion that, by using the same structures and models of production organization and work management, the ERTs put at risk the self-management practices. Our conclusions point towards the creation of a new model of production organization and work management based on the principles of self-management, democracy and equality, with the authentic participation of workers in every process of planning and organization of production and management, and aiming at overcoming alienated work. Based on the analysis of the objective and subjective conditions we found in the ERTs we researched and considering its ambiguities and contradictions generated by continuities and discontinuities in the processes of production organization and work management, we understand that the object of a new model of work relationships management is the effective participation of the workers in the work management, and the objective is to overcome the alienated work. Therefore, we finish by presenting a proposal to develop a New Model of Work Relationships Management, grounded in two axes: the development of Processes of Integral and Continuous Formation for the worker-partners and the creation of (or participation in) Networks of Solidarity / Esta pesquisa caracterizada como um estudo de caso, teve como objeto de investigação, as relações de trabalho em Empresas Recuperadas por Trabalhadores (ERTs): UNIFORJA E CONES.
