This master’s thesis examines the image of nature in Gabrielle Roy’s work, specifically in Alexandre Chenevert [1954], La Montagne secrète [1961] and Le Temps qui m’a manqué [1997]. More precisely, it seeks to understand the relationship that the characters have with nature – and its landscape –, the latter sometimes presenting itself as a revealing entity. This study therefore aims to grasp the circumstances in which it succeeds in revealing the knownand the unknown of life to the protagonists and to identify the repercussions of this newknowledge on them. This master’s thesis will attempt to answer this question by drawing ona phenomenological approach to landscape (Michel Collot and Maurice Merleau-Ponty) and on the recent work of researchers in the field of ecopoetics (Sara Buekens, Pierre Schoentjesand Julien Desrochers). The present research work proceeds to the concomitant analysis of three characters in three works of Gabrielle Roy, thus wishing to highlight the same transfiguring process set in motion by a landscape hermeneutic.

Le "pour de vrai" et le "vrai" en art performance : fiction vs trace / The "Like true" and the"True" in performance art : Fiction Vs TraceLagouarde, Clément 04 July 2018 (has links)
Performance art is a contemporary art is hard to define but which can be described as an action made an audience by a performance artist who, in contrast to the traditional theater, is the artist himself is inflicting sometimes real physical injuries. This art questions the 'like true' and the 'true' and seems less fictitious than traditional theater because blood’s physical injuries is 'true' and that he uses his trace as evidence (video recordings, sound recordings, photographs, objects, sketches, written, etc.). If the fiction and the trace seem opposed, because the first is an invention (the "like true") the other is a sustainable living action (the ' true') element, performance art then would think these two concepts not as opposites but as Horn related. As performance art, object of study here, presents his trail as a perennial element of a more or less invented action: as the 'true' including the border with the "like true" can be questioned. This thesis argues its assumptions through a comparative part between performance art and theatrical art, with as problematic fiction that seems opposite to 'true'. And a second consequential part on the possible "like true" of the trace, which allows the study of three epistemological traces : memory, writing, and trifle through respective examples of performance artists.

Previous issue date: 2008-03-31 / Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico / Firstly, I situate the environment and describe the activities of two public libraries
located at Vale do Paraíba, state of São Paulo, in the cities of Jacareí and São José dos
Campos. Their collections include, among many cultural series, Alexandre Dumas serial
novels.
Next, the author s works are mapped, based on the above-mentioned collections.
These works were translated and published in popular editions in Brazil, after the respective
narratives had circulated in several Brazilian newspapers. This stage is related to the
investigation of the constitutive and media processes of his works in the country. In this stage,
the following works are used: texts by Jean-Ives Mollier and Jacques Migozzi, among others,
which are included in the collection De l écrit à l écran (From writing to the screen); Roger
Chartier s works about books, reading and edition (Leitura e Leitores na França do Antigo
Regime / Reading and Readers in France at the time of the Ancien Régime, A Ordem do Livro
/ The Order of the Book, A Aventura do Livro / The Book Adventure); Jerusa Pires Ferreira s
works on publishers and popular editions ( La Maison João do Rio ); and Brazilian authors
who deal with the theme of reading and reception, like Márcia Abreu, Nelson Schapochnik,
Marisa Lajolo, among others (the collections Leitura, História e História da Leitura no
Brasil/Reading, History and the History of Reading in Brazil and Cultura Letrada no Brasil/
Literate Culture in Brazil). From the point of view of the history of the serial novel, the works
Folhetim (Serial Novel), Caminhos do Imaginário (Mental Imagery Paths) and other texts by
Marlyse Meyer offer important conceptual questions referring to the subject.
To analyze the set of covers designed by Nico Rosso to Dumas novels of Coleção
Saraiva (Saraiva Collection), a production in tune with the context of an emerging mass
culture and with the popular book industry in Brazil, in this period, I used Charles Grivel s
text Le passage à l écran (The passage to the screen) about hybrid literatures, and his work
The aims of this research study are: to investigate the insertion and effects of the
European literature of wide circulation in Brazil, through the inventory of Alexandre Dumas
popular books; to build a panorama of the phenomenon of this adaptation universe and its
implications; to observe editing processes and materials regarding this genre in Brazil, based
on the collections of the public libraries of Vale do Paraíba, in São Paulo.
The dissertation compares the recurrence of certain stereotyped themes that are
recreated in the popular mental imagery and social inter-classes. Thus, it investigates narrative
and fictional materials that came from Europe and were projected through the 19th, 20th and
even the 21st centuries, in successive adaptations that maintain an inter-semiotic discourse in
interaction.
This study confirms that Dumas romances remained being read in the form of books
in Brazil during the entire 20th century, after many of them left the foot of newspapers pages.
The work was being intensely published during the period of the launch and dissemination of
television among us (in the 1950s). It co-existed with the development of the cinema here and
continues to be read in Internet times / Primeiro, situo o ambiente, bem como descrevo as atividades de duas bibliotecas
ampla circulação, no Brasil, através do inventário dos livros populares de Alexandre Dumas;
popular e interclasses sociais.

Trends in radical propaganda on the eve of the French Revolution (1782-1788)Darnton, Robert Choate January 1964 (has links)
The pamphleteers popularized the mythology of despotism by denouncing lettres de cachet and other supposed abuses of power that had little effect on most people. Historians like Funck-Brentano may be correct in arguing that the government was really moderate at this time, but it is important to show that radical propagandists were quite successful in convincing Frenchmen that thousands of innocent victims huddled miserably in <em >cachots for having inflamed the despotic passions of a minister. Moreover the prisons that were mythological for most Frenchmen had been terribly real for Brissot, Carra, Gorsas and many other writers, and this consideration also suggests the importance of the biographical approach. The Bastille may have been nearly empty, but it was a powerful symbol, effectively exploited by pamphleteers who dealt in symbols, declamation and distortions of political realities. They were highly successful in dominating public opinion, which exerted an influence on events that has been unappreciated in relation to the weak, irresolute rule of Louis XVI. The thesis attempts to develop this interprettion of the political importance of radical propaganda with reference to the scientific, financial and literary history of the period. It may seem weak on some ponts of these specialized fields, but it is hoped that it assimilates them successfully in its main attempt to contribute to an understanding of the last years of the Ancien Regime: its analysis of the character of radical propaganda in relation to the men who created it.

J.-C.) : représentations et réalités / The Elite's Intellectual Training in Rome and in the Western World in the Early Empire : representation and realityDallies, Marie 05 December 2013 (has links)
The political and intellectual upheavals caused by the advent of Augustus’ Principate result, in the Early Empire, in a new definition of the aims and functions assigned to the intellectual training of the Roman and Western elite. The development of judiciary and epidictic eloquence at the expense of political eloquence modifies traditional rhetorical teaching whereas philosophical learning is gaining importance within society thus favouring the teaching itself of philosophy. These changes bring several 100 and 200 A.D. authors to reflect upon the way of improving rhetorical and philosophical teaching. Meanwhile various initiatives are taken to spread these forms of knowledge throughout the Empire. By focusing on those who are in charge of the educational system – teachers and students – our research offers to examine how intellectual training develops in the Latin speaking regions in the Early Empire and to draw a map of rhetorical and philosophical teaching while getting to know these characters concretely through the study of their geographical and social backgrounds together with their mobility. Such realistic aspect goes with a survey of the representations of the two groups in imperial literature. Emphasis is laid in particular on the question of the education of the future emperors the documentation of whose lives is rich in order to examine whether the description of their education is altered by the memory that remains of their reign.
