Upplevelser och stöd för nyanlända elever i matematik : - En intervjustudie med nyanlända elever / Experiences and support for newly arrived students in mathematics : - An interview study with newly arrived students

Yousef, Ahmad January 2021 (has links)
The purpose of my exam thesis in advanced level is that I formed a perception about what difficulties newly arrived students encounter in mathematics. What I also formed is a perception about how I can complete those difficulties. This is done for newly arrived students in order to finally increase their opportunities to develop in their learning and also for teachers, how to behave and react to help their newly arrived students. To answer the purpose, I started with a research overview. The research overview below served as an aid and guideline during the course of the work. “What different types of difficulties do newly arrived students experience in relation to mathematics”. What I also have done is conducted an information search using keywords that are combined in different ways in different databases about scaffolding benefits for newly arrived students, which I discussed later on with the results I got.   To answer my purpose, I implemented qualitative interviews with newly arrived students around the age 15 and 16 in a school that is located in Malmo, Sweden. The work has a phenomenological approach, which has contributed to experiences being the focus of the collection and processing of materials. The results show that newly arrived students' experiences of mathematics are different. Students that didn't get any extra help have a hard time learning math in school while students who get extra help from either family or classmates have it easier. Newly arrived students developed their mathematic and Swedish skills when they were taught and assisted in their first language during class and tasks, however that method was not used a lot by their teachers. Students who had family helping them or students who speak the same language feel less lonely in school than students who didn't have anything. Same difficulties are found in the Swedish language, in which the newly arrived students described how math is a universal language, but some math problems require Swedish language, therefore they are connected.

Muratovic, Razija January 2019 (has links)
Reception of newly arrived students - an interview study on inclusionThe increased number of newly arrived pupils put the Swedish school under pressure. Previous research shows various organizational models and highlights the difficulty with inclusion. The purpose of my study is to investigate how the inclusion of newly arrived pupils that take place, based on their different organizational models and in witch way inclusion take place. The empirical material consists with interviews. The study results show that there are advantages to the preparation of class and how inclusion can be remedied. The study is viewed from the teachers' perspective. Furthermore, the result shows that the teachers' attitude, competence and, above all, the relationship with the students is crucial for creating an inclusive education. It is up to the schools themselves to decide which organizational model should be applied. For further research, a research interest that focus on examining newly arrived pupils' perspectives, about the preparation classes has been developed.

Röllgårdh, Ellen January 2016 (has links)
The thesis seeks to examine how newly arrived students are welcomed and introduced to the Swedish school system in Uppsala municipality. When organizing the structure of integrating immigrant children, municipalities in Sweden use different models. Depending on the model, different values are favored such as integration/segregation and collectivism/individualism.  Through interviews and textual analysis the model used in Uppsala is studied as an example of how municipalities choose to organize the structure around newly arrived students. The results show that the ambition in the organization in Uppsala is to actively use integration promoting arrangement in their every day work as well as they’re aiming to find individual solutions for each and everyone. The reality, however, reflects a lack of awareness about to what extent individual arrangements are in fact carried out and the special needs an immigrant child might have in comparison to other children. The mere existence of the school unit LYSA, which is responsible for children who have not yet received a placement in one of the permanent schools in the city, is also a drawback in achieving the ambition of the municipality, as LYSA is a separate unit that makes integration harder.

Lisell, Charlotte January 2016 (has links)
This study examines to get an increased understanding and knowledge of pre-schools teachers experience about newly arrived families in the Swedish pre-school.By using semi-structured, qualitative interviews with some working educators in a pre-school with many new arrived children, I have examined how they experience the meeting of new arrived families in the Swedish pre-school.The result shows they experience the meeting as exciting and educational but also complex. To avoid a clash of cultures the teachers for pre-school needs to develop and adapt the pre-school. It´s important to look on the pre-school like a place for integration for the new arrived families consider the respondents in the study. The teachers also try to work with influence and participation from different cultures. The study will connect with which rights contained in the pre-school curriculum for children and parents to affect the pre-school.

Arbetslöshetens inverkan på nyanlända : En studie om eftergymnasialt utbildade nyanländas upplevelser av arbetslöshet / Unemployments impact on newly arrived : A study of post-secondary educated newly arrivals experiences of unemployment

Yenigun, Cigdem January 2016 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to examine mental health in relation to unemployment among newly arrived with post-secondary education. This was to get a deeper understanding about their experiences regarding unemployment despite their high education, the focus was on mental health and how they think their future looks like. The method used for the following study was an empirical qualitative method in which the author used the semi-structured interviews. Five participants were interviewed, four men and one woman between the ages 20-64. The results of this study found that newly arrived people with post-secondary education had poor mental health because of worries about the future. They also felt that the education they had received from their country was a waste in Sweden. These people also had a temporary residence permit which brought frustration because their future wasn’t secure. The conclusion of this study was that newly arrived individuals with post-secondary education wanted Psychological help from the society so they could start working.

"Arbetet med nyanlända elever ger mig erfarenhet" : En intervjustudie med sex lärare om nyanlända elevers måluppfyllelse i svenska som andraspråk Författare / "Working with newly arrived pupils gives me experience" : An interview study with six teachers about how newly arrived pupils achieve the goals in Swedish as a second language

Erlandsson, Daniella, Lindström, Jennica January 2016 (has links)
Abstract The aim of the study is to investigate how class teachers and Swedish L2 teachers perceive their work with recently arrived immigrant pupils in grades F to 3. Six teachers were interviewed about how they teach so that these pupils will achieve the target skills in Swedish as a second language in grade 3, and about their view of the integration of newly arrived pupils in the ordinary class and the preparatory class. In the study the teachers say that they lack shared guidelines for receiving newly arrived pupils and that the charting of the pupils is inadequate. The teachers prefer direct placement in the ordinary class because the pupils learn from others and improve in their zone of proximal development. The informants feel that they have sufficient training to teach newly arrived pupils and that working with them contributes to their professional development. The results of the study indicate that development-based teaching can benefit newly arrived pupils. The teachers say that they teach many words and concepts and use concrete material.

“What you have experienced and how I can treat you and see you in the best possible way. That´sa lot what it is about when two people meet like this, face to face” : Midwives experience of meeting with newly arrived women in northern Sweden.

Cedering, Signe, Emilsson, Julia January 2016 (has links)
Objective: The aim of the study was to explore from a transcultural perspective, how midwives within Swedish maternity care units experienced meetings with newly arrived women. Methods: A qualitative interview study was conducted with six midwives in northern Sweden and analyzed with the help of content analysis. Nine subcategories, three categories and one theme emerged. Results: The results of the project were summarized in three categories: Midwifes balance between the personal and professional commitment in the meeting with newly arrived women. Language barriers and time constraints provide other conditions which may affect care and The fusion of different cultures was appreciated but contributes to clashes in the encounter between midwifes and newly arrived women. The majority of these midwives expressed a desire to work with these women and actively sought ways to develop their skills. Conclusion: Cultural differences affect the meeting between midwives and newly arrived women. Newly arrived women does not have the same opportunity to benefit from healthcare and may be at greater risk for illness. There is a great need for professional interpreters in Sweden. More education, time and resources would probably ease the midwives' frustration and increase the health benefits for newly arrived women.

Information Literacy of Older Newly Arrived People

Ramthan, Hekmat Ali January 2016 (has links)
The aim of this bachelor thesis is to explore the information literacy of newly arrived people and to obtain knowledge about how they are looking for important information. The research questions are as follows: How do newly arrived people access information in the new society? What strategies do they use to overcome the difficulties/obstacles?How do newly arrived people learn about being information literate? Previous research has examined the importance of information literacy of newly arrived people and discussed how they are looking for important information. In this work, in order to gain an empirical insight, semi-structured interviews were conducted with seven women from Syria. The timeframe for the collection of this empirical data was more than two months. The results conveyed that the ‘newly arrived people’ are looking for important information by friends, relatives and social network. Said individuals have a tendancy to spend copious amounts of time to gain reliable and relevant information. Likewise, newly arrived people are in need of more support which would require further facilitation when entering into the labour market and integrating into society. The analysis also provided traits of newly arrived people needing more support and help learning about information literacy. What can be concluded, is that the newly arrived people did not have enough knowledge about library instructions when offering services. Among other issues, the results showed a great interest in culture, as well as an ambition to learn language and more about society, especially the new arrivals whom are looking for jobs despite the fact that they have been in the country for a short period.

Shamoun, Ranja, Ciliz, Alexandra January 2017 (has links)
The aim is to study the newly arrived pupils'participation in the preparatory class (FBK) and regular class and how teachers support the newly arrived pupilsin the classroom for three daysat each school. The study is based on a qualitative method with three observations at each school. Observations in two different schools, one in a preparation class and the other one in a regular class. Our study showed that the newly arrived pupils in the preparation class had more chance to participate, learn and develop with the help of the teachers. On the other hand, the newly arrived pupils had less participation in the regular class and did not get as much help from the teachers as the other newly arrived pupils got in the preparation class.
