Mediální výchova - začlenění do výuky jazyků a učební materiály pro výuku angličtiny / Media education - incorporation into language education and teaching materials for teachers of English

Oršošová, Lenka January 2011 (has links)
Messages delivered by the media are often used as a source of authentic texts in language teaching, yet there is not a sufficient amount of works dealing with the connection between media education and language teaching. The theoretical part of this thesis, therefore, tries to describe this relationship from the perspective of media studies, linguistics and language teaching methodology. The aim of this work is to create teaching materials incorporating media education into teaching English as a foreign language. The materials consist of worksheets for students and methodological support for teachers. Key words media education, language teaching, authentic text, context, curricular documents, teaching materials, worksheets, methodological support

La production écrite en droit : analyse linguistique et propositions didactiques / Writing in law : linguistic analysis and didactic proposals

Harb, Hiba 12 December 2017 (has links)
The international mobility of students who wish to pursue higher education in France or abroad has been increasing for several years. This movement continues to create specific demands that universities are called upon to meet by adapting their programs to the new demands of teaching and learning French. This is the reason why the domain of the French as Foreign Language has evolved, giving birth to new approaches to teaching the French language, among which the French for Academic Purpose. Our research problem is in line with this point of view insofar as it concerns the foreign non-francophone and Arabic-speaking students enrolled in Law majors in France. Our analysis of the exam copies of these students shows that they have many difficulties in linguistic and pragmatic in writing. In addition, the answers on the survey that we have distributed to this audience of learners highlights their writing practices, and allows us to provide educational solutions adapted to the difficulties encountered, which is the main objective of our research . In addition to the problem of written production, we propose ways to promote interaction between students, teachers and professionals in the field of law.

A canção popular autêntica aplicada ao processo de ensino-aprendizagem da língua alemã como língua estrangeira / The authentic pop music applied the process of teaching-learning of the german language as a foreign language

Zachariadis, Carin Beatriz Carreira 17 October 2008 (has links)
The application of songs as class room activity, aiming at the measurement of their influence, presumed positive, on the pupils learning process of foreign languages, is the main goal of this study. From the literature review one concludes that songs are considered useful foreign language teaching tools. Nevertheless, there is a lack of measurements showing how effectively music influences the learning process. Text books usually present songs which are deliberately composed for teaching purposes. Considering 13-14 year old students, an authentic song, and thus motivating since it brings up young peoples concerns, was selected. Prior to the choice, Parnitzkes (1997) definition of authentic song was presented and discussed. Among the universe of authentic songs, the so called pop music was chosen, as it meets young peoples expectations. Pop song is understood as a sung tune with an integrated structure of music and language which composes a unity. Its melody is easily sung and memorized, its intonation and rhythm are guided by the lyrics. It comprises songs that are mass orientated and broadcast. The song selection process began with a questionnaire completed by young German students aged like the ones considered in this research, followed by the definition of the learning goal and of the choice criteria proposed by Setzer (2003), among others. The learning goal was focused on the identification of German language characteristic vocal phonemes which are absent in the Portuguese language spoken in Brasil, aiming at the improvement of listening comprehension skills. Four groups of students were considered, one of which was the control group that did not have contact with the song, and in order to measure the learning progress on the phonemes, the students did one dictation prior to and after the song activity. An analysis of the errors made by the students on both dictations showed that, excepting the students of the control group, there was an improvement in their listening comprehension skills, measured by the reduction of spelling mistakes. According to this, one confirms that the song is an important foreign language learning tool

The corpus under analysis has consisted of the observation of a group of adult students linguistical behavior in English as a foreign language classes within a 12 months ́ period of time. The programme content has been elaborated in such a way that dynamic activities should take place and provide the subjects ́ interaction, that is, the researcher and teacher on one side and the students, on the other side, as the participant group. The purpose has been to analyze students intercultural abilities on the basis of research-action methodology. Intercultural pieces of reality from Western countries, as well as the emphasis on multicultural thought, have been presented to the students. The technique adopted to introduce distinct intercultural pieces of reality has used authentic material and the criterion has involved themes related to politics, economics and creative thinking. Observation of the students linguistical behavior has resulted in subcategories such as generalization, which has been analyzed under the parameter of foreign language teaching as the third space.

Enseignement de la communication non verbale par la vidéo authentique en classe de FLE en Libye / Teaching non-verbal communication by the authentic video in class of FFL in Libya

Miqil, Salem 12 December 2016 (has links)
Referring to the communication to the expression of a vast universe of beliefs and behaviors that are expressed interactively and / or non-interactively, thanks to sensitive and / or intelligible systems. When these beliefs and behaviors, and their forms of expression, are shared by a group of people, we are facing the concept of culture. Thus, foreign students must acquire the essential skills that will enable them to communicate with people of another culture : they will then know, understand and, if possible, acquire all of the information characterizing this culture, that is their verbal and non-verbal activities, their beliefs and communication systems. Nonverbal communication is a vast field within the cultural system of communication, concerning all signs and linguistic signs systems that are used to communicate. The importance of the integration of signs and systems incorporating non-verbal communication in the curricula of FFL (French as a Foreign Language) is reported and included in the European Framework of Reference for Languages : learning, teaching, assessing (Council of Europe, 2001). In the chapter about the use of language, the CEFRL recommends taking into account the skills that students must acquire concerning the actions and gestures used with words (verbal and nonverbal communication), and the situations in which the students will have to implement these skills. Furthermore, it is stated that foreign language learners must be able to identify, recognize and understand the behaviors of paralinguistic, gestural, proxemics and facial expressions of the target language (Council of Europe, 2001: 72-73). The main objective of this study is to select non-verbal signs in the broadest sense for the application to the teaching and learning of the FFL for a Libyan public. In the classroom, these elements can be introduced using video documents representing authentic situations so that learners can observe non-verbal signs and re-use them correctly when intercultural contacts

Analyzing Young Readers' Empathetic Responses to a Mexican American Historical Narrative

Rivera, Yvette 01 December 2017 (has links)
Empathy and cultural understanding of groups that are marginalized due to religious, ethnic or sexual background is essential for peace in schools, neighborhoods, and society at large. Literacy classrooms can be a safe environment in which students can develop their own understandings and empathies. Although worthwhile, much of the research lacks details of student reactions to the people and cultures read about in historical narratives, as well as a focus on pedagogical practices that could give students a deep understanding of the culture. This study analyzed the empathetic responses of 13 sixth grade students to themes presented in a Mexican American narrative text, The Circuit. The purpose of this study was to understand the nature of student empathy and how empathetic responses reflect a rich historical and visual context. Key data sources of this interpretive study included large group discussions, small group discussions, written journal responses, and interviews. The results of this study indicated that students' empathetic responses are varied and complex and seem to reflect familiarity with topics in the text and personal background. Minimizing the cognitive demand of cultural content seemed to be a key pedagogical factor in helping students reach deeper levels of empathy. Suggestions are given for educators looking to teach empathy through cultural texts. Possible areas of research are recommended.

Alternative assessment in primary years of international baccalaureate education

Wikström, Nermina January 2008 (has links)
The purpose of this study is to determine what alternative forms of assessments are being practiced in a public school with an international programme and to explore the teachers` attitudes towards the use of alternative assessment procedures. Various assessment models and strategies have been investigated and discussed, as pre¬senting a part of the educational practice in the primary classrooms that engage the International Baccalaureate/ Primary Years Programme at the elementary school level (age range 6-11) in the years 0-5. While defining my research problem, I have started from hypothesis that practicing of alternative assessment has an important positive role in the international schools supporting, promoting and improving student learning. International schools are facing both challenging and complexity of assessment pro¬cess while striving to apply both national and international programs` recom¬menda¬tions concerning the testing. Alternative forms of assessments are being used in conjunction with other forms of assessment, such as standardised tests, in order to assess both student perfor¬mance and the intentions of the International Baccalaureate/ Primary Years Pro¬gramme. This paper investigates what alternative assessment practices (portfolio, perfor¬mance assessment, Exhibition, self-assessment) are being applied and used in the same school where the standardised tests are also being applied and used (text book tests, teacher-made tests, local and national test). The hypothesis was supported and the study findings suggest that various types of assessments are needed to be utilized in order to fairly evaluate students` needs as well as that alternative assessment has an important positive role meeting individual student’s needs supporting a process of learning.

Kyller, Carola, Abedini, Mehrnaz January 2013 (has links)
