KONTEXT. I takt med att Internets framväxt och fler och fler människor ansluter sig till sociala medieplattformar som Facebook, uppkommer nya sätt att interagera och kommunicera mellan varandra. Samtidigt ökar antalet organisationer och företag, som i sin tur måste hitta nya vägar för att deras marknadsföring ska sticka ut och bli uppfattad. För att nå ut till målgruppen med budskap, måste organisationen vara där målgruppen är. Därför har Facebook blivit en ny del av företags marknadsföringsredskap. Denna studie är fokuserad på Malmö stadsbiblioteks användning av Facebook som ett kommunikationsverktyg i hanteringen av kundkontakter. MÅL. Syftet med denna magisteruppsats är att undersöka Malmö stadsbiblioteks användning av Facebook, med ett huvudsakligt fokus på undperception och kundens upplevelse av kommunikationen, för att utreda hur Malmö stadsbibliotek bör använda Facebook i marknadsföringssyfte. METOD. Denna studie är baserad på en empirisk undersökning innehållandes en innehållsanalys av Malmö stadsbiblioteks Facebooksida, och också en onlineenkät gjord på de som ”gillar” och följer Facebooksidan. RESULTAT. Resultatet av den empiriska studien visar att Malmö stadsbibliotek står inför en bred målgrupp där segmentering är nödvändigt för att skapa och sprida rätt budskap till den primära målgruppen. Malmö stadsbibliotek publicerar statusuppdateringar relativt jämnt fördelat på månadens dagar och det är möjligt att peka ut olika kategorier av uppdateringar med olika målgruppsresponser och upplevelser från följarna. Resultatet av studien presenteras som diagram och tabeller med beskrivningar för att förbättra illustrationen och därför öka förståelsen. SLUTSATS. Slutsatsen av denna magisteruppsats är att de flesta respondenterna är positiva inför Malmö stadsbiblioteks användning av Facebook. Baserat på diverse befintliga teorier är marknadsföring på sociala nätverk ett bra sätt att interagera, kommunicera och få feedback från kunder för att kunna bygga goda relationer med kunderna. Detta är någonting som är väldigt viktigt i nuläget när antalet företag och reklambruset är så högt som det är. Det finns ingen enkel väg till framgång, med enbart en korrekt väg. Det är beroende av varje specifik organisation och deras specifika primärmålgrupp.

Syftet med undersökningen är att synliggöra barns och vuxnas uppfattning om barnboken. Vi vill få kunskap om vad föräldrar, pedagoger och bibliotekarier har för roll genom att delge barn den kunskap och det innehåll som barnboken ger. När viss undersökning visar att barnbokslån går ner och annan undersökning visar att barnboken är viktig för barn, både språkligt och socialt, vill vi sätta detta i fokus. Metoden grundar sig på kvalitativa studier genom enkäter med intervjufrågor till föräldrar, pedagoger och kommunens bibliotekarie samt intervjuer av barn på våra arbetsplatser. Undersökningen sätter vi i perspektiv till våra styrdokument Läroplanen för förskolan 1998 samt literatur vi anser relevant för vårt examensarbete. Slutsatsen vi har dragit av genomförda undersökningar är att pedagoger och föräldrar samt biblioteken har ett stort ansvar när det gäller barnboken och varför den behövs. Det finns olika vägar att gå för att väcka barns intresse och hur vi gör är upp till varje vuxen att ta beslut om - huvudsaken är att vi läser för barn. Detta har framförallt den teoretiska delen styrkt. Ju mer vi läser för barn, både som pedagog och förälder, ju mer ger vi till barnen både socialt och språkligt.

Contemporary libraries face challenges in transforming their organization to meet the digitalized society. To develop the process of digitization of literature is a natural way for libraries to go when they already have more visitors online than physically. Since the demand for digital material is so sought after, we feel challenged to address the challenges of the Internet as an emerging functional medium for distributing knowledge. These developments will be able to significantly modify the nature of literature as well as the existing system of quality assurance. In this study, we explored and analyzed a digitization project at a research library. We have also examined the relationship between digitization process and its different elements. To view at such a problem from a system-theoretical approach enables boundaries, where we could create a mental model that is useful for our case and us. By originate from a maximum theoretical flow based on the hardware, we hope to see the stages of the process that do not achieve the same capacity as the hardware. To accomplish this and to get a detailed understanding we used a qualitative approach, where we have conducted observations and combined it with participant’s interviews from the examined library.

The study explores the amount of books and other media containing LGBT themes available and the activities aimed towards LGBT people in Swedish public libraries. A comparison was also made between libraries with a LGBT-certification and a study of the librarians' opinions about the certification and their work with LGBT-issues. This is done through a survey sent to a sample of Swedish public libraries and all libraries with a LGBT-certification. The results show that media stocks and activities directed toward LGBT people is relatively small, the work of the LGBT-certified library was on average larger. The librarians were generally positive about the activities towards LGBT people but felt that these activities should be expanded.

This thesis aims to investigate how librarians work with acquisitions of multilingual literature and how their work has changed due to the European refugee crisis. In this study four main librarians with a special responsibility for this type of acquisitions have been interviewed. The questions were created to explore their experiences of changes, difficulties and existing qualifications. The study uses a new theoretical model, inspired by Evans and Saponaros’ (2005) “Collection development process”, to illustrate how librarians create relevant collections. Since the model was not enough, Andrew Abbott´s theoretical conception “External sources for system change” was added. The conception completed the model, since the study’s aim also included changes. The findings were that all librarians had identified changes in their work with acquisitions of literature. For example, they all pointed out language barriers and difficulties locating literature as the most palpable factors. All respondents found that the library’s purpose was to reflect the societal needs, which constantly change. Another challenge was therefore that the librarians constantly needed to redirect the way they worked with collection development, since the users and their needs aren’t always the same. Another finding was that collaboration between libraries and/or other institutions may become more common. Sharing of knowledge seems to be a necessity since the challenges are of different natures. They are not something foreign or unexpected, but they might require the libraries to ally in order to bring these tests to a soluble level.

There are many research studies about integration processes but none about user education for immigrants. The aim of this Bachelor´s thesis is to examine how a library in Sweden contributes to the integration of immigrants and how user education for immigrants, organized by the library, is experienced by librarians and students. Diaz theory of five different ways to study integration is applied to the material concerning students’ and librarians’ experiences of user education. Students want more extensive choice of literature in their native language and even more information about Swedish society. The librarians believe they can help immigrants even more in their integration process, but it is difficult because of the limited resources. The students also request activities that can be useful when seeking employment. From the interviews, we can see that the library is working mostly with the social and subjective integration, while they don’t work so much with housing integration.

The aim of this thesis is to deepen our knowledge of librarians' experiences of working with projects. Focus is on the characteristics of successful projects implemented in public libraries and how they are assimilated into the regular and ordinary activities of the library. A grounded theory approach is adopted and complemented with theory on learning and change in organizations and from new public management. The study is based on semi-structured qualitative interviews with five librarians. The result reveals that librarians enjoy working in projects. The possibility of being able to develop new teaching tools, create new relationships and to form new network alliances between library, schools, associations and the business community increase the librarians' motivation to initiate new projects. Successful projects are defined by number of participants, cost efficiency, the opportunity to create new knowledge. Project inclusion in regular programs in libraries usually an objective and is likely to be pre-planned in advance.

Det är vanligt förekommande att förskolor lånar bilderböcker från bibliotek. Jag vill därför i denna studie analysera ett biblioteks utbud av bilderböcker som har huvudkaraktär med mörk  hudfärg. Syftet är att ifrågasätta och belysa om det finns en vithetsnorm i bibliotekets utbud  av bilderböcker. Därefter analyseras de böcker med huvudkaraktärer som har mörk hudfärg  för att se om det finns ett “vi” och “dem” eller om någon karaktär ses som “den andre” som  innebär att något eller någon avviker från normen. Syftet är också att se till vilka  genusföreställningar, stereotyper som är synliga och om karaktärer eller platser representeras  olika baserat på var boken geografiskt utspelas. Studien görs utifrån metoden narrativ  dekonstruktion som innebär att analysen görs utifrån binära oppositioner olika motsatspar  med en hierarkisk maktordning. Teorierna som används tillsammans med metoden är  postkolonial teori och ett normkritiskt perspektiv. Ett schema med motsatspar har gjorts  utifrån ett postkolonialt och normkritiskt perspektiv som används i analysen av de utvalda  bilderböckerna. 1560 bilderböcker granskades och endast 26 av 1560 böcker hade  huvudkaraktärer med mörk hudfärg. I majoriteten av böckerna oavsett geografisk plats så är  mönstret att det inte finns tydliga “vi” och “dem” synliga i böckerna. Det poängteras oftast  inte ut att något skulle vara främmande eller avvikande bara i enstaka böcker. I böckerna som  utspelas i Sverige och i Afrika finns exempel på urbana och lantliga miljöer. Det finns fler  lantliga miljöer i böckerna som utspelas i Afrika och i samtliga böcker finns boskapsdjur  vilket inte är lika vanligt i böckerna som utspelades i Sverige. Några av böckerna ger en  föreställning av att Afrika är fattigt eller outvecklat. Det finns fler normativa  genusföreställningar i böckerna som utspelas i Afrika. Gemenskapen är mer påtaglig i de  afrikanska miljöerna än i de svenska. Ensamhet är synlig i böckerna som utspelades i Sverige  men inte i de böcker som utspelas i Afrika. I alla böcker finns variation av utseenden,  personligheter, handlingar, miljöer och normer vilket är en förutsättning för att  diskriminerande stereotyper inte ska skapas (Said 1978).

The central public library in Gothenburg offers videogames for its patrons to play in house. This service is very popular among boys and young men. A lot of patrons in the videogame section of the library choose to spend their time there without gaming and rather to read or spend time with friends. This thesis aims to examine what exactly it is that attracts people to this gaming section of the library, why they do not choose to simply play games in their homes instead, and why the games mostly attract boys and not girls even though there is research that shows that at least one third of Swedish gamers are female. The study was made using short and focused semistructured interviews with the patrons of the gaming section. Patrons were asked while entering or leaving the gaming sections if they could spare a few minutes to answer some questions. 21 people gave useful interviews. The results show that there is another kind of atmosphere to the videogame section than to the rest of the library that attracts young people. The social aspect of gaming in a public area is very attractive to most of the visiting gamers, and it is the same social aspect that dissuades some of the female gamers from partaking in the games. The people who use the game stations in the area are mainly boys and young men who already have access to gaming equipment in their homes, but choose to play in the library for the social aspect of gaming.

Denna uppsats har till syfte att studera kampanjen ”Bibliotek mot rasism”som genomfördes i fyra olika biblioteksregioner i Sverige från 2014 till 2016. Med intervjuer som metod och inramningsteori som analytiskt verktyg har kampanjen kartlagts och studiens syfte är att se hur kampanjen utvecklades över tid och hur kampanjen kan ställas i relation till bibliotekens demokratiska uppdrag. Empirin för studien utgörs främst av intervjuer med två bibliotekarier och två bibliotekskonsulenter som var engagerade i arbetet kring kampanjen. Utöver detta kompletteras informanternas utsagor med kampanjdokument såsom manifest och interna styrdokument. Utifrån inramningsteorins begrepp kan kampanjens framväxt och utveckling förstås som en process. Med dessa begrepp som utgångspunkt kan det argumenteras för att en diskursförändring i samhället påverkade kampanjens så kallade åtgärdsramar medföljd att kampanjen bytte inriktning och sedan försvann från folkbiblioteken. Beroende vad som tolkas in i skrivelser att bibliotek ska vara neutrala syftar uppsatsen till att reda ut om kampanjen bör ses som politisk eller på annat sätt utanför bibliotekens uppdragsbeskrivning
