Från teori till praktik: UI/UXförbättringar på Flygresor.se : Förstå och implementera effektiva UI-designprinciper för bättre engagemang ochanvändarupplevelse

Detta examensarbete undersöker optimering av användargränssnitt (UI) för att förbättra användarupplevelsen (UX) på sista-minuten biljettsidan på Flygresor.se, enwebbplats för flygjämförelser. Det huvudsakliga målet var att förbättra användarnasengagemang och tillfredsställelse genom implementering av effektiva UI/UX-designprinciper. Med hjälp av en litteraturstudie, semistrukturerade intervjuer och iterativ prototypframställning, identifierar denna studie viktiga UI/UX-förbättringar.Prototyper utvecklades och förbättrades dels baserat på lärdomar från litteraturstudien, men framförallt på feedback från deltagare i semi-strukturerade intervjuermed fokus på navigering, läsbarhet och användarvänlighet. Studien visar den betydande inverkan av genomtänkt UI/UX-design på deltagarnas tillfredsställelse ochlyfter fram praktiska rekommendationer för UI-förbättringar. Resultaten betonarnödvändigheten av kontinuerliga uppdateringar av användargränssnittet och potentialen hos användarcentrerade tillvägagångssätt i verkliga applikationer för att förbättra användares engagemang och operativ framgång. / This thesis investigates the optimization of user interfaces (UI) for enhancing userexperiences (UX), particularly focusing on the last-minute ticket page of the flightcomparison website Flygresor.se. The core objective is to improve user engagementand satisfaction through the implementation of effective UI/UX design principles.Using a literature study, semi-structured interviews and iterative prototyping thisresearch identifies key UI/UX improvements. Prototypes were developed and refined partly based on insights gained through the literature review, but prominentlyon feedback from participants in semi-structured interviews, focusing on navigability, readability, and interaction efficiency. The study highlights the significant impactof thoughtful UI/UX design on participants satisfaction and highlights practical recommendations for UI enhancements. The findings emphasize the necessity of continuous UI updates and the potential of user-centric approaches in real-world applications to improve user engagement and operational success.

Skräddarsy ditt bokningssystem för bättre användarvänlighet : Från en förenings perspektiv

This work was conducted with the intention of designing and developing a purpose-built booking system for the non-profit organization E-town Gaming. The purpose of the project is to develop a user friendly and purpose-made system to fulfill the associations specific needs and demands, to manage and administer bookings to a LAN event. Further on the goal was to answer the research questions about what disadvantages there is with premade booking systems and how you can improve the user experience with the principles from the book “Don’t Make Me Think.” To answer the questions a literature review, interview study and user tests was conducted. The results from the literature study identified important design principles to achieve user friendliness. The interview study with a person that had used the old booking system highlighted problems with the premade system and the user test decided if the implementation of the design principles from the book improved the user experience of the tool. From the collected data the system got designed and developed to book seats for a LAN event. The system provides functionality to manage user registration, choice of seat, form with personal information and confirmation of booking. The work showed that the implementation of design principles from the book improved the user experience. The users experienced the system as more clear, easier to use and more intuitive. From the interview problems such as support, cost and functionality were highlighted. / Detta arbete är utfört med avsikt att designa och utveckla ett anpassat bokningssystem för den ideella föreningen E-town Gaming. Syftet med arbetet var att utveckla ett användarvänligt och skräddarsytt system som uppfyller föreningens specifika krav och behov för att hantera bokningar till ett LAN evenemang. För att sedan besvara forskningsfrågorna om vilka nackdelar som finns med färdiga bokningssystem och hur man kan öka användarvänligheten med designprinciper från boken ”Don’t Make Me Think”. För att besvara frågorna utfördes en litteraturstudie, intervjustudie och användartester. Resultaten från litteraturstudien identifierade viktiga designprinciper för att uppnå användarvänlighet. Intervjustudien med en användare av det tidigare bokningsverktyget lyfte fram nackdelar med befintliga färdigutvecklade system och användartesterna bidrog till att hitta förbättringsområden i den egna prototypen och avgjorde om implementering av designprinciperna från boken förbättrade användarvänligheten av verktyget. Utifrån insamlade data designades och utvecklades ett nytt bokningssystem för bokning av platser till ett LAN event. Systemet tillhandahåller funktionalitet för användarregistrering, val av plats, formulär för personlig information och bekräftelse av bokning. Arbetet visade att implementeringen av designprinciper från boken förbättrade användarupplevelsen. Användarna upplevde systemet som tydligare, enklare att navigera och mer intuitivt. Från Intervjun lyftes många problemområden med ett färdigt bokningsverktyg som support, kostnad och funktionalitet.

Factors contributing to late booking amongst pregnant women at Ekurhuleni health district

The aim of the study was to determine factors contributing to late booking amongst pregnant women at Ekurhuleni health district in order to offer recommendations for enhancing early booking. Interpretative phenomenological analysis design was used. Data were collected using semi-structured individual face-to-face interviews from 20 purposively selected pregnant women. Each interview was audio recorded and lasted between 45-60 minutes. Fields notes were taken to triangulate data collection method. Audio recorded interviews were transcribed verbatim. Data were thematically analysed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis framework for data analysis. Results indicate that healthcare service related factors such as human resources, infrastructure and the type of service rendered at the clinic contribute to late bookings. Client related factors such as socioeconomic status, cultural beliefs and knowledge deficit also contribute to late bookings. Recommendations are made addressing both healthcare service and client related factors in order to enhance early booking among pregnant woman at Ekurhuleni district. / Health Studies / M.A. (Nursing science)

Analyses of experiences of vicarious traumatisation in short-term insurance claims workers

Thesis (Ph.D.(Psychology))--University of the Witwatersrand, Faculty of Humanities, 2013. / The research entailed a comprehensive study of vicarious trauma in short-term insurance claims workers, compared to trauma counsellors and a control group of holiday booking consultants. A well-known, comprehensive model of compassion fatigue/secondary traumatic stress, developed for therapists formed the basis of the study. The research attempted to determine whether this model can be applied more widely to include administrative populations exposed to traumatised clients on a regular basis. To this end, the model was deconstructed into its eleven constituent parts and each element was investigated in addition to other variables of interest to the study. This was done to determine the importance and applicability of each model element and other selected variables to the administrative context. A mixed methods approach was utilised, which combined quantitative and qualitative data. The results yielded by the study were collectively utilised to construct an etic and an emic voice from the research. At the same time, effects from vicarious trauma were considered from an overarching bio-psychosocial stance, systematically gauging effects on various levels of functioning. Scores from quantitative measures on secondary traumatic stress, negative cognitive schemas, empathy, social support and compassion satisfaction were statistically analysed, which revealed significant differences between the worker groups. Widely accepted relationships between the study variables were tested and found to hold true within and across groups. Regression analysis determined the roles of empathy, social support and compassion satisfaction in vicarious trauma, as measured by secondary traumatic stress and negative cognitive schemas. In addition, constructivist selfdevelopment theory was employed to interpret the negative cognitive effects from vicarious traumatisation. Qualitative data were utilised to further elucidate the role and nature of vicarious trauma in each of the worker groups. The themes of exposure to client suffering, detachment, level of empathic engagement, personal trauma history and difficult life demands were unearthed from the qualitative data, which illuminated the importance and role of each of these elements to claims workers. Other areas of interest, being utilisation of sick-leave as a means to cope, work-related illness, attitudes towards professional counselling, feelings evoked by traumatised clients, and the language utilised by workers in response to client traumata were investigated. Further effects on participants as well iv as effects that reach beyond the person were identified and examined. Effects on the social and work contexts were also elucidated. Finally, interesting themes that emerged spontaneously from the data were considered. The consideration of the various model elements and other areas of interest systematically revealed that administrative workers dealing with traumatised clients are also affected by the process of vicarious trauma. Furthermore, the model was found to be largely suitable to the context of claims workers. However, the model was expanded to augment its usability within the more general administrative domain. Finally, the overarching aim was to enrich, contextualise and elaborate on the experiences of claims workers within their unique work context, to facilitate insight and a deeper understanding of vicarious trauma in more administrative populations that have largely been overlooked in research.

Denna rapport beskriver utvecklingen av ett nytt bokningssystem för företaget Moridge AB. Bokningssystemet består av en förardel där förare kan hantera sina bokningar och arbetsschema samt en administrationsdel för hantering av alla förare och statistikvisning avseende kunder och förares bokningar. Rapporten går igenom hela utvecklingens process från systemets krav till designplanering till slutfärdigt resultat och en avslutande diskussion.   Bokningssystemet är en webbapplikation för mobila enheter utvecklad med ASP.NET MVC Razor och jQuery Mobile. Systemet består av ett säkert inloggningssystem med uppkoppling till en databas med hjälp av Entity Framework och bokningshantering via Google Calendar API.   Projektet lade stor vikt vid design för optimal användarupplevelse och säkerhetslösningar. Användargränssnitten togs fram med kontemporära tekniker och användarupplevelsen kontrollerades med användartest. Säkerheten garanteras genom användning av en kraftfull kryptografisk algoritm för lösenordshantering och autentisering via ASP.NET Identity och Forms Authentication som begränsar åtkomst till enbart behöriga användare. / This report describes the development of a new booking system for the company Moridge AB. The booking system is composed of a driver section where drivers can handle their bookings and work schedule as well as an administration section for the management of all drivers and statistics showing customers and drivers bookings. The report goes through the entire development process from system requirements to design planning to the final finished system, and a concluding discussion.   The booking system is a web application for mobile devices developed with ASP.NET MVC Razor and jQuery Mobile. The system consists of a secure login system with a connection to a database using Entity Framework and booking management via Google Calendar API.   The project placed great importance on user experience design (UX) and security. The user interfaces were developed with contemporary technologies and user experience were controlled by user test. Safety is ensured by the use of a powerful cryptographic algorithm for password management and authentication through ASP.NET Identity and Forms Authentication, which limit access to only authorized users.

The contracting company is in the desire of an autonomous system that can do tedious administrative work that is today done manually. They would like to autonomically notify customers about incoming alarms from the customers’ real estates’ Data Under Centrals and to notify about bookings, in which a complete booking system has to be created, together with a file system analyzer that notifies about new files in the customers’ project folders. A notification system was made that was easily deployable and ready to use. The system had to be completely configurable for the contracting company to use it to its full potential. The notification system was to send notifications when a new alarm had entered the database, a booking had to be reminded of, a rebooking was made or a file had been added to the file system in a designated project folder. The contracting company had a web portal that was further developed in ASP.net in which a booking calendar and booking viewer page was added together with a form creation and management system. A demo buttons page was also added for generating demo notifications for the company to show it’s customers how the system responds to certain events. The employees at GATE IBS feel confident that this system will help them in their working environment to further strengthen their position as an industry leading business in control- and monitoring technology. / Det uppdragsgivande företaget önskar ett autonomt system som kan utföra tidskrävande administrativt arbete som idag utförs manuellt. Dokumentet är ett resultat av studier gjorda under kursen Kandidatarbete I Datavetenskap. Arbetet utforskade, genom fallstudie, två egenskaper av distribuerade informationssystem och relation mellan dessa: säkerhet och prestanda. Målet med fallstudien har varit att belysa nackdelen med användning av Secure Socker Layer (SSL) dvs. dess effekt på hastigheten och fördelen med SSL, dvs. SSL:s roll i informationssäkerhetsarbetet. Arbetet visar hur prestanda i ett tillämpad distribuerat informationssystem kan påverkas av en SSL tillämpning. Systemets responstid testades för skillnader mellan en SSL säkrad uppkoppling och utan. Det testade systemet var ett bokningssystem som används för administration av resor, utvecklat i DotNet utvecklingsplattform. Arbetet har dessutom visat genom studien av informationssäkerhetsstandarden ledningssystem för informationssäkerhet (LIS) vilken plats som SSL protokollet har i informationssäkerhetsarbetet i organisationer. Metoden för jämförelse utvecklades och baserades på interaktionsmodellen. Hypotesen för arbetet var att mjukvara som tillämpar SSL gör att responstiden blir längre men gör också att informationssystemet uppfyller krav enligt standarden för ledningssystem av informationssäkerhet SS-ISO/IEC 17799 och SS 62 77 99-2. Hypotesen bekräftades då resultatet för mätningen visade en ökning på 37,5 % i medel för klienten med säkrad SSL uppkoppling och att resultatet av LIS studien visade att organisationer uppfyller viktiga krav ställda i standarden genom at ha en SSL säkrad kommunikation i sitt informationssystem. / This study shows the impact of SSL application on performance in a distributed information system. Det slutgiltiga systemet blev en hemsida för tidsbokning, ett Web-API för kommunikation med hemsidan, integration av Google Calendar API för att hämta och lägga till tidsbokningar på personalens scheman samt lagring av data i en databas. / This report describes the implementation of a booking system with the integration of Google Calendar API. The objective was primarily to evaluate the potential of a booking system where Google Calendar was used as schedules for staff. The project could also be used as a base system for customizing booking systems for different business models. The final system consisted of a website for making appointments, a Web API for communicating with the website, integration of Google Calendar API to retrieve and add appointments to the schedules of the staff and storing data in a database.

Zavedení IS pro internetovou cestovní agenturu / Implementation of IS for the internet travel agency

The topic of this master thesis are information systems in turism. The author focuses mostly on reservations systems as an essential information systems for travel agencies. This thesis examines such systems in the context of the Internet and the model of software as a service. The Internet has become a necessary for operating these systems and it has influenced the field as a whole. The thesis has three main chapters. The first chapter is a theoretical one, where the author investigates the mechanics of information systems in turism. He attempts to formalize information systems in general and he seeks their role in organizations. Additionally, he explains how these systems work and what functionallity can be expected from them. In the second chapter, which moves between theory and practice, the author analyzes the current market situation of these systems. Next, he defines requirements on a system tailored for one specific bussiness plan. Using these requirements multi-criteria decision analysis is performed, selecting the system which best matches the chosen criteria. The last chapter is a practical one and it is concern with deploying selected system from the previous chapter and all aspects of this process. The goal of this thesis is to realize information system part of the Internet-based travel agency project and at the same time search for theoretical conclusions about these systems. The conclusions are then compiled into methodological manual for ASW application in the Internet-based travel agencies segment.
