Household waste disposal is one of the main sources of water pollution, stimulating bacteria proliferation and introducing microorganisms, including those from fecal matter. Conventional water disinfection methods are a solution, but on the downside, they lead to the formation byproducts hazardous to human health. In this study, aiming to develop bactericidal filters for the disinfection of drinking water; silver nanoparticles were deposited on alumina foams through three routes: sputtering DC, dip coating and in situ chemical reduction of silver nitrate. The depositions were characterized through X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy and EDS element mapping. The influence of the depositions on permeability and mechanical properties of the ceramic foams was assessed and, in sequence, a preliminary antibacterial efficiency analysis was carried out. Characterization results indicate that the chemical reduction routes were efficient in depositing homogeneously distributed silver particles and that the concentration of the metallic precursor salt affects size and morphology of the particles. Much research has been carried out both by academia and the productive sector, sometimes reintroducing them in the same production line that generated them, sometimes in areas unrelated to their generation, as in the production of concrete and mortar for the construction, for example, but each one in an isolated way. In this research, the aim is to study the combined incorporation of the waste drill cuttings of oil well and the residue of the polishing of porcelain, generated in the final stage of finishing of this product in a clay matrix, for the production of red pottery, specifically bricks, ceramic blocks and tiles. The clay comes from the municipality of S?o Gon?alo, RN, the drilling waste is from the Natal basin, in Rio Grande do Norte, and the residue of the polishing proceeds from a ceramic porcelain of the State of Para?ba. For this purpose, we used a mixture of a plastic clay with a non-plastic, in a ratio of 50% each, settling formulations with the addition of these two residues in this clay matrix. In the formulations, both residues were incorporated with a minimum percentage of 2.5% and maximum of 12.5%, varying from 2.5% each, in each formulation, which the sum of the waste be no more than 15%. It should be noted that the residue of the polishing of ceramic porcelain is a IIa class (not inert). The materials were characterized by XRF, XRD, TG, DTA, laser granulometry and the plasticity index. The technological properties of water absorption, apparent porosity, linear shrinkage of burning, flexural tensile strength and bulk density were evaluated after the sintering of the pieces to 850 ?C, 950 ?C and 1050 ?C, with a burning time of 3 hr, 3 hr and 30 minutes, and 3 hr and 50 minutes, respectively, with a heating rate of 10 ?C/minute, for all formulations and landing of 30 minutes. To better understand the influence of each residue and temperature on the evaluated properties, we used the factorial planning and its surfaces of response for the interpretation of the results. It was found that the temperature has no statistical significance at a 95% of reliability level in flexural tensile strength and that it decreases the water absorption and the porosity, but increases the shrinkage and the bulk density. The results showed the feasibility of the desired incorporation, but adjusting the temperature to each product and formulation, and that the temperatures of 850 ?C and 950 ?C were the one that responded to the largest number of formulations / A ind?stria de produ??o de porcelanatos para uso na constru??o civil e a do petr?leo, na fase de explora??o e produ??o, exercem um papel importante na produ??o de res?duos. Utilizou-se a mistura de uma argila pl?stica com uma n?o pl?stica, numa propor??o de 50 % de cada uma (que ? o percentual de mistura adotado na cer?mica fornecedora dessa argila), estabelecendo-se formula??es com a incorpora??o dos dois res?duos nessa matriz argilosa. Nas formula??es, os dois res?duos foram incorporados com um percentual m?nimo de 2,5 % e m?ximo de 12,5 %, variando-se em 2,5 % cada um, em cada formula??o, de modo que a soma dos res?duos fosse no m?ximo 15 %. ? oportuno registrar que o res?duo do polimento do porcelanato ? de classe IIa (n?o inerte). The main objective of the project is to develop nanostructured ceramic compounds quaternary-based oxide Barium (Br), Strontium (Sr), Cobalt (Co) and Iron (Fe). In this project were synthesized compounds BaxSr(1-x)Co0, 8Fe0,2O3- (x = 0.2, 0.5 and 0.8) through the oxalate co-precipitation method. The synthesized powders were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis and differential thermal analysis (TGADTA), X-ray diffraction (XRD) with the Rietveld refinement using the software MAUD and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results showed that the synthesis technique used was suitable for production of nanostructured ceramic solid solutions. The powders obtained had a crystalline phase with perovskite-type structure. The TGA-DTA results showed that the homogeneous phase of interest was obtained temperature above 1034?C. It was also observed that the heating rate of the calcination process did not affect the elimination of impurities present in the ceramic powder. The variation in the addition of barium dopant promoted changes in the average crystallite size in the nanometer range, the composition being BSCF(5582) obtained the lowest value (179.0nm). The results obtained by oxalate co-precipitation method were compared with those synthesis methods in solid state and EDTA-citrate method / P?s cer?micos ? base de ?xidos de estrutura do tipo perovsquita ? de fundamental interesse atualmente, pois apresentam condutividade i?nica e eletr?nica importante na utiliza??o de materiais com aplica??es tecnol?gicas como: sensores de gases, membranas perme?veis ao oxig?nio, catalisadores e eletr?lito para c?lulas a combust?vel de ?xido s?lido . In the last years this territory has gone through a process of appropriation that has been substantially changing the environmental and social dynamism of the place. However, the industry of red ware has been focusing in some areas, mainly, in the county of Parelhas and Carna?ba dos Dantas. From this point of view, the aim of this work consists in analyze the use of these areas by the red ware industry and the transformations occurred with the expansion of the number of industries and the productivity raise, that requires bigger amounts of earthenware and wood, resources that are low in referred territory. As the result of this process, the suitable alternative has been to acquire inputs in other Rio Grande do Norte counties, as well as in Para?ba counties. To reach the proposed objective, the methodology of this work was consisted of bibliographic and empirical research, regarding the occupation that this activity covers in the Serid? region. From the information obtained during the research, it can be stated that the inputs to the production execution in the red ware industry are acquired in the geographic nearby lands. The analysis of the stages of the production(acquisition of raw material, production and commercialization) showed that the activity acts in a continuous area, having as principal consumer market other northeastern states and the state of Par?. The present study revealed that the pottery activity is set as untenable, because of non-stopping use of the argil and wood, resources that are vanishing from the area, which consume causes a many problems such as deforestation and erosion. Besides, the sale of productive lands for the red ware industries makes harder its good use by the familiar agriculturists in the development of agriculture and cattle raising activity, which for many times is the main economic activity of the place. The precariousness reveals in the constant accidents at work, that most of them are neglected by the local authorities, without any penalty to the industries. Therefore, the industry of red ware in Serid? uses the territory as a resource, leaving its environmental problems that my compromise the quality of life of the actual and future generations / Esta pesquisa tem como universo emp?rico, o territ?rio produtor de cer?mica vermelha no Serid? potiguar. Nos ?ltimos anos esse territ?rio passou por um processo de apropria??o que tem alterado substancialmente a din?mica social e ambiental do lugar. No Serid?, a ind?stria de cer?mica vermelha tem se concentrado em algumas ?reas, sobretudo, nos munic?pios de Parelhas e Carna?ba dos Dantas. Nesta perspectiva, o objetivo desse trabalho consiste em analisar o uso do territ?rio pela ind?stria de cer?mica vermelha e as transforma??es ocorridas com a expans?o no n?mero de ind?strias e no aumento da produtividade, o que requer maiores quantidades de argila e de lenha, recursos escassos no referido territ?rio. Em decorr?ncia desse processo, a alternativa encontrada tem sido adquirir os insumos em outros munic?pios do Rio Grande do Norte, como tamb?m em munic?pios paraibanos. A an?lise das etapas do circuito de produ??o (aquisi??o da mat?ria-prima, produ??o e comercializa??o) mostrou que esta atividade atua numa ?rea cont?nua, tendo como principal mercado consumidor os demais estados do Nordeste e o estado do Par?. O presente estudo revelou ainda que a atividade ceramista configura-se como insustent?vel, haja vista a recorr?ncia permanente ? argila e ? lenha, insumos escassos no territ?rio, cuja aquisi??o provoca uma s?rie de problemas como o desmatamento e a eros?o. Such ceramics result in miniaturized structures with dimensions well reduced and high radiation efficiency. In this work, we have used a new ceramic material called lead zinc titanate in the form of Zn0,8Pb0,2TiO3, capable of being used as a dielectric substrate in the construction of various structures of antennas. The method used in constructing the ceramic combustion synthesis was Self- Sustained High Temperature (SHS - "Self-Propagating High-Temperature Synthesis") which is defined as a process that uses highly exothermic reactions to produce various materials. Once initiated the reaction area in the reaction mixture, the heat generated is sufficient to become self-sustaining combustion in the form of a wave that propagates converting the reaction mixture into the product of interest. Were analyzed aspects of the formation of the composite Zn0,8Pb0,2TiO3 by SHS powders and characterized. The analysis consisted of determining the parameters of the reaction for the formation of the composite, as the ignition temperature and reaction mechanisms. The production of composite Zn0,8Pb0,2TiO3 by SHS performed in the laboratory, was the result of a total control of combustion temperature and after obtaining the powder began the development of ceramics. The product was obtained in the form of regular, alternating layers of porous ceramics and was obtained by uniaxial pressing. 10 The product was characterized by analysis of dilatometry, X-ray diffraction analysis and scanning electron microscopy. One of the contributions typically defined in this work is the development of a new dielectric material, nevertheless presented previously in the literature. Therefore, the structures of the antennas presented in this work consisted of new dielectric ceramics based Zn0,8Pb0,2TiO3 usually used as dielectric substrate. The materials produced were characterized in the microwave range. These are dielectrics with high relative permittivity and low loss tangent. A an?lise consistiu na determina??o dos par?metros da rea??o para a forma??o do comp?sito, como a temperatura de igni??o e os mecanismos de rea??o. A produ??o do comp?sito Zn0,8Pb0,2TiO3 por SHS, realizada em laborat?rio, foi resultado de um controle total da temperatura de combust?o e ap?s a obten??o do p? 8 iniciou-se o desenvolvimento das cer?micas. O produto foi obtido na forma de camadas regulares e altern?ncia de porosidades e as cer?micas foram obtidas por prensagem uniaxial. O produto foi caracterizado atrav?s de an?lises de dilatometria, difra??o de raios-X e an?lise de microscopia de varredura eletr?nica. The aim of this study is to investigate and improve the mechanism for obtaining ceramic matrix composite (CMC) based on SiOC/Al2O3/TiC by pyrolysis of polysiloxane in the presence of an active filler and inert filler in the pyrolysis temperature lower than the usually adopted for this technique, with greater strength. It also investigates the influence of pyrolysis temperature, the content of Alas active filler, the presence of infiltrating agents (Al, glass and polymer) after pyrolysis, temperature and infiltration time on some physical and mechanical properties. Alumina is used as inert filler and Al and Ti as active filler in the pyrolysis. Aluminum, glass and polysiloxane are used as agents infiltrating the post-pyrolysis. The results are analyzed with respect to porosity and bulk density by the Archimedes method, the presence of crystalline phases by X-ray diffraction (XRD) and microstructure by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The ceramic pyrolyzed between 850 ?C 1400 ?C contain porosity 15% to 33%, density 2.34 g/cm3 and flexural strength at 4 points from 30 to 42 MPa. O objetivo deste trabalho foi investigar e aprimorar o mecanismo de obten??o de comp?sito de matriz cer?mica (CMC) baseado em SiOC/Al2O3/TiC pela pir?lise de um polissiloxano em presen?a de cargas ativa e inerte, em temperatura de pir?lise inferior ? usualmente adotada para essa t?cnica, com maior resist?nci mec?nica. Tamb?m se investiga a influ?ncia da temperatura de pir?lise, do teor de Al como carga ativa, da presen?a de agentes infiltrantes (Al, vidro de La e pol?mero polissiloxano) p?s-pir?lise, da temperatura e do tempo de infiltra??o sobre algumas propriedades f?sicas e mec?nicas. A alumina ? utilizada como carga inerte e Ti e Al como carga ativa na pir?lise. Alum?nio, vidro de La e um polissiloxano s?o utilizados como agentes infiltrantes p?s-pir?lise. Os materiais obtidos foram analisados com rela??o ? porosidade e densidade aparente pelo m?todo de Arquimedes, a presen?a de fases cristalinas por difratometria de raios-X (DRX) e a microestrutura por microscopia eletr?nica de varredura (MEV). Os corpos cer?micos pirolisados entre 850 ?C 1400 ?C apresentam porosidade de 15 -33%, densidade de 2,34 2,62 g/cm3 e resist?ncia mec?nica ? flex?o em 4 pontos de 30 -42 MPa. A microestrutura apresentou-se porosa, com uma matriz de Al2O3 refor?ada por part?culas de TiC e AlTi3. A infiltra??o p?s-pir?lise revelou redu??o da porosidade e incremento da densidade, dos corpos infiltrados, em torno de 20% e da resist?ncia mec?nica em torno de 40%, com o Al e o pol?mero agindo mais eficazmente como agentes infiltrantes, sob v?cuo. As propriedades mec?nicas de comp?sitos processados sem press?o de compacta??o se apresentaram equivalentes ?quelas de algumas literaturas em que se utilizou press?o de compacta??o e retra??o linear de apenas 2%, bem. Os comp?sitos obtidos apresentam potencial de aplica??o onde estabilidade t?rmica ? o principal requisito.

That region contains the largest State s producing basin of red ceramics. The district of Parelhas stands out as the largest producing nucleus. The studied company is located in the rural zone of Parelhas, it was selected as study object because it possesses a great part of the representative characteristics of the Region s ceramics park as a whole. Impacts produced at the implantation and operation phases of the Company had been evaluated, being this last phase subdivided in stages of the productive process. Among found adverse impacts, they are distinguished: losses in air quality, undesirable noises, microclimatic alterations, impoverishment of the ground, elimination of the vegetal covering, agricultural exodus, crisis in cattle agriculture and, superficial and underground water contamination, beyond risks ocupational diseases and industrial accidents. The Leopold s interactive matrix, that summarizes results of the work, was presented in form of 15 (fifteen) tables that display impacts classified in qualitative and quantitative way. Totally, 175 (one hundred and seventy-five) significant impacts produced by this Company had been identified, being 114 (one hundred and fourteen) negative, 38 (thirty-eight) positive and 23 (twenty-three) among mixed, indefinite and inert ones. In the work, before the evaluation of impacts properly said, it was constructed a diagnostic table of the ambient situation at a previous moment to implantation of the Company, elaborated on basis of inferences and historical researches. It was proposed still, mitigative steps for adverse impacts identified, as also elaborated a program to accompaniment and observing that the fulfilment of indicated mitigative steps guarantees. The final part of the work contemplates conclusions and suggestions that aim to influence positively the presented sight in terms of environmental management / O presente trabalho trata de uma avalia??o de impactos ambientais gerados por uma ind?stria cer?mica t?pica da regi?o do Serid? do Rio Grande do Norte. Essa regi?o abriga a maior bacia produtora de cer?mica vermelha do Estado, destacando-se o munic?pio de Parelhas como maior n?cleo produtor. A empresa estudada localiza-se na zona rural do munic?pio de Parelhas, foi escolhida como objeto de estudo por reunir boa parte das caracter?sticas representativas do parque cer?mico da Regi?o como um todo. Foram avaliados os impactos produzidos nas fases de implanta??o e opera??o da Empresa, sendo esta ?ltima fase subdividida em etapas do processo produtivo. Electron microscopy and spectroscopy study of nanostructured thin film catalysts for micro-fuel cell application / Étude par microscopie électronique et spectroscopie de films minces catalytiques pour micro piles à combustibles

Les piles à membrane polymère à échange de protons (PEMFC) sont une des techniques les plus prometteuses pour une production d'électricité propre et efficace à partir d'hydrogène. Les applications de cette nouvelle génération de piles à combustibles concernent aussi bien des applications portables et nomades telles que smartphones, ordinateurs portables, électronique embarquée que des applications domestiques ou dans les transports. A ce jour, le platine utilisé comme catalyseur est considéré comme le seul choix possible pour un rendement élevé et stable. En conséquence, suite à des ressources limitées en platine, la fabrication des piles à combustible reste coûteuse et la production industrielle généralisée impossible. Pour cette raison, une diminution substantielle de la quantité de Pt incorporée et donc la recherche de nouveaux matériaux d'anode à faible coût avec une activité élevée sont nécessaires. Des systèmes à base d’oxyde de cérium dopés au platine avaient été présentés comme étant des catalyseurs actifs pour l'oxydation du CO, la production d'hydrogène, l'oxydation de l'éthanol et la décomposition de méthanol. Au cours de ce travail, de nouveaux concepts pour la fabrication des piles à combustible ont été développés : la quantité de platine incorporée a été fortement diminuée conduisant à la production de nouveaux matériaux d'anode. Enfin, des catalyseurs à base de platine ont été déposés non pas sous la forme usuelle de nanopoudres mais sous forme de films minces fortement poreux sur substrat silicium.Au cours de cette thèse, le système Pt-CeOx a été étudié. Des échantillons non dopés puis dopés avec une faible quantité de platine ont été élaborés puis caractérisés en vue d'une application comme catalyseurs pour piles à combustibles. L'obtention de ces matériaux avec des propriétés sur mesure implique la maîtrise totale de leurs conditions de croissance. Afin d’étudier ces nouveaux composés de taille nanométrique, la microscopie électronique en transmission (MET) a été un outil précieux, qui a permis d'apporter des informations très précises sur la morphologie des films minces, la composition chimique et la structure à l'échelle atomique. Le cérium possède un double degré d'oxydation (+III/+IV), ce qui explique ses très bonnes propriétés catalytiques. Des analyses par spectrométrie dephotoélectrons X (XPS) ainsi que par spectroscopie de pertes d'énergie des électrons (EELS) ont été effectuées afin de déterminer son degré d'oxydation. / Present doctoral thesis is focused on investigation of novel metal-oxide anode catalyst for fuel cell application by electron microscopy and associated spectroscopies. Catalysts based on Pt-doped cerium oxide in form of thin layers prepared by simultaneous magnetron sputtering deposition on intermediate carbonaceous films grown on silicon substrate have been studied. The influence of the catalyst support composition (a-C and CNx films), deposition time of CeOx layer and other deposition parameters, as deposition rate, composition of working atmosphere and Pt concentration on the morphology of Pt-CeOx layers has been investigated mainly by Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM). The obtained results have shown that by combination of suitable preparation conditions we are able to tune the final morphology and composition of the catalysts. The composition of carbonaceous films and Pt-CeOx layers was examined by complementary spectroscopy techniques – Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDX), Electron Energy Loss Spectroscopy (EELS) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy (XPS). Such prepared porous structures of Pt-CeOx are promising as anode catalytic material for real fuel cell application. / Předložená dizertační práce se zabývá studiem nových katalyzátorů na bázi kov-oxid vhodných pro použití v palivových článcích na straně anody. Platinou dopovaný oxid ceru připravený magnetronovým naprašováním ve formě tenkých vrstev na uhlíkových mezivrstvách nesených křemíkovým substrátem byl zkoumán prostřednictvím mikroskopických a spektroskopických metod. Vliv složení uhlíkového nosiče (a-C a CNx filmy), depozičního času CeOx vrstvy a dalších depozičních parametrů, např. depoziční rychlosti, složení pracovní atmosféry a Pt koncentrace na morfologii Pt-CeOx vrstev byl studován převážně pomocí transmisní elektronové mikroskopie (TEM). Získané výsledky ukazují, že vhodnou kombinací depozičních podmínek jsme schopni vyladit výslednou morfologii a kompozici katalyzátoru. Složení uhlíkových filmů a Pt-CeOx vrstev bylo studováno spektroskopickými technikami – energiově-disperzní spektroskopií (EDX), spektroskopií charakteristických ztrát elektronů (EELS) a rentgenovou fotoelektronovou spektroskopií (XPS). Takto připravené porézní struktury vrstev Pt-CeOx jsou slibným katalytickým materiálem na straně anody pro reálné aplikace v palivových článcích.

Les évolutions contemporaines du régionalisme africain : essai sur la rationalisation de l'intégration africaine au regard du ddroit international public / Contemporary developments of African regionalism : an attempt at rationalizing African integration from a international public law perspective

A rebours du schéma élaboré dans le cadre du Traité d’Abuja signé le 3 juin 1991 par les Etats membres de L’Organisation de l’unité Africaine (OUA), la divergence actuelle des systèmes régionaux africains constitue une dénaturation de l’approche convenue. Ce texte prévoit en effet dans son article 6, la création des Communautés économiques régionales (CER) comme une modalité de l’intégration continentale. A ce titre, huit CER sont aujourd’hui reconnues par l’Union Africaine : la Communauté Economique des Etats de l’Afrique de l’Ouest (CEDEAO) ; la Communauté Economique des Etats de l’Afrique Centrale (CEEAC) ; la Communauté de l’Afrique de l’Est (CAE) ; la Southern Africa Development Community (SADC); l’Autorité Intergouvernementale pour le Développement (IGAD); le Marché Commun de l’Afrique Australe et Orientale (COMESA); l’Union du Maghreb Arabe (UMA); et la Communauté des Etats Sahélo-Sahariens (CEN-SAD). L’établissement de la Communauté économique africaine instituée par le Traité, reste subordonné à la réussite de ces systèmes communautaires régionaux. Toutefois, la multiplication d’autres organisations communautaires sous-régionales - en plus de celles reconnues - d’une part, et la mise en œuvre de programmes et activités similaires dans le domaine économique d’autre part, tendent à compromettre la réalisation du projet africain. Cette situation fait échec au concept de départ qui établit le principe d’une exclusivité régionale à la faveur de la CER reconnue. A cause de chevauchements des objectifs poursuivis, il s’ensuit entre les organisations régionales, des rapports de rivalité plutôt que de complémentarité, aboutissant à la coexistence des systèmes d’intégration concurrents. Les rapports entre les CER et l’Organisation continentale rendent également visibles les insuffisances liées à la coordination du processus projeté. L’Union Africaine ne disposant pas du tout ou pas suffisamment des moyens juridiques lui permettant une intrusion dans la mise en œuvre des programmes communautaires régionaux, l’application des dispositions du Traité d’Abuja par les CER, ne semble pas homogène. La matérialisation des ambitions affichées par les Etats signataires demeure à ce jour conditionnée par la rationalisation de l’intégration envisagée. Cette étude vise à proposer quelques pistes de solutions en ce sens. / In stark contrast to the vision which emerged from the Treaty of Abuja, ratified by the member states of the Organisation of African Unity on the 3rd of June 1991, the present divergence of regional systems in Africa constitutes a serious distortion of the approach that was agreed upon. Indeed, in Article 6, the treaty sets forth the “strengthening of existing regional economic communities” (RECs) as a means of achieving integration on a continental scale. Along these lines, the African Union now recognizes eight RECs: the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), the East African Community (EAC), the Southern African Development Community (SADC), the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), the Arab Maghreb Union (AMU), and the Community of Sahel-Saharan States (CEN-SAD). As laid out in the treaty, the establishment of the African Economic Community is entirely dependent upon the success of these regional community systems. At the same time, the increase of other community organisations at the sub-regional level, beyond those officially recognized, on the one hand, and the implementation of similar programmes and activities, on the other hand, tend to endanger the realisation of the African project. This situation flies in the face of the original idea, which was based on the principle of the regional exclusivity of the recognized RECs. As a result of the various overlapping goals that are being pursued by difference organisations, competitive rather than complimentary relations have led to a coexistence of rival systems of integration. The relations between the RECs and the continental organization (the AU) have also made apparent the inadequacy of the coordination procedure that had been envisaged. As the African Union does not have sufficient legal means at its disposal to intervene in the implementation of regional community programmes, the execution of the Treaty of Abuja by the RECs lacks homogeneity. In order to achieve the ambitions declared by those member states who signed the treaty, a rationalisation of the proposed integration is necessary. The present study puts forward several proposals as to how such a rationalisation may be accomplished.
