The construction of a dominant metropolis The problem of urban sprawl in the region of Damascus (SyriaFadel, Tamman 29 November 2016 (has links)
Nowdays, Urban sprawl is gaining larger attentions by institutions and researchers who are seeking to analyze its effects and the corresponding contributing factors. This PhD thesis focuses on the urban sprawl phenomenon in the region of Damascus (Syria) that is accelerating with time, and threatening the agricultural spaces of Ghouta (the oasis of Damascus). Taking into account the fact of Damascus being the capital of Syria, a very centralized country, we show in this work how the Ghouta agricultural spaces (that are of great importance as declared by the state) are threatened by this urban sprawl. Based on several studies and on data collected from Syrian local institutions, we show that the Damascus region, like the other national metropolis, is subject to the urban spreading general conditions. Finally, this phenomenon can be also mainly explained by other factors termed "specific Damascenes". Therefore, rather considering a simple approach based only on two factors (demographic and economic), the peculiarity of this PhD lies in considering some additional important factors into consideration when analyzing the urban sprawl phenomenon. Those important factors are those related to the political, administrative and sociocultural context (confessional).

Involvement without Influence? : Theoretical and Organisational Premises for Women´s Empowerment in Development ProgrammesCortobius Fredriksson, Moa January 2011 (has links)
The objective of the thesis is to discuss how the theoretical and organisational premises of the gender approaches of development programmes affect their possibilities to empower women and to enhance gender equality. This will be done through a study of the gender approaches of six development programmes for democratic and economic governance in the water and sanitation sector located in Angola, Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico, Paraguay and Philippines respectively. The programmes strive towards the achievement of the UN Millennium Development Goals and are financed by the Spanish Millennium Development Goals Achievement Fund. The programmes‟ gender approaches are defined as: the way the programmes interpret the concepts of women‟s empowerment and gender equality; the way they incorporate the concepts into their programme design and organisational structure, and; the activities and strategies implemented to enhance women‟s empowerment and gender equality in the programme areas. The analysis of the gender approaches of the programmes will be centred on the five theoretical assumptions which together state that a) a gender approach based on a collective postulation, with; b) adequate mechanisms for women‟s influence and; c) a purposeful involvement of men, backed-up by; d) adequate resource and responsibility allocation, and; e) a gender integrated design enabling evaluation and monitoring, is more probable to empower women. The main findings of the thesis are that: 1) all of the six gender approaches of the programmes are fundamentally individualistic and driven by efficiency rationales; 2) women‟s possible influence is generally limited and partial because of inadequate scope of participatory spaces; 3) men are not considered in any of the gender approaches; 4) the responsibility allocation for gender issues is the most important organisational feature for the implementation of the approaches, but it is weak in the majority of the programmes; 5) the integration of gender in the programme design and the funding mechanisms appear to not affect the implementation directly. Based on the results of the thesis it is concluded that both the theoretical and organisational premises of the gender approaches create small possibilities for the programmes to empower women and to enhance gender equality. The results also point to what appears to be fundamental structural weaknesses in the present gender interpretation, integration and implementation of international development agencies.

Departmentalization, decentralization and institutional development prospects of Mayotte.Moussa, Asskani 09 June 2015 (has links)
The law of 31 December 1975 on self determination of Comores organises two consultations in Mayotte to ask its residents to declare maintenance in France and the second inviting mahorais to determine the status of Mayotte within the Republic. Mahorais confirm their donating and the law of 23 December 1976 create local authority to the provisional status on the basis of Article 72 of the constitution. The law of 11 July 2001 changes that status to establish « collectivité territoriale of Mayotte » by specifying the local system to enfoncement of laws and regulations by reducing the legal context of legislative specialty rule. This resolution is immediatly followed by a consultation of population of Mayotte the 29 March 2009 that must decide on the future of the island’s status. In the institutional plan, Mayotte find it self in a decisive moment from it hitory to next day of laws of 7 December 2010 that create the department status, Mayotte face to the overseas administration department’s challenges whose the aims need biggest collaboration between public powers and the Mahorais who are always vigilant to the evolution of their status. And this statutory transformation cause an other subsequent transfer of european status of PTOMVERS the one of an ultra-perpheral regional of the European Union in the horizon 2014. How does this dogma evolue ? That is the goal of this thesis.

Le statut des collectivités infra-étatiques européennes : entre organe et sujet / The status of european sub-state collectivities : between organ and subjectColavitti, Romélien 28 November 2012 (has links)
The international legal system perceives a sub-state collectivity as a sovereign State's organ. This classical logic of assimilation, led by a statist perception of international relations, conducts the operations of identification of a commitment due to a juridical act, attribution of a wrongful act and acceptance of standing. In this context, a sub-state collectivity is not considered as a juridical person, subject to the particular situation of federated collectivities. Originally international, European Union's (E.U.) and Council of Europe's legal systems retain a measure of this heritage. However, the incorporation of sub-state collectivities in this regional legal system, admittedly still dominated by States, raises them gradually to the rank of singular actresses. The empowerment of both European legal systems from these classical international mechanisms and the realization of the principle of immediacy bring to reconsider the relevance of a systematic assimilation of the sub-state collectivities as insignificant parts of State and take account of their own juridical personality, such as established by domestic law. This new logic of personification, which develops vertical (i.e. relations between European and domestic legal systems) and horizontal dimensions (i.e. relations between domestic legal systems) is still imperfect. When they're not considered as State's organs, sub-state collectivities are sometimes perceived as individuals, who try to satisfy their own interests without any reference to general interest.

Collective Authorself-Portrait, a Poetics of the Open Authorship: Authoring Poetics, Multi-Poetics in Collectivity and a taxonomy for the Spect-Authorship - authorial agency of the spectators in participatory and interactive arts.Silva, Arnaldo Valente Germano da 08 August 2012 (has links)
This thesis presents a study and theoretical formulations about the concept of spect-authorship on participatory and interactive artworks and defends the concepts of Poetics of the Open Authorship, Authoring Poetics and Multi-Poetics in Collectivity as artistic praxis of apropriation of the production devices of the social representations in the context of the spectators authorship in the participatory and interactive arts. Through an interdisciplinary transfer of concepts as Gellouz concept of spect-author (2007) , this study proposes the notions of authorability, authoriable artwork, authorial agency of the spectator, trinomial production/reception/production as well the concepts of function-espect-author, spect-author in collectivity, particip-author, inter-author and trans-author, which privilege the notion of authorship, setting a taxonomy more appropriate to compose a vocabulary that describes and increases the understanding of the concept of spect-authorship, the authorial production of the spectators as form, repertory and meanings, in the artworks whose poetic openness proposes authorial challenges to their spectators. The main artistic reference and source of this research is the series Collective Self-Portrait (1987-), a set of participatory and interactive artworks that I propose as a dialogic and polyphonic repository of the collective identity, based on the principle of appropriation of the spectators as authors of their own identities in the corpus of the artwork. Summing up, the author-function experienced by the spectators, more precisely their spect-author-function, in creation/co-creation or recreation process in the context of participatory and interactive arts, holds profound implications for our understanding of art evolution as a collective phenomenon.

Neutron-rich nuclei of mass A=100-110 are of great interest for the study of nuclear structure far from stability. Previous experimental and theoretical studies suggest a complex evolution of deformation and collectivity in the isotopic chains of Zr, Mo, Ru and Pd.In order to extend information on the evolution of the collectivity towards higher spin states and more neutron-rich nuclei, lifetimes of excited states were measured in nuclei produced through a fusion-fission reaction in inverse kinematic at GANIL. Fission fragments were separated and identified in both A and Z with the high acceptance magnetic spectrometer VAMOS while the EXOGAM germanium detectors array was used for the coincident gamma-ray detection. Lifetimes of about twenty excited states were extracted using the plunger device of Cologne. This is the first RDDS measurement on fission fragments which are identified in A and Z on an event-by-event basis. The study of this mass region is completed by theoretical calculations using self consistent mean field and beyond mean field methods implemented with the Gogny force (D1S). The structure of the ground states and the excited states is described with Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov calculations with constraints placed on the axial and triaxial deformations. Individual excitations are investigated through blocking calculations and the high spin states are studied through cranking calculations. Finally, an approximated generator coordinate method (GCM+GOA) using the 5DCH hamiltonian is used to describe the low energy collective states and to interpret the experimental evolution of the collectivity.

O SUJEITO ENTRELÍNGUAS: UM CASO DE FUNCIONAMENTO SEMÂNTICO-SINTÁTICO EM PRODUÇÕES ESCRITAS DE ESTUDANTES HISPANOFALANTES DE PLE / THE SUBJECT BETWEEN LANGUES: A CASE OF SEMANTIC-SYNTATICAL FUNCTION IN WRITTEN PRODUCTIONS OF SPANISH-SPEAKING STUDENTS OF PORTUGUESE AS A FOREIGN LANGUESantos, Grazielle da Silva dos 06 February 2015 (has links)
Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / In accordance with the theoretical assumptions of the Semantics of the Event (Guimarães, 2005), this study aims to analyze the enunciative operation in the organizational plan of utterances produced by exchange students of Portuguese courses for Foreigners offered by Entrelínguas, searching for the effects of meaning produced by syntactic arrangements from the written production of these learners.Specifically, we aimed to analyze the effects of some less frequent constructions, from the point of view of Brazilian Portuguese speaker, for the inclusion of the subject in collectivity, in the constitution of the senses of langue - Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese -, releasing a look at the semantic-syntactical function of enunciative cuttings. To do so, first, we selected ten (10) productions of ten (10) students, cutting the utterances that reveal the inclusion of the subject in the collectivity. Subsequently, we divided the utterances into two groups that represent two distinct syntactic organizations. And finally, we have built a comparative table in relation to syntactic aspects of both languages - Spanish and Brazilian Portuguese referring: to the apparent discrepancy between the third person plural and the first person plural and the use of first person plural in the place of first person singular, in order to proceed the analysis: descriptive (the plan of saying) and enunciative (the plan of said). In the descriptive analysis, we performed acceptance tests (Guimarães, 2002a) - considering the standard of Brazilian Portuguese. In the enunciative analysis, we conducted our study from two enunciative scenes that reveal different ways of including the subject in collectivity, mobilizing the categories of locutor and enunciator diffused by Guimarães (2005). The results showed that, in terms of forms of langue, such formulations may be considered "mistakes" by the learner, given that the descriptive analysis shows that the syntactic arrangements are at least less frequent in Brazilian Portuguese. In the enunciative plan one can see the subject being signified by that division between langue. This division is the place of resistance in the langue. This place of resistance is what will mark the political position of this subject in the langage as it is marked in the langue by the form (we) and the way it organizes its enunciation (syntax). With it we could demonstrate that the internal organization of utterances is constituted as a mark in the langue that, in turn, will reveal the subjectivity and produce senses.

部落傳唱的新聲響——九零年代台灣原住民流行音樂的形成與展開 / The New Sounds of the Original Singing Songs: the Forming and Development of the Aboriginal Pop-Music in Taiwan’s 90s呂紹凡, Lu, Shao-Fan Unknown Date (has links)
The “Music” or “Singing” has a special position in Taiwan’s aboriginal culture. It is not only an indispensable element in the development of “Aboriginal literature” but also very important in the vast indigenous oral literature beyond written languages. Nowadays, Bob Dylan won the Nobel Prize for Literature as a singer songwriter. It indicates that the steady state of the “songs” between popular literature and classic literature once again been challenged or eliminated, while it also points out that the points of view that popular culture, entertainment industrial, and common people’s life as well as Pop-music are feasible to be part of “literature”.
To discuss the reason why “Taiwanese Aboriginal Pop-Music” became a type and how it worked, the thesis starts from the idea of two field, which is “oral literature” and "popular music”. In the year of 90s in Taiwan when the record companies were consolidated across different countries and the booming of the local awareness of the music and the multi-culturalism were as the key successful factors at that time. The axis of this study is the development that from the description of “Others”, the construction of “Identity” to the formation of “difference categories”. It demonstrated clearly in the development of western contemporary theories. It is not only a microcosm of the life course of an individual, but also closely corresponds to the ethnic experience of the indigenous people in Taiwan over the past centuries.
First, this dissertation research the social in natures of the periods reflected by aboriginal "oral folk songs” and the “Collectivity” of oral culture among them with the difference levels of identity experience. Then, I explored the key properties that arose when the oral folk songs entering the interface of pop-music. Second, to depict the formation of aboriginal pop-music, I discussed the music environment in Taiwan’s 90s according to three aspects of views, which are industry, creative production and cultural. At last, I analyzed the actual cases of the aboriginal pop-music by the theoretical perspective of “Pop-Music” research, which contains the discussions of its core values and boundary. It also been compared with the cases of other "oral" ethnic music globally, that formed the genre of music and influences mainstream pop music. In these wide range of topics and the research in the light of “Historical Narratology”, I tried to contoured a possible way to research the indigenous music or other music types and to express personal music experience. It depends on the aboriginal pop music, as a music type, has its own “Differential Autonomy” in its context, corresponding to the “Collectivity” of oral literature and the “Aboriginality” from “Others”.

Relationships of power: exploring teachers' emotions as experienced in interactions with their peers.Martin, Judith Violet 24 August 2009 (has links)
Emotions play a significant role in the lives of teachers, especially in their interactions with their workplace peers. This research uses a case study approach to explore this topic through the medium of an asynchronous on-line discussion group. Twelve public school teachers, eight women and four men, from BC, Canada, volunteered to participate anonymously in a 12 week on-line forum.
The study was guided by three research questions: 1) How do teachers make sense of their emotional interactions with their peers? 2) How do these understandings change through discussion with a group of peers over 12 weeks? 3) What understandings of the emotional processes of school culture emerge when teachers discuss and reflect on these emotional aspects of their work in a collaborative setting?
The participants responded to weekly focus questions and also initiated their own discussion topics. They were introduced to alternative perspectives of emotion, including the social constructionist, feminist, and discursive. They were asked to focus on everyday interactions with their peers and to suggest what the emotions they experienced and observed achieved within the group. They were also encouraged to pay attention to the feeling rules in their staff meetings and to notice which emotions they thought were deemed appropriate to be expressed and which were deemed inappropriate.
Initially the participants used a number of strategies based on the individualized and psychological perspectives of emotions to make sense of their interactions. During the discussion group they were able to discuss their interactions in a safe non-judgemental setting and to reinterpret them in light of new information. Competition, patriarchy, and neo-liberal education policies were seen to influence the dynamics of the workplace.
Two mechanisms which appeared to link the teachers’ individual, private experiences of emotions with the culture of the school were the use of the words “positive” and “negative” and the norms embedded in the feeling rules of each school. These mechanisms both constrained and allowed the expression of certain emotions, opinions, and points of view in the workplace, thereby highlighting the political role of emotions. Symbolically the forum represented a collective space within an individualized world.
