As orientações educativas contra-hegemônicas das décadas de 1980 e 1990 e os rebatimentos pós-modernos na didática a partir da visão de estudiosos / Counter-hegemonic educative orientations in the decades of 1980 and 1990, and post-modern impacts on the didactic field according to some scholars point of view.

Faria, Lenilda Rego Albuquerque de 15 June 2011 (has links)
This research aims at analyzing the scientific validity of the counter-hegemonic didactic-pedagogic approach developed in the decades of 1980 and 1990, in view of the disputes brought out by the postmodern way of thinking. In pursuing this objective, it seeks to answer the core question that guides the investigation: How are the scholars who fostered the movement for a critic didactic and had their epistemological bases grounded on the Marxism dialectic treating the questions posed by postmodernity, since its assumptions bring into question the main theses defended by dialectical historical materialism, with direct epistemological and praxticiological implications to the fields of pedagogy and didactic? Also a secondary question is posed: Is there an epistemological shift from a critical didactic to a post-modern didactic? The development of the theme comprises a theoretical study of the relevant bibliography and analyzes of interviews carried out with four representative scholars in the didactic field, namely, José C. Libâneo, Maria Rita N. S. Oliveira, Selma G. Pimenta, and Vera M. F. Candau; here the theoretical-methodological assumptions are Marxs theory of the Social Being, his dialectical method, and pedagogy seen as a science of, and for, educative praxis, and didactic seen as a theory of teaching in its concrete wholeness. As for the dialectical method, the references used are Marx (1979, 1988a, 2007), Lukács (1979, 2007), Kosik (1995), Kopnin (1978), Paulo Netto (2006, 2009) and Frigotto (2006); for pedagogy and didactic considerations, the references are Saviani (2005b, 2006, 2007b, 2008a), Libâneo (200a, 2008), Pimenta (2000, 2001, 2005), and Oliveira (1991, 1992). In the attempt to capture the mediations of the object under investigation, the post-modern way of thinking is discussed from the perspective presented by Harvey (1993), Eagleton (1998), Jameson (2004), and Anderson (2004); to support the concept of post-modernity chosen reference is made to Wood and Foster (1999) and Paulo Netto (2010). The research highlights the following nuclear categories: counter-hegemonic pedagogies, hegemony, post-modernity, critic, praxis, science, education, culture, pedagogy and didactic. The results show that, in relation to the research question, for all the interviewed scholars critical didactic is not changing into post-modern didactic, but they concede that some of the post-modern ideas are already present in the area of didactic. As for the manner those didactic scholars deal with the theoretical framework, there are indications that they consider that critical didactic, especially the segment inspired by Marxism, is important and has contributions, and is still valid in present days; this position is shared by Libâneo, Oliveira, and Pimenta. Also there are signs that those three professors have different forms of approaching Marx´s theory, and particularly Candau favors an intercultural critic didactic in the debate with opposing postmodern ideas. The research supports the validity and pertinence of the counter-hegemonic position launched in the 1980s and attacked by the post-modern trend along the 1990s. It also highlights the necessity and validity of the history-critical pedagogy due to its objectivity in human formation, one of its tenets in the reflection on education and labor. The task of didactic is to contribute with the development of teachers pedagogical consciousness. In the teaching situation the final goal of the educative process is to raise students comprehension from the syncretic level to the level of synthesis.

Camillo, Juliano 15 September 2015 (has links)
In recent years the existence of scientific disciplines in the school curricula has been justified in terms of democratic participation of individuals in a society increasingly permeated by issues in which science and technology play a pivotal role. We argue, however, that in the Research in Science Education field the relationships between individual teaching-learning processes and the participation in the collectivity are analyzed under dualistic perspectives, due to cognitive-individualistic perspectives of human development that naturalize human processes and expect to derive from that a model of knowledge application and political action. Overcoming this dualism is only possible, at this historical moment, from a concrete alternative to those cognitive-individualistic perspectives, which express, in the ontological-epistemological level, the unity between human development, production/consumption of knowledge and maintenance of the status quo/ transformation of the reality. We aim to discuss human development under a historical perspective. We build on the convergences and complementarities between Activity Theory and Freirean perspective to give rise to a set of categories (Problem-in-itself; Problem-for-itself; and Ontology of being fully human), which we call Potential Activity. Those categories are able to express the objective dimension of human problems and the possibility to appropriate such problems in order to build human individuality and the human collectivity consciously. Thus, within this theoretical perspective, the issue about the relevance of science education and the role of a specific set of knowledge (scientific one) on human development can be concretely posed.

Ensino superior em design de moda no Brasil: práxis e (in)sustentabilidade / Higher education in fashion design in Brazil: praxis and (un)sustainability.

Lima, Verena Ferreira Tidei de 25 October 2018 (has links)
This dissertation proposes to reflect on fashion design higher education, in Brazil, from the perspective of a critical and active formation regarding (un)sustainability. The research is qualitative and developed under the historical-dialectical materialism epistemological approach, and is structured in such a way as to represent its development. Regarding a theoretical perspective, the research adopts, as a starting point, the unsustainability scenario, whose historical and analytical path allows us to understand its close relationship with fashion design. It seeks to understand, from a critical and contextualized look at fashion design activity, its potential in relation to sustainability. By admitting the necessary transformation on fashion design practice, in parallel, through examining the educational paradigms of design teaching, it admits their equally necessary transformation, and before the outlined scenario of fashion design higher education, in Brazil, it identifies in the predisposition of bachelor\'s degrees to include the issue of sustainability in their curricula, a relevant field to be explored. From the understanding that it is essential to go beyond a pro forma inclusion of the theme in the curricula, and therefore of the need to explore in depth the reality of fashion design higher education, the research investigates, from an empirical perspective, the situation of three undergraduate courses in Brazil regarding (un)sustainability, seeking to understand them in their plurality and singularity: Fashion Design bachelor\'s degree at Anhembi Morumbi University (SP), Fashion Design bachelor\'s degree at State University of Londrina (PR), and Design - Fashion bachelor\'s degree at Federal University of Ceará (CE). In addition, it also investigates the points of view from professors and researchers from England, Finland and Denmark who are involved with the object. The study reveals unexpected impressions, or of insufficient explanation if only the contents initially tackled in the theoretical framework are considered. The insights that make up the daily life of the courses in Brazil - institutional, teaching and student - reveal underlying questionings to the main question that guides this research, and infer that a critical and active formation regarding (un)sustainability relates to, beyond the contents, the way in which they are articulated. The international views, not focusing on specific contents, but on how these are articulated and their related paths and challenges, echo and complement the analysis realized in a national context. The freirian critical pedagogy then emerges as a formidable and fruitful field for dialogue, and the theoretical framework that builds up from it makes it possible to complete the reflection on fashion design higher education, in Brazil, from the perspective of a critical and active formation regarding (un)sustainability: the formation that allows the student to challenge the status quo, through his/her practice, in his/her field of action; where fashion design is taught, learned and practiced as a possible act of transforming proposition.

Principals' attitudes toward the use of culturally relevant pedagogy and culturally responsive leadership in predominantely [sic] African American schools / Principals' attitudes toward the use of culturally relevant pedagogy and culturally responsive leadership in predominantly African American schools

Unknown Date (has links)
The purpose of this study was to determine principals' attitudes toward the use of culturally relevant pedagogy and culturally responsive leadership in predominately African American schools. Culturally relevant pedagogy, culturally responsive teaching, culturally responsive urban leadership, and ethnohumanist leadership are the study's theoretical underpinnings. The research question was as follows: To what extent, if any, do principals of predominately African American schools promote culturally relevant pedagogy and utilize culturally responsive leadership? The sample for this mixed methods study was secondary school principals and teachers in predominately African American schools. Seven principals and 43 teachers participated in the study. The research methods used were vignettes, interviews, surveys, content analysis, and document analysis. Vignettes containing 10 scenarios of principals performing culturally responsive leadership practices were distributed to principals who were asked to rate them with a Likert scale. In addition, principals were asked 13 open ended questions about culturally relevant pedagogy and culturally responsive leadership in an interview. Teachers were asked to complete a 10 question on-line survey about their principals' leadership from a culturally responsive perspective. Reviews of school improvement plans, principals' messages, and mission and vision statements were also conducted. / The study found that (a) principals admitted that they had a limited knowledge of the concepts of culturally relevant pedagogy and culturally responsive leadership, (b) principals theoretically viewed culturally relevant pedagogy and culturally responsive leadership as useful tools in educating African American student populations as evidenced by their responses to the vignettes, (c) principals had a general understanding of African American culture and exhibited sensitivity to the cultural needs of African American students, (d) stressed the managing of difficult students or the diffusing of problematic situations as a benefit of having teachers trained in culturally relevant pedagogy and (e) principals in the study did not actively encourage teachers to utilize culturally relevant pedagogy as a means to improve the academic achievement of African American students. / by Tressey Weaver. / Thesis (Ph.D.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2009. / Includes bibliography. / Electronic reproduction. Language choice in children’s animated TV shows

Unknown Date (has links)
This study aims to analyze three popular U.S. children’s TV shows – Dora the Explorer (Nickelodeon), Maya & Miguel (PBS) and Handy Manny (Disney Channel) – in terms of their incorporation of Spanish. Qualitative and quantitative measures were used to assess the frequency and types of code switching both in the context of bilingualism and language pedagogy. The study revealed different strategies of language choice and socio-cultural objectives for each show. A close analysis of language choice in the three children’s TV programs revealed distinct approaches to TV writing in the name of raising awareness of ethnic diversity, developing cultural literacy, and brand marketing. / Includes bibliography. / Thesis (M.A.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2014. / FAU Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection

A critical analysis of first generation black male college students’ perceptions of their preparation for college level mathematics

Unknown Date (has links)
President Obama’s 2014 “My Brother’s Keeper” initiative responds to the continuing educational disparities that the No Child Left Behind Act was intended to have addressed. The preoccupation with standardized testing and accountability over the past decade has revealed evidence of disparities in achievement between Black male students and their White counterparts. Critical Race Theorists have framed these persistent disparities as evidence of the opportunity gap and have advocated culturally responsive pedagogy that would facilitate students’ academic success. / Includes bibliography. / Dissertation (Ph.D.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2015. / FAU Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection

O ensino da dramaturgia shakespeariana no Brasil: realidade e perspectivas / The teaching of Shakespearean dramaturgy in the Brazil: reality and perspectives

Dudalski, Sirlei Santos 14 June 2007 (has links)
This study, which has an ethnographic base, maps the teaching of Shakespeare in Brazilian universities and raises literary, educational and methodological questions. It is thus an interdisciplinary study but does not lose sight of the specific qualities of the dramatic text. Using the educational philosophy of Paulo Freire and his followers, especially Henry Giroux, bell hooks and Moacir Gadotti, it examines the teaching and study of Shakespeare at the beginning of the 21st century, which has been marked by the influence of the cinema, television and Internet. The methodology used includes the observation of classes at the Federal Universities of Santa Catarina and Rio de Janeiro and the University of São Paulo, where classes were observed during a period of four years. Interviews were made with university teachers of Literatures in English, both Shakespearians and non-Shakespearians, in a number of Brazilian states. Questionnaires were also used to discover the opinions of students and teachers. In addition to the work of Paulo Freire, that of Elaine Showalter and the Brazilian professor Ligia Chiappini were also used to provide a theoretical framework. The desire for transforming actions, which can be seen in critical pedagogy and which is rooted in the thinking of Paulo Freire, and the practice of certain teachers, the voices of students, the majority of whom are from the University of São Paulo, helps us to realise the need to reflect on our educational actions. This action is also a political action, thereby widening the possibilities of debate for a more critical teaching.

Pedagogical Catalysts of Civic Competence: The Development of a Critical Epistemological Model for Community-Based Learning

Stokamer, Stephanie Taylor 01 January 2011 (has links)
Civic competence is critical to the successful functioning of pluralistic democracies. Developing the knowledge, skills, and motivations for effective democratic participation is a national and global imperative that many higher education institutions have embraced through the teaching strategies of community-based learning and service-learning. Yet, scant research literature has focused on the relationship between pedagogical approaches and civic competence outcomes. This five-year longitudinal study of 11,000 students in 700 senior-level capstone courses at an urban research university empirically tested a new theoretically constructed model of civic competence development in order to identify epistemological and pedagogical elements that enhance civic competence. Eight epistemological domains embedded within four components of civic competence (knowledge, skills, attitudes, and actions) were analyzed utilizing item and factor analysis. The model was extremely robust (r = .917) for civic competence development and indicated strong effect size for multiple pedagogical elements of course design, teaching strategies, and integration of community service. Significantly, the greatest effect for developing civic competence is pedagogical incorporation of diversity and social justice issues. Thus, the Critical Pedagogy Model of Civic Competence offers faculty a heuristic taxonomy of teaching and learning strategies to utilize diversity of thought and interaction in community-based learning as a catalyst for transforming students into competent democratic participants.
