Corruption at work : a conservation of resources perspective / La corruption au travail : une approche par la théorie de préservation des ressources

Kakavand, Benyamin 01 July 2016 (has links)
Workplace corruption is a global issue for private and public organizations. It has beenrecognized as a costly phenomenon having negative consequences in various aspects ofeconomic and human development. Since corrupt acts and behaviors of individuals atworkplace are a challenging subject for managers, this doctoral dissertation seeks to exploreorganizational corruption and also to emphasize the importance of organizational corruptionstudy from a managerial perspective. This study provides elements to better understand howto prevent and to control corrupt acts and behaviors at work. The research model isconstructed on the basis of conservation of resources (COR) theory of Hobfoll (1989).Corruption motivation is theorized through COR theory and within this framework, itproposes corruption as a strategy to prevent the perceived loss of valued motivationalresources. Specially, this research investigates the direct impact of powerlessness, sense ofmastery, distributive and procedural justice on workplace corruption. Furthermore, it studiesthe moderating effect of transparency and caring climate on the relationship betweenpowerlessness, sense of mastery, procedural justice, distributive justice, and workplacecorruption. Sample consists of 575 employees from international organizations havecontributed to this research. Results highlight that powerlessness positively, sense of masteryand procedural justice negatively impact on workplace corruption and deviance. However, distributive justice only negatively impacts on workplace corruption. Results mostly validateour principal hypotheses but suggest that the nature of corruption relates to the type ofresources felt threatened.

La politique de lutte contre la déviance fiscale dans le contexte de crise internationale / policy against fiscal deviance in International Crisis situation

Theodore, Emmanuel 15 December 2017 (has links)
The public finance crisis of 2008 led to a proliferation of public revelations by the media of tax avoidance behavior. International mobilization demonstrates the limit of national legal action. This thesis proceeds from the principle that the legal scope of tax evasion becomes limited and penal repression is insufficient. Public policy is now focused on tax deviance, which is a broader notion and representative of the reality of the phenomenon of circumvention of mandatory levies. Measures adopted to combat fiscal arrangements contribute to budgetary performance because of the challenge of filling public deficits. The thesis is therefore based on the demonstration of the difficulty of determining even reprehensible behavior and on the limit of penal repression. This part begins with the difficulty of apprehending the texts and the weakness of the criminal prosecution. It relies on statistical texts, and revelations from private organizations.Second, the demonstration of the importance of recovery, which is manifested by the organization of the speed of payment of the tax and the limitation of contentious actions. This part relies more on the testimonies of agents, judges, associations.

«Attrape-moi si tu peux» : Consommateurs ordinaires et rôle de la matérialité dans la pérennisation d’une pratique illégale de consommation / "Catch me if you can" : Ordinary consumers and role of materiality in the sustainability of an illegal practice of consumption

Poels, Alix 08 December 2015 (has links)
How are some illegal practices sustained? Prior studies have depicted how marginal, illegitimate or illicit practices could be integrated to the market. However, their sustainability is understudied in consumer research.Drawing on Neo Institutional Theory, our main purpose in this research is to understand how ordinary consumers and materiality through institutional work sustain an illegal practice. By examining the case of illegal downloading in France from 2008 to 2013, and a qualitative method, based on interviews and secondary data, we show how artefacts are enabling the illegal practice and shape the consumption of pirated content. Results expose how an illegal practice is institutionalized through materiality. Our main contribution is to bring an understanding on how materiality may destabilize an institutional order. We offer also some managerial implications regarding the legal offer of digitalized contents.

However, in the recent times, the data of women imprisonment for their involvement in this kind of illicit trade have pointed to a fresh perspective in which there are gradual insertion of them in such practices criminalized. If before the explanations of the accession of women to drug trafficking occurred for the account of affective relationships, the study presented here, a pioneer about the female criminality in Goiás, points out a change in behavioral in the entrance of women in the illicit drug trade, pointing to certain autonomy of choice and decision on their part. In that sense, the aim employee in this dissertation, the theoretical contributions through Symbolic Interaction, objective sought to understand the insertion of the women incarcerated for the crime of drug trafficking over the experiences lived by them.

Media: Effects on Attitudes toward Police and Fear of Criminal Victimization.

Edwards, Bradley 05 May 2007 (has links)
This research investigated the effects of the media on attitudes toward police and fear of crime, while controlling for selected audience trait variables. A self-report questionnaire was administered to 351 students at East Tennessee State University. The survey consisted of demographic and audience trait variables. The survey also contained items that measured the respondants' media consumption. Respondents were asked, for example, which format they typically get news from (e.g., newspaper, television), how often they watch television, and how real they perceive crime related television to be. Multivariate analysis showed that demographic and audience trait variables explained more variance than did media-related variables.

Initial Development of the Sex Offender Attitude Scale.

Bogle, Brandon Coy 19 December 2009 (has links)
As long as the public maintains staunch and unwarranted negative attitudes toward sex offenders, little hope remains for released sex offenders to successfully reintegrate into society. Therefore, it is in the interest of society that we understand the nature of views of sex offenders so that attempts can be made to promote maximal reintegration and preventing recidivism. To date no valid psychometric instrument exists that measures attitudes toward sex offenders. Therefore, the purpose of this project is to develop such an instrument that will accurately measure stigma associated with sex offenders. Unrotated Prinicipal Components Factor Analysis revealed a single interpretable factor comprised of 17 of the original 27 items with factor loadings of .4 or greater. Chronbach's Alpha Reliability Procedure (a=.88) indicates the SOAS is a valid instrument. The findings suggest possible uses of the SOAS in a variety of areas of sex offender rehabilitation, including treatment and reintegration programs.

Obstacles, Transitions, & Perspectives: An In-Depth Look at the Spectacle of Deviant Bodies

Manning, Taylor C 01 May 2015 (has links)
This autoethnographic study is an attempt to humanize the deviant behaviors and bodies of eating disordered and physically disabled persons in Western culture. The narratives included within are from the author’s own personal experiences as a heterosexual, eating disordered, disabled man. The narratives unfold chronologically in ways that explicate the transitions between identities and the onset and acceptance of each. The goal of this study is to unveil aspects of both eating disorders and disabilities as they relate to the locus of attention surrounding individuals that experience them. The researcher argues that the attention a deviant body draws from others may form the deviant body as a spectacle that can be either eagerly sought after, or reluctantly ascribed to, the individual that holds it.
