Fragment av forntida Helgö : En osteoarkeologisk och tafonomisk studie med fokus på djur, rum, praktik och handling utifrån animalt benmaterial från Husgrupp 4 på Helgö

Wahlstedt, Sabina January 2019 (has links)
Zooarchaeological material from prehistoric settlements usually make up a large amount of the archaeological record. Despite this, research on the material is seldom utilized to its full potential. This is very much the case for the famous iron age settlement at Helgö. Therefore, in this thesis animal bones recovered from building group 4 at Helgö were analyzed using both osteological and taphonomic, as well as spatial variables as a mean to gain a better understanding of various aspects of the settlement and life at prehistoric Helgö. The results from the zooarchaeological analysis provide insight in social activities and practices concerning both human and animal interactions. The animals are found to have been an important part of the lives of the people at Helgö. Both spatial and structural differences in the material reveal various attitudes towards the animals and bring to light a diversity of activities and practices surrounding the settlement and Helgö.

<p>This study examined constructions of horses and means staff working with horses parallel to therapy in institutional care ascribes to horses. A narrative method was used and the theoretical framework was social constructionism. A question was asked to the narratives: How can practice in institutional care be understood through these stories? The result showed different pictures of institutional care. Horses seem to provide a multi-faceted therapeutic tool. Through the horses staff could establish relations built on trust with their clients. The stable-environment and the horses provided healthy recreation and a social competence usable for clients in life. The constructions of horses also seemed related to the means ascribed to them in the daily life of the institution. So far there has been little research about animals in Swedish institutional care. If there are animals in institutions they probably fill some kind of function for social work and therefore the phenomena needs to be further examined. Especially as research claim economical and social benefits in using animals in human health care. Animals have been looked upon as trivial but the academic discipline dealing with relations between animals and humans, anthrozoology, has gained respect and is now considered serious.</p>

Att läsa för hunden : en metod för läsfärdighetsträning? / Reading for the dog : a reading skills method?

Dirfeldt, Rebecka, Persson, Cecilia January 2008 (has links)
Since we came in contact with a newspaper article about children who were reading for special trained dogs, our curiosity for how we could use animals in teaching purposes was awaken. Our starting point is too study how the children can train theirs reading training skills. We delimited our study to the younger children, in second grade, and their experiences of reading aloud to an animal. We chose to do a qualitative study there we used interviews; we interviewed sex students, because we were interested to study the students understandings and thoughts about reading for an animal. In the result we saw that when the students talked about the reading experience they all mention that it was funny to read to their dog. Someone described it like it was the same as reading for the parents or teacher and some answered that it was harder to read to the dog because the dog couldn´t help with pronunciations or wrong readings. The students gave answer that pointed towards that animals can affect the teaching environment positively. The literature that we reed means that children see animals as their friends and they can easily create a relation to the animals. Animals have a calming effect on children which we got confirmed through the interview answers. In the literature it emerged that animals are important communication partners for children. Within the socioculturel perspective emphasizes the learning within a social interaction. Our conclusion is that closeness to animals, to which the children have a close relation to, can make content method to the reading training skills

Mer djur i socialt arbete? : socionomers röster / More Animals in Social Work? : Social Workers' Voices

Torgersen, Lorraine January 2015 (has links)
This study focuses on the use of animals in social work from the perspective of social workers. The purpose of this study is to examine social workers’ experiences of animal assisted social work and how social workers view the integration of animals in various fields of social work. The research is based on a qualitative method and four semi-structured interviews were conducted with social workers. The theories incorporated in the study are Attachment Theory and Sense of Coherence (SOC). The following results are presented: Social workers are considered to have a more comprehensive understanding of clients compared to their associates who do not hold a degree in Social Work. The Social Work Programme prepares you for work in various roles in numerous work places and the social workers claim to sympathise with the many aspects which affect clients. Some of the positive aspects of incorporating animals in social work include opportunities to experience the outdoors and exercise when spending time with the animals but also the additional satisfaction of being able to offer clients these benefits. The social workers are aware of potential safety risks in handling and associating with the animals and these safety risks appear to have a negative impact on animal assisted social work. According to the social workers, animal allergies can be minimized and should not be the focal point. SOC and its three components – Comprehensibility, Manageability and Meaningfulness have been applied to the social workers experiences of animal assisted social work and their experiences shared indicate that animals can hold properties of an attachment figure. Animals have a calming effect on clients, and assist in the connection between social worker and client.
