Vad gör du med oss, Doktor Glas? : Karaktärsframställning, berättargrepp och effekt i Hjalmar Söderbergs Doktor Glas.

Martinsson, Emelie January 2020 (has links)
Doktor Glas by the Swedish author Hjalmar Söderberg, was published over a hundred years ago, in 1905 in Sweden. Söderberg received both praise and criticism, the latter getting more attention because of the novel's unethical plot about a doctor that murders his patient to save the woman he secretly adores. The aim of this essay is to examine the novel's character description in terms of narrative approach, and the effect it is likely to have on the reader. My theory is that Söderberg "plants" affect and emotion into the character description of the protagonist Glas, and I use narratology as a method to support this theory. In my analysis I present different approaches and techniques that Söderberg uses to portray the novel's main character in order to ensure that Glas will be impossible to categorize psychologically – is he evil, is he good? The description of him makes it impossible to know and it challenges the readers perception of him. My conclusion is that Glas, due to Söderberg's narrative techniques, has become an insoluble riddle that still, a hundred yars after the publication of the novel, fascinates the Swedish literary world.

Functions of inversion in Thomas Mann's Doctor Faustus

Loumena, Patricia Lee 01 January 1978 (has links) (PDF)
Several guiding principles should be established to discuss the function of original sin in Doctor Faustus. It will be considered synonymous with the Fall, the Adamic myth. It is not to say that original sin must necessarily refer to strict Christian doctrine. It explains the moral implication of man's position in the divine hierarchy, as well as symbolizes the presence of the demonic throughout his cultural consciousness of sin. For the purpose of this essay, original sin concentrates upon several primary factors: the quest for knowledge, the succumbing to sensual temptation, the transgression through pride, and the psychology of the creative process.

Patientutvärdering av Dr. Cecilia med rekommenderade framtida implementationer / Patient evaluation of Dr. Cecilia with recommended future implementations

Kilinc, Derya, Dahn, Leonardo January 2014 (has links)
Today, adolescent females represent the majority of people suffering from eating disorders with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa and EDNOS (eating disorder not otherwise specified) being the most common diagnoses. Mando Group AB treats patients with eating disorders and has for the sake of the patients developed the computer software ‘Doctor Cecilia’ which is a virtual caretaker to whom patients may direct their queries. Mando Group AB has stated that the usage of the software has not reached the desirable level amongst their patients. Moreover, the software has not been subject to an evaluation. The purpose of this thesis has been to produce suggestions of potential improvements for ‘Doctor Cecilia’ by consulting patients in order to evaluate these improvements as well as the software in general. As such, an investigation was conducted at two Mandometer-clinics in order to clarify the opinions of the patients regarding the software itself and the potential improvements which are presented by this thesis. The results showed that the patients were in favor of the implementation of for instance voice response, two-way communication and the opportunity to see frequently asked questions. The results of this thesis have been used to produce recommended implementations that could improve the software and eventually increase its usage.

Lättlästa adaptioner : Skönlitterära klassiker i undervisningen / Easy-to-read adaptations : Literary classics in education

Hultgren Karppinen, Kelly, Larsson, Katrina January 2024 (has links)
The purpose of the following study is to examine how reading is influenced by the use of easy-to-read adaptations of literary classics compared to the original works in an educational context. The novels forming the basis of the analysis are Charlotte Brontë's Jane Eyre (1847) and the adaptation written by Malin Lindroth, as well as Hjalmar Söderberg's Doktor Glas (1905) and the adaptation written by Tomas Dömstedt. In our study, we focus on how complex motifs and themes transition from the original works to the adaptations. The motifs that emerge in Jane Eyre are class affiliation, violence, gender oppression and religious oppression, which together constitute the overarching theme of female emancipation. The motifs that emerge in Doktor Glas are superhuman ideal, desire and disgust and doubt which together constitute the theme of moral guilt. Using an adaptation theoretical perspective based on Linda Hutcheon's and Brian McFarlane's respective theory descriptions, and a comparative method, we analyze how the motifs and themes transfer. The results show that class affiliation, violence, and gender oppression in Jane Eyre and superhuman ideal and some aspects of desire and disgust in Doktor Glas are transferred while maintaining fidelity to the essence. Furthermore, the results of the study show that there are opportunities to use the easy-to-read fiction for a didactic purpose, but that the easy-to-read literature must be supplemented with parts from the original work in some cases.

Nilsson, Adam, Huang, Mingshi January 2021 (has links)
Digital healthcare is a relatively new market which brings along some challenges. The transfer from a traditional physical healthcare with its natural trustworthiness and reliability for the consumers to a digital space is a major challenge. Along with the fact that the new market comes with a lot of competition that forces the digital caregivers to distinguish themselves with their brands. Since the market for digital healthcare is relatively new there is a gap in the knowledge regarding how consumers perceive the brands of the digital caregivers, which is the basis of the purpose of this study.  The purpose of this study is to map how consumers perceive the brands in the market of digital healthcare. To answer the purpose the study uses a deductive approach including theories about customer-based brand equity, brand personality and brand attitude. Through a quantitative method with a cross-sectional design and a survey, data has been collected to be analyzed with the theories to answer the research questions and purpose of the study. The digital caregivers that are included in the study is Kry, Doktor.se, Min Doktor, Doktor24 and 1177 Vårdguiden. The conclusions that could be drawn based on the analysis was that the brands who succeeded the most in creating brand awareness were also the brands that were perceived in a more positive light by the consumers. The analysis also showed that some of the digital caregivers brands had not yet been able to build the brand awareness that can lead to a more positive perception and therefore was perceived in a neutral and negative manner. 1177 Vårdguiden differentiated itself in most aspects in relation to the private digital caregivers since they already had an established brand prior to the birth of the digital healthcare market.

Zábranův Doktor Živago: Okolnosti vzniku a analýza vybraných překladatelských řešení. / Zabrana's Doctor Zhivago: The Making and Analysis of Selected Translation Solutions

Klimeš, Lukáš January 2016 (has links)
(in English): This thesis deals with a version of Boris Pasternak's novel Doctor Zhivago, translated into Czech by Jan Zábrana and Jiří Kovtun. The aims of the thesis are: (1) to follow the journey of the original exile edition from Italy to communist Czechoslovakia, (2) to clarify how both translators contributed to the poetry part of the novel, (3) to outline Zábrana's translation method a comparison of chosen typewritten versions of the translation from various phases of its creation. The primary source of material for all the individual objectives is Zábrana's inheritance, which answers the question why Jiří Kovtun's name does not appear in the first Czech edition of Doctor Zhivago (1990), although he is listed along with Zábrana as the translator of the poetry part in the remaining three editions (2003, 2005, 2011). The original material from the inheritance as well as Marie Zábranová's testimony emphasize the sequence of events that influenced the creation of Zábrana's translation. The final analysis compares chosen typewritten versions of the novel's eighth chapter with the first Czech edition and describes how Zábrana worked. The thesis aims to be beneficial for the Czech history of translation and contribute to the current knowledge about the translation method of Jan Zábrana. Keywords Jan...
