Stressade situationer och höga ambitioner : Studentgolfspelares upplevelser och hanteringar av olika scenarier i den dubbla karriären / Stressful situations and high ambitions : Student golfer's experiences and coping strategies with scenarios in the dual career

Holmlund, Atle January 2023 (has links)
The purpose of this study was to investigate student golfers' experiences and coping strategies of scenarios within the dual career. The study was of a qualitative nature where data collection was carried out through ten semi-structured interviews where the age of the participants varied between 20 and 32 years (M=25.00, SD=3.79). The interview guide was formed based on the dual career assistance (DCA) framework (Linnér, 2021) and previous studies in the area, including Linnér et al. (2021). Based on the four core challenges (type- scenarios), maintaining sports, studies, sports and studies, and maintaining personal life, the data was analyzed through a thematic analysis. The results showed that the biggest challenges for dealing with scenarios were planning and creating a structure for everyday life. Problems with planning could lead to stress and lack of results either in studies or sports, which contributed to a downward spiral. Important competences for getting through scenarios turned out to be prioritization in planning and knowing what is most important now. Self-discipline also emerged as an essential resource within the dual career. As support, a flexible environment with individuals who support the athlete in both school and golf was described as a source of security among the participants. According to the results, the most prominent coping strategies for challenging scenarios were: managing the time available, prioritizing what was important at the moment, and taking one thing at a time. Furthermore, the result was discussed in relation to the previous research and the DCA framework. This was followed up with implications and suggestions for future research as well as a conclusion.

Vilka dubbla karriär-upplevelser predicerar mental hälsa hos idrottselever på gymnasienivå? : En tvärsnittsstudie / Which dual career experiences predict mental health in upper secondary sport high school in student-athletes? : A cross-sectional study

Hagehall, Sara, Fallesen, Julia January 2024 (has links)
Mental health is an important resource for a successful and developing athleticcareer (Schinke et al., 2018), which also results in better performance (Henriksen et al.,2019). Commitment to a dual career (DC) seems to be beneficial to the athlete inrelation to several aspects (Aquilina, 2013; Stambulova et al., 2015; Henriksen et al.,2020). A DC can also bring several challenges for a student-athlete (Brown et al., 2015;Stambulova et al., 2015; Linnér, Stambulova & Ziegert, 2021), which could contributeto mental illness instead (Stambulova et al., 2020). Therefore, the aim of this study wasto examine which DC-experiences predict mental health in student-athletes at uppersecondary school in sport. 405 student-athletes participated in this study, 141 women,259 men and 5 participants who identified themselves as neither male nor female. Allparticipants combined studies with sports and were between 15–19 years old (M=16.8;SD=3.3). Data was collected via web survey. Two multiple regressions analysis were conducted. The result of this study shows that DC-experiences such as DC-support, DC-obstacles, DC-competence, and DC-benefits predict mental health. In conclusion, student athletes who have more DC-support, DC-benefits, obtain DC-competencies and have fewer obstacles in their DC, maintain DC-balance and therefore seem to experience better mental health.

Marital equity among dual-career couples: a longitudinal perspective

Geasler, Margie J. Swindlehurst 14 October 2005 (has links)
Longitudinal data from 113 dual-career couples are used to explore the relationship between perceptions of marital equity and well-being and distress in marital, professional, and parental roles, how perceptions of equity change over time, and to examine efforts to restore equity. Differences in well-being and distress in roles are identified by gender and equity group. study results indicate that for both spouses, perceptions of inequity are associated with lower marital well-being and higher marital distress; however, under benefited wives reported higher professional well-being and under benefited husbands reported higher parental well-being. Couple perceptions of equity decreased between 1986 and 1990; under benefited husbands were more likely to use threats and bargaining to negotiate for relationship changes while wives sought counseling. Results demonstrate the importance of using multiple measures of well-being and distress and including gender and equity type in investigations of marital equity. / Ph. D.

Women, work, and family: ways to well-being

Stripling, Mary Ann Hamilton 13 October 2005 (has links)
The purpose of this research is to identify combinations of variables that most affect well-being among employed women. A hypothesized model of the stress and coping process examines the influence of situational demands on mediators, and mediators on well-being. Job and family strain, as well as coping resources such as spousal support, social support, and coping strategies were proposed to mediate between situational demands, represented by husband’s chore time, number of children, job flexibility, job hours, career stage, and job status and the outcome variable, well-being. Data from a national sample of 277 married, employed women representing dual-employed families were subjected to path analytic analyses using LISREL 7. Findings generally supported the proposed model. Results suggest that both role strain and coping resources mediated the stressor effects of situational demands on well-being. / Ph. D.

Aspects of professional career success and the implications for life skills education

De Villiers, Sarah Leone 01 1900 (has links)
The contemporary world of work is undergoing far-reaching changes as a result of global economic developments and technological progress. This has necessitated an appraisal of the school curriculum in order to identify the life skills necessary for vocational success. As the concept of a lifetime career has become obsolete, the accent has shifted to a life chance approach in education. This approach emphasises the wide repertoire of life skills required by learners for successful participation in a range of career possibilities and in the sphere of their personal lives, the two being perceived as inseparable. A literature survey investigated the development of professional careers in historical perspective, the contribution of developmental theorists regarding trends in contemporary career progression, various dimensions of success and what motivates successful men and women in their public and private domains. Furthermore, the adjustments required by dual career couples were examined. Various dimensions of life skills for lifespan competence were investigated, with particular reference to South African society. The life orientation approach currently advocated by the new curriculum in South Africa was briefly described. A qualitative study of the life histories of twelve professionals, forty five years and over was conducted in natural settings in order to explore the life skills responsible for career and personal success. Semi-structured interviews elicited descriptive data from participants, selected by judgement sampling. Data was analysed, discussed and synthesised. The major findings emanated: Success in public and private domains was only possible if a balance between them was maintained. Family background, values and educational experiences created a facilitating environment which contributed to early character development. Certain enabling attributes were essential to achieve both career success and self-fulfilment, even among the less privileged participants. Personal obstacles were confronted and managed. Self-discipline, time management and the maintenance of a healthy lifestyle was vital. The interpenetration of public and private domains was emphasised. A sound work ethic and healthy interpersonal relationships with family, colleagues and the community were crucial. Middle and late adulthood emerged as periods of continuing, dynamic self-development. Based on these findings, recommendations for relevant life skills education were proposed. / Educational Studies / D. Ed. (Comparative Education)

Chen, Chung-Chia Unknown Date (has links)
關鍵詞:知識管理、企業概念傘、雙軌生涯制度,知識創造,能耐積蓄 / In this knowledge economic era, “people” and “knowledge” are very essential to keep the enterprises’ sustainable competence. Hence, based on the survey of books and papers about knowledge management, this thesis distills diverse perspectives and best practices into eight issues for further study, they are as follows: (1) Is there any positive correlation between “organizational culture” and “organizational behavior”? For an organizational culture that encourages people to express their opinions and ideas without any concerns, can we really have the distinguishable perception that people really behave so in this circumstance? (2) Is there any positive correlation between “managers’ behavior” and “subordinates’ behavior”? If managers are willing to mentor subordinates, willing to share their knowledge and skills, can it become a driving force to make subordinates behave the same? (3) As we know, money, reputation, friendship and reciprocal, all these four factors affect the extent of knowledge-sharing willingness and behavior, but can we figure out the strength order of these four factors? If we can, then we may devise a better, more effective incentive system to maximize the synergy of knowledge-sharing. (4) If the solutions to a problem are ambiguous and equivocal, is it true that more than half the people can not accept this situation? (5) If the rational analysis conflicts with your instinct, which one do you trust? The issue 4 and 5 are actually discussing the varieties of cognitive style. (6) For dual career ladder, is it true that more than half the people give higher evaluation to managerial ladder than technical one? Is it true that more than half the people regard the technical ladder as an incentive? (7) Is it true that more than half the people who are not clear about the concept umbrella of the company? (8) Based on nine indicators about knowledge management, conduct surveys of the four cases, and try to find out the strength and weakness of each case. By the data analysis and case studies, this thesis has found out several facts, and then proposes a platform for knowledge creation and capability building. The platform is composed of five units, they are as follows: (1) Instill good and appropriate cultures. (2) Put dual career ladder into practice. (3) Establish knowledge steward system. (4) Establish systematic procedure as the guide for the knowledge creation and capability building activities. (5) Find out the necessary auxiliary measures for knowledge management, put them into practice. With the platform constructed by the five units, we believe that each enterprise is able to construct a unique environment and atmosphere of its own, which in itself is beneficial to nurture and consolidate the core competence. Finally, we hope this thesis has shed light on the enterprises, and provided some intellectual stimuli for those people who are interested in knowledge management. A mãe que trabalha fora: a criança e a família em relação ao trabalho materno / The working mother: the child and family in relation to maternal employment

Esteca, Fabiana Mara 10 May 2012 (has links)
This study aimed to investigate how the variable \"out-of-home work\" affects the constitution of the place of the mother to the child. We used a methodology of field research, qualitative in nature, from the comparative study of six middle-class families in São Paulo. We executed semi-directed interviews with the couples and applied the Procedure of Family Drawings with Stories, proposed by Walter Trinca (1997), with the children. Our study sought to articulate the knowledge gained from the history of the trajectory of the bourgeois family, with contributions offered by the analysis of drawings and interviews with the families inserted within this context, also counting on the help of the theoretical basis of psychoanalysis. Our data showed that the mothers that work out of home, as an insulated factor, does not seem to discriminate between the two groups. We found that the most important factors are related to the establishment of conjugality and parenthood. Another aspect identified was associated with the possibility of the participation of the father. This aspect has demonstrated a strong relationship with marital satisfaction, equally influential in the child´s perception of his place in the family

A psycho-educational curriculum for sport career transition practitioners : development and evaluation

Hong, Hee Jung January 2016 (has links)
The aim of this thesis is to extend sport career transition knowledge by developing and evaluating a psycho-educational curriculum for sport career transition practitioners. Study 1 provides an extensive overview of organisational intervention programmes for sport career transition, as well as of training and development programmes for sport career transition practitioners from 19 countries worldwide. The purpose of Study 1 was to examine the following five features of sport career transition organisational intervention programmes and training and development programmes for sport career transition practitioners: 1) At the government level, which organisation is responsible for the delivery of sport career transition organisational intervention programmes? 2) What is the typical strategy of sport career transition organisational intervention programmes? 3) Which activities and events are included in sport career transition organisational intervention programmes? 4) Who is responsible for the delivery of sport career transition organisational intervention programmes? and 5) Do sporting organisations have training and development programmes for sport career transition practitioners? Findings from Study 1 were used to inform Study 2 and to supplement the literature review. According to the literature, training and development programmes for sport career transition practitioners remain scarce, while the number of sport career transition organisational intervention programmes is gradually increasing. The purpose of Study 2 was to develop and evaluate a novel psycho-educational curriculum for sport career transition practitioners. There were three stages of development and evaluation: (1) content development, (2) curriculum design and (3) curriculum evaluation. To achieve the goal of Study 2, a focus group and a two-round Delphi method were implemented. The final version of the psycho-educational curriculum is presented in Chapter 5. The purpose of Study 3 was to test a key aspect of the psycho-educational curriculum developed in Study 2 concerning 38 competences of sport career transition practitioners. A curriculum package consisting in the key parts from the overall curriculum was developed for Study 3. The findings revealed that the curriculum package positively affected the confidence of the study participants in 38 competences concerning sport career transition. This demonstrates that the curriculum is effective for the development of sport career transition practitioners, as the study participants exhibited greater confidence on all four factorsDual Career Transition Management, Skill Transfer, Social Support, and Career Planningwhen completing the curriculum package. The discussion in Chapter 7 focuses on both the theoretical and practical implications of the research, limitations and future research directions. In conclusion, the findings presented here deepen the knowledge of sport career transition in the areas of organisational intervention programmes for high performance athletes and training and development programmes for sport career transition practitioners. In addition, a novel psycho-educational curriculum for sport career transition practitioners is developed and evaluated.
