Short-Format Video Consumption: Evaluation of Key Quality and UX Aspects for Generation Z

Lindholm, Carl January 2023 (has links)
Short-format videos are becoming increasingly prominent in today's digital landscape. The widespread availability of smartphones with high-quality cameras, together with fast Internet connections, has not only made it easier for users to interact with the digestible short-format content, but also transformed the way we consume, experience, and interact with content. Video-sharing platforms like Snapchat, TikTok and Instagram capture the attention of millions of users daily with their short-format content, especially among people born around 1995 through 2010, commonly referred to as Generation Z. Born into this digital era, Generation Z has integrated short-format videos into their everyday lives. As this audience constitutes the majority of short-format video consumers, it becomes crucial to understand their user experiences related to the short-format video consumption. In addition, the user experience needs to be continuously reviewed to meet current consumer expectations and needs. This thesis aims to evaluate the user experience (UX) of short-format videos among Generation Z, by uncovering underlying motivations and purposes, video quality aspects of importance, as well as pain points experienced during consumption. To achieve comprehensiveness, the UX evaluation is systematically carried out using a developed UX Evaluation Framework, consisting of both qualitative and quantitative data gathering methods. Semi-structured interviews were first conducted, followed by quantitative video quality assessments of test videos, allowing for rich user insights. The UX evaluation reveals that a pleasant audio experience and video content are the most important aspects when it comes to short-format videos. However, the aspects stability and pleasant camera movements are among the most important in terms of video quality. In contrast, poor sound in videos was often found to ruin the whole user experience, regardless of the video quality. The study's findings provide recommendations aimed at improving the user experience of short-format content and suggests opportunities for future research.

Neutral Parametric Canonical Form for 2D and 3D Wireframe CAD Geometry

Freeman, Robert Steven 01 August 2015 (has links) (PDF)
The challenge of interoperability is to retain model integrity when different software applications exchange and interpret model data. Transferring CAD data between heterogeneous CAD systems is a challenge because of differences in feature representation. A study by the National Institute for Standards and Technology (NIST) performed in 1999 made a conservative estimate that inadequate interoperability in the automotive industry costs them $1 billion per year. One critical part of eliminating the high costs due to poor interoperability is a neutral format between heterogeneous CAD systems. An effective neutral CAD format should include a current-state data store, be associative, include the union of CAD features across an arbitrary number of CAD systems, maintain design history, maintain referential integrity, and support multi-user collaboration. This research has focused on extending an existing synchronous collaborative CAD software tool to allow for a neutral, current-state data store. This has been accomplished by creating a Neutral Parametric Canonical Form (NPCF) which defines the neutral data structure for many basic CAD features to enable translation between heterogeneous CAD systems. The initial architecture developed begins to define a new standard for storing CAD features neutrally. The NPCF's for many features have been implemented in a multi-user interoperability program and work between NX and CATIA CAD systems. The 2D point, 2D line, 2D arc, 2D circle, 2D spline, 3D point, extrude, and revolve NPCF's will be specifically defined. Complex models have successfully been modeled and exchanged in real time and have validated the NPCF approach. Multiple users can be in the same part at the same time in different CAD systems and create and update models in real time.

Realtidssammanställning av stora mängder data från tidsseriedatabaser / Realtime compilation of large datasets from time series databases

Rådeström, Johan, Skoog, Gustav January 2017 (has links)
Large amounts of time series data are generated and managed within management systems and industries with the purpose to enable monitoring of the systems. When the time series is to be acquired and compiled for data analysis, the expenditure of time is a problem. This thesis was purposed to determine how the extraction of time series data should be performed to give the systems the best response time possible. To make the extraction and compilation as effective as possible, different techniques and methods were tested and evaluated. The areas that techniques and methods were compared for were compilation of data inside and outside the database, caching, usage of in-memory databases compared to other databases, dataformats, data transfer, and precalculation of data. The results showed that the best solution was to compile data in parallel outside the database, to use a custom built-in in-memory database, to use Google Protobuf as data format, and finally to use precalculated data.

Intermediate Results Materialization Selection and Format for Data-Intensive Flows

Munir, Rana Faisal, Nadal, Sergi, Romero, Oscar, Abelló, Alberto, Jovanovic, Petar, Thiele, Maik, Lehner, Wolfgang 14 June 2023 (has links)
Data-intensive flows deploy a variety of complex data transformations to build information pipelines from data sources to different end users. As data are processed, these workflows generate large intermediate results, typically pipelined from one operator to the following ones. Materializing intermediate results, shared among multiple flows, brings benefits not only in terms of performance but also in resource usage and consistency. Similar ideas have been proposed in the context of data warehouses, which are studied under the materialized view selection problem. With the rise of Big Data systems, new challenges emerge due to new quality metrics captured by service level agreements which must be taken into account. Moreover, the way such results are stored must be reconsidered, as different data layouts can be used to reduce the I/O cost. In this paper, we propose a novel approach for automatic selection of multi-objective materialization of intermediate results in data-intensive flows, which can tackle multiple and conflicting quality objectives. In addition, our approach chooses the optimal storage data format for selected materialized intermediate results based on subsequent access patterns. The experimental results show that our approach provides 40% better average speedup with respect to the current state-of-the-art, as well as an improvement on disk access time of 18% as compared to fixed format solutions.

Does The Content Format Matter? : A study of how Social Media Micro-Influencers’ content format persuades the followers’ information processing route in the Engagement and Purchase Intention

Horanage, Chathushee Purnima Jayamila, Hautala, Miia-Riikka January 2021 (has links)
The increased importance of social media influencers in marketing activities has been evident in recent years. The purpose of the thesis was to understand the cognitive processing of social media micro influencers’ content and the resultant behavioral outcome of follower engagement and purchase intention. Specifically, it has aimed to evaluate if the format of the content had an impact on cognitive processing and ascertains the resultant outcomes of engagement and purchase intention. Elaboration likelihood model (ELM) adapted to social media, was used, and adopted in the study in order to understand and evaluate the purpose as well as the information process of individuals. The research was narrowed down to the micro-influencers in the fashion and beauty industry sharing content, as the industry's high usage of influencer marketing and disseminating persuasive messages on Instagram. The research was conducted by using the Experimental Vignette Methodology (EVM) in a quantitative experiment. By doing so, it enabled the research to examine the participants' response to natural stimuli with quantitative results. A questionnaire together with exposure to three stimuli were used as instrumental in the collection of data. The sample was collected through social media platforms, mainly Instagram and Facebook, and via email to the students of LTU. The collected data was later analyzed, through SPSS, in two levels: impact and hypothesis testing. The impact measurement was analyzed by using repeated measures ANOVA and later the multilinear regression analysis to test the independent variables of content format relation to the dependent variables of engagement (comment and like) and purchase intention (tendency and likelihood). The findings indicated a support to the existing theory of ELM, by confirming the importance of the argument quality in the persuasive message. High lighting in the importance of text content format,in both engagement via commenting and purchase intention, when the information is processed through the more long-lasting central route. The results contributed to current literature in micro influencer and social media influencer marketing by extending the literature in persuasive messaging in relation to the content format. The research provided practical implications with insights into the cognitive processing of content and its implications in consumer engagement and purchase intention to both managers as well as to the content providers, social media influencers. The study presented relative information for content creation, communication and opened possibilities for further research in persuasive messaging in the micro media influencer segment.

Laborationer med trådlösa sensornät

Degirmenci, Cecilia, Alsakban, Hamed January 2009 (has links)
Wireless sensor networks, WSN, is a rapidly growing field of technology with many applications. A typical WSN consists of many small, inexpensive and energy-saving devices, called sensor nodes. These nodes measure an environmental parameter and the radio sends a data packet with the measured value to a base station, which is often connected to a PC. The information can then be analyzed and presented graphically to the user. A sensor network's size can vary from a few nodes in a small area to a network with thousands of nodes that covers several square kilometers of area. A section on wireless sensor networks is part of the course in Computer and telecommunication technologies II, DA122T, at Malmö University. This thesis reports on the development of study material for the practical laboratory motes on sensor networks for the course. The equipment used in the practical experiments is a package containing six sensor nodes, a base station and the necessary software. The manufacturers are Crossbow Technology, the world's leading company of WSN products. The results of the work are two practical exercises, a description of the equipment used in practical experiments and a report – Introduction to WSN. These guides and other materials are written in Swedish. The first lab in which to build a simple WSN, gives students an understanding of the principle of wireless sensor networks and how the hardware and software interacts with each other. In the second exercise, students will learn to program the sensor nodes to study the communication between the nodes and the base station and to explore the different network topologies.

Les Séries télévisées du format aux franchises. Pratique et esthétique des dramas américains de prime-time, créés entre 1996 et 2006. / Television Series, Format and Franchises. Practical Aspect and Aesthetics of American Prime-Time Dramas created between 1996 and 2006.

Monnet-Cantagrel, Hélène 08 December 2015 (has links)
Since the beginning of the 2000s, television series arouse an unheard-of interest in their history, which brings to question the sense of this kind of fiction. But, in this issue of the meaning of the object, is also the one of the method to answer it.Narratives and fictions, series are also commercial and industrial products and, therefore, strongly determined by their contexts of production and reception. Since 1996 and the deregulation of telecommunications in the United States, american then international media landscapes and markets have known important economic and technological upheavals which led to new strategies of expansion and branding of the programs, in an unprecedented tourAdapted, spun off, remade, dramatic series lead to franchises, revealing then what establishes a specificity of the serial creation : the format. The television format is a written presentation which sets the fundamental core of the fiction, allowing not only serialization but also its distribution.Studying formats and franchises of American dramatic series of the decade introduced in 1996, this thesis examines how the television format could contribute to enrich the study of television series in a theoretical as well as in an interpretative objective.
