Previous issue date: 2017-03-06 / Conselho Nacional de Pesquisa e Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico - CNPq / Pontifícia Universidade Católica de São Paulo - PUCSP / The encounter with Jesus, the way of the Kingdom, is the object of the present work. Starting from the anthropological point of view, to leave oneself in order to meet with oneself and the otherness is brought up as a sine qua non condition for this encounter takes place, and for the ontological dimension of being a person can be constituted. The configuration of the identity of being a person is a prerequisite for the encounter with Jesus and his Kingdom. This experience is decisive so that the person can adhere to the ethos that gives legitimacy to the praxis of the Kingdom, breaking up with the subjectivism and the individualism that characterize the current society. To meet Jesus is to put oneself on the horizon of the Kingdom. Without this perspective the encounter with Jesus could not be affirmed. To enter into the perspective of the Kingdom means to humanize oneself and to construct substantially new relationships, translated into attention, closeness, tenderness and care for others and with the Common House. It is about engaging in the transformation of the structures of a system that rules out the poor and the most vulnerable people in society under the light of the practice of Jesus of Nazareth. The culture of the meeting emerges as a way for the overcoming and the resignification of life and human relations in the search for peace / O encontro com Jesus, caminho do Reino, é o objeto do presente trabalho.

The therapeutic use of metaphor : a heuristic studyLloyd, Jonathan January 2015 (has links)
Background: This research was designed to explore the experience and understanding of counsellors' and psychotherapists' engagement with metaphors in the therapeutic process. The aim is to reflect on the experience of therapists involved in therapeutic metaphors from differing perspectives. Methodology: In a heuristic study a group of seven therapists (counsellors and psychotherapists) shared their use of metaphors in their therapy practice. Data were collected through an informal conversational interview that supported the participants to share their experiences in a natural dialogue. Findings: The experience of using metaphor in therapy appears to involve a multi-faceted web of generation, construction and development between the therapist and client. Various levels of depth of metaphor in therapy were identified along with links to transferential and cultural issues. Metaphors of hope also appear to be potentially important. Discussion: The findings suggest that the use of metaphors in therapy is pervasive. Metaphors that reflect an empathic connection and encounter between therapist and client were identified. Dualistic thinking around the origination of metaphors in therapy is challenged and the concept of co-creation and the mutual development of moving metaphors is discussed. Environmental and cultural influences are considered alongside transferential aspects. Conclusion: It appears that the use of metaphor in therapy is pervasive and offers an opportunity for therapeutic change. The consideration of the construction of metaphors and their mutual development may be useful for therapists to consider. This research highlights the need for more investigation with regard to client perspectives, the environmental impacts on metaphors in therapy and who the therapist and client stand for metaphorically for each other.

Urban micro-publics as a social regeneration strategy : exploring the socio-cultural dimensions of retail marketplaces in Greater ManchesterGhafoorikoohsar, Elnaz January 2016 (has links)
This thesis considers the question of socio-cultural encounters and conviviality in the context of urban retail marketplaces. It elaborates on the concept of 'conviviality' through two case studies in Greater Manchester, UK. With a focus on town centre marketplaces, this thesis considers what underpins conviviality across three elements: physical and spatial ordering, socio-cultural structure, and management and local governance. In the study of the first element, the role of the built environment and physical dimensions of place is considered in shaping encounter. The social domains of encounter are studied in more depth to explore the second element. And the final element is studied to understand the role of management bodies in shaping and mediating encounter. Marketplaces as a type of micro-public have always been much more than places of economic exchange. As flexible spatial and temporal assemblages, they can provide and provoke vivid and inclusive public spaces. However, their role in the urban fabric has been challenged by the forces of changing shopping habits, a declining economic situation of the high street, and changing urban demographics and cultural composition. While a growing body of literature explores the changing position of marketplaces, there is a gap in the exploration of their social composition, and their capacity to provide a socio-spatial expression of multicultural conviviality. The findings of this research highlight that marketplaces are sites of plural, heterogeneous and distributed practices, identities and cultures that accommodate casual relationships. Based on empirical findings in Bolton and Tommyfield (Oldham) marketplaces, this research concludes that social encounters as means of fulfilling the need for urban social experience should be mediated as well as acknowledged. Therefore, the aim of conviviality and socio-cultural understanding would not be achieved without; first, understanding the mundane practices and social encounters of marketplaces and then, inculcation and facilitation of them by the relevant authorities. This study argues that it is important to maintain the role of marketplaces in the urban public realm, as they have the spatial and social potential to contribute to the social regeneration of cities and communities. This research makes an original contribution to knowledge in terms of (1) developing wider theoretical debates about social encounter and diversity, (2) highlighting the changing role of marketplaces within the wider realm of public spaces and local governance and (3) contributing to the development of a new methodological approach to study social encounters in urban micro-publics.

Incorporating animal movement with distance sampling and spatial capture-recaptureGlennie, Richard January 2018 (has links)
Distance sampling and spatial capture-recapture are statistical methods to estimate the number of animals in a wild population based on encounters between these animals and scientific detectors. Both methods estimate the probability an animal is detected during a survey, but do not explicitly model animal movement. The primary challenge is that animal movement in these surveys is unobserved; one must average over all possible paths each animal could have travelled during the survey. In this thesis, a general statistical model, with distance sampling and spatial capture-recapture as special cases, is presented that explicitly incorporates animal movement. An efficient algorithm to integrate over all possible movement paths, based on quadrature and hidden Markov modelling, is given to overcome the computational obstacles. For distance sampling, simulation studies and case studies show that incorporating animal movement can reduce the bias in estimated abundance found in conventional models and expand application of distance sampling to surveys that violate the assumption of no animal movement. For spatial capture-recapture, continuous-time encounter records are used to make detailed inference on where animals spend their time during the survey. In surveys conducted in discrete occasions, maximum likelihood models that allow for mobile activity centres are presented to account for transience, dispersal, and heterogeneous space use. These methods provide an alternative when animal movement causes bias in standard methods and the opportunity to gain richer inference on how animals move, where they spend their time, and how they interact.

The present thesis "Museo de la Inmigración en Lima" talks about the massive immigration that took place in the decade of the 40s in the city. Lima and provincial culture found when many Peruvians from different parts of the country had to move to the capital, leaving their lands behind.
This museum is inspired by the migrant effort, their cultural contribution, and the significant role that they had in forming the new city of Lima. The architectural proposal inserts the project into a historic area for the immigration, surrounded by many important landmarks in the city.
Being the first museum to deal with Andean immigration in Peru, it is intended to explain the migratory phenomenon and in turn keep historical records, to recover part of the history of the city, for this generation and future ones. With the purpose of creating an identification and knowledge about multiculturalism that lives in Lima. In addition, that the project works as an integrating public space in which the visitors can participate actively. / Tesis

Are You Listening? The Voice of Waitaha, A Forgotten People.Reese, Alistair William January 2006 (has links)
This thesis is a study of Waitaha, a Bay of Plenty iwi that has been marginalized through the loss of most of its land, much of its language, tikanga, and mana. The purpose of the work is to communicate, through the 'voice' and the history of the people, a chronicle, of their alienation to a Pākehā audience that remains in large part ignorant and distant from their plight. The thesis is motivated by an academic responsibility to the Treaty of Waitangi and the lack of understanding to the present needs of Māori as evidenced for example, by the support for the January 2004 Orewa speech, by the leader of the National Party, Don Brash. It is predicated upon the understanding that this response, which minimalises the impact of colonization upon Māori, is constructed by many, through a convenience of distance. It is motivated also on the understanding that most Pākehā who now inhabit the rohe of Waitaha, are completely ignorant of the identity of tangata whenua. It is hoped that the presentation of the Waitaha story, will provoke a greater empathy from Pākehā, and thereby facilitate an environment, whereby grievances can be addressed in an environment of greater understanding. The thesis is a qualitative based research exercise, carried out in consultation with kaumātua and other Waitaha members, and attempts to acknowledge and integrate current kaupapa Māori epistemologies with traditional Western academic methodology. The study uses interviews, Waitangi Tribunal evidence, and other historical references to construct a narrative that conveys something of the 'voice' of Waitaha. Specifically, it outlines a chronology of Waitaha settlement, followed by a description of their encounter with Pākehā, the consequent alienation of the majority of their lands by the Crown, and concludes, with a glimpse into the current circumstance of Manoeka, the papakainga of Waitaha.

Physical Planning of ASIC’s in mobile systemsRoos, Håkan January 2007 (has links)

With increasing demands in terms of timing, area and power, today’s ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) designers are faced with new problems as technology emerges. Ericsson has started to work in 65 nm and realized that the methods used in previous, larger technologies, does not offer good enough correlation between synthesis and the results after physical placement. This leads to several expensive and time consuming iterations back and forth between Ericsson and the ASIC vendor.

In order to narrow the gap between Ericsson and the ASIC vendor, and hence increase correlation, physical planning has been identified as a possible solution. Cadence First Encounter, part of the Cadence Encounter digital IC design platform, is an advanced tool for silicon virtual prototyping. The tool basically brings back-end placement knowledge to front-end ASIC designers.

This master’s thesis main goal is to evaluate Cadence First Encounter and investigate how it could be integrated with Ericsson’s design flow. The tool has been tested on previous designs with known issues and the results are positive. By using the prototype work flow in First Encounter that is described in this report, it is possible to identify and correct issues with the netlists in time, which will help shortening the lead time in projects and hence also the time to market.

In human service organizations it is important to enlighten the significance of human encounters. The aim of this study was to explore nursing students experiences of developing empathy and professional relationship in encounters with patients and next of kin during their education. Interviews with five nursing students were carried out. The method of analysing content analysis was used. One main theme and five subthemes were presented. The main theme was described as a process of developing courage and awareness. The students challenged themselves and their beliefs and through this they gained self-knowledge and courage. During periods of clinical practice the usefulness of theoretic knowledge became evident for the students. The developing of awareness and the gain of courage made them more secure in human encounters. The result of this study lead to a deeper understanding of the significant elements for nursing students development towards a professional relationship in human encounters.

/
Background: How treatment is experienced in healthcare is affected by many different factors and is described as a concept difficult to define. Among other things, healthcare professionals create their treatment of patient and their relatives through the ways they receive and greet the patients. Body positioning of staff also have an impact on how the patients and their relatives experience treatment. Every day several thousands of meetings take place in healthcare, and these meetings are in many ways crucial to the patient's experience of further healthcare contact. Method: The literary study was performed with a focus on nursing, and scientific articles were researched in Cinahl, PubMed and SweMed. Selected articles were reviewed. Findings: The material resulted in four themes; dignity, care, information and conversation, respect and joy. The literary study showed that patients experience very different feelings and thoughts in the encounter with healthcare professionals. Many factors may affect how the meeting is experienced. Discussion: Patients will experience the encounter with healthcare professionals in various ways, and similar factors were identified in several studies. However, there is a difference in whether the experience of a specific factor is positive or negative. Conclusions: After the literary study was conducted, the authors believed that further research on the concept of treatment from a patient perspective is required. Within healthcare, it is essential with extensive knowledge of the patients' experiences in order to provide good care.
