Lived Experience of Suffering Through the 2010 Earthquake in Haiti

Unknown Date (has links)
The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the lived experience of suffering through the 2010 earthquake in Haiti. The experiences of 13 individuals who lived suffering through the 2010 earthquake in Haiti were elicited. Heideggerian hermeneutical phenomenology served as both the guiding philosophy and methodology for this research study, while Eriksson’s (1981) theory of caritative caring provided the caring science lens. Diekelmann, Allen, and Tanner’s (1989) seven-stage method of hermeneutical analysis provided the structure for data analysis. The relational themes that were interpreted were: Experiencing the Unimaginable, Awakening to a Changed Reality, Agonizing for Others, Compounding Losses, Finding a Way Forward, and Being Transformed. These six relational themes are illuminated and aesthetically re-presented in six watercolor paintings. The constitutive pattern Suffering With and For Others expressed the meaning of suffering for participants through the 2010 earthquake in Haiti as a lived experience. / Includes bibliography. / Dissertation (Ph.D.)--Florida Atlantic University, 2017. / FAU Electronic Theses and Dissertations Collection

Eriksson, Helena January 2007 (has links)

“Han är för vass, intellektuellt sett, för sitt eget bästa” : En kvalitativ gestaltningsanalys om hur fallet med “Bunkerläkaren" gestaltades i Kvällsposten och Kristianstadsbladet / “He is too sharp, intellectually, for his own good” : A qualitative framing analysis of how the case of “Bunkerläkaren” was portrayed in Kvällsposten and Kristianstadsbladet.

Wojcik, Aleksandra, Rydberg, Alva January 2021 (has links)
On September 12, 2015, a 37-year-old doctor named Martin Trenneborg kidnapped a woman from Stockholm named Isabel Eriksson. He locked her in a bunker on his yard in Östra Göringe kommun. The woman was reported missing and six days after the kidnapping, Martin Trenneborg and Isabel Eriksson returned to Stockholm to tell the police that she was ok. Later that day she managed to tell the police that she was kidnapped. Martin Trenneborg was later sentenced to eight years in prison.  The aim of this study is to examine how the case is framed in two Swedish newspapers and examine the differences between tabloids and broadsheets. This study examines the media coverage of this case in the two newspapers Kvällsposten and Kristianstadsbladet. Previous studies shows that there is a difference between tabloids and broadsheet. It also shows that there is a difference between how victims and perpetrators are portrayed, which can be connected to media stereotypes of the “ideal victim” and the “ideal perpetrator”.  Through a qualitative framing analysis, we examine how Martin Trenneborg, Isabel Eriksson and the case is framed in the two Swedish newspapers. The conclusion of this study matches with the previous research. It can be said that there are both similarities and differences between Kvällsposten and Kristianstadsbladet. Both newspapers chose to report on the same events but in different ways. What seperated them were the sensational expressions in the tabloids. The victim and the offender were portrayed differently in both newspapers depending on what the article focused on, as the study’s frames prove.

To be (true) or not to be (true), that is the question. : An investigation of literary truth based on the double contract and the faction narrative based on the novels Märit and Eufori.

Tegendal, Malin January 2024 (has links)
The aim of this thesis study is to examine questions regarding truth in fiction, the term literarytruth. The study is based on the two works of fiction, Märit by Ing-Marie Eriksson (1965) and Eufori by Elin Cullhed (2021). Märit and Eufori both enable interesting approaches to thequestion of truth in fictional literature from different perspectives. Märit, being the only bookin Sweden to be sentenced for defamation, and Eufori being a fictive story about the historicalperson Sylvia Plath. The research questions will be explored through the theory of the readers'contract and the term faction and be discussed in a wider perspective regarding both readingand writing. We can claim to write truth, we can claim to write untruth. We can seek inspiration for ourcharacters both from within and without. But literary truth is not only found in the text itself. Itis also about paratexts, media presence and the author's own statements about the novel. It is onthis basis that the author's intention is visible, and the reader's contract is established. Literarytruth can thus be found both inside and outside the text.

Reflexe severského objevení Ameriky / Reflexion of the Norse Discovery of America

Novotná, Markéta January 2014 (has links)
The thesis focuses on the reflection of the discovery of America by the Norsemen, and does so in three steps. Firstly, the approach to and the significance of the Norse voyages to America in the medieval materials, and especially in the Vinland sagas, are presented. This part is accompanied by a general introduction into the sagas. Secondly, the situation in the 19th century is introduced. In this period a lot of scientific works as well as works of art aiming at the Norse voyages to the New continent arose. The factors that led to this increased interest are explored, e.g. national movement in Scandinavia. Thirdly, the contemporary reflexion of the Norse discovery of America is analyzed (particularly its influence on works of art, society, politics and scientific research). The methodology used in this thesis is discourse analysis, which points out to the changing reflexion of the given topic.

Södergren, Susanne January 2018 (has links)

Ernest Thiels beställda verk : En studie om mecenatens estetiska inflytande i konsten / Ernest Thiel's commissioned artworks : A study of a patron's aesthetic influence in the arts

Olsson, Astrid January 2021 (has links)
This essay aims to examine whether the Swedish patron Ernest Thiel had any aesthetic influence on the contemporary art scene in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. Based on a selected group of his commissioned artworks, the study analyzes to what extent Thiel was involved in the creative process. The applied method consists of Panofsky’s iconographical- iconological method, a study of primary sources and literature of art history, and a contextual analysis based on Anne D’Alleva’s theory. The chosen method shows that Ernest Thiel was not engaged in the creative process of his commissioned artworks. Correspondence between Thiel and the commissioned artist reveal that Thiel acted more as afinancial patron, leaving the aesthetics to the artist. Rather than providing his own artistic directives, the intention with his commissioned artworks suggests that his aim was to promote and encourage the artists’ own sense of style. Furthermore, this act of patronage illustrates his genuine appreciation for the artist he supported. This study also exposes the lack of knowledge of the portrait “Porträtt av Hjalmar Söderberg” and the artistry of Gerda Wallander, from whom Thiel commissioned his artwork. The study therefore suggests further research of Gerda Wallander’s artistry as well as of Ernest Thiel’s commissioned artworks, since this is uncharted territory in art history.
