Reprezentace feminity ve filmové tvorbě Quentina Tarantina / Representations of femininity in Quentin Tarantino's moviesBenešová, Lucie January 2015 (has links)
The submitted thesis is titled Representations of Femininity in Quentin Tarantino's Movies and it focuses on the process of femininity construction in six selected movies both written and directed by Quentin Tarantino. The aim of this study is to identify how Tarantino operates the notions of conventional femininity and traditional female gender roles. Furthermore, it investigates to what extent his films either support or subvert stereotypical gender identities. In relation to the research issues the key concepts are defined by the theoretical part of this work. In particular it describes the theory of social and media construction of reality, gender as construct, film as a part of patriarchal structure or feminist perspectives related to the film production. This same part also offers basic information about Quentin Tarantino's personality and his film works in general. In order to answer the research questions the thesis employs a qualitative method of critical discourse analysis which functions as a helpful tool while reconstructing the image of femininity set by media. Moreover, the selected method serves to reveal latent meanings applied by film as a form of media to affect both behavioural and cognitive individual characteristics. Keywords Femininity, gender, construct, stereotype,...

Na genderu (ne)záleží: biatlonistky a biatlonisté v českých médiích / The gender (does not) matter(s): female and male biathletes in the Czech mediaBřezinová, Veronika January 2016 (has links)
The thesis analyzes the media presentation of male and female biathletes in the Czech media, specifically in two newspapers and their online versions. The research focuses on three major biathlon events (Olympic Games, World Cup in Nové Město na Moravě and World Championships), which took place between the years 2014 and 2015. The theoretical part briefly defines terms as sports in the media, gender, process of representation, stereotyping or history and the present of biathlon. The most important chapters in gender studies are feminist studies and their criticism, unwritten rules of gender stereotyping or men and masculinity. This paper also pays attention to chosen methodology - qualitative research and framing analysis. The analytic part of the thesis describes particular frames, which appear in analysed articles. This work is also based on the analysis of visual part of media - photographs. Individual chapters also map dominant frames - sport-reportage frame, frame of heroism, frame of humanity, frame of privacy, and frames of femininity and masculinity. For the purpose of the thesis, the signs, which are attributed to male and female athletes, are assessed too. At the end of the thesis, the author evaluates the conclusions from the research and also adds information about the media...

Nowadays, the blog actively mobilizes social and technological transformations that are characteristic for the Western society. As such, it encompasses two directions: a counter- hegemonic one, dismissing the monopoly of gender models and of information production, and an identity-related one, aspiring to the promise of unaltered self-expressionin the public sphere. This study aims to contribute to the body of research about the online manifestation of gender expressivism. Personal fashion blogs are analyzed as a form of cultural intervention, an emergent discourse, and a space of affirmation for contra-audiences, as well as a new gender technology, that facilitates the redefinition of contemporary femininity. The purpose is to explore how women represent themselves, how they relate to their social context, their gendered status, and how they communicate their intentions. To this end, I depart from the premise that their interventions in the digital space are enacted as agents seeking to validate new forms of feminine sociality. The corpus is built on an exploratory analysis revealing the fragmentation characterizing personal fashion blogs. Although this is a pioneering work, it does not treat superficially the investigated phenomena. Beyond the analysis, it emphasizes the future shifts of personal fashion blogs, in synergy with Internet developments. The blogosphere has constituted a rich source of qualitative data, which has allowed a methodological triangulation: an online ethnographical observation, a discourse analysis centering on the notion of ethos and a visual analysis. I selected and analyzed a varied repertoire of the contemporary feminine ethos (physical, disruptive, professional and familial), which demonstrates that in this media there is a trend to detach oneself from dominant model of femininity. By employing a cross-national corpus of fashion blogs, owned by women, I have identified the traits of the dominant fashion blog – presenting what it appears to be a consensual view on femininity, in partnership with the fashion industry - but also a series of counterhegemonic positionings. This research signals the transition from an imaginary femininity towards a feminine identity which materializes in close relationship with social status. In this shift of perspective resides our interest in a practice which grants access to self-representation.The study suggests defining personal fashion blogs as new gender technologies. It starts with a generic analysis of fashion blogs by circumscribing various scenographies based on which a series of visual sub-categories can be distinguished. Thus, I introduce an original typology of personal fashion blogs: male gaze, hedonistic practices, critical stance and social activism. On the one hand, personal fashion blogs neutralize the social context through the continuous activation of the feminine masquerade and by claiming a monolithic feminine identity, the blog becomes an instrument of participative alienation. On the other hand, through the deconstruction of the feminine masquerade, by building online diasporic communities, and shifting between identities, personal fashion blogs become an instrument of soft power, a place of resistance that establishes women’s representations as something achieved by them, not imposed upon them. An inter-disciplinary approach has made possible the analysis of this syncretic object of study, which is the result of digital technologies, but also of existing social transformations / of evolving gender relations.

Atravessamentos do feminino na clínica psicanalítica: um estudo sobre Dora e Schreber / Feminine cross-over in the pychoanalytic clinic: a study on Dora and SchreberFonseca, Paula Fontana 08 November 2007 (has links)
The aim of this paper is to establish the possible relationships between insanity and femininity, using observations from clinical practice, (private practice as well as mental health institutions), as a jumping off point, beginning with theorical contributions from Freud and Lacan. The title feminine cross-over is given to expressions of psychological suffering, particularly in patients who have been through moments of crisis or grave psychological disorientation and which, in their varied manifestations, show signs which refer to the feminine universe. First, a background study of the construction of the concept of hysteria was carried out, in the course of which the clinical profile of hysterical insanity became apparent. Using this, the inclusion of hysteria in the medical field ended up being articulated by three terms loaded into the profile of hysterical insanity: insanity - hysteria - feminine. Next, Dora and Schreber\'s Freudian clinical reports were analyzed, since both illustrate how aspects of femininity which appear in the subjects\' lives can be understood as clinical manifestations, produced as possible answers to the beance (gap) opened by the shock with the enigma of femininity.

Previous issue date: 2007-10-18 / Secretaria da Educação do Estado de São Paulo / In the present paper we will analyze the discursive mechanisms found in spirituality
related texts published in Revista Claudia, with special interest in their relationship with the
behavioral paradigm of the modern women.
The ideology propagated by the media discourse is disseminated in diverse social
groups, establishing values for evaluation of the reality and influencing social behavior.
The analyses performed aimed to demystify the language that supposedly has no
intentionality and to observe the confrontation between this language and the individual, its
history and ideology. It will be possible to conclude that ingenuous texts or non influent
authorship did not exist.
In this paper it is elucidated, by means of a theoretical procedure of the Discourse
Analysis, that the language plays an important role as vehicle of thought expression and
values of a determined time / O presente trabalho tem como objetivo examinar as marcas e mecanismos
realidade, influenciando o comportamento social.

Previous issue date: 2007-03-02 / This study aims at a reflexion about a symptomatic repetition in the contemporary
feminine clinic, that is the absence of a love relationship. Confronting the
psychoanalytic theory and the clinical experience, we can perceive that the feminine
talk meets certain privileged social positions in the contemporaneity, up to the point
of denying the place of the absence. The feminine talk becomes alienated into an
imaginary world, woven by the social. Other, and comes to enjoy the lures provided
by it. However, the emancipation of that feminine talk in the economic and legal
areas cause the women to illusively see themselves complete, placing the other sex in
an object position. As a consequence, we notice that one of most frequent complaints
coming out in the psychoanalytic clinic, nowadays permeating the feminine talk, is
that they are successful women regarding their social life, while on the other hand,
there is a complete lack of any love relationship.
oferecidos.

: En kvalitativ genusstudie av Kamratpostens reportageserie "KP fixar" / I like that he is so superior... just like me! : A qualitative gender study of Kamratposten's series "KP fixar"Sandgren, Johanna, Larsson, Pontus January 2019 (has links)
The purpose of our study was to examine the representation of girls and boys in journalism directed towards children between 8 and 14 years old. The study was conducted upon 15 articles from the Swedish children’s magazine Kamratposten. We examined how the gender systems reproduce and/or change through Kamratposten’s series “KP fixar”. To be able to analyze this we used a critical discourse analysis as method and we used theories including gender systems, media logic and identification. Our main results of the study showed that the gender systems and gender contracts both were changed and reproduced in “KP fixar”. The changes were shown through the fact that girls and boys were mainly not treated differently from each other based on their sexes, however the reproduction could be seen through the children being described as prominently masculine or feminine based on the performed activity in the articles.

This paper examines the discourse of pain and pain relief in the advice texts given to future mothers through the public health clinics in Sweden. The aim of the study is to explore how the concepts of “natural” and “normal” shapes the prevailing methods and perspectives in the texts. I use critical discourse theory as it is articulated by Norman Fairclough by using the three dimensional model, combined with the theory about gender performativity. The discourse of “natural” birth constitutes a socio-cultural norm throughout a variation of cultures which shapes and regulates women’s decision making regarding options of pain relief and delivery methods when giving birth. The “natural” discourse has been (re)produced in the feminist critique of the medicalisation, and consequently the pathologisation, of pregnancy. Recent studies has shown that the “natural” discourse can be seen as a gender constituting process that can lead to reproducing traditional ideals about femininity and motherhood. By analysing how the public healthcare system articulate the norms regarding pregnancy and giving birth in regards to these two different discourses, and what the potential effects are of the discourse in question, it opens up to a discussion about the equality of health and gender.

From Brecht to Butler: an Analysis of Dirty GrrrlsLugo, Joanna 08 1900 (has links)
“From Brecht to Butler: An Analysis of Dirty Grrrls” is a production centered thesis focusing on the image of the mudflap girl. The study examines the graduate production Dirty Grrrls as a form of praxis intersecting the mudflap girl, the theory of gender performativity, and Brechtian methodology. As a common yet unexplored symbol of hypersexual visual culture in U.S. American society, the mudflap girl acts as a relevant subject matter for both the performance and written portion of the study. Through the production, mudflap girl materializes at the meeting point of the terms performance and performativity. The written portion of this project examines this intersection and discusses the productive cultural work accomplished on the page and on the stage via live embodiment of performativity.

To observe sex roles in the visual world : a gender analysis of focalization and speaking patterns in 13 Reasons Why out of a didactical viewpointGustavsson, Josefin January 2019 (has links)
