The identity strategies of tunisian high level practice athletesAyachi, Sinda 19 January 2015 (has links)
The way women invest high level sport practices is highly situated according to the national culture and the sport institutions. In Tunisia, the high level sport is differentially invested by women among them certain succeed practicants are involved in male-gendered sports. This study’s aim is on the identity relationship of Tunisian high level female athletes about their practice of a male-gendered sport.Method is provided in three phases: 1) a quantitative approach based on the male/female gender scale of the MMPI test (Student test & ANOVA) allows positioning the psychological profile of female sports women involved within a male sport (N = 56 X 3 + 1000; 2) a qualitative narrative approach based on the life-story interviews (N + 8: half presenting a male Tscore; T = 5 hours; 25000 words) is based on a lexicometry and a content analysis; 3) an image-based test investigates the female orientation as mediatized and reinterpretated by the sports women.

Heroic Soldier-ism: Beautified Power AsymmetryNoack, Vanessa January 2020 (has links)
The Swedish Armed Forces can be considered a hegemonic masculine organisation with deeply embedded patterns of patriarchy, as well as fratriarchy represented by notions of homogeneity and the male soldier. Women are highly underrepresented and face multiple double standards related to their performance of gender and more precisely performance of femininity. However, the Swedish Armed Forces claim to be an inclusive organisation and advertise this through different recruiting strategies, which display women in uniforms. This thesis uses the methodology of qualitative research by combining the methods of critical discourse analysis and critical visual analysis to analyse the representation and the performativity of gender in a recruiting advertisement for inclusivity by the Swedish Armed Forces. I argue that this advertisement led to a certain form of reproducing stereotypical notions of femininity by representing women who embody certain requirements connected to beauty standards. At the same time, notions of hegemonic masculinity and patriarchy are challenged through the representation of women in military uniforms.

When Judy hears that Fran’s husband, Jim is on a business trip she decides to pay Fran a visit. The friction between these siblings is palpable and continues to intensify as Judy unearths confounding secrets and infringes upon the relationship that Fran has with her Doula, Amelia, an elitist earth mama who’s been Fran’s only female friend since relocating back East. The world of the play begins in realism and ends in magical realism; as their environment starts to mirror the anarchy of their psychological labyrinthine world: a giant tree falls in the middle of the living room, the walls of the house cave in, raging wolves howl in the distance. Form and logic disintegrate into another realm as Fran and Judy unwittingly fight through pain to arrive at a moment of love which is devitalized when Jim returns home. / 2999-01-01T00:00:00Z

If the cap fits: Kanga names and women`s voice in Swahili societyYahya-Othman, Saida 15 October 2012 (has links)
As with other women`s garments, the kanga has always been closely linked with the perceptions and attitudes that the society has about women themselves. These perceptions and attitudes continue to shape and determine the place of women in their socio-cultural context. Just as women`s clothes are often taken to define, if partially, the beings that occupy them, similarly, in characteristically wearing certain garments and not others, women then assign to those garments what is perceived to be their `feminineness`. In Tanzania, the kanga indexes this `femininity` in a strong way, in spite of the fact that men also wear it.

Opakované mučení nedokonalého těla. Specifika cvičení ve fitness centru z genderové perspektivy. / Repeated excruciation of the imperfect body. Workout in a fitness center from gender perspective.Psotová, Helena January 2018 (has links)
This diploma thesis describes the phenomenon of fitness through the gender perspective. The research took place in the environment of a particular fitness center. The space of the gym and the visitors' behavior were observed through the participating observation and semi- structured interviews. It was explored how a specific activity helps to form the identity of the trainees and how the relationships between them are created. This thesis analysis the rules according to which people behave in the given environment of the gym. It represents the gym as an environment that preserves the dominant concepts of masculinities and femininities on the one hand, but on the other hand visitors of the gym are allowed to disrupt the gender order by non-stereotypical behavior in certain situations. It was found out that attending a fitness center affects and disciplines the lives of trainees outside the gym.

The present study examined the relationship between fear of crime and masculinity respectively femininity. Furthermore, the relationship between different types of crime and masculinity respectively femininity were also examined. A web-survey measuring the degree of masculinity and femininity as well as fear of crime was developed. The types of crimes investigated were burglary, assault, robbery and sexual offenses. A convenience sample consisting of 164 university students at Örebro University between the ages 18-47 (M=23.4 SD=0.3). A total of 111 women (67,7%) and 47 men (28,7%) participated, as well as 6 participants identifying as other (3,6%). A linear regression analysis and a Pearerson's R correlation analysis were performed. The results showed a significant strong correlation between femininity and fear of crime. In addition, significant correlations were shown between femininity and fear of all types of crime, not least sex-crimes. Based on previous research and the concept that masculinity and femininity are the result of social constructions, the results were discussed. In summary, the results show a relationship between masculinity respectively femininity and fear of crime. Gender should therefore be further explored and taken into account in the criminological field when examining fear of crime.

Att erövra femininitet : En narrativ analys av sexualitet och identitet hos utvalda kvinnliga karaktärer i tv-serien Euphoria / To conquer femininity : A narrative analysis of sexuality and identity of selected female characters in the tv-series EuphoriaWredendal, Cornelia, Wilhelmson, Emelie January 2022 (has links)
Euphoria is a popular tv-series that has become a part of popular culture with its dark imagery and strong characters. The characters became a big discussion in social media and mantras that people are taking inspiration from. The series has become a phenomenon in social media where people recreate the characters makeup and outfits. This study looked at how female characters are portrayed in Euphoria from a female stereotypic and gender identity perspective. And we wanted to see if the female characters are challenging heteronormativity that is reflected in our society. We used a narrative analysis and mise-en-scéne to analyze the chosen scenes, the theories we used were gender theory, gender role theory and queer theory. The result showed that three of the characters are shown as the typical female stereotype and two of them are not. The three females that are more like the stereotypes are portrayed in a sexualized way and their bodies are shown for entertainment and selling purposes. Meanwhile the two female characters that challenge heteronormativity are portrayed as norm breaking and they are not sexualized. The gender roles are shining through when some of the feminine women are acting from what is expected of a woman. They are seeking after what the ideals are and how they can be their most beautiful selves based on the stereotypes while some of them do not.

Attachment-Oriented Motherhood and the German New Right on InstagramKöhler, Isabel January 2022 (has links)
In this thesis, I investigate the German-speaking attachment-oriented parenting community on Instagram. Focusing on a debate about new-right activities in the community, I analyze how motherhood (self-)conceptions were discursively entangled with questions of resistance to and tolerance of the new right. Two questions guide my thesis: 1) How was attachment-oriented motherhood conceptualized in the debate? How were these con-ceptions classed and racialized? 2) How did the community produce openness for the appropriation by the new right? How did the community resist appropriation? To answer these questions, I conduct a critical discourse analysis of 45 Instagram posts and their comment sections. My thesis is grounded in motherhood theories, in particular Hays’s intensive mothering, and theories that take seriously the intersectionality of powerstructures. I also refer to Skeggs’s theory on gender, class, and respectability, and workon whiteness and femininity Ahmed and Shome. I find diverse conceptions of attachment-oriented motherhood that differed with regard to their resistance to and reinforcement of intensive motherhood and far-right ideologies. Resistant motherhood concepts sought collective action and mobilized mothers’responsibility for the opposition against the new right. Investment in the respectability of attachment-oriented motherhood on the other hand obstructed the discussion about new-right activities, diverting attention away from politics. Concepts of motherhood from New-Age community members not only tolerated far-right ideology, but at times even reproduced it, in particular in the concept of conspiritual motherhood.
