Takuya Moriyama 21 March 2020 (has links)
This study evaluates the role of environmental movements in Turkey’s democratization process, with a specific focus on anti-nuclear movement, which has continued since the middle of the 1970s. To analyze the anti-nuclear movement’s features and strategy, this study uses theories of social movement and flaming analysis, focusing on how the movement appeals to the public and expresses itself. This study found out that the anti-nuclear movement in Turkey flames itself as a movement for freedom and democracy. Besides, as prefigurative politics, the movement embodies freedom and democracy within the ongoing practice of the movement through its festival-like style and creativity. / 博士(グローバル社会研究) / Doctor of Philosophy in Global Society Studies / 同志社大学 / Doshisha University

"Stoppa kulturslakten!" : En kvalitativ framinganalys av hur Norrköpings tidningar och en lokal Facebookgrupp representerar föreslagna förändringar av den lokala kulturens finansiering och politik / "Stop the slaughter of culture!" : A Qualitative Framing Analysis of How a Local Newspaper and Facebook Group Represent Potential Changes Regarding the Financing and Politics of Local CultureKarlsson, Tilde January 2023 (has links)
This paper concerns a local political debate about the financing of culture in the mid-sized city Norrköping in Sweden. The purpose of this study is to find what type of content the local newspaper and a Facebook group produce, how the debate is portrayed and how the different media types can contribute to democracy. The material contains 15 articles from the newspaper and 25 posts from the Facebook group. A qualitative content analysis has been applied as the method. Furthermore a framing analysis has been used to find answers about how the debate is portrayed in the media. Results show, among other things, that the newspaper first and foremost portrays the debate as a conflict and that the Facebook group is much more focused on human interest. Furthermore the study shows that both mediatypes should be able to generate democratic functions for the local population. The newspaper more so for its correct informational content and Facebook for its ability to bring people together and create civil political engagement.

Chen, Yu Unknown Date (has links)
Over the past two decades, the systematic stability maintenance apparatus has expanded dramatically under the logic of “stability overrides everything”, which indicates that China is turning into a security state. The operation of Stability Maintenance mainly deals with the relationship between reform, development and stability. The purpose is nothing less than strengthening the CCP’s resilient authoritarianism. However, Stability Maintenance has been ignored when researchers who study China’s authoritarian rule from the perspective of media control paid much attention to the reform and development. Choosing mass incidents as case study, this paper aims to cover the shortage mentioned above, and examines the relationship between market-oriented media and Stability Maintenance. By taking framing package approach, this paper showed that mass incidents were framed as one of the following: coercion, enlightened coercion, official-civil interaction, and legal rights safeguarding. This study found that market-oriented media played different roles as party-state mouthpiece, supervisors and spokesperson for the public interest. It also showed that the pluralistic frames of mass incidents actually can be integrated into a broader pro-government frame. More important, enlightened coercion became the most common frame under tight news censorship. It indicated that market-oriented media subjected to the necessity of Stability Maintenance is still the mainstream for media coverage on mass incidents. To a certain extent this result explained how market-oriented media sustain the CCP’s authoritarian rule.

Genusstereotyper i politisk nyhetsjournalistik : Framställningen av Hillary Clinton och Donald Trump i svenska medier utifrån ett genusperspektiv / Gender stereotypes in political news journalism : The portrayal of Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump in Swedish media from a gender perspectiveLarsson, Matilda, Vinnardag, Simon January 2017 (has links)
The 2016 presidential election in USA was extraordinary from several point of views and the election was majorly covered by swedish media. The aim of this research was to examine how Swedish newspapers portrayed Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump from a gender perspective during the 2016 presidential election. We also wanted to analyse how other common political news frames were used to portray Clinton and Trump. This is a qualitative framing analysis of 14 strategically selected articles, seven that were published by Aftonbladet and seven by Dagens Nyheter. The results showed tendencies of several gendered stereotypes that are being retained by the frames the newspapers use. Frames such as gendered traits and gendered issue emphases, but also game frames were offered to the reader. We discovered that Aftonbladet and Dagens Nyheter offered a more positive opinion of Clinton than of Trump. While Clinton was framed as an experienced, emotional and compassionate candidate, Trump was framed as an inexperienced, insensitive and aggressive candidate. Clinton was framed with gendered issue emphases in both the public and private sphere, while Trump was framed with gendered issue emphases in only the public sphere. Furthermore, game frames showed that the newspapers had a tendency of polarizing and personifying the candidates.

Representation of Women Leaders in Business Magazines: 2010-2018Cooper, Kia Ja'Shona 01 January 2019 (has links)
This framing analysis focuses on the portrayal of women leaders in popular business magazines. Framing theory was used to examine how women leaders were portrayed in Forbes, Fortune, Entrepreneur, and Bloomberg Businessweek magazines from 2010-2018. The study identified three key frames, which include the minority frame, asset and fixer frame, and the work-life balance frame. Further findings from the study suggested that the portrayals of women have changed following the women's movement in the 1970's and that women are indeed beneficial to organizations in senior-level positions, although there is still a low percentage of women in these roles.
