The dynamics of the evolution process of this population was analyzed considering the density dependence model connected to legitimation and competition. Such factors, as well as size, were tested in statistic models (panel, logit and probit) using the data base developed with the information presented in the Guias da Associação Brasileira de Franquias between 1996 and 2007, to evaluate their impact over the population survival rate. Other relevant factors raised in Evolutionary Economics and Service Market Organization were also discussed.

An assessment of the trees of the Greening Soweto Tree Planting Project in Johannesburg, South Africa

Van Staden, Elizabeth Margaret 11 1900 (has links)
The Greening Soweto Tree Planting project in the City of Johannesburg, South Africa, was a greening initiative aimed at ensuring that benefits of the 2010 FIFA World Cup, presented that year in the country, extended beyond the event. In assessing the trees of this project, it was confirmed that the target number of trees consisting mainly of indigenous tree species were planted predominantly as street and park trees in previously disadvantaged areas, traditionally known to have the least trees in the city. The survival rate of the project is estimated to be 43.46%, implying inadequacies in tree planting and management of the project and necessitating guidelines with recommendations to improve tree planting practices in the city. Growth relationship equations for Olea europaea subsp. africana and Searsia lancea were developed and the growth parameter analysis reveals that all trees grow better in parks but C. africana trees should rather be planted on sidewalks than on medians, S. lancea trees should preferably be planted on medians and C. erythrophyllum may be planted on sidewalks or medians as they would grow well in both locations. It is estimated that this project contributed 30 390.11 tCO2 of standing carbon stocks valued at R3 646 812,87 or US$303,901.07 (assuming a CO2 price of US$10.00) in 2017 and could potentially contribute 387 170.93 tCO2 of sequestered carbon stocks valued at R46 460 511,82 or US$3,871,709.32 by 2031 as mitigation action against climate change. A positive connection impacting the growth of the trees has been identified between land use, land cover and maintenance, indicating that the best locations for trees are maintained parks and formal residential areas as well as paved areas where irrigation is provided. The presence of pests and diseases, conflict with overhead structures and roads and a lack of pruning negatively impacted the growth of the trees. Guidelines for new tree planting projects have been developed with recommendations to maintain the canopy cover percentage in the established urban forest, enhance tree planting in the previously disadvantaged regions, improve the survival rate of new tree planting projects and establish community engagement forums to inform future tree planting of the city. / Environmental Sciences / Ph. It was found that a significant improvement of mechanical properties of CFRPs can be achieved by the adjustment of the matrix properties such as toughness and CF/matrix adhesion via the chemical modification, as well as the physical modification by a small amount of cheap and environment-friendly nano fibers. Based on investigation of fracture mechanisms at macro/micro scale, the effects of matrix properties and nano fiber on the mechanical properties of CFRP have been discussed. Subsequently, the relationship has been characterized by a numerical model to show how to modulate the parameters of the matrix properties to achieve excellent fatigue properties of CFRP. / 博士(工学) / Doctor of Philosophy in Engineering / 同志社大学 / Doshisha University

Unknown Date (has links)
This thesis analyzes the semiconductor industry growth worldwide. The leading index via regressions has been established to achieve a reliable forecast on worldwide ASP, wafer demand and revenue. In the long run, we expect the semiconductor demand will continue to grow at CAGR 8% (compound annual growth rate) and display less extreme cycles than past decade. However, revenue’s CAGR might be diluted to around 5%, lower than demand’s growth. Moreover, it might go down to zero-growth for some times since the ASP still slightly trend down before emerging market demand really expanded. Continuous outsourcing is one possible solution for IDM to be fab-lite, since fab’s fix charge is billion- base that needs high utilization to maintain break-even operation. But what is the solution for foundry side to avoid ASP erosion all the way down? Our analysis identifies a need for executive managers to well predict the demand on capital expenditure when making decision.

Variational and Ergodic Methods for Stochastic Differential Equations Driven by Lévy Processes

Gairing, Jan Martin 03 April 2018 (has links)
The present thesis investigates certain aspects of the interplay between the ergodic long time behavior and the smoothing property of dynamical systems generated by stochastic differential equations (SDEs) with jumps, in particular SDEs driven by Lévy processes and the Marcus’ canonical equation. A variational approach to the Malliavin calculus generates an integration-by-parts formula that allows to transfer spatial variation to variation in the probability measure. The strong Feller property of the associated Markov semigroup and the existence of smooth transition densities are deduced from a non-standard ellipticity condition on a combination of the Gaussian and a jump covariance. Similar results on submanifolds are inferred from the ambient Euclidean space. These results are then applied to random dynamical systems generated by linear stochas- tic differential equations. Ruelle’s integrability condition translates into an integrability condition for the Lévy measure and ensures the validity of the multiplicative ergodic theo- rem (MET) of Oseledets. Hence the exponential growth rate is governed by the Lyapunov spectrum. Finally the top Lyapunov exponent is represented by a formula of Furstenberg– Khasminskii–type as an ergodic average of the infinitesimal growth rate over the unit sphere.
