Making Society : Societal innovation through metadesign.

Orehovacki Månsson, Sebastian January 2022 (has links)
This project aims to define what metadesign is and can be as a design discipline and a craft at the bachelor's level. It explores concepts like society, systems, and holistic sustainability. It aims to answer questions regarding who has been given, and whom should have been given, agency in decision-making at different societal levels. What types of artifacts, practices, and interventions could or should be used to challenge the conventional implementation of these decision-making structures?

Attitudes and Beliefs of Registered Retired and Registry Nurses Regarding Holistic Spiritual Care

Ward, Beverly S. 01 January 2015 (has links)
The purpose of holistic spiritual care is to assess and provide for the spiritual needs of patients. Current literature indicates that holistic spiritual care is important to the healthcare of patients. Researchers suggest that nurses who practice holistic spiritual care are more aware of the attributes of caring, respect, and emotional support. This project study addressed a problem at the research site reported by local community nurses and holistic spiritual care experts of nurses not practicing holistic spiritual care. Mezirow's transformational learning theory was used as the theoretical foundation for this qualitative study, which was designed to examine the attitudes and beliefs of nurses about practicing holistic spiritual care. The study's participants were comprised of a mixed-gender convenience sample of 21 local registered nurses, aged 22 to 64, who were retired or who worked for a registry, and were recruited on Facebook to participate in a qualitative online questionnaire. Hand and computerized open coding and thematic analysis were used to analyze the data. Participants indicated that they believed practicing spiritual care nursing was beneficial as it could improve patient outcomes. The themes that emerged from the data included personal insecurities of nurses, little support, and lack of training in practicing spiritual holistic care. These findings were used to develop a 3-day workshop series designed to increase awareness and improve understanding of the benefits of holistic spiritual care of nurses, nurse educators, nurse leaders, and administrators. This study promotes positive social change by providing healthcare stakeholders at the local site with better understandings of the benefits of holistic spiritual care programs.

Supporting Student Writers' Personal Agency Through Meditation in the Composition Classroom: An Exploratory Study

Herman, Elizabeth Dianne 01 January 2008 (has links) (PDF)
This study examines questions about the relationships that seem to exist between the goal of supporting personal agency in student writers and a specific meditation practice as implemented in the second semester of freshman composition. With both whole-class and individualized data sources, the study seeks to address changes in students' attitudes toward the meditative practice as well as their own senses of personal agency. In addition the study seeks to identify to what extent and in what ways do students articulate relationships between their use of meditative techniques in class and their own perceptions of their personal agency in writing. The individualized case studies examine students' reflective writings completed during one semester of data collection, in addition to their verbalized reflections discussed during an oral interview conducted at the end of that semester.

Holistic Analysis of Emerging Contaminant Removal using Advanced Oxidation Processes

Fast, Sara Ann 09 May 2015 (has links)
The presence of pollutants known as emerging contaminants in water and wastewater is a topic of growing interest. Emerging contaminants, which include endocrine disrupting chemicals (EDCs) and pharmaceutical and personal care products (PPCPs), are compounds that remain relatively unknown, although their adverse effects have been proven. Emerging contaminants are not satisfactorily removed by traditional treatment methods; therefore, there is a need for innovative techniques. Advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) have been recognized as successful removal methods for these problematic pollutants. However, technical success is not the only factor that must be considered. Process engineering, environmental, and economic and social parameters were considered. A holistic analysis was completed using a ranking system to determine the performance of several AOPs (ozonation, UV, photocatalysis, the Fenton reaction, and integrated processes). Ultimately, H2O2/O3 presented the highest average ranking (3.45), with the other processes showing similar performance, with the exception of TiO2 photocatalysis (2.11).

Behövs det äldrepedagoger i äldreomsorgen?

Bengtsson, Carina, Ljung, Catharina January 2010 (has links)
The elderpedagogy work can vary, depending on where the elderpedagogue is working and what resources the elderpedagogue has at his or her disposal. By studying the elderpedagoguywork, we want to find out how the work might appear in the municipalities. In order to get a grip on the elderpedagogy and the pedagogical approach of the elderly we conducted interviews with managers who have had elderpedagogues employed within their staff. We want to find out what managers, who have hired elderpedagogues, think about elderpedagogy and elderpedagogues both before and after they hired elderpedagogues. We have also interviewed people working as elderpedagogues and nurses to see the differences in approach. For us, it is important that the elderpedagogy approach is made visible. An elderpedagogue can work in many different ways and therefore we think it is interesting to look more closely at the elderpedagogy. The elderpedagogywork can, for instance, consist in supervision of personnel but can also mean the direct guiding of elderly people in different ways. The various approaches can because of this vary greatly. Our view is that there is a positive attitude towards elderpedagogoues’ work effort and that elderpedagogy is considered to be an important part in the work with elderly people. However, we feel that the implementation in the community have not had the impact that would be the desired.

Upplevelser av fysisk aktivitet hos personer med depression / Experiences of physical activity in people with depression

Jansson Kjellberg, Mattias, Österberg, Sara January 2022 (has links)
Purpose: To describe people's experience of physical activity in depression. Background: There arecurrently approximately 322 million people living with depression in the world. Physical activity can beused as a nursing measure for this group. People with depression may need more support and followup related to physical activity. Method: A general literature study with a qualitative design wascarried out. Scans of three databases and two secondary searches finally resulted in eleven originalarticles, which were included in this literature study. The data analysis consisted of a content analysis. Results: Three categories; Social interaction, external conditions, as well as thoughts, feelings andinternal conditions can affect the experience of physical activity in depression. Encouraging supportfrom other people and the environment can both motivate and be a barrier to physical activity. Conclusion: The experience of physical activity in depression is individual. Something that gives anincreased motivation to physical activity in one individual, can be seen as a barrier in another. Physicalactivity has been described for people with depression as a way back to life and society. Having aholistic approach to health, in the performance of nursing work, is therefore important for how peoplewith depression will experience physical activity.

Instructional Effectiveness of an Integrated Holistic Teaching Method of German Language at the Community College Level

Moosavi, Amir 08 1900 (has links)
The propose of this study was to determine the effectiveness and appropriateness of the integrated holistic method for teaching grammatical structure, cultural norms and behavior, writing and listening skills to beginning German language students. The study examined a sample of undergraduate students who were enrolled in the introductory college level German offered at the Collin County Community College, Spring Creek Campus in Plano, Texas. A total of 24 students participated in this study. This study utilized a pre- and posttest group to measure the instructional effectiveness of the integrated holistic teaching method. Structural grammar, cultural norms and behavior, writing, and listening skills were used as dependent variables. The holistic integrated teaching method were measured at the end of the course as independent variables. Individual pre- and posttests were used for each of the dependent variables. The higher posttest mean scores indicated significant improvement in student learning level in four major language skills such as structural grammar, cultural norms and behavior, writing, and listening through the holistic integrated teaching method.
