Vad vill du blir när du blir stor? : Barns syn på yrken ur ett kulturgeografiskt perspektiv / Children's Perceptions of Occupations from a Cultural Geographical Perspective

Arvidsson Rubbetoft, Malin, Hildorsson, Linda January 2009 (has links)
This study focuses on the perceptions of occupations among girls and boys from a cultural geographical perspective. A questionnaire was given to children in fifth grade. They were asked to write their preferred occupation as grown-ups and to give an explanation to the selected occupation. They also considered possible future careers by selecting from a list of pre-set occupations. The survey was carried out in Gimo, a small industrial community, and Uppsala, a town with an old university. The most popular occupations among the children can be grouped in four larger categories: animal related, artist related, professional sportsmen and chef/baker. The majority of the children chose their preferred occupation because it seems enjoyable, but some valued making money or taking care of people or animals. The result shows both differences and similarities in children's career choices depending on their place of residence. There are, however, large discrepancies when comparing gender. The differences are more significant when comparing boys and girls than when comparing location.</p>

Abrashi, Getoar January 2008 (has links)
<p>This thesis focuses on youth unemployment in Finspång, often referred as an industrial community. The theoretical framework of the thesis is based on social constructionism and covers theoretical discourse analysis, intersectionality and social capital. The study is based on qualitative interviews with 7 unemployed individuals between the ages of 19-24 and an interview with an employee at the employment office in the community. The main subject in this thesis is the youngsters experience with unemployment, labour, the employment office, the impacts of social capital and the labour market in the community. The analysis focuses in how the respondents discuss their experienced problems with their unemployment. My analysis shows that unemployed youngsters are willing to work but feels that they’re restrained by their age, sex and lack of adequate social network. The analysis also shows that the youngster’s expectations on the employment office possibilities to help them get a job are unfulfilled which creates a general negative view. It seems that the high expectations of help often are based on communication and/or information problems between the youngsters and the employment office.</p>

Danielsen, Micela January 2014 (has links)
The present study examined high school students’ attitudes to higher education at university/college and their study engagement in an industrial town in klarälvdalen in the county of Värmland. The main research question was whether there are any differences between students in vocational and theoretically oriented programs regarding their attitude to higher education and study engagement. The results was also compared with a study with the same research question conducted in Countryside town in fryksdalen, Värmland county to see whether attitude and student engagement differ between high school students in different parts of Värmland. The method used was quantitative with data collected by using questionnaires. The sample consisted of 107 upper secondary students where 55 students studied in the theory-based programs and 52 students were students in vocational programs. The results show that it is different in attitude factor 1(Views on likelihood of attending university), 2 (Likelihood of friends attending university) and 3 (Family attending university) between the vocational program and theoretically driven program. In study engagement differs factor 4 (aspirations and goal) between the two approaches. In the comparison between the regions there is a difference in attitude factor 2 (Likelihood of friends attending university) and factor 3 (Family attending university). Conclusions that can to be drawn using the results of the study which were that vocational high school students in each city in the klarälvdalen and fryksdalen estimated lower factors for attitude and engagement that these students' engagement could possibly be strengthened in order to achieve a desirable attitude to higher education at university / college.

: En kvalitativ studie om Tonårsmammor i ett Brukssamhälle / Oh are you going to keep it? : – teenagemothers in an industrial community

Broström, Ann-Catrin, Huttu, Eeva January 2011 (has links)
According to statistics, there is a higher rate of teenage births in this specific industrial community in comparison with the big city. There is often a special spirit of the mining communities where work is preferred more often than education. Does this mentality encourages having children at a young age and which meaning and influence do their mother’s age at childbirth. Creates teenage mothers their identity by reproducing maternal lifestyle. To find this out, five teenage mothers had been surveyed and they left theirs life story. The interview questions were divided into thematic order to get a smooth narrative. A professional person who is employed in a support group in the community has been interviewed to get a balanced picture of teenage mothers' situation. The analysis of the interviews implemented with using theories of Skeggs, Angelöw &amp; Jonsson, and Giddens on respectability, roles and identity. The research discovered some clear patterns concerning child bearing and education. Most teenage mothers were mothers who had children when they were in their teens. The most of the young mothers and their parents had no post-secondary education. In the industrial community, the culture and the norms  encourages young people to have children earlier.

How to create an industrial memory : A case study of Sandviken as an industrial community &amp; the global company Sandvik AB

Johansson, Jeanette January 2019 (has links)
My essay aims to illustrate how an industrial memory is created based on Sandvik AB's premises. Industrial heritage and industrial memory are interrelated, but have different characteristics and conditions. I examine what conditions are required to create an industrial memory in the form of a museum. I describe the problems that exist in the various industrial concepts and contribute with an analysis of the different concepts. I am using Sandvik AB as a case study and by using the identified criteria for an industry memory my essay show the process in which an industrial memory can be created. I further investigate whether Sandvik AB can create a museum based on there industrial heritage. My research proves this fact and I finish the essay by proposing how a Sandvik museum in Sandviken can be designed. My research shows that Sandvik AB fulfills the criteria for being able to create an industrial memory from there industrial heritage. My research contribute with interpretations of the concepts of industrial heritage, industrial memory, living industrial memory and industrial history landscape. My essay shows that an industrial memory can represent a living company which shows against the usual view of an industrial memory as a representative of a discontinued production. My essay also examines two consulting firms which give proposals in creating a museum, a market that can be find outside Sweden. The research also contribute with supplementary proposals for the consulting firms different steps in the process of creating a museum. From a Swedish perspective, this study therefore contributes with a first proposal for the Swedish market in creating a museum.
