This is made through the reconstruction of theoretical and practical context in which this theory was originated, underlying its relation with the Quantitative Theory of Money. The modern debate on the quantitative character of the Wicksell s view is also analyzed. The thesis is divided in four fundamental parts: (i) the analysis of the institutional and economic environment of XIX century, focusing on the English monetary controversies; (ii) the description of the two positions in Monetary Theory that, according to Wicksell, synthesized the debate: Quantitative Theory of Money Ricardo s version and the Tooke s monetary approach; (iii) the analysis of Wicksell s monetary approach with emphasis of the Cumulative Process analysis; (iv) a brief description of Humphrey, Patinkin, Haavelmo e Leijohnufvud conceptions about the Cumulative Process and their respective opinions about the quantitative characteristic of the Wicksell s model / Este trabalho tem como objetivo principal compreender a abordagem monetária de Wicksell, com foco no Processo Cumulativo.

Starving for their art : hunger, modernism, and aesthetics in Samuel Beckett, Paul Auster, and J.M. Coetzee

Moody, Alys January 2013 (has links)
As literary modernism was emerging in the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, a number of its most important figures and precursors began to talk about their own writing as a kind of starvation. My doctoral thesis considers the reasons for and development of this previously little-explored trope, arguing that hunger becomes a focal point for modernism’s complex relationship to aesthetic autonomy. I identify a specific tradition of writers, beginning in the nineteenth century with proto-modernists such as Melville and Rimbaud, flourishing in the pivotal figures of Knut Hamsun, Franz Kafka and Samuel Beckett, and expiring with modernist-influenced contemporary writers such as Paul Auster and J. M. Coetzee. Although these writers are avid readers and devoted disciples of one another, mine is the first study to read them alongside one another as a coherent literary tradition. Reading them in this way, I am able to trace the development of the ‘art of hunger’ as a locus for a crisis in aesthetic autonomy that spans the twentieth century. I develop this line of argument in two phases. In the first, I trace the emergence of an art of hunger out of modernist engagements with philosophical aesthetics and its notions of aesthetic autonomy. Readings of the “art of hunger” in Herman Melville, Arthur Rimbaud, Knut Hamsun, Franz Kafka and Samuel Beckett’s post-war work reveal that starvation carries autonomy to an extreme and hyper-literal endpoint, revealing both its desirability as an aesthetic ideal and the impossibility of art’s complete autonomy from the body, the market or the social dimensions of language. In the second phase, I consider how this trope has animated later twentieth-century engagements with modernism. For authors writing in the aftermath of modernism, hunger provides a way of considering new complications to aesthetic autonomy in the light of both their debt to modernism and their specific historical circumstances. In this light, I consider three different extensions of the modernist art of hunger: its absorption into high formalism in Beckett’s late prose; its collapse in the face of an emerging concern with the social in Paul Auster; and its transformation into an ethical aesthetics of food taboos, restriction and asceticism in J. M. Coetzee.

Significant Norwegian choral music since World War II: A study of the compositional styles of Knut Nystedt and Egil Hovland.

Vangerud, James Karl. January 1990 (has links)
Since the end of World War II many Scandinavians have emerged as important choral music composers. This study focuses on two Norwegian composers, Knut Nystedt and Egil Hovland. Two works by Nystedt, "Thou O Lord," and "Praise to God," and one work by Hovland, Missa Misericordiae, are analyzed to determine the most important features of the compositional styles of Nystedt and Hovland. The analysis reveals that factors such as the Norwegian national romantic movement of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century, ancient music styles such as Gregorian chant, twentieth century techniques such as neoclassicism and dodecaphony, and recent reforms in Norwegian Church music have influenced the compositional style of both men. The evidence suggests that although Nystedt and Hovland have many similarities in compositional style both men have developed a highly individual musical language that is accessible yet challenging to the listener, conductor, and choir.

"System i anordningarna" : Folkbildningsmötet och folkbildningsarbetet 1904-1920

Nauclér, Nils-Erik January 2012 (has links)

Bohlin, Svante January 2013 (has links)
This essay analyses two swedish magazines about marriage, called "giftermålstidningar", from 1914 and 1924. With ideology as theoretical basis the subject matter is to find words and expressions of ideological influence in the source material. These influences is assumed to come from contemporary marriage laws, which expressed certain views about heterosexual relationships. In addition to the state's laws, the writers in the magazines is presumed to be influenced by other contemporary ideas. Either an older, christian tradition from brittish baptist Frederick Brotherton Meyer, or the swedish economist Knut Wicksell, who represents the Neo-Malthusian world view. This essay tries to dervie these traditions from the concerned magazines in an age of modernity and uncertainty.

Analysis of Tension-Zone Resistance in Bolted Steel Connections : Component Method according to Eurocode3

Hamodi, Sara, Fahandezh Sadi, Taha January 2017 (has links)
In order to predict the behaviour of bolted steel connections, different methods can be applied to calculate the design tension resistance. In this thesis, the tension resistance is evaluated in the context of the so called Component Method according to Eurocode 3 part 1-8. The design approach establishes a unified procedure of modelling steel joints. Each joint configuration is decomposed into its basic components depending on loading type. In order to design the resistance of components subjected to tensile forces, a simple substitute model, the so-called Tstub flange is adopted. The Component Method is rather complicated to apply for all joint configurations. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to create a brief and facilitated handbook covering the most common types of connections Kadesjös’ engineers deal with. The topic to be studied is rather comprehensive. Thus, this work is only focusing on the resistance calculation of components located in tension zone of HEA-sections in order to go deeper into the equivalent T-stub approach. To get a complete view about the designing procedure, general information about the Component Method are gathered by a literature study. Thereafter, the technical rules for calculation introduced in codes and standards were used to generate a general solution algorithm for two different connection configurations. The calculations have been performed using Mathcad, and the obtained results from a parametric analysis for particular profiles in each example are then summarised in tables and diagrams using Microsoft Excel.

Arbetarrörelsen inom den radikala konstmusikens tankekollektiv : En studie av relationen mellan det radikala musiklivet och arbetarrörelsen under svenskt 1960-tal / Labourism within the Thought Collective of Radical Art Music : A Study of the Relationship between the Radical Music Scene and the Labour Movement in Sweden during the 1960s

Petersson, Tobias January 2014 (has links)
Subject of this study is the evolvement of the radical art music scene in Sweden. In this development took the labour movement an active part during the 1960s. The purpose of this study is to examine how the relationship between the radical art music scene and the labour movement was constituted and what this relationship implied for the Swedish radical art music scene during the 1960s. During the 1960s radical music became an influencial part in the Swedish music scene of modern art music. In this development the artists’ society Fylkingen had a central position. In the early 1960s Fylkingen began to incorporate writers, engineers, scientists, sociologists, philosophers, economists, etc. in their work and a number of projects were initiated which interacted with common society. A proposal for a public record company was developed together with KSF (Social Democratic Association for Cultural Workers) and was presented to the Swedish parliament. In collaboration with ABF (Workers’ Educational Association) the first studio for electronic music was build in 1960 and the relationship between the labour movement and the radical art music scene was institutionalized as the Stockholm Electronic Music Studio Foundation. This thesis uses the terminology of Ludwik Fleck to examine the relationship between the radical art music scene and the labour movement. The concepts of Thought collective and Thought-style are used to draw conclusions about common values and objectives within the Thought-style. The radical art music scene and the labour movement are understood to be part of a common Thought collective with a common style of thought. Because of this relationship, projects initiated in the radical music scene came to emphasize the democratic and educational aspects of music. In the latter half of the 1960s it was conceived impossible to achieve these goals under the existing program, leading to the notion within the style of thought that technological advancement was a prerequisite for a democratic music scene.

Panovník v roli autora: Obraz anglosaského krále očima soudobých umělců a společnosti / The king as a writer: The image of Anglo-Saxon rulers in the perspective of contemporary artists and society

Kantorová, Aneta January 2015 (has links)
The present thesis focuses on the importance of the written word as a ruling device of the Anglo- Saxon kings. Due to the availability of historical evidence, the studied period begins in 597 with the arrival of Christian missionaries from Rome and ends prior to the Norman Conquest in 1066. The kings' approach to the written word is analyzed on the basis of surviving literary and iconographic evidence, i.e. on documents composed for or by the rulers, and on the visual images of the rulers as portrayed in surviving manuscripts. The first chapter provides a historical background necessary for the correct interpretation of the examined texts and portraits. This section is aimed at the main concepts discussed in the thesis: medieval authorship, medieval kingship, and the spread of Christianity within the Anglo- Saxon kingdoms. The second chapter offers the analysis of written documents and focuses on the texts composed within the scope of King Alfred's educational and religious reform. The close reading of the OE translations demonstrates the king's use of the texts as didactic tools mainly serving to promote religion and learning within the kingdom. The key texts are Gregory's Pastoral Care, Augustine's Soliloquies, and Boethius's Consolation of Philosophy; an additional context of the king's life and...
