BARTIZALOVÁ, Petra January 2010 (has links)
The target of my diploma work is to describe the specific forms of deviant behavior which are characteristic of leisure time of contemporary teen-agers in particular and on the basis of empirical investigation to determine the extent and circumstances, which are typical for these specific forms of deviant behavior occurring in the leisure of teen-agers. The theoretical part of this diploma work, which is based on thematically related specialized literature, deals with theoretical approaches to the problem of specific forms of deviant behavior, and the problem of free time. The practical part of the diploma work is based on my own empirical research, which subject is a sample of pupils 9th classes of primary schools. The conclusion of my diploma work is trying to compare the extent and circumstances under which are the specific forms of deviant behavior occuring in fact, with the theoretical assumptions.

Pojkar och flickor läser : En studie av elevers syn på fritidsläsning i årskurs 5 / Boys and girls reading. : A study of pupils' views of leisure-time reading in grade 5

Johansson, Mikael January 2017 (has links)
Abstract The aim of this study is to investigate attitudes to leisure-time reading among pupils in grade 5. A subsidiary aim is to examine whether there is a difference between how boys and girls relate to reading books. The method used in the study is questionnaires and a focus group interview. The result shows a clear difference between boys’ and girls’ reading habits in leisure time. The girls devote more time in general than the boys to leisure-time reading, but sports activities and the computer are two phenomena that the pupils choose in preference to reading. In the study one can see a link between reading literature relatively frequently in leisure time and having a positive attitude to reading in school, which applies to both sexes. The pupils who seldom or never read in their leisure time are also more negatively disposed to reading in school, which applies chiefly to the boys.

Misslyckandets styrka : En essä om att utvecklas genom misslyckande som fritidslärare.

Bengtsson, Ema January 2018 (has links)
My scientific essay is about how I as a recreational activities teacher deals with failure in my profession and how that approach affects the students. I takes its starting point in a self-perceived tale where I act as recess monitor. Suddenly I realize that a colleague and I are the only ones outside during recess with hundreds of students. The students will meet an educator who is unconcerned, stressed and irritable instead of the engaged recess monitor they are used to. I feel like a failure in my mission as a recess monitor and begins to question my professional identity. I try to find someone to blame but realize that the feeling of failure also depends on that I have a hard time accepting my own lack of skills. My questions at issue are, how can a recreational teacher relate to failure in the profession? And, how are the students affected by the pedagogue’s approach to failure? The method I have used is scientific essay form which has given me the opportunity to deepen my reflections connected to literature by philosophers and scientists within the educational area. I also use the governing documents which decides how I should exercise my profession. These are Curriculum for the compulsory school, preschool class and the recreation centre 2011, The General advice for the recreation center and The Education Act. I have based on the reflections investigated how I could have behaved different, how my behavior affected the students and how the recreational teacher is able to develop through failure. I have examined my question at issue in dialogue with theories and reached a conclusion how to work with failure can proceed from the maturity theory, symbolic interactionism, differentiation of self and deontological ethics.

Leisure-time youth-center as health-promotion settings

Fredriksson, Ingela January 2016 (has links)
Leisure time is an important part of young people’s lives. Despite this, leisure-time settings have hitherto had only a minor role in setting-based health-promotion initiatives. Improving adolescents’ quality of leisuretime activities can reduce social differences in health, thus youth-centers can be appropriate settings for promoting health. However, young people with immigrant backgrounds participate less in organized leisure-time activities. The overall aim of this study is to explore young people’s leisure time as their health-promotion setting in two NGO-run youth-centers in multicultural, socially deprived suburbs in Sweden. This study took a practice-based approach using a mixture of methods in close collaboration with the youth-centers. Data collection was done through surveys with young people (n = 207) and interviews with young people and leaders (n = 16). Study I, about who participates in youthcenter activities, used an explanatory mixed method. Study II, about the youth-centers’ strategies, used an explorative qualitative method with an inductive content analysis. This study shows that youth-centers have great potential to be a healthpromotion setting if their strategies include some important factors, both in theory and in daily practice. To be a health-promotion setting, a youthcenter needs to be open and inclusive for its target group, foster supportive relationships, emphasize youth empowerment, and integrate family, school, and community in its strategies. Local knowledge about young people's backgrounds, needs, interests, and motivations to attend youth-center activities – as well as good contact with young people's families – is important because it can increase participation in leisure-time activities for young people in multicultural and socio- economically disadvantaged neighborhoods and can thus help to reduce social inequalities in health.

Upplevelser och lärande i äventyrssport och skola / Experiences and learning in adventure sport and school

Arnegård, Johan January 2006 (has links)
The physicality of sports and outdoor life offers great opportunities for intensive experiences – participants ”feel” the happening in their bodies. As well as looking upon physical activity mainly as something instrumental, as for example in competitive sports and exercise culture, other aspects can also be central, for instance the pure joy of movement. The existential or expressive side of physical activity is examined in this doctoral thesis. In order to study such experiential quality more thoroughly, the author’s attention turns to adventure sports participants, as they appear to have a capacity for becoming highly involved and seeking very intense experiences. Who is involved in adventure sports? Why are they engaged in a sport that demands such great hardships and risk-taking? What do they get out of it? The overall objective of the thesis is to shed light on adventure sports as a practice and to discuss the educational significance of flow and other experiential qualities in adventure sports and in schools. The analyses are based on three empirical sub-studies. The first began with a questionnaire that 161 adventure sports participants responded to. This was followed by an interview study of eleven men and three women, all of whom had extensive experience in adventure sports. The categories of sport were evenly divided between climbing, off-piste skiing and hang gliding. In the second sub-study a detailed investigation of climbing was carried out. A notable sportification has brought about a very clear and interesting change in parts of this activity. Six traditional/adventure climbers and six sport climbers were interviewed, of which half were men and half women. All the climbers were experienced and very much involved in their sport. The aim of the third sub-study was to seek an answer as to whether pupils have experiences in their daily school life that are similar to those of adventure sports participants. An ESM (Experience Sampling Method) investigation was carried out with 60 pupils in compulsory school year nine (corresponding to UK schools’ year eleven) from four different schools. The pupils’ parents answered a special parent questionnaire including questions about academic and professional backgrounds, living conditions, habits, interests, attitudes and leisure time activities. The results were analysed taking into consideration the phenomenological perspective and structuralistic or more correctly expressed the cultural sociological perspective. Mihály Csikszentmihályi’s theoretical argument on optimal experiences, which in turn is based on the flow concept, constitutes the phenomenological foundation. Pierre Bourdieu’s concept apparatus and theories were used to closely examine the participants’ backgrounds, life histories and current living situations. The study shows that a preference for adventure sports is clearly linked to the participants’ backgrounds and earlier life experiences. A behavioural pattern is incorporated and developed into an embodied capacity to master a practice, a result of a long learning process. Participants were clearly concordant in these respects. Participants emphasise the abundant opportunities for intensive experiences that arise from adventure sports. It is a matter of something multidimentional: the active body, outdoor life in natural surroundings, exacting and clear goals, total focus, and about exercising control. This approach presents a model for identification of content qualities, which together create the dynamics that form the meaningful rewards that result from participation in adventure sports. The dimensions include flow experiences, but also go beyond them. The deep sense of presence, the physical involvement, the fact that they can choose the path and increase the degree of difficulty themselves – and simultaneously counter this new challenge with increased capacity so that they are engaged at the ”right level” – also provide favourable conditions for a stimulating and successful learning experience. The observation was made that it was primarily in the practical and aesthetic subjects that school pupils had the same deep feeling of presence together with a meaningful and pleasurable holistic experience as the adventure sports participants had. Here they were actively involved with their hands or with their whole bodies, and they could make their own choices and be in control of the activity, which for most pupils led to a strong feeling of satisfaction.

De bara förutsätter att vi ska vara där... : En kvalitativ studie om hur grundlärare med inriktning mot fritidshem uppfattar sin arbetssituation / They just expect us to be there... : A qualitative study about leisure-time teachers view on their work situation

Bergfors, Adrian January 2020 (has links)
This study aims to examine through qualitative interviews leisure-time teachers view on their work environment and work situation, how they are affected by it and whether they believe it can be influenced. In the study, five active leisure-time teachers at different schools are interviewed about their professional practice and work situation. In the analysis of the empirical material, Aaron Antonovsky's theory of sense of coherence or SOC with comprehensibility, manageability and meaningfulness is applied. The result shows that leisure-time teachers consider that shortcomings in their physical work environment and finances limit the conditions for carrying out their work. What mainly limited and affected the leisure-time teachers was the psychological work environment where their workload was heavy and they felt they constantly needed to be in line with the primary school teacher and be available. This caused various symptoms of stress and frustration. Finally the leisure-time teachers present different approaches for influencing their work situation.
