Wiskunde as taal van die wetenskap en tegnologie is een van die weinige vakke wat spesifiek as voorvereiste vir die bestudering van sekere studierigtings gestel word. Leerlinge met Wiskunde-angs word verhoed om hul ware potensiaal in Wiskunde te verwesenlik en word sodoende gediskwalifiseer om hul regmatige plek in die beroepswereld in te neem. Die doel van hierdie studie was om te bepaal of hipnoterapie aangewend kan word om Wiskunde-angs tot werkbare vlakke te beperk sodat leerlinge optimaal in Wiskunde kan presteer. Die aard, oorsake, aanvang, herkenning, verklaring, gevolge, voorkoms en meting van Wiskunde-angs, die verband daarvan met Wiskundeprestasie en die hulp wat onderwysers en hulpprogramme kan lewer, is nagegaan. Daarna is hipnose en hipnoterapie beskou om te bepaal of dit as terapeutiese hulpmiddel pedagogies verantwoordbaar is. 'n Hipnoterapieprogram is in werking gestel en daar is bevind dat die proefpersone almal tot 'n mindere of meerdere mate daarby gebaat het. / Mathematics as the language of science and technology is one of few subjects used as entrance requirement to certain fields of study. Mathematics anxiety prohibits certain pupils to reach their full potential in Mathematics and thus to obtain their rightful place in the world of work. The aim of this study was to determine whether hypnotherapy can be used to lower Mathematics anxiety levels to such an extend that pupils can optimally achieve in Mathematics. The nature, causes, extent, recognition, explanation, consequences, incidence and measurement of Mathematics anxiety, its relationship to achievement in Mathematics, as well as the help that can be rendered by teachers and treatment programmes were studied. Hypnotherapy was then examined to determine whether its use was pedagogically justifiable. It will allow the student to reflect upon the benefits of the use of computer in the teaching-learning process of Mathematics to high school students at the Colégio Tupy. Therefore, it will be analyzed and discussed the methods of Math teaching traditionally used in the classroom, with the use of board and chalk and the exercises of the math book, as well as, to investigate the researches done by education subjects who are constructing and testing theories of the use of computers and other technologies recently being developed at school. Once observed the results and applications of procedures that envision testing the validity of hypotheses of work here proposed, at the light of the theoretical reference used. Some pedagogical procedures are proposed to correct the inappropriateness, or to reinforce the positive aspects resulting of the systematized application of the present proposal. / Esta dissertação tem por principal objetivo mostrar os benefícios educacionais da utilização do computador no ensino de função de 2º grau e do seu gráfico correspondente através do computador, o que permitirá estabelecer uma reflexão sobre os benefícios do uso da informática no processo ensino-aprendizagem da matemática para os alunos do ensino médio do Colégio Tupy. Para tanto, serão analisados e discutidos os métodos de ensino da matemática tradicionalmente usados em sala de aula, como o uso do quadro e giz e os exercícios do livro didático, bem como, investigar as pesquisas realizadas por autores da educação que vêm elaborando e testando teorias sobre o uso da informática e de outras tecnologias recentemente desenvolvidas, no ambiente escolar. Uma vez observados os resultados da aplicação dos procedimentos que visavam testar a validade das hipóteses do trabalho aqui propostas, à luz do referencial teórico utilizado, são propostos procedimentos pedagógicos que poderão corrigir as inadequações, ou, reforçar os aspectos positivos resultantes da aplicação sistematizada da proposta em questão.

Zpracování vybraných témat z matematiky pro děti s omezenou hybností rukou - druhá třída ZŠ / Processing of Selected Topics in Mathematics for Children with Limited Mobility Hands - The Second Class of Elementary School

My thesis is focused mainly on my own electronic work sheets for children with limited hand mobility - the second class of elementary school. The introduction deals with methodology of chosen topics which I have used in my work sheets. I compare teaching methods which I have used with alternative ones. The main part of my thesis aims at SMART Board 10 software for interactive whiteboard which I have used for creating my work sheets, secondly on its use, thirdly on its tools from the tool kit and at last but not at least on description of my work sheets. I also describe the teaching of a physically disabled girl with limited hand mobility that I have taught. The conclusion consists of summarizing my experience with teaching based on my work sheets and assessing my teaching lessons.

O estudo histórico sobre a disciplina baseou-se na análise de apostilas adotadas e indicadas como referência bibliográfica por várias décadas, em entrevistas com professores e ex-alunos do autor deste material e em levantamento bibliográfico de obras de geometria analítica. Entre as questões que procuramos responder neste trabalho destacamos: Como se estruturou a disciplina geometria analítica na UFJF? No percurso da pesquisa verificou-se que as apostilas produzidas pelo ex-professor da UFJF, Hélio Siqueira Silveira, tiveram um papel importante na estabilização da disciplina de geometria analítica. Tal conclusão foi evidenciada graças a indícios de uso do referido material tanto por estar presente em indicações bibliográficas de outros professores de geometria analítica, quanto pela retirada do material da biblioteca até os dias atuais. Além disso, constatou-se a escassez de obras de geometria analítica em português neste período. Com o intuito de compreender esta disciplina em outro contexto, externo ao da UFJF, efetuamos levantamento de acervo bibliográfico do Instituto de Matemática e Estatística da USP, bem como realizamos entrevistas com professoras e ex-alunas de geometria analítica nesta instituição. A similaridade desses contextos se deu em torno da estabilização da disciplina a partir de um texto de referência. Entre as várias observações decorrentes das investigações, pudemos notar que as apostilas trazem conteúdos que vão se estabilizar no ensino superior, como o estudo de vetores, especialmente a partir da representação em coordenadas e outros que não se estabilizam, como é o caso da geometria vetorial no plano. / This research presents a historical study of analytical geometry on a curricular component of teaching degree in Mathematics at Federal University of Juiz de Fora, in the 1960s and 1970s decades. The historical study on the subject was based on the analysis of supplementary material used and indicated as bibliographic reference during decades, in interviews with the author’s professors and ex-students as well as in a research of analytical geometry work. Among the questions we tried to answer in this research we highlight: How was the analytical geometry course structured in UFJF? As the research developed, it was observed that the supplementary material produced by the ex-teacher of UFJF, Helio Siqueira Silveira, had an important role in the stabilization of analytical geometry subject. The conclusion was evidenced thanks to the fact that this material has been mentioned by other geometry professors in bibliographical references and also because the material is borrowed from the library even today. Besides this, we could see that there is not enough analytical geometry work published in Portuguese at the present moment. In order to understand this subject in another context outside UFJF, we compiled the bibliographic collection of Institute Mathematics and Statistics , USP, as well as interviews with professors and ex-students of analytical geometry in that institution. The similarity between these two contexts happened around the stabilization of the subject from a reference text. Among the various observations resulting from the researches, we could notice that the supplementary material presents contents that will be stabilized in the University teaching, as the study of vector, specially from the representation in coordinates and others that do not stabilize themselves such as vectorial and plane geometry.

Tribological Performance of Novel Boron Dithiocarbamate Lubricant Additives

Different lubricant additives such as dialkyldithiophosphates (DTPs) of different metals have been extensively used as multifunctional additives to control wear and friction in mechanical systems. These additives can produce protective films on steel rubbing surfaces and, therefore, control friction and reduce wear. On the other hand, these additives contain large amounts of metals, phosphorus and sulfur, which can adversely affect the environment by degrading catalytic converters in automobiles. Boron based additives are recognized as friction modifiers, corrosion inhibitors, antioxidants, and effective antiwear additives. These additives are emerging as attractive alternatives for the additives already used in lubricants. The aim of the project is to investigate the tribological performance of some novel alkylborate dithiocarbamates.This project was performed in the following steps:1- Chemical synthesis of three different borated dialkyl dithiocarbamate additives with alkyl chains of different lengths.2- Tribological tests of novel compounds using a four ball tribometer.3- Surface analysis using an optical profiler (Veeco WYkO NT 1100) and Scanning Electron Microscopy coupled with X-ray Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (SEM/EDS).The effect of the alkyl chain length in both DTC and the borate molecular moities of three B-DTC compounds on the tribological performance was studied. An increase in the alkyl chain length at the borate side improves antiwear properties in steel-steel contact. It was found that cyclo-N,N-alkylenedithiocarbamato-S-alkyl-di-n-alkyl-borate previously synthesized and studied [1], has the best antiwear performance compared with the other compounds synthesized in this work. All the novel additives were able to stabilize friction coefficient over a wide concentration range of the additives in the base oil. B-DTC additives with long alkyl chains show greater reduction in friction compared to the one with short alkyl chains. A possible explanation of this phenomenon is that longer chains have improved deposition process of additives on surfaces leading to a thicker and more stable tribofilm. EDS spectra show the presence of sulfur atoms on the rubbing surfaces lubricated by the base oil with B-DTC additives. / <p>Validerat; 20111001 (anonymous)</p>

It occurs in two perspectives: the first is the theoretical context that is dedicated to the study of two scientific approaches with different assumptions; the second is empirical in nature and focus the identification of individual differences in numerical abilities in children who start the school stage. In the first part are addressed ideas of Piaget's theory, within the psychology genetics, and ideas of the French neuroscientist Stanislas Dehaene, exposed in the piece "La Bosse des Maths." (1997), in which arguments presented show inconsistencies in the methods of Piaget on the formation of the concept of number in children. The theoretical support gives the development of the empirical which is composed of activities inspired by the experiments of Dehaene. The activities are supposed to meet individual differences in several aspects of the numerical sense of the child, in the first years of school life. We stress that in view of Piaget, logic and arithmetic are built in the mind of the infant by observation, the internalization and the abstraction of regularities of the world, denying any numerical ability in children under four years, while for Dehaene, all people have even in its first year of life, a well-developed sense of numbers, because for every thought or that calculations made, triggered activity of specific neural circuits of our cerebral cortex. Empirical activities indicate individual differences of children in most of the proposed activities, revealing different conditions of confrontation to operate their activities. You can also see differences in conceptions about the change in quantity. A study like this back to the understanding of how it is the numerical ability in children and characterizations that they have is important for the Mathematics Education, as the concept of number is fundamental to build up the concepts of mathematics / Esta pesquisa tem por objetivo investigar a formação do conceito de número na criança. Desenvolve-se em duas perspectivas: a primeira, de contexto teórico, é voltada ao estudo de duas abordagens científicas, com pressupostos distintos; a segunda, de caráter empírico, tem por foco a identificação de diferenças individuais, de habilidades numéricas, em crianças que iniciam a fase escolar. Na primeira parte são abordadas idéias da teoria de Piaget, no seio da psicologia genética, e idéias do neurocientista francês Stanislas Dehaene, expostas na obra La Bosse des Maths. (1997), na qual são apresentados argumentos que indicam inconsistências dos métodos de Piaget, sobre a formação do conceito de número na criança. Os estudos teóricos embasam o desenvolvimento da parte empírica que é composta por atividades inspiradas nos experimentos de Dehaene. As atividades têm por objetivo conhecer diferenças individuais, sob diversos aspectos, do senso numérico da criança, em início da vida escolar. Pode-se também perceber diferenças de concepções quanto à variação de quantidade. Um estudo como esse voltado à compreensão de como se revela a capacidade numérica na criança e que caracterizações ela tem é importante para a Educação Matemática, pois o conceito de número é basilar na constituição dos conceitos da Matemática

This thesis deals with uniform maths entrance examination for secondary school studies in education fields with a graduate exam. Thus, all primary school pupils applying for this form of secondary education will take the same tests prepared by Centre for Results in Education. The work includes an analysis of pupil's solutions of selected problematic tasks. A significant proportion of the tested pupils were found to have difficulties in dealing with the selected tasks. The last part of the work contains a collection of tasks that was created on the bases of the results obtained when testing pupils.
