Nationalism som en kvasireligion : En studie av British National Partys politiska texter / Nationalism as a Quasi-religion : A study of British National Party's Political Documents

Gunnarsson, Åsa January 2013 (has links)
There have been various results in research focused on why people are attracted to religion and religious movements. This is also the case with the reasons why people are attracted to far–right nationalist movements. The focus of this thesis is to analyze British National Party’s political documents after nationalistic quasi-religious elements. If nationalism was to be seen as a form of religion or as a substitute for religion the result could be a better understanding of why people are attracted to nationalist movements in general, and also to far-right movements. By stating that nationalism is a quasi-religion which can function as a substitute for religion, this thesis attempts to show how the attraction of religion and nationalism has on people can be similar. Therefore, one of the conclusions of this thesis is that theories based upon religion, such as religious sect theories, can also be applied to nationalist and nationalist far-right movements. The main conclusion of this thesis is that British National Party’s political documents do contain quasi-religious elements.

Lindström, Amanda January 2020 (has links)

Petersson, Alexander January 2020 (has links)
The aim of this study is to investigate ideology and discourses of nationalism in the election posters by the Swedish democrats. The purpose is to determine which type of political ideologies and if the posters showed signs of a nationalistic discourse in the Swedish democrats digital and traditional election posters for the general elections in 2018. The method used is qualitative content analysis based on semiotics. In the study, the verbal and visual elements of election posters are analyzed. The study reveals that the election posters used by the Swedish democrats showed signs of a nationalistic discrouse although to a varied degree. The digital posters contained a lot more signs of the nationalistic discourse than the traditional posters did. Ideology is present in both types of the election posters, although the traditionally printed ones showed more signs of socialism than the digital posters.

Fences are like Ghosts are like Monuments : ephemeral social agreements under the neoliberal rule

Jansson, Herkules January 2024 (has links)
This essay delves into the intricate dynamics of Berzelii Park, focusing on the interaction between the mesh fence constructed in 2016 and the Raoul Wallenberg monuments. It examines the fence as a nationalist monument, revealing its transformative impact on the communal space and highlighting its role in shaping memories, identity, and ideological conflicts within the urban landscape. Through qualitative text analysis and theoretical frameworks on monumentality, phenomenology, and bordering, the study navigates layers of exclusion, memory, and identity formation within the park. The collision between nationalist symbolism and the narratives of memory becomes a focal point for nuanced discussions about memory and identity formation. The conclusions of the research questions reveal how the fence transcends its functional simplicity and becomes a symbol of nationalist ideology and exclusionary practices. It interprets the mesh fence in Berzelii Park as a nationalist monument by examining its impact on the park's communal space and the narratives it depicts. Furthermore, the study explores the significance of the fence in relation to the Raoul Wallenberg monuments, complicating the dynamics between these elements in the park's location. The essay provides insight into the complexity of urban spaces and the continual redefinitions of collective identities and memories.

Batikhäxan – ett kvinnligt supermonster : En kritisk diskursanalys av tre politiska pamfletter / The Tie-Dye Witch – a female super monster : A critical discourse analysis of three political pamphlets

Lahti Davidsson, Elisabeth January 2019 (has links)
This thesis shows how misogynous and stereotypical images of women, which historically have been used to transform them into witches and monsters, are now reused in the construction of the term “batikhäxa” (“tie-dye witch”). Feminist and discourse theory form the framework of this study which includes the analysis of three opinion pieces, or political pamphlets, that were published between 2010 – 2018: "Batikhäxorna och makten" by the pseudonym Julia Caesar, "Refugee 'Children" & The Women Who Sexually Exploit Them" by the pseudonym Angry Foreigner and "De ansvariga för Sveriges kaos behöver en intervention för att ställas till svars " by Katerina Janouch. I use critical discourse analysis to study how discursive strategies are applied in these political pamphlets to delegitimate women, making them the scapegoats of society by use of the concept of the tie-dye witch. My thesis argues that the use of the tie-dye witch discourse reproduces patriarchal power relations by denying women the right to have and express their opinions, decide over their own bodies and exercise power in society. The tie-dye witch can therefore also be understood as an anti-feminist counterimage to the feminist witch who was established as a female role model in the 1960s. The study also uncovers the psychological function of the tie-dye witch as a female super monster who demarks the borders of nation, culture, religion, body and gender. In the studied texts, the tie-dye witch is constructed to separate "us" from "the others", and in doing so she also acts as a unifying figure in and of anti-feminist, islamophobic, xenophobic, nationalist and apocalyptic discourses.
