De l'intrusion d'un lexique allogène : l'exemple des éléments néoclassiques / On the intrusion of an allogeneous lexicon : the example of neoclassical elements

Lasserre, Marine 26 February 2016 (has links)
Such elements as those borrowed from Ancient Greek or Latin, which enter into so-called neoclassical compounds, are often, in the literature, grouped together in a unique class of elements. This dissertation focuses on formations that involve eleven French final elements logie, logue¬, cratie, crate, phobie, phobe, phone, phage, vore, cide and cole. In French, those constructions generatelarge sets of lexemes and appear to be available for lexical creation aside from learned vocabulary. The study of these elements is conducted within the framework of Constructed Morphology (Booij 2010). A database, called NεoClassy, was built in order to analyse these elements. It gathers the lexemes, formed with these final elements, which were collected in dictionaries and on the Web. The analyses that were conducted on this database have brought morpho-phonological, semantic and lexical constraints to light. A distributional analysis has also shown that some neoclassical constructions from NεoClassy and derivates have a similar behaviour. The schemas that involve final neoclassical elements and those in which native final elements are specified are integrated in a same model, on the basis of phonological, semantic and lexical criteria. Neoclassical elements do not constitute a homogeneous class: some are considered as suppletive stems of lexemes when others have a similar behaviour to that of affixes.

Winckelmann: uma história da arte entre a norma e a forma / Winckelmann: history of art between the form and the norm

Pedro Fernandes Galé 12 September 2016 (has links)
This thesis is an enquiry of Winckelmanns works that aims to the presentation of the structures of seeing that had arose as an approach to the works of art and that became the conceptual basis of a history of art that is in fact an aesthetical construction. From his first works, that had been written when the author was a librarian at Nöthnitz to the main works of the roman period, we tried to show a path that is to be thought as attached to the work of art, a contemplation of the arts that does not make great moves without the direct experience of beauty. Beauty comes from the transcendence of a norm to be embodied in the immanence of some works of ancient art that have reached the conceptual beauty in the materiality of the earthly world. The way of doing that, has been constructed, with a surprisingly coherence of some aspects of his theory and with some paradigm changes around the possibilities of seeing. In the major work History of the art of antiquity the tools that were to be acquired in a sort of relationship with the arts of the past that allows the spectator to see towards the embodied surface of the work of art are linked to a dynamics of historical possibilities that arose in the internal movements of societies but the criteria that elects the works is always to be thought as an aesthetic movement. Winckelmann, as an art thinker, established some movements of seeing and concepts that were in the basis of the newborn discipline of aesthetics. His history is as an aesthetics in form of history, and the consequences of that were proliferous, as can be seen in the flourishing debates of the binding of art, philosophy and history in the end of the eighteenth century.

A nova síntese neoclássica frente à crise econômica mundial = a volta da política fiscal? / The new neoclassical synthesis in the light of the world economic crisis : the return of fiscal policy?

This thesis examines the convergence mainstream macroeconomics thought experienced in the last two decades. New Classicals and New Keynesians have been sharing the same theoretical assumptions and proposing the same kind of economic policy in a consensus which has been called New Neoclassical Synthesis or New Macroeconomics Consensus. The main characteristic of the New Consensus is the execution of monetary policy, by adjusting the benchmark interest rate, as the only macroeconomic policy tool. In this process, fiscal policy is set aside, concerned only with keeping public debt in a stable path to ensure the "economic fundamentals", but with no active role on macroeconomic adjustment policy. However, with 2008 global economic crisis, fiscal policy comes back to the mainstream policy and academic debates. Therefore, this thesis also examines in which sense the crisis presents a change in the prevailing macroeconomic thought with respect to fiscal policy / Mestrado / Ciências Economicas / Mestre em Ciências Econômicas

Le peintre romain Vincenzo Camuccini (1771-1844) / The Roman painter Vincenzo Camuccini (1771-1844)

Omodeo, Christian 03 December 2011 (has links)
Through the study of the artistic, intellectual and social aspects of painter Vincenzo Camuccini’s (1771-1844) career, this PhD research is meant to expand the knowledge of European art history between the French Revolution and the Bourbon Restoration.Regarded as one of the leading artists of his time since he was young, Camuccini held high office in the Pontifical administration for several years (Saint Luke Academy and Vatican Museums). From the study of his historical paintings he emerges as the leading representative in Europe of a late neoclassicism characterized by an axiomatic adherence to historical sources and a mediated approach to contemporary history through the lens of past styles. His religious paintings attest his participation in the development of the papacy’s cultural policy. Since his death in 1844 such firmly academic artist has been condemned by the critics. This monographic study is aimed at a reassessment of Camuccini’s career allowing for a new regard on the relationship between art, politics and religion both within the Vatican State and in Europe between the end of the 18th century and the first part of the 19th century.

A Neoclassical Realist Analysis of Japanese Defense Policy

Sydow, Brian 01 January 2017 (has links)
Postwar Japan’s defense policy is an anomaly; it is a non-neutral middle power that has regularly resisted translating its economic strength into military strength. This paper seeks to analyze postwar Japan’s defense policy at the international systemic and domestic unit levels through the use of neoclassical realism, and then make predictions as to where Japanese defense policy will go. First, this paper provides an overview of relevant neoclassical realist theoretical literature, before moving on to an examination of the norms created by Japan’s defense policies during the Cold War. The next chapter focuses on the post-Cold War evolution, in which systemic level factors pushed Japan towards rearmament. Next is an analysis of the most recent period of leadership by Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, covering the challenges that Japan faces and the methods he and his administration have used to advance Japanese security policy, short of constitutional amendment. This paper then examines the current state and trends of national-level factors restricting policymakers, and predicts whether these trends will continue. This paper concludes that international-level pressures have consistently driven the major changes to Japanese defense policy, though these responses have been restricted by national-level factors, in particular Article 9 of the constitution and large pacifist protests. However, these factors are becoming less and less effective at restraining an expansion of Japan’s Self Defense Forces (SDF). Furthermore, there has been little effort to rollback the remilitarization of the SDF. Given the strength of the pro-constitutional-revision Liberal Democratic Party, the weakness of the opposition in the Diet, and the continuing decline of the importance of pacifism to the Japanese public, this paper concludes that Article 9 will be revised to allow for the expansion of Japan’s security policy. This conclusion can provide insight into how Japan will be able to act in the future, and thereby help plan the foreign policies of other nations in the region.

The Role of Foro de São Paulo in Brazilian Foreign Policy: a neoclassical realist analysis / The Role of Foro de São Paulo in Brazilian Foreign Policy: a neoclassical realist analysis

Novichkova, Anna January 2018 (has links)
Institutional regional integration has become the main focus of Brazil's foreign policy during the administration of the Workers' Party 2003-2016. Why has Brazil decided to involve itself so deeply into the process of Latin American integration? The main objective of this single case study is twofold. First, applying the theory of neoclassical realism, this thesis aims to discuss all the driving forces (variables) behind Brazil's decision to make regional integration its top foreign policy priority since 2003. Second, it attempts to clarify that the São Paulo Forum, a continental network of the leftist political parties, should also be included into the set of driving forces behind the foreign policy choices in Brazil from 2003 to 2016. The following research question is put forward: What role does the São Paulo Forum play in Brazil's intensified involvement into regional integration during the period of the Workers` Party in power? Assessed through the congruence procedure and process tracing technique, the influence of the Forum is placed under the intervening variables of the neoclassical realist theory. The results of the study demonstrate that since the Workers' Party coming to power, its leader, Lula da Silva has used the directives, elaborated at the São Paulo Forum, to restructure,...

Stocks, Vera January 2021 (has links)
The following thesis is a study of why the Swedish government´s approach to the use of military means in the Arctic region has changed over the last ten years. The analysis builds upon theoretical tools of neoclassical realism. First, an examination is made of the costal states’ military development in regards to the Arctic region to settle if there have been any significant shifts in relative power. Second, the Swedish government’s threat perceptions alongside the change of the Swedish military capabilities are analysed. According to the results of the study, several aspects may have played a part in the Swedish policy change. Factors on both the international and the national level are of importance, however it is concluded that changes in decision makers’ perception and reduced military capabilities could have had a certain role in shaping the governments approach to the Arctic region.

Export-led growth? : The case of Brazil

Schmidt, Florian January 2020 (has links)
With an ever-increasing globalising world, trade is of most importance for developing countries to not fall behind and be outcompeted. Export-led growth theory states that one of the key determinants for economic growth is exports. This thesis aims to analyse the causal effects of exports on economic growth in the case of Brazil. Annual data from the World Bank’s database for the years 1990-2018 has been used. The variables included are GDP, exports, gross capital formation, FDI and labour force. This study puts the export-led growth theory in a Vector Error Correction – Granger Causality framework. As opposed to previous scholars’ findings, neither export-led growth nor growth-led export could be determined for Brazil.

Offensive or Neoclassical Realism? How a Great Power Shapes Its Environment

Irfan, Orhan January 2021 (has links)
This thesis aims to shed light on the differences between offensive and a specific version of neoclassical realism on their expectations regarding how a great power shapes its environment. The neoclassical framework proposed in this work constitutes an independent variable captured by the polarity in the system, an intervening variable of state capacity, and a dependent variable of revisionist foreign policy. It is argued that along with multipolarity and bipolarity, there is a need to incorporate unipolarity in structural realist accounts. Analysed from this perspective, great powers feel high external pressure due to the nature of unipolarity, which diminishes the value of pure structural frameworks. In this respect, the incorporation of state-level factors provides more reliable analyses for explaining anxious great powers` strive for regional hegemony. As a result, neoclassical realism is better equipped to explain Russia`s revisionist foreign policy.
