For that we deal with the aspects of the history of mathematics concerning the issue of change in motion, as discussed by Nicole Oresme (1323-1382). The research led us to understand that the development of mathematics is related to current events in the society and the various areas of knowledge. In our view, the study of this relation allows the construction of meaningful knowledge, and ability to generate decision-making statements that enable the consistent training of the individual and their preparation for social life / Esta pesquisa tem por objetivo abordar as funções no Ensino Médio por meio de relações estabelecidas entre a história da matemática e o uso de modelagem no ensino de matemática.

To the end of this research it will be clear if Oresme used or not this concept to explain if this possible Movement began, of what it forms this it took place and his apparent uniform continuity. Charles V registers the analysis in the century XIV, when Oresme writes a commented translation of the Aristotelian treaty On the Heavens, to request of a king. His comments now they are simple interpretative explanations, it prays explanations followed by discussions in which he presents, through logical or theological arguments, other means to those present ones in the Aristotelian treaty. One of these means is the Daytime Movement of the Earth. In this work, also they will be presented and discussed: the origin and the conflicts that took place in the University of Paris, between the centuries XII and XIII up to the decree of Tempier in 1277; the concept of the Impetus, of Buridan, the discussions of Oresme on: the possibility of a produced and eternal World, the possibility of plural Worlds and the possibility of an incorporeal emptiness / O objetivo desta dissertação é analisar a possível relação entre o conceito do Impetus, de Nicole Oresme e a discussão acerca da possibilidade do Movimento Diurno da Terra, presente em Le Livre du Ciel et du Monde.

A Godless fable: atheism and the philosophy of Bernard Mandeville.

Corbeil, Patrick 11 August 2011 (has links)
The Anglo-Dutch philosopher Bernard Mandeville (1670-1733) was among the most controversial figures writing in English in the eighteenth century. His satirical exploration of the nature of human sociability and economic prosperity infuriated his contemporary critics and deeply influenced the ideas of later Enlightenment philosophes. One of the most persistent questions about Mandeville's work concerns the sincerity of his declarations of Christian piety. Mandeville is commonly identified as a deist. This thesis explores the possibility that he was an atheist. The question is examined through an analysis of Mandeville’s major influences, most notably French Jansenism, Epicureanism, Scepticism, erudite libertinism, and Dutch republicanism. Key figures that Mandeville engaged with in his writings include Pierre Bayle, René Descartes, Shaftesbury, Thomas Hobbes, Pierre Nicole, and Pierre Gassendi. In the process of discussing Mandeville’s putative atheism, the methodological problem of researching and identifying atheism in early-modern Europe is explored. / Graduate

O Traité sur la Monnaie e a filosofia política de Nicole Oresme / The Traité sur la Monnaie and the Political Philosophy of Nicole Oresme

Almeida, Paula Freitas de, 1981- 23 August 2018 (has links)
Orientador: Márcio Augusto Damin Custódio / Dissertação (mestrado) - Universidade Estadual de Campinas, Instituto de Filosofia e Ciências Humanas / Made available in DSpace on 2018-08-23T18:25:27Z (GMT). The research had as its object of study the notion of authority present in the political philosophy Nicole Oresme, from the different uses of the currency in the kingdom, in particular those who lead the kingdom to self-sufficiency (autarkéia). Through the analysis of the relationship between the prince and his subjects in the manufacturing process, minting and circulation of money, it sought to demonstrate the performance of the natural end of the currency as a tool used in an artificial system fair exchanges can foster,in the kingdom, wealth and happiness for its subjects by the circulation of wealth that allows the diversity of goods and services available to residents in the kingdom and subjects. Therefore, the research is divided into three chapters that addressed the notion of political authority in the Royalty, the limits of authority of the prince in the kingdom and tyranny as the cause of sedition. In order to do it, it was read the Traité sur la Monnaie and the supplementary texts and comments to the Political Commentary on Ethics, the latter corresponds to the translations and glosses of French Oresme to Aristotelian texts of Politics and Ethics, respectively. It was concluded that the kingship and tyranny are different ways of ordering human relationships. The royals have good constitutions and the government is exercised by the prince and it is straight because it seeks for wellness and the public interest. On the monetary issue, this results in the preservation of the quality of the coin and the promotion means that it circulates among his subjects and between realms fairly. On the other hand, the use of money by the tyranny becomes unjust to satisfy particular interests and serves as a tool for monetary tyranny, so whoever reigns deviates from its real constitution, which is royalty / Mestrado / Filosofia / Mestra em Filosofia

Nicole Oresme : exigences scientifiques et projet politique / Nicole Oresme : scientific standards and political project

Serra, Sophie 19 October 2015 (has links)
For the sake of convenience, the oresmian corpus has often been split into two parts. In a scientific one would be gathered his science treatises and his natural philosophy commentaries, whereas his translations into French of Aristotle's Politics, Economics and Nicomachean Ethics would belong to a political and moral one. But this dichotomy presents with a lot of flaws. First of all such a simplification doesn't take into account either the so-called pamphlets Oresme wrote against judicial astrology nor his monetary treatise. Besides, one must bear in mind that Oresme continuously wrote and translated his own writings into French, and especially those treatises. Secondly, in addition to being historically inaccurate, positing two “Oresmes” tends to suggest that one of these aspects would prevail over the other. It denies the very idea of an oeuvre, intended as unified by its author and the project he envisioned. Yet, the fact that Oresme chose to write some of his works in French all along his life indicates such a continuity. Another clue would be that he composed the Livre du Ciel et du Monde at the end of his career, a book both in French and of a great scientific complexity. To enlighten us about these matters, we can rely on the many passages Nicole Oresme devotes to knowledge and the means to attain it. The present thesis aims to walk in Oresme's steps, reconstruct his journey as an author and philosopher, and to show that he gradually established a unique and unified conception of man in all its dimensions, political as well as scientific.

Chouinard, Jean-Guy 21 January 2022 (has links)

Tanigawa, Masako 21 March 2017 (has links)
Our study is aimed at emphasizing the Catholic influence on Pierre Bayle (1647-1706)’s texts. For the purpose of arriving at sweeping interpretations, we deal with the texts of writers of Port-Royal, such as Antoine Arnauld, Pierre Nicole, Blaise Pascal, and those of Bossuet. We follow and develop Bayle studies that have attempted these comparisons such as E. Labrousse, K. Nozawa, A. McKenna, G. Mori. At first, we confirm that the theology of Bayle and Port-Royal is based on Thomistic ideas of human conscience and natural law. And the re-reading of the texts of Nicole allows Bayle to rephrase the Thomistic concept of ignorance to propose a radical form of religious tolerance : all men have the right to follow their conscience – even if it is errant. Our next approach is toward Bayle’s political thought. For this purpose, we compare his texts with Catholic texts. Bayle, Arnauld and Bossuet, advocates of civil obedience to political power, condemn Pierre Jurieu, who demands peuples right of rebellion against a monarch in the name of freedom of conscience. They are also opposed to French Huguenot theorists at the end of the sixteenth century named « Monarchomachs », who offered to Jurieu intellectual justifications for resistance to religious persecution. This condemnation leads Bayle to separate political domain from religious domain, contrary to Bossuet’s view, that allows Louis XIV to impose on the Huguenots the conversion to Catholicism, including by force. In this context, Bayle is similar to Pascal, who disapprove of using the political force to extend Catholicism.

Nantel, Vanessa 03 1900 (has links)
Numérifrag, the first part of this M.A. Thesis, is the source code of a digital poetic project where the html tags have been aesthetically manipulated. The repetitive and parasitizing effect of the code forces the reader to decrypt the poems in order to make them readable. If the text is linear on paper, the programming of each poem into a web page otherwise induces the reader to navigate freely in the work and actualize its potential of a-linearity. The second part of this thesis, Corps discursif et dispositif dans Le centre blanc de Nicole Brossard, is about the notion of dispositive as a subversion, in Le centre blanc (1970) by Nicole Brossard. The elaboration of that dispositive is made through the body, which express itself in the text and finds its breath through the reader and his interpretation.

A politics of memory : cognitive strategies of five women writing in Canada

Thompson, Dawn 05 1900 (has links)
This dissertation attempts to develop a counter—memory, a cognitive strategy that provides an alternative to the most prevalent mode of political action by members of minority or subaltern groups: identity politics. It begins with Teresa de Lauretis’ semiotics of subjectivity, which posits the human subject as a shifting series of positions or habits formed through semiotic and cognitive “mapping” of, and being “mapped” by, its environment. De Lauretis maintains that the subject can transform social reality through an “inventive” mode of mapping. The first chapter of this study is a semiotic analysis of the memory system at work in Nicole Brossard’s Picture Theory. It argues that Brossard’s use of holographic technology is an invention that attempts to alter women’s maps of social reality. Quantum physicist David Bohm has also employed the hologram as a theoretical model. By merging Brossard’s holographic memory with Bohm’s theory of a “holomovement,” this study develops an epistemological strategy that alters not only the map of reality, but also the dominant representational mode of cognitive mapping. This enquiry then moves on to other novels written in Canada which have a strong political impetus based on gender, nationality, ethnicity, race and/or class: Margaret Atwood’s Surfacing, Marlene Nourbese Philip’s Looking for Livingstone, Beatrice Culleton’s In Search of April Raintree and Régine Robin’s La Ouébécoite. Through textual analysis, it attempts to establish that although these novels make no mention of holography, each of them employs a memory system that inscribes itself holographically. That holographic memory provides an alternative political strategy to the “identity politics” at work in each of these texts. Each text, in turn, like a fragment of a hologram, adds another structural and political dimension to the hologram. The processual structure of the holographic theory provides a ground for alliances between different political agendas while resisting closure. As an epistemological strategy, it promises to alter both the method and the ground of knowledge.
