Dynamic connection handling for scalable robotic systems using ROS2Dust, Lukas Johannes, Persson, Emil January 2022 (has links)
Multi-agent robot systems, especially for mobile robots in dynamic environments interacting with humans, have seen an increased interest over the past years. Many vehicle manufactures (e.g.Volvo GTO) have been following the trend and has started investigating a possible implementation of an autonomous-transport robot system for material delivery in production environments.First implementations of a system have been built using ROS2 and initialising static amounts of participating robots.Throughout this thesis, scalability is emphasised to enhance and add new use cases to the system. This thesis investigates possible improvements for the system by adding a dynamic connection handling, which allows robots to connect and disconnect under the system's run time.Furthermore, the performance of the connection handling in the system is evaluated in simulation for increasing system complexity in terms of the amount of connected robots. The first part of the thesis presents an approach for the dynamic connection and disconnection of robots to the network using service client communication approaches. An implementation is tested in a simulation based on an excerpt from the legacy system.Furthermore, two methods are proposed for detecting possible communication losses. The thesis work simulates the increase of the number of robots in the system at different publishing rates. It compares a many to one communication approach, where multiple robots communicate to a central node over one topic, to the one to one communication approach, where multiple robots communicate over particular topics to a central node. The simulations have shown that with an increase of nodes, the average data age and the data miss ratio in the one to one approach were significantly lower than in the multi to one approach.

Elementary Educators' Knowledge, Beliefs, and Planned and Implemented Practices for Digital CitizenshipWalters, Meghan Gail 01 January 2018 (has links)
Limited research has focused on the knowledge, beliefs, and professional practices of elementary educators related to digital citizenship. The purpose of this study was to identify elementary educators' knowledge and beliefs about digital citizenship, as well as understand their plans and implemented practices, supports, and barriers related to digital citizenship instruction. This study was grounded in Mezirow's theory of transformative learning, Siemen's theory of connectivism, and Ribble's concept of digital citizenship. Descriptive statistics were used to analyze data collected from an original survey instrument developed from the literature by the researcher. Participants were recruited using publicly accessible email addresses and the monthly newsletter from Hawaii Society for Technology Education; a total of 74 educators completed the survey. All educators in the district who met the demographic criteria of working at the elementary level as a teacher, curriculum coordinator, or technology coordinator were welcome to participate in the study. Data were analyzed for frequencies and percentages to develop generalized statements about the population. The results indicated, on average, that educators rated themselves with high knowledge and beliefs about digital citizenship concepts with the exception of digital law. Additionally, correlational analysis revealed schools with greater adoption rates of 1:1 technology-device integration had a significant impact on professional practices in digital citizenship implementation and overall instructional practices. This research study contributes to positive social change by helping educational leaders identify what is needed to support educators in teaching with digital citizenship, and especially in supporting those educators in schools which are further behind in adopting 1:1 technology integration.

Chinese neocolonialism : A comparative study of Chinese expansionism through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) in Bangladesh, Pakistan and Sri LankaJimeno Bennassar, Mario January 2023 (has links)
In the context of Bangladesh, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka, this paper provides a comparative analysis of China's neocolonialism and smart power strategies through the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). The study analyzes the economic, political, and social consequences of China's growing presence in these nations and offers a deeper comprehension of their position in the region by drawing on a wide range of theoretical frameworks and empirical evidence. The research starts out by examining the idea of neocolonialism and how it relates to China's involvement in the area. It explores into a critical analysis of China's debt-trap diplomacy, which raised concerns regarding the BRI projects' long-term economic viability and political influence. The paper also looks into how China uses smart power as a strategic tool to expand its influence in the region, emphasizing on smart power programs, economic development, and cultural diplomacy.

ATT TRIGGA KONSUMENTERTILL KÖP : Genom olika säljfrämjande åtgärder / TO GET CONSUMERS TO BUY : Through various promotionsVikström, Jenny, Eriksson, Alexandra January 2012 (has links)
There are many trading companies today, which bring fierce competition over the customers. Stores use a lot of different kinds of marketing to reach respective target groups, marketing is a very wide term and involves many different measures that the stores can use. Our study focuses on three different kinds of sales promotion who are relative common today. We have studied whether the coupon offers, SMS offers and offer ‘buy one get one for free’ affects different consumer behavior and if consumers become more inclined to buy when they are exposed to them. The offer ‘buy one get one for free’ can be used in several similar ways, but the authors have only seen the offer as a communication channel in the retail environment, such as signage and packaging. The research question that will illuminate the entire work is how consumer behavior is influenced by the discount offers? The things that are investigated are if coupons, text message offers and ‘buy one get one for free’ have an effect on consumers behavior and if they become more liable to purchase when they are exposed of these promotions. In our study we will express the highlights of the differences and similarities that emerged between different generations and through a gender perspective. We have also checked the possible risks respective opportunities that may be found using these three different kinds of saving offers. The authors have chosen to implement a quantitative approach and the inspiration for our survey is based on previous research. The survey has been conducted on 100 respondents questioned by e-mail and randomly selected in Katrineholm city. The participants surveyed are divided into four categories according to age and gender. The survey gave the authors evidence to demonstrate that consumers react differently depending on the type of promotion they were subjected. The authors can see a clear difference between these types of offers. 'Buy one get one for free' which refers to a communication channel in the retail environment was the offer that all participants preferred. The category with older men was the participants who generally did not prefer different types of discount offers.

The Longitudinal Impact of Technology Immersion Through a One-to-One Mobile Technology Program on Reading and Math Performance in a Rural Title I Public School DistrictIce, Laura R. 08 1900 (has links)
In conjunction with the Texas Technology Immersion Pilot program (TIP), the State of Texas implemented a four-year annual evaluation called the Evaluation of the Texas Technology Immersion Pilot (eTxTiP). It focused on the technology immersion experience through one-to-one mobile technology of sixth grade students in 22 selected middle schools. Initial findings suggested academic growth, especially in math, increased rigor of student work, greater teacher collaboration, a more positive school environment, and transformation of instructional practices. This study focused on one of the original schools selected to participate in the TIP program, exploring the impact over time of one-to-one mobile technology on one group of students over an 8-year period beginning with their third grade year. The selected school’s demographic makeup reflected a large number of schools within the state, including its size, rural location and economically disadvantaged student population. Based on an interrupted time series design, state assessment data was analyzed using a piecewise growth model. The study revealed no statistically significant academic growth in reading and math performance among the participants.
