Construtos de gênero no Egito Ptolomaico: uma proposta de leitura das cartas gregas e demóticas / Constructs of gender in Ptolemaic Egypt: a reading proposal of Greek and demotic letters

Thais Rocha da Silva 04 November 2013 (has links)
A significant part of the historiography on ancient Egypt has used the terms gender and women synonymously. The study of Greek and demotic letters focused mainly on formal textual analysis and philology, disregarding the understanding that letters are relational sources.. Studies of epistolography rarely emphasize the relational and social aspects of sources. If, on one hand, authors interested in gender in Egypt use letters as documents that can give access to the understanding about women in the period, the historiography of these letters appears to neglect women and gender issues as relevant. In the Ptolemaic period, relations between men and women were constituted by intrinsic and specific processes that operated different gender categories simultaneously, combining a multiplicity of traditions and values, far beyond our perceptions of what is masculine and feminine, or is Greek and Egyptian. The purpose of the dissertation is to analyze the historiography of gender in Ptolemaic Egypt and how it has appropriated certain groups of papyri, especially the letters. The discussion about gender studies based on Greek and demotic epistolography of Ptolemaic Egypt articulates different disciplines which exposes the biased theoretical frameworks imposed to the interpretation of letters.

Das Papyrusportal

Freitag, Stefan, Gerhardt, Marius, Kupferschmidt, Jens, Scholl, Reinhold 28 May 2024 (has links)
The Papyrus Portal is a project that aims to provide the user with an efficient and effective search of all digitized and electronically catalogued papyrus collections in Germany, and a unified presentation of the search results with the most important information on the particular papyrus. This includes links to the local home databases which have more details on each piece. The Papyrus Portal unites the different information technologies of the original databases and presents the search results in a standard format. A conventiontional format for the recording of the metadata has been established.

Publication of an amuletic papyrus of the early post-Ramesside Period found in the tomb of Saroy (TT233) invoking the protection of the four akh-spirits. The corpus of Greek medical papyri and digital papyrology

Reggiani, Nicola 20 April 2016 (has links) (PDF)
The ongoing project of digitising a corpus of ancient Greek texts on papyrus dealing with medical topics raises some problematic questions involving general issues of digital papyrology. The main electronic resource of papyrological texts, the Papyrological Navigator (papyri.info), has indeed been designed to host documentary items, while the special technical, even literary nature of medical papyri (which include, besides documents related to medicine, also handbooks, school books, and treatises by both known and unknown authors) requires new ways to treat the relevant data (paratextual devices such as diacriticals, punctuation, abbreviatios, layout features). Such issues are currently under discussion by the team charged of the forthcoming Digital Corpus of Literary Papyri (DCLP), but further options need to be taken into consideration in order to develop a fully functional, interactive, dynamic database of ancient technical texts: in particular, this paper will present and discuss the potentialities of a multi-layer linguistic annotation (useful to fulfil the needs of a multifaceted technical language) and of a multitextual digital edition (helpful in consideration of the fragmentary condition of the texts and of their often problematic relationship with the known manuscript tradition).

La logistique des armées hellénistiques / The logistics of Hellenistic armies

Mesnil, Charlie 09 December 2017 (has links)
The use of the term "logistics" in its military sense is relatively recent in the historiography of war (it dates essentially from a few decades) and the word is complex to define. To be interested in military logistics isn’t only to be interested in supplying the army, but also in its transport, equipment, housing and sanitary services. These subjects are therefore at the same time varied and very different from each other and the sources aren’t always sufficient. The Hellenistic world we are studying extends from Marseille to Ai Khanoum (Afghanistan) and includes both kingdoms and cities. The spaces concerned influenced the strategic choices of the generals. The impact of military logistics on the outcome of Hellenistic military conflicts is difficult to evaluate and can range from negligible to decisive. Military logistics, however, aren’t limited to their influence in wars, but also concern economic and social issues.

The corpus of Greek medical papyri and digital papyrology: new perspectives from an ongoing project

Astrological implications in the 'Lot oracle' PGM 50

Gieseler Greenbaum, Dorian, Naether, Franziska 30 July 2018 (has links)
In previous editions of the magical papyri, PGM 50 has been considered as a lot oracle. In this article we propose a reinterpretation of the text as a source for astrology rather than for lot oracles. This reinterpretation is based on PGM 50’s astrological vocabulary. We provide a new translation based on this evidence. We further discover parallels to the second-century C.E. astrologer Vettius Valens in the verso of the text, which emend the original text as given by Wessely and Preisendanz.
