Organisational Agility of Social Enterprises: A Phenomenological Study of Microfinance Institutions in Ethiopia

Gidda, Dereje W. January 2021 (has links)
This doctoral study examines whether MFIs in Ethiopia have developed the managerial readiness to face emerging threats and seize the opportunities within the context of unpredictable changes and turbulences. The interpretative phenomenological approach (IPA) has been used to collect, shape, and interpret the lived experiences, intuitions, and insights of 10 CEOs of MFIs. The data were interpreted using the double hermeneutic and analysed through the lenses of the theory of organisational agility and the Cynefin framework to make decisions. The premise of this study is that MFIs without agile organisational capability may fail to prepare and respond to changes in the external environment. The study results show multiple impediments that restrict MFIs from being adaptive towards achieving double bottom lines, i.e., the creation of social and financial value. MFIs in Ethiopia suffer from “pain points” such as inflation, illiquidity, and turbulences. The challenges include: the weak governance practice of nominal shareholders, outdated decision-making processes causing delays, staff turnover reducing enterprising capacity, and MFIs lacking sufficient digital and technological infrastructure. The study found most MFIs are incapable of responding quickly and innovatively to seize opportunities or to overcome adversities. The conclusion is that MFIs in Ethiopia have inadequate agile organisational capability to make strategic choices and execute operational processes during multiple and complex changes. The findings of the research are important, and pertinent for a better understanding of the organisational agility of social enterprises. The study has provided five recommendations to enhance policies and practical actions to build the agile organisational capabilities of social enterprises.

We presented here an overview about Hip Hop, its main characteristics and elements. Then, we focused on the concepts of lived time and care, as well as their characteristics, after that, we conclude with some considerations about possible connections between these concepts allied to Hip Hop. The movement participants are described as active in the learning life, abandoning the figure of mere receptors of an unequal social model. That is, in the Hip Hop, they bring off their lives by means of an ethical education. Through the categories analysis on apprehended discourses, it is concluded that the Hip Hop gives to the participants acquisition opportunities of a life motivation, by the time experience in relation to the place and the others. Thus, it permits that, in the dialog between individual and its context, the foundation of a successful human being life. Furthermore, the Hip Hop movement visibility can contribute to the comprehension of the current society, recognizing in this movement capable subjects to formulate consistent suggestions of change, in an unequal social model context.

Barbosa, Synara Layana Rocha 23 March 2012 (has links)

Due to the increase in incidence of depression cases registered worldwide, this theme has been the subject of important studies, especially regarding the symptomatological description and biological etiology of the disease. This research had the objective to understand the unique experience of depression experienced by people who recognize themselves in depression, under the focus of existential phenomenology of Martin Heidegger. To reach the proposed objective, individuals narratives interviews were conducted with four participants, starting from the triggering question, "from your experience, how is for you to being depressed?". The survey revealed that depression affects the whole person and is related to stressful life contexts. Depression was narrated as an experience of disempowerment and lack of self esteem and personal worth. The collaborators of the research referred to the depression from sad, angry, bored and pessimistic mood. The time is experienced as a restriction to the projective opening towards the possibilities of being in which the future is seen as catastrophic and the past lived as debt and guilt. The corporeality, in depression is experienced through the weight, fatigue and pains for no reason. The space is lived from the notion of fall and collapse. We also realized the desire for isolation and avoidance of social contact. Suicide is desired and represents the end of the suffering in life. The depression has proved, still, very stigmatized, because it is discredited and misunderstood. The stigma also addressed to the experience of hospitalization and the unsuitability to the socially imposed standards of beauty, which generates enough suffering to the depressed person. The medication was described based on its positive effects, as a balance and suffering reducer, but also as a producer of dependence. Were also identified according to the collaborators, traces of selfdemand, ordenality and being-for-others, characteristic of typus melancholicus. This study contributes to an understanding of the depression that goes beyond the merely biological perspective and symptomatology of the pathology. The investigation of the depressive experience, through the lens of Heidegger's phenomenology, showed us the phenomenon of the depression in their singularity, complexity and multiple meanings, showing the close relationship between the formation of the depression and the context of personal and social life of the participants / A depress?o ? um dos modos de adoecimento mais comuns na atualidade.

Mendon?a, Anna Valeska Proc?pio de Moura 03 December 2012 (has links)

No. of bitstreams: 1 AnnaVPMM_DISSERT.pdf: 1711640 bytes, checksum: 3bc464f995fcfef467668a79f0dbba8c (MD5) Previous issue date: 2012-12-03 / Death is a theme that fascinates, though at the same time, frightens and uneasy the human being, despite the finitude being present at our daily lives. In each historical time, death has been represented in a peculiar way, from familiar death (at Middle Ages), to interdicted death (at contemporary times). Through this path it‟s possible to recognize several attitudes and stages front of death and the process of dying as possibilities of coping and the understanding of these occurrences. In other hand, the palliative care proposal came as a humanized attention, front of the human finitude, recognizing death as a part of the vital cycle. The Brazilian reality, in this context, still faces a lot of political, economic and social barriers that makes difficult the consolidation of palliative care at the death process in the Brazilian Health Care policies. Currently, according to the Brazilian Palliative Care Association, Brazil presents an average of 40 services with this proposal. Such data portray our inexpressive condition in relation to these cares when considering the territorial extension and population of our country. Considering this scenario is relevant think about death and the process of dying at contemporary times, at a health context in which palliative care, when trying to humanize the process of dying, bring to light the issue of human finitude and the beingtowards- death, as thought by the philosopher Martin Heidegger. According to him, the human being (Dasein) is constituted as a being-towards-death, once death is its most own potentiality-for-bein and its last possibility to be lived. In view of the ideas presented, the proposed study appears as a qualitative research of existential-phenomenological inspiration and aims to understand the experience of being-toward-death from the psychological care to a person out of possibilities of cure living on palliative cares. The psychological care happened at the patient‟s home, understanding the clinical process of being-with-the-other from the written reports of the psychology/researcher, by the accompanying sessions, configured as an experience report. These reports are focused on the experiences lived by the patient, as well as apprehended by the psychologist at the intersubjectivity relation and its own experience with Dasein and, therefore, being-toward-death. The reports were hermeneutically interpreted, from the senses that emerged in this process, considering the notion of being-toward-death proposed by Heidegger. Furthermore, it was important to dialogue with other authors that approached the studied theme. It is perceived, through brief and meaningful reflections about the clinical treatments started, that the experience of illness with no possibilities of cure makes the Dasein revises feelings and experiences that were marked at the temporality and historicity of existence. It is a stage of life in which the cultural dimension and the common sense of finitude, often gains ground in the human condition, taken in its ordinary sense, unlike the way it has been thought from an ontological and existential perspective of death. Thus, there are singulars and revealing paths in the palliative care scenery as possible ways for authenticity of being-toward-death / A morte ? um tema que fascina, mas que ao mesmo tempo assusta e inquieta o ser humano, embora a finitude esteja sempre presente no nosso dia-a-dia.

Larsson, Josefine January 2016 (has links)
This study investigates the experience of exchange studies from a phenomenological perspective. Phenomenology studies the sentence structure of the phenomenon and places the lifeworld as a central concept. Husserl (2002/1954) described the lifeworld as a coherent universe of objects where we, all of us living with another in this world, may be conscious of the world as a universal horizon. In this study the lifeworld of exchange students is investigated with emphasis on their experience of the exchange. The aim of the study is to highlight the sentence structure in the experience of living as an exchange student which involves a meeting with a different culture. Seven interviews were conducted with exchange students that participated in at least one semester of higher education abroad and the resulting data was analyzed using the EPP method. This method describes the general meaning structure of the phenomenon and identifies several distinguishing features. For this study ten features were identified; an expectation and openness relative an uncertain future, a deliberate break, a part of something bigger, a deliberate approach to cultural codes, an encounter with different values, new interactions and relations, language difficulties, a new environment, a creation of identity and a personal development and responsibilities. The results indicate that the experience of exchange studies may not always be unproblematic since it’s often difficult to gain access to the culture and society of the host country. However, the experience also seems to be rewarding and is characterized by a personal development and a change in the perception of both oneself and people from other cultures. The results also show that the exchange student may gain a feeling of living in a global society where all possibilities are present.

HUSSERL E OS LIMITES DA REDUÇÃO FENOMENOLÓGICA NAS IDÉIAS I / HUSSERL AND THE LIMITS OF FENOMENOLOGICAL REDUCTION AT IDEAS I

Simão, Jean Leison 14 October 2009 (has links)
Lack of understanding of the Husserlian phenomenological issues peculiarity in relation to science fact and in particular the psychology (either a lack of understanding come from philosophers or psychologists outside or not the phenomenological movement) constitutes the rationale for developing this work. If even some of his disciples did not comprehend it, It would not be enough to assume that today (i.e. the distance of a century) these problems remain misunderstood. Thus, our specific goal is to understand the scope and limits of the phenomenological reduction, the method that give us free access to the terrain phenomenological. So we can effectively overcome the obstacles that keep the spiritual thought locked in his own horizon. Our investigations are focused on the first two parts of Ideas I, the first work that came public with the specific goal to be a systematic introduction to phenomenology. In the first chapter of this work, we keep proper within the formal logic, we will investigate the differences of principle between essences and facts, as well as between science and science of essences of facts in order to understand how philosophy should it be a science of essences, peculiar and autonomous. In the second and third chapter, however, we will move it in phenomenological terrain. While the second will investigate the designation and the effective of restriction on the natural positing to finally understand how such a reduction takes place; In the third, the goal is to establish a definite distinction between "abstraction" in the phenomenological positing of mere abstractions of the natural sciences. From the primary exclusion (a term that allude to manifestation of the reduction) it will be develop other attempts of exclusion, thus extending the phenomenological reduction to other transcendent spheres of being. With these weights we expect to have finally got rid of that constant temptation to establish a erroneous metabasis own thought that closes a natural theoretical positing.

En kvalitativ undersøgelse af silversplints som behandling af hypermobilitet i fingrene hos personer, der lever med Ehlers-Danlos syndrom / A qualitative exploration of silversplints as an orthotic management of finger hypermobility for people living with Ehlers-Danlos syndrome

Wejse, Daniel Langborg, Christensen, Linea Hua Bjerre January 2020 (has links)
Abstract Background: Silversplints as orthotic management of finger hypermobility for people with Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (EDS) has become more widespread in Denmark during the last 10 years, but no articles has yet been published about this orthotic management and population. EDS is a group of rare heterogeneous connective tissue disorders which is characterized by general hypermobility and pain. Silversplints are handmade finger and wrist splints made of silver, which are structured as 3-point force systems, which supports, corrects hypermobile joints, and corrects deformities as well as limits the movement of the fingers. Purpose: The aim of the thesis is to explore how people with EDS experience the use of silversplints and which difficulties they experience in their daily life based on ICF. Methods: The thesis uses semi-structured interviews to explore how 3 participants with EDS experience silversplints as orthotic management of hypermobility in the fingers. The theoretical framework is Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis, which is an inductive approach and iterative process. Results: From the analysis 4 themes emerged: I am not my disorder, energy consumption, the many faces of pain, a colorful life.  Through these themes an insight is gained into the positive effects silversplints may display for some people with EDS. The use of ICF showed that especially functioning and disability was affected. This involves that the body functions and structures are experienced as difficult, which leads to limitations in the participants possibility of activities and participation. Conclusion: The identified themes demonstrates silversplints’ effect on the participants mental and physical health, as well as provides a detailed picture of the participants’ experienced problems and functional capability, with and without silversplints. The thesis identifies which parts, categories, and domains within ICF, people with EDS experience as problematic, which can be used to generate a core set for further research.

Participation and control experienced during animal-assisted activities by children hospitalised with cancer / Monique Vicky Simon

Simon, Monique Vicky January 2014 (has links)
Children diagnosed and treated for cancer experience a profound life-transformation as they are confronted with unprecedented physical, psychosocial and emotional challenges. Children’s experience of diagnosis and treatment is often accompanied by a lack of participation and reduced control. Extensive research has been conducted on a variety of supportive interventions. Only a limited amount of research, however, has investigated the potential of animal-assisted activities (AAAs) to afford specialised support for the child hospitalised with cancer. Moreover, of this limited research, few studies explore AAAs in relation to participation and control. The purpose of this study was to explore and describe how participation and control are experienced during animal-assisted activities by children hospitalised with cancer. Paediatric oncology patients between the ages of 8 and 14 with any type of cancer were offered the opportunity to participate in the study, which comprised of animal-assisted activities at the facility where patients received their medical care. Five children were included in the final sample. Data were gathered by means of non-participant observations, participant interviews, graphic questionnaires and field notes. Data were then analysed in accordance with steps proposed by Tesch (1990: 142-145), which involved coding according to categories and related themes. Five major themes emerged, including (1) approach to animals, (2) body awareness, (3) level of engagement, (4) level of dependence and (5) communication. Nine sub-themes were derived from data analysis. Under “approach to animals”, the sub-themes were (i) taking the lead, (ii) grooming and affection and (iii) laughter and spontaneity. The sub-themes of “body awareness” were (iv) protection of body and (v) comfort. The sub-themes of “level of engagement” were (vi) initiative and (vii) choice. Finally, the sub-themes of “communication” were (viii) verbal communication and (ix) non-verbal communication. The study provides insight into the participation and control experienced during animal-assisted activities by children hospitalised with cancer. When the initial and final AAA sessions were compared, changes were noted in terms of the children’s approaches to the dog, their body awareness, their level of engagement, their level of dependence and their communication. These changes are associated with an enhanced sense of participation and control, aspects that are often reported to be diminished in children who are diagnosed, treated and hospitalised with cancer. AAAs should therefore be considered an effective means of supporting children hospitalised with cancer. / MA (Psychology), North-West University, Potchefstroom Campus, 2015

Participation and control experienced during animal-assisted activities by children hospitalised with cancer / Monique Vicky Simon
