Pescadores de homens : a produção da subjetividade no contexto institucional de um seminário católico /

Orientador: Abílio da Costa-Rosa / Banca: Maria da Graça Chamma Ferraz e Ferraz / Banca: Geraldo José de Paiva / Resumo: Nesta pesquisa realizamos uma análise institucional, cujo objetivo é problematizar as práticas formativas eclesiásticas católicas, tais como elas se apresentam nos modos de funcionamento institucional de um Seminário Católico - localizado no Estado de São Paulo - e no registro do saber eclesiástico, como produtoras de uma modalização específica da subjetividade (futuros padres). Através da observação do cotidiano do estabelecimento, de entrevistas semi-estruturadas com diferentes atores institucionais, da análise dos documentos oficiais do Magistério Católico e de uma revisão bibliográfica pertinente, buscamos compreender as relações de formação entre padres formadores e seminaristas como um dispositivo privilegiado de constituição do Seminário como agência de produção de subjetividade. Como mediação e pano de fundo para nossos objetivos examinamos o processo histórico que engendrou a atual sociedade disciplinar, enquanto um projeto do Estado de normalização social, e possibilitou o aparecimento das instituições de seqüestro, que se atualizam em estabelecimentos tais como o Seminário Católico. Concluímos que o Seminário investigado pode ser considerado como uma instituição tipicamente disciplinar cujo principal mecanismo e operador microfísico é o relatório (instrumento de exame, vigilância e sanção normalizadora). Sua origem pode ser encontrada no convento católico medieval, matriz de diversas instituições totais. Sua técnica básica é o confinamento e sua lógica é totalitária e "panóptica". O modo de funcionamento desse Seminário Católico se caracteriza pela contradição entre um discurso que privilegia a participação e práticas formativas disciplinares objetivantes e normalizadoras, produzindo uma modalidade de subjetividade de tonalidade perversa. / Abstract: We have done in this research an institutional analyses, which aims is to examine the Catholic ecclesiastical formation practices by means of institutional functioning from a Catholic Seminary - set in São Paulo State - and the register of the ecclesiastical knowledge, producer of a specific subjectivity pattern (future priests). By observing the everyday of that establishment, the semi-structured interviews with institution actors, the analyses of official documents of the Catholic Ministry and relevant literature, we looked for understanding the formation relationship between priests responsible for the formation and seminarians concerning to a privileged and constitutive device of the seminary as an agent producer of subjectivity. Historical process was the mediator and background for our purposes, which built up the nowadays disciplinary society, a State project for social normality, and opened the way to withdrawal institutions which are renewed at establishments such as the Catholic Seminary. Thus we come to the conclusion that the Seminary focused can be considered as a common disciplinary institution, which maintains the report as its main mechanism and microphysics device (exam tool, surveillance and normal process sanction). Its genesis can be found into the Catholic medieval convent, the matrix to the total institutions. It had used the confinement and a totalitarian and "panoptic" logic. That Catholic Seminary functionality is characterized by the contradiction between the speech guided to participation and an objectifying and normalizing disciplinary formation practices, producer of a modality of subjectivity with a perverse tonality. / Mestre

Religiosidade e experiências anômalas no protestantismo brasileiro / Religiosity and Anomalous Experiences in the Brazilian Protestantism

A pesquisa teve por objetivo verificar se e como evangélicos vivenciam experiências anômalas do tipo extra-sensório-motoras, sob a ótica da Psicologia Social. Para tanto, utilizou-se o Questionário de Prevalência e Relevância de Psi (Q-PRP) e entrevista dirigida, de forma a contemplar aspectos quantitativos e qualitativos do estudo. Como aporte teórico para compreensão dos dados, fizemos uso da teoria de atribuição de causalidade, verificando como a percepção social e os eventos se relacionam. Do total de respondentes (N=126); 84,9% relataram ter vivenciado ao menos alguma das experiências abordadas no questionário. Respondentes tradicionais vivenciam menos experiências que respondentes neopentecostais, ou, na linguagem apresentada, neopentecostais são experienciadores de forma estatisticamente significante em relação aos tradicionais para cinco das doze experiências com as quais trabalhamos. A diferença entre as denominações também surgiu nas atribuições de causalidade, quando tradicionais fizeram atribuições a coincidência e ao poder da mente, enquanto neopentecostais (por diferença estatisticamente significante) fizeram atribuições a Deus. Os respondentes pentecostais se comportaram como um grupo impreciso, ora aproximando-se dos tradicionais, ora dos neopentecostais. A pesquisa tem um caráter exploratório e novos estudos se fazem necessários para aprofundamento das tendências aqui apontadas / The aim of this research is to verify if and how evangelical experience anomalous occurrences of extrasensorimotor type, from the perspective of Social Psychology. Therefore we used the Questionário de Prevalência e Relevância de Psi (Q-PRP) and oriented interview in order to contemplate quantitative and qualitative aspects of the study. As a theoretical framework for understanding the data, we used the attribution theory, to determine how the social perception and the events are related. Of the total respondents (N = 126); 84.9% claimed having experienced at least some of the occurrences addressed in the questionnaire. Traditional respondents experience less occurrences then the neopentecostal respondents, or, in the language presented, neopentecostals are experiencers a statistically significant manner compared to traditional to five of the twelve experiments with which we work. The difference between the denominations also appeared in causal attributions when the traditional ascribe the \"coincidence\" and the \"power of the mind\", while neopentecostal (a statistically significant difference) did ascribe to God. Pentecostals respondents behaved like an imprecise group, at times wavering closer to traditional and other times neopentecostals. This research has an exploratory character and further studies are needed to deepen the trends identified here

Religiositet och coping : religionspsykologiska studier av kristna med cancer

This thesis investigates the interdependence of religiosity and a life situation changed by cancer, focusing especially on the coping process. This implies analyses of a number of identified expressions of religiosity regarding prerequisites and functions in the coping process. In order to synthesize the results from the studies, the aim has been operationalized into three comprehensive research questions that were posed to each of the empirical studies of the thesis: 1) What are the functions of the analysed expressions of religiosity during the coping process? 2) What prerequisites for the influence of religiosity on the coping process can be identified?  3) How is religiosity influenced by a life situation changed by cancer? The empirical studies are presented in four separate articles. Each of the studies has its own specific research questions that are related to the comprehensive research questions. The method was qualitative and explorative. The research material was gathered with qualitative interviews of 20 Swedish informants of varying gender, age, congregational affiliation and diagnosis. The informants defined themselves as Christians and practised their Christian faith and had or had had a cancer disease. There is longitudinal data from half of the group. The theoretical framework was based on the coping theories developed by Kenneth Pargament and Ruard Ganzevoort and complemented by, among other things, the object-relations theoretical concept of transitional objects. The results show that most of the analysed expressions of religiosity function as a preserving coping method but some of them also function as a reconstructing coping method. In some cases, the expressions of religiosity also function as methods of attributing control, either to God or to the individual. Two main groups of prerequisites for the expressions of religiosity were identified in conjunction with the coping process: contextual and psychological. The former could in turn be divided into religious and medical contexts; the latter into several different kinds, such as perceptual psychological factors, the need to create and use transitional objects, locus of control, and personality traits. Reconstructing coping methods imply varying degrees of changes in the informants’ religiosity, both regarding the analysed expression of religiosity and other expressions of religiosity. In addition to gaining insights into the interdependence of religion and coping for Christians living with cancer, the study contributes to the development of the psychology of religion coping theory by adding to the theory: 1) suggested specifications to the current concepts of Pargament’s coping theory; 2) the concept coping tool; 3) the distinction between functional and relational regarding the concepts of coping mechanism and coping method; 4) the coping mechanism attributing, and 5) the distinction between unilateral and bilateral deferring coping styles. The results indicate that the coping process can include a creative element in the form of a search for, or creation of, functional coping methods and/or coping tools which enhance the functionality of the coping process.

G. Jung, describing what it is, how it is and what it brings. Written and rewritten between 1913 and 1928, this work was considered by the author to be his most difficult experiment, the self-analysis that allowed him to find his reference point and prepare his psychology, Analytical Psychology. The book was stored away for many decades and was only published recently (2009), which explains the limited bibliography available until now. Our work aims to argue that the central point of these experiments, after the departure from psychoanalysis, consists in comprehending the polarities of the psyche and, simultaneously, in the elaboration of conceptions regarding God. In The Red Book, there appear conceptions of God that are not limited to dogmatic Christian concepts, often of a totally unusual and even blasphemous nature. At its end, it puts forward the idea of God Abraxas, the God above the polarities, and argues that man possesses enough dignity not to have to submit to divine designs. At the same time, over the course of the thesis, we discuss the correlation between The Red Book and the ideas that will be gathered together in the Complete Works, such as the psychological types, the anima, the Self, the difference between western and eastern religions and individuation.

Bibliography: leaves 127-134 / Integrating psychology and spirituality to open up discussion on spiritual identity and its effects on the whole person was birthed in a counselling context, as individuals sought answers for various problems, having an effect on their psychological and spiritual well-being. The body, soul and spirit approach unfolded, as we explored their identity, more specifically, their spiritual identity, thus integrating psychology and spirituality. The aim was to explore how the discovery of their spiritual identity had an effect on them holistically. I chose a qualitative research design because my research questions required the collection and analysis of rich, in-depth data regarding participants’ psychological and spiritual journeys (Phipps, & Vorster, 2011; Ryan, 2006). My data collection method was twofold, using both in-depth interviews (narrative storytelling), as the initial stage for the individual to tell their story and the effects on their psychological and spiritual well-being, as well as semi-structured interviews (brainstorming), as the second stage in the research. The objective was to see what effects the problem had on them as a whole person. I used two stages of data analysis to reach this objective namely a collaborative deconstruction technique, together with the individual as the first stage and secondly a thematic analysis to interpret the main messages, patterns that repeated, as well as the highlights, having an effect on them as a whole. The results confirmed that individuals “discover” their spiritual identity when their self-identity reaches a limit of coping with problems and have more positive effects on them as whole persons. The significance of the research is that it has contributed to a more integrated counselling approach, within psychology, for counsellors and psychologists, to explore spiritual identity with the individual. Through the integration of seeing individuals as whole beings, including a spiritual dimension, awareness was created within the counselling context of the value of seeing individuals in a more integrative and holistic manner. Such a psycho-spiritual integrative approach is more relevant in the field of counselling in journeying with individuals in wholeness and affecting their dimensions of body, soul and spirit positively in the context of identity. / Psychology / M.A. (Psychology)

The similarities between psychosis and different mystical experiences are striking. Professor Jens-Ivar Nergård (1998, 2006) has pointed out similarities between the calling of the Sami shaman/nåjd and the state of psychosis and high-lights the reciprocal meanings andpurposes of these similarities in a Saami context where the calling and the called are regarded as meaningful for the community. By comparing what psychodynamic theorynames psychosis with the calling process of the nåjd the aim of this work is to investigatethe question of how the latter’s discourse finds individual and contextual purpose andmeaning in the psychological functions leading to the former. Since this comparison andinvestigation concerns two different ontologies and discourses, with their own conceptsand views on the psychological functions mentioned, it is done in a qualitative comparativemethod of discourse analysis.The psychodynamic discourse through the books of professor Johan Cullberg classifiespsychosis as a psychological regression to a more primitive psychological state in whichthe individual is caught in primary process thoughts; characterized by dilutions, hallucinations and magical thinking. The psychodynamic discourse sees no contextual, and verylittle individual, meaning or purpose with these functions. This theory is what I will compare to the material given by primarily Jens-Ivar Nergård from a Saami discourse.What I find in the discourse material is an ontology - simultaneously psychological, spiritual, practical and religious (hence the interest from the perspective of psychology of religion) – which differs from the ontology of the psychodynamic discourse in crucial ways.In the Saami discourse the individual experiencing what the theory would name hallucinations, dilutions or psychosis is never disconnected from his or her community and contextbut is instead seen as an important and strong bringer of insights and knowledge. This isconnected to the ontology mentioned above in which relating to - seeing, hearing and interacting with - non-human persons is viewed as a natural experience to understand andrelate to nature, the community, the past and present. The psychological functions in which these interactions take place are regarded as meaningful, significant and sacred.

LET’S TALK ABOUT SEX GUILT: THE IMPACT OF RELIGION ON SEXUAL GUILT, RELATIONSHIP SATISFACTION, SEXUAL SATISFACTION, AND SEXUAL ATTITUDES AND BEHAVIORS IN CHRISTIAN WOMEN

Sexual guilt can occur when one's beliefs or attitudes about sex do not match with their sexual behaviors. Sexual guilt has been studied in the context of religious individuals, but research has produced inconsistent results (Hackathorn et al., 2016; Higgins et al., 2010; Leonhardt et al., 2019; Murray et al., 2007). Through a survey placed on Mturk, this study used 156 participants for data analysis. Data analysis consisted of five regressions. This study found that religiosity and relationship satisfaction are positively associated, sexual guilt and relationship satisfaction are negatively associated, sexual guilt moderated the relationship of religiosity and relationship satisfaction, conflict between sexual attitudes and behaviors was associated with lower relationship satisfaction, religiosity and sexual satisfaction had a positive association, sexual guilt and sexual satisfaction had a negative association, sexual guilt had a moderating effect on religiosity and sexual satisfaction, conflict between attitudes and behaviors was associated with more sexual guilt, and religiosity was found to be positively associated with sexual guilt. This study relates these findings to past research and posits future directions for this field of study.<div><br></div><div><br><br></div>

“Det viktiga går att ha kvar.” Existentiella perspektiv på klimatkrisen : en kvalitativ religionspsykologisk fallstudie på individ-, grupp- och samhällsnivå

Climate change is perceived as one of the most serious threats to humanity. Overthe last decade self-reported anxiety has increased in the Swedish population,especially among children and young adults. In the context of perceived secularity of the Swedish population, the existential questions in the community and inindividuals might be difficult to address. Therefore, the purpose of this qualitative study was to explore existential perspectives within the scope of climate anxiety, and how young adults cope withthe existential concerns. The study also investigated how professionals support young people experiencing existential questions connected to climate change. The design of the study is holistic including micro, meso and macro levels. Empirical data was collected within the framework of the project Terra-Pi/Klimatkraft, developing methods to support young people to better deal with climate-related thoughts and feelings. Phenomenologically inspired interviews were conducted with three young adults and two professionals whose work involves dimensions of young people´s climate worry. An observation was conducted at a Climate Power Group meeting in the project. Further, the study investigated the meaning of existential health, resilience and climate change in the proposal for a new national strategy for mental health, through a content analysis and an interview with anexpert at the Public Health Agency of Sweden. In this study, a deductive thematic analysis was performed to explore the applicability of the “givens of existence” (Yalom 1980), developmental resilience theory (Masten 2021; Ungar 2021) and the connection between meaning making, health and culture according to psychology of religion in Scandinavia. Participants described experiences of existential dimensions adhered to death anxiety, existential quilt, meaninglessness and meaning, existential isolation and future orientation/temporality. Most important coping strategies were climate activism, support from attachment relationships and finding a personal meaning.The project Terra-Pi/Klimatkraft boosts important protective factors for resilience in the participants, and supports the capacity of the professionals to do so. The proposal for a new national strategy for mental health confirms the connection between existential issues and mental health as well as the importance of increased knowledge and interventions within that field. Society would benefit from social actors providing spaces, contexts and competence for addressing existential issues that the climate crisis evokes.

The reason for this study was therefore to investigate the effectiveness of Rational Emotive Therapy as a coping technique for students in order to handle stress. A qualitative analysis was conducted and data was gathered primarily through group therapy and interviewing. The results of the research led to the conclusion that Rational Emotive Therapy could be effectively applied by students as a stresscoping mechanism / Educational Studies / M.Ed.
