[pt] CAMINHOS DE DEMOCRACIA: REPRESENTAÇÃO, OPINIÃO E MUNDOS EM EXPERIÊNCIA / [en] WAYS OF DEMOCRACY: REPRESENTATION, OPINION AND WORLDS IN EXPERIENCERENATA PRATA F DA S RODRIGUES 02 July 2024 (has links)
[en] This thesis sought to investigate the democratic thinking of Nadia Urbinati s
Theory of Opinion within the scope of representative democracy, and the
developments in how an opinion is formed as a result of the debate between ideas.
In this sense, the theorized by Ernst Cassirer about language and its symbols
contributes to the reflection on how we form thoughts and communicate, and the
multiplicity of worlds theorized by Nelson Goodman in how, in a plural society,
worlds are created and coexist with each other with their truths. In the final part,
reflecting on a more democratic way of acting, John Dewey observes democracy as
a way of life and theorized about democracy lived in cooperation in society, with
the focus of the discourse starting from experiences rather than the individual focus,
so that it requires a willingness to live and communicate in a real way with others
in search of possible agreements, in a continuous democratic flow. Reflecting on
Goodman s ideal that the willingness to recognize alternative worlds can be
liberating and can suggest alternative and new paths, but the acceptance of all
worlds does not build any world, the consideration on aspects of construction, or
rather, of maintenance of a truly democratic government and the need for decision-making through legitimate means resulting from democratic representation, within
a structured system for debate and its free plurality. Meditations between thesee
theories as ways to think about a truly democratic experience.

[en] This research aims to analyze the social representation of women in Brazilian advertising between the years of 1950 and 1964. The work begins with a review of the literature on the studies of consumption and advertising as a whole. Then, the work evaluates the importance of collective representations (Durkheim, 1912) for the functioning of social life. For that, we refer to Serge Moscovici (1961), Stuart Hall (2016) and Simone de Beauvoir (1949). The political, economic, socio-cultural and technological transformations that Brazil went through at the time the ads used in this research were conveyed are then contextualized. Finally, an analysis of the advertising discourse on women in O Cruzeiro is undertaken. Similarities and dissimilarities are sought in advertising discourse of the prescribed temporal arc, focusing, mainly, on the construction of the modern woman. Assuming that advertising can be a means of revisiting past perspectives – and also that social representation is an inescapable phenomenon of social life –, on being women in Brazilian society is therefore discussed.

[en] PHOTOGRAPHS IN AN ENGLISH LANGUAGE COURSE BOOK: AN ANALYSIS OF FUNCTIONS AND MEANINGS / [pt] FOTOGRAFIAS EM LIVRO DIDÁTICO DE INGLÊS COMO LÍNGUA ESTRANGEIRA: ANÁLISE DE SUAS FUNÇÕES E SIGNIFICADOSMARCIA OLIVE NOVELLINO 18 September 2007 (has links)
imagens. Considerando
que as práticas sociais, profissionais e acadêmicas
As
ocorrem as relações sociais
entre o produtor da imagem e observador. Utilizando
análise mostra que
as fotografias ilustram, dão apoio visual às atividades,
aproximam alunos e
dentro do livro didático.
no desenvolvimento
de novas metodologias de análise visual. / [en] EFL course books reflect a characteristic of contemporary
Western society:
the strong presence of images. Considering that social,
professional and academic
practices demand knowledge of images and ability to
produce them, it is
important to understand how the study of images can become
an integral part of
language study. Authors such as Kress and van Leeuwen
(2000) and Unsworth
(2004) argue for the need for visual literacy as visual
communication has become
more prominent in EFL course books. One of the most
evident visual elements is
the photograph. Photographs are versatile images that can
be used in legal data, in
historic, medical and scientific documentation, as well as
in EFL course books.
This dissertation investigates the functions of
photographs in the activities
suggested in an EFL course book, the negotiation of
meanings in photographs,
and the social relations between the producer of the image
and the observer. This
research uses a qualitative analysis of images following
Kress and van Leeuwen`s
(2000) The Grammar of Visual Design, which is based on the
theory of Systemic
Functional Grammar by Halliday (1994, 2000). The analysis
of the course book
shows that photographs illustrate arguments, bridge the
students` and the teacher`s
world with the real world outside the classroom, and bring
meanings into the
course book. It also points out the importance of
conducting more research on
multimodality in EFL course books and developing new
methodologies for visual
analysis.

[en] KUABA: AN APPROACH FOR REPRESENTATION OF DESIGN RATIONALE FOR THE REUSE OF MODEL BASED DESIGNS / [pt] KUABA: UMA ABORDAGEM PARA REPRESENTAÇÃO DE DESIGN RATIONALE PARA O REUSO DE DESIGNS BASEADOS EM MODELOADRIANA PEREIRA DE MEDEIROS 29 August 2006 (has links)
conhecimento e a
novo artefato. / [en] This work presents a knowledge representation model and
the conceptual
architecture of an integrated design environment to
support recording design
rationale, as well as use of design rationale, during
design of software artifacts. In
our representation approach, we propose the use of the
formal semantics of
artifacts provided by design methods to represent design
rationale using the
vocabulary defined in the Kuaba ontology. This vocabulary
described in a formal
ontologies specification language allows defining a set of
rules and computable
operations that support the reuse of designs in the
production of new software
artifacts. This representation approach enables a type of
software design reuse at
the highest abstraction level, where rationales can be
integrated and re-employed
in designing a new artifact.

Previous issue date: 2001-12-13 / This work fits in the field of investigations on teaching and learning Analytic Geometry. It focuses on the notion of vector. The theoretical basis relied on R. Duval (1995) representation registers and mathematics learning theory. To him, it is essential for the learning process to distinguish representatives and represented, and, thus, for teaching, to take on account the different semiotical representation ways of a same mathematics object. The research comprised the conception, accomplishment, observation and analysis of a didactical sequence, aiming the articulation of vector concept registrations. The application was carried througjh students who had attended or were attending Analytical Geometry and Vectors disciplines. For the sequence elaboration the three registers categories have been considered: the symbolical, the figural and the natural language ones. On the symbolical, n-uplas and linear combinations , on the figural the arrow and on the natural language vector . The preliminary analysis for the sequence elaboration have been produced by a diagnosis test applied to seventy students of three engineering schools. The subjects taking part in the sequence have been defined considering these students characteristics. The results achieved by this research indicate that the students had great difficulties in activities envolving the conversion of vector registrations and that they could improve their knowledge through the application of the sequence, confirming the validity of the theoretical view that has set it up / Este trabalho enquadra-se no âmbito das investigações sobre o ensino e aprendizagem da Geometria Analítica, tendo por foco a noção de vetor.

Previous issue date: 2007-10-23 / Coordenação de Aperfeiçoamento de Pessoal de Nível Superior / This thesis addresses the issue of representation as a performative language agent in the media
communication genres. The main objective is to understand the semiosis of representation, not
limited to the artistic context, as well to propose an extension and expansion of the communicative
context. This study focuses on productions that configure performers, news casters, commercial and
advertising actors, and well-known media characters as media agents, in contemporary Brazilian
culture between 1999 and 2007, among the entertainment, news, and advertising genres. This work
distinguishes between media agents produced for the media market and those processed by cultural
relations. One of the primary assumptions of this work is that television is the privileged paradigm
that defines other media, such as printed news media and non-mainstream media in that these media
reflect the tele-visual paradigm. This work discusses the actor, fiction, parody and performance as
modelling languages of the culture that configures the media agents. The issue is discussed under
the approach of culture semiotics, according to studies from Tartu-Moscow School. The
methodological procedure of this investigation focuses on the process of recodification based on
the work Roman Jakobson and the modelling and cultural texts of Yuri Lotman and Boris
Uspenskii. In regards to the theoretical foundation, the perception of the media as ambience is
informed by Edgar Morin s theory of mass culture as well as the culture of media described by
Lucia Santaella. Patrice Pavis, Marvin Carlson, Algirdas J. Greimas and Paul Zumthor are
referenced to understand the actor and performer as language. The concept of the media agent as a
hybrid of actor, performer and character, which can be positicioned in one or all three roles is
essential for perceiving that in the media universe, we can find a product-agent or a process-agent.
The first can degenerate the concept of actor, detrimental to the market demands. The second can be
capable of promoting the cultural semiosis as well as valorizing the actor as language, emphasizing
Discute o ator, a ficção, a paródia e

This work use some ideas of Jean Piaget, mainly the Operating Logic, for an analysis of inheritance relationships used in knowledge representation systems. The notion of "scientific" knowledge classifications as defined by Piaget is shown. These structures were used by Piaget as a starting point to find the cognitive structures of scientific knowledge. It is also defined a relation CS. This relation tells whether an inheritance relationship follows from a scientific knowledge taxonomy or not. The notion of scientific knowledge classification is compared with that of "commonsense classification". The differences between these concepts are shown. The semantics of common sense classifications is determined in terms of Piaget's "groupments", through an epistemic extension of the logic of classes. The common sense inheritance relationship with exceptions is studied. The usual formulation of inheritance in propositional logic is presented, and a formulation in the extended logic of classes is proposed. The conclusion is that the intuitive definition of inheritance relationship in one formulation may be different of that in the other. It is observed in the formulation in logic of classes that non-strict inheritance relationships don't adapt to the structure of an acyclic directed graph. In fact, the non-strict inheritance relation doesn't stablish an ordering between classes (in the sense of a partially ordered set, or POSET), but it stablishes a possible simmetry between these classes. This is not so clear in the propositional formulation, because the inheritance relation is masked by using logic implication (->), what gives an appearance of partial ordering. It is verified what occurs when inheritance relations with or without exceptions are mixed in one single theory. It is made some sistematization of the Piaget's intrapropositional operating logic. This sistematization doesn't try to be rigorous, but gives some basic understanding on this theme. The work involves the sistematization of the four groupmonts of classes of the intrapropositional logic, and leaves the study of the four groupments of relations for a future work.
