Capital controls and external debt term structure

Al Zein, Eza Ghassan 01 November 2005 (has links)
In my dissertation, I explore the relationship between capital controls and the choice of the maturity structure of external debt in a general equilibrium setup, incorporating explicitly the role of international lenders. I look at specific types of capital controls which take the form of date-specific and maturity-specific reserve requirements on external borrowing. I consider two questions: How is the maturity structure of external debt determined in a world general equilibrium? What are the effects of date- and maturity-specific reserve requirements on the maturity structure of external debt? Can they prevent a bank run? I develop a simple Diamond-Dybvig-type model with three dates. In the low income countries, banks arise endogenously. There are two short-term bonds and one long-term bond offered by the domestic banks to international lenders. First I look at a simple model were international lending is modeled exogenously. I consider explicitly the maturity composition of capital inflows to a domestic economy. I show that the holdings of both short-term bonds are not differentiated according to date. Second, I consider international lending behavior explicitly. The world consists of two large open economies: one with high income and one with low income. The high income countries lend to low income countries. There exist multiple equilibria and some are characterized by relative price indeterminacy. Third, I discuss date-specific and maturity- specific reserve requirements. In my setup reserve requirements play the role of a tax and the role of providing liquidity for each bond at different dates. I show that they reduce the scope of indeterminacy. In some equilibria, I identify a case in which the reserve requirement rate on the long-term debt must be higher than that on the short-term debt for a tilt towards a longer maturity structure. Fourth, I introduce the possibility of an unexpected bank run. I show that some specific combination of date-and maturity-specific reserve requirements reduce the vulnerability to bank runs. With regard to the post-bank-run role of international lenders, I show that international lenders may still want to provide new short-term lending to the bank after the occurrence of a bank run.

Selenium nutrition of Morone hybrids including dietary requirements, bioavailability, toxicity and effects on immune responses and disease resistance

Jaramillo, Francisco , Jr 16 August 2006 (has links)
Aquacultural production of hybrid striped bass (HSB) Morone chrysops × M. saxatilis is highly vulnerable to losses from bacterial pathogens such as Streptococcus iniae. Therefore, research was conducted to evaluate various dietary factors that may enhance immunocompetence and disease resistance of HSB. In the first experiment, purified and practical diets were supplemented with β-glucan and selenium in a factorial arrangement and fed to juvenile HSB for 6 wk followed by a S. iniae challenge. Weight gain (WG) and feed efficiency (FE) were higher for fish fed either practical diets or purified diets supplemented with selenium, but not those supplemented with β-glucan. Survival after disease challenge for fish fed the selenium-supplemented practical and purified diets was 75% and 35%, respectively. Because selenium supplementation also improved WG and FE, and because selenium and vitamin E have complementary biochemical functions, a second experiment evaluated potential interactions by feeding purified diets with or without vitamin E or sodium selenite (Na2SeO3), singularly or in combination, for 12 wk. Dietary selenium significantly affected whole-body selenium concentration but there was no effect of dietary selenium, vitamin E or their interaction on WG, FE, survival or blood neutrophil oxidative radical production. Three additional 12-wk experiments were conducted to establish selenium essentiality, toxicity, tissue deposition, dietary requirements, bioavailability and nonspecific immune responses using purified diets with a basal selenium level of 0.11 mg/kg. In one experiment, diets had selenium concentrations of 1.19, 2.00, 5.17 and 21.23 mg/kg from Na2SeO3. Another experiment had selenium concentrations of 0.90, 1.26 and 2.55 mg/kg from seleno-DL-methionine. The third trial utilized selenium from Na2SeO3, seleno-DL-methionine and selenium yeast at approximately 0.15, 0.30 and 0.60 mg/kg diet. No overt selenium deficiency signs were observed in any of the three latter experiments, but based on selenium retention values, a minimum dietary requirement of approximately 0.1 mg/kg was estimated. Selenium toxicity was observed in fish fed the diet containing more than 20 mg/kg. Bioavailability of selenium sources was ranked as seleno-DL-methionine > selenium yeast > Na2SeO3.

Kumža, Egidijus 04 March 2009 (has links)
There are many Information System requirement specification methods, but not much of them are related with goals. This work presents analysis of methods related with goal modelling and requirement specification. The field of this work is specification methods of goals and requirements. The object of this work is goal driven requirement specification process. The problem of the work is alignment of requirements to business goals and tracing the compliance of goals, requirements and design artefacts during development process. The main result of analysis is revealing of perspectives for extending requirement specification method with goal modelling and analysis, relating and tracing goals to requirements and software artefacts, and integration of these steps into standard unified development process. For this purpose, a UML profile was created and implemented in CASE tool “Magic Draw”. Experimental investigation of created means by applying them to IS development demonstrated the suitability of the approach.

Šiaulių universiteto gimnazijos moksleivių turistinių kelionių poreikiai / Touristic journey needs of Siauliai University Gymnasium pupils

Šukytė-Jurginauskienė, Raimonda 27 August 2009 (has links)
Magistro darbo pagrindinis tikslas ištirti Šiaulių universiteto gimnazijos moksleivių turistinių kelionių poreikius. Nepatenkinti šio segmento poreikiai – tai nauji turizmo produktai, kuriuos gali pasiūlyti besiplečianti turizmo rinka. Pirmojoje magistro darbo dalyje teoriniu aspektu išanalizuota paslaugos, vartotojo sampratos bei poreikių atsiradimo priežastys. Analizė paremta gimnazistų turistinių kelionių, kuriose jie dalyvavo su tėvais ar mokykla vertinimais bei pageidavimais, į kuriuos reikėtų atsižvelgti organizuojant gimnazistams skirtas keliones. Gauti tyrimo rezultatai parodė, jog gimnazijos moksleivių pagrindinis poreikis – savarankiškumas, kuris pasireikštų renkantis bendrakeleivius, formuojant kelionės maršrutą, kelionės trukmę. Kita vertus Šiaulių universiteto gimnazijos moksleiviai prisitaikė prie esamos situacijos, nes didžioji dalis respondentų patenkinti įvykusiomis turistinėmis kelionėmis. Jose sužinojo daug naujo bei pritarė mokyklinių turistinių kelionių skaičiui per metus. / The main aim of Master Thesis is to research touristic journey needs of Siauliai University Gymnasium pupils. Unsatisfied needs of this segment are the new tourism products, which can be offered by developing tourism market. In the first part of Master Thesis the services, consumer’s conceptions and the reasons of arising needs are analyzed in theoretical aspect. The analysis is based on evaluations of touristic journeys of gymnasium pupils, where they participated together with parents or school, and requests which should be taken into account while organizing journeys, intended for pupils of gymnasium. Received research results revealed that the main need of Gymnasium pupils is independence, which can be revealed by choosing fellow passengers, planning route and time for travelling. On the other hand the pupils of Siauliai University Gymnasium adjusted to the current situation, as the bigger part of respondents are satisfied with touristic journeys. They found out much during them and approved the number of school touristic journeys during the year.
